Elle laisse dans le deuil une fille, Jeannine Léger de Moncton; un fils, Gérald Léger (Carmen) de Longueuil, QC; quatre soeurs: Marie-Thérèse Thériault et Sara Michalick (Ed) de Moncton, Évangeline Léger (Adrice) de Grand-Barachois et Louise Gaudet (Louis-Arthur) de Memramcook; trois frères: Camille et Aurèle (Alice) Thériault d’Oakville, Ont. et Ulysse Thériault (Lucille) de Grand-Barachois: six petits-enfants, deux arrière-petits-enfants, ainsi que plusieurs nièces et neveux. HAYES, Danuta Maria (nee Murphy) Peacefully in her sleep, Danuta Hayes passed away February 8th, 2008 at the age of 59. Beloved wife of the late John Hayes, loving mother to daughter Lianna, son Stephen (Lisa), step-daughter Ondine and life long friend to Audrey. Daughter of the late Dr. Brian Murphy. She is survived by her mother Constance, and a large and loving family including brothers Ian, Derek (Helene), Lorenzo (Francine) and sister Fiona (Greg). Danuta touched many people through her work at Andrew Fleck Child Care Services, which she dedicated more than 20 years of her life helping communities, families and most importantly the children. Danuta held a special place in her heart for her coworkers, caregivers and all the children. She had a love of gardening, art and music and looked forward to long walks with her dog Keba. Danuta was the heart of our family, and we thank her for her amazing courage and unconditional love. We extend gratitude to the staff at Ottawa Hospitals with a special mention to Dr. J. Bormanis and Gail Macartney, RN. A celebration of Danuta's life will be held at Pinecrest Visitation Centre located at 2500 Baseline Road on Thursday February 14, 2008 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. and Friday February 15th from 11 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. followed by a private ceremony. LISTON, Joseph M., Major (Retd) On Saturday, February 9th, 2008, Major Joseph Michael Liston, C.D. RCA, at Parkwood Veterans Hospital, in his 88th year. Survived by Ielene, his loving wife of 64 years, his sons Terry (Linda) of Calgary, Tim (Anna) of London, and predeceased by his daughter Jane Higgin (David) of London. He leaves his grandchildren Julien (Bryan), Erin, Jamie, Danny, Craig, and Simon (Rachel) and great grandchildren Hailey and Josie. Loving brother of Marion, Carmel (David), Larry (Carmel), Sheila, Shirley, and Bill (Judy). Predeceased by his siblings Mary, Rita, John and Ruth. Joe was a career officer in the Royal Canadian Artillery from 1941 until 1969. During WW II he served in NW Europe as a pilot in Air Observation Post Squadron 665. He also served in Korea where he was shot down over enemy lines, and was a prisoner of war for thirteen months. Then Capt. Liston was the highest ranking Canadian officer captured during the Korean conflict. He continued his service in the Canadian Army and did a tour of duty with UN Forces in India and Pakistan in 1962/63 as a truce observer. He returned to regular duty and later commanded the Air O.P. flight in Shilo, Manitoba. He retired from the Canadian Army in 1969. Joe worked in civilian industry until the mid 1980's when he decided golfing was much more important. Joe was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Vimy Branch #145. The funeral service will be conducted at Westview Funeral Chapel, 709 Wonderland Road North, on Thursday February 14, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. with visitation one hour prior to the service. Jane lived her life to the fullest and always amazed everyone with her "Joie de Vivre." She was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Alistair Campbell. She is survived by her children, Heather, Alec, both of Elora, Ont., and John and his wife Kim of Hackett's Cove. GRAY, Harry Austin GRAY, Harry Austin - 78, Eastern Passage, formerly of Fairview, passed away February 10, 2008, in Ocean View Manor, Eastern Passage. Born in Halifax, he was the son of the late William and Beatrice (Isnor) Gray. Harry joined the Canadian Armed Forces in 1949 where he was a paratrooper and served in the Korean Conflict. He was discharged in 1952 and worked with Argyle Cleaners at the Halifax Herald up until his retirement. Among his many hobbies, he enjoyed remote controlled aircraft, astronomy, photography and model trains, as well as being a member of the Halifax Radio Controlled Flying Club and The Royal Nova Scotia Astronomical Society. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Sylvia (Greek); daughters, Heather (Frank) Trimboli, Alberta; Melodie (Darrell) Davis, Lower Sackville; son, Timothey (Rhonda) Gray, Scarborough, Ont.; brother, John and sister, Paulette Martin, Lower Sackville; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by daughters, Linda in infancy and Ivy Rose (2002); sister, Mary Brenton. As per his request there will be no visitation. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday in Atlantic Funeral Home, 125 Sackville Dr., Lower Sackville where a reception will follow. Burial will take place in Oakridge Memory Gardens. He is survived by his wife of 51 years Elizabeth, RN (Gillis); his son, Douglas Jr. (Anne), Brookside; his daughters, Elizabeth, at home, and Suzanne (Greg), Calgary, Alta., as well as his grandsons, Douglas "D.J." and Robert, Brookside. He is also survived by his brothers, Bill (Ena), Toronto; Reginald (Joyce, deceased), Halifax; and his sisters, Lillian (Al) Shaw, Halifax, as well as sister-in-law, Helen Gillis, Halifax, and brother-in-law, Allan Crook, Kingston; several nieces and nephews. Doug attended St. Thomas Aquinas School, St. Mary's High School, St. Mary's College and Nova Scotia Technical College. He retired from the Department of Public Works, Province of Nova Scotia, and was employed by Foundation Maritime, provincially and in New Brunswick, and was an engineer on such projects as the CBC Building, Halifax, Shearwater Gym and Swimming Pool, and the Sir James Dunn Building in Nova Scotia, and the athletic centre at Mount Allison University in Sackville, N.B. He was an avid fly fisherman and curler. He was an usher at St. Theresa Church, Halifax. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be today from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. in J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor St., Halifax. Born in St. Martha's Hospital, Antigonish, he was a son of the late James and Hilda (Buckley) Forrestall. He grew up in Mulgrave, then moved to Yarmouth and attended the Monestary for his high school education. He joined the Canadian Armed Forces and served 34 proud years as a firefighter and retired in Halifax as Sergeant in 1997. He served in CFB Greenwood, Portage La Prairie Man., Summerside, P.E.I. and Comox, B.C., before retiring in Halifax. Upon retirement he served as a Commissioner at the Halifax Infirmary, QEII. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Comox and a member of The Royal Canadian Legion. WENTZELL, Barbara Elizabeth WENTZELL, Barbara Elizabeth - Bridgewater, passed away on February 6, 2008, in South Shore Regional Hospital. Born in Worcester, Mass. on February 22, 1915, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Reva Wentzell. In 1918, Barbara returned with her family to Bridgewater where she attended school and was a member of the first Grade 12 graduating class at Bridgewater High School. After graduation, she moved to Halifax and held several positions with the provincial government culminating with her appointment as Deputy Registrar of Joint Stock Companies, the first female in Canada to hold this position. She then made a transition to the private sector retiring in 1983 as president of Atlantic Chemical and Supply Ltd. and Scotia Instrument Co. Ltd. After a successful business career, Barbara returned to Bridgewater where she pursued many personal interests. She was a founding member of "Friends of the Desbrisay Museum", B.H.S. Education Foundation, and The Wentzel(l) Genealogy Society. She was also an active member of the Woodland Gardens Society and Foreign Protestant Memorial Committee. She is survived by sister-in-law, Marie Wentzell, Bridgewater; nephews, Brian Wentzell (Sharon), Bridgewater, and Evan Wentzell (Deborah), Halifax; nieces, Joanne Lowe (Daryl), Ottawa and Nancy LaLeune (Frank), Prospect. Also surviving are nine grandnieces and nephews and three great-grandnieces and nephews. She was predeceased by brothers, Charles and Keith, and sister-in-law, Harriett. Memorial service will be held on Thursday, February 14, at 11 a.m., in Sweeny's Chapel, Bridgewater, Rev. Eric Campbell officiating, with a reception to follow in Bridgewater Baptist Church. LAIRD, John Clydesdale LAIRD, John Clydesdale - 83, Bridgewater, passed away peacefully February 8, 2008, surrounded by family in South Shore Regional Hospital. Born in Liverpool, England, he was a son of the late David and Christina Violet (Tucker) Laird. John worked for many years as an engineer, starting with Rolls Royce during wartime and eventually immigrating to Canada in 1967 to work for the Nova Scotia Power Commission. He attended Saint Mary's University in the early 70s, becoming a member of the Appraisal Institute of Canada and running his own real estate appraisal business for many years in Bridgewater. Well-known and respected in the community, he loved, and was loved by, his family and will be greatly missed. He was predeceased by his first wife, Verna Noreen (Bowden), and is survived by his second wife, Alma (Freeman Skinner); brother, David (Molly), Southampton, England; daughters, Gillian Flood (Terry), Kingston, Ont.; Mary Lou Whitehorne (Lloyd), Lower Sackville; sons, Duncan (Brenda), Grande Prairie, Alta.; Bruce Skinner (Carole), Waterville; grandchildren, Crystal, Robyn, Chad, Deanna, Louise, Ivy, Mark, Nicholas, Nathaniel, Joshua, Sarah Cloud; great-grandchildren, Saleena, Chevy, and Angus. The family would like to thank staff of the Intensive Care Unit, SSRH, for their care and kindness. MACK, Kathleen Martin Finley MACK, Kathleen Martin Finley - 84, Halifax, died Saturday, February 9, 2008, at home. She was born in Halifax in 1923. She was a daughter of Gerald Edward and Dorothy (Townsend) Martin. For her earliest days she lived in the West Indies, returning to Halifax at age three for the remainder of her long and exceptionally fruitful life. Educated at the Halifax Ladies College and then at Dalhousie University, she graduated with a B.A., First Class Honours in English, in 1943, and she was awarded the Governor General's Medal for academic excellence for that year. In that year also, she married her first husband, Russell Allen Finley, and moved with him to a small cabin near Fort Nelson, B.C., where he was serving with the Canadian Meteorological Service during the war. These were watershed years for them throughout their many years together, and set the tone of independence and adventurousness which informed her life. Returning to Halifax after the war, she lived first in Waverley, and then at Kirk Road in Halifax, both houses rich in friends, in family, and in hospitality - three things she believed in passionately. After the death of her first husband, she remarried, to Dr. Gordon Mack, her best and constant friend through her entire life, and with whom she shared a lifelong love of sailing and of the sea. They made many joyous voyages together along the coasts of Nova Scotia and Newfoundland, and south to the Bahamas, where they were married in 1996. Kay was a past president of the Halifax Ladies College Alumnae and a member of its Board of Governors. She held every position in the Canadian Girl Guides from a Brownie to a District Commissioner. During the Second World War, she was a Sergeant and Nurse's Aid in the Red Cross. She was a member of Alpha Gamma Delta fraternity, and was at one time an active and successful debater. She was a member of St. John's Anglican Church, Waverley, an active member of the guild there, and a lifetime parishioner of St. Paul's Anglican Church, Halifax, where she was involved in many church activities. With her first husband, she was a founder of the Halifax Grammar School, and retained an active interest in that school and in Armbrae Academy until her death. An enthusiastic sailor, and one of the first women to sail in the Marblehead-Halifax race, she was a long-time member of the Royal Nova Scotia Yacht Squadron. She was predeceased by her first husband, R. Allen Finley, and survived by her husband, Dr. Gordon Mack; sons, Dr. G. Allen Finley (Dr. Linda (Mackie) and Dr. Robert Finley (Dr. Fiona Polack); sister, Heather Inglis; grandchildren, Linnet, Nigel, Meghan, and Susannah; niece and nephews, Stephanie, Brian, and Robert. Kay touched countless lives with her generous and loving spirit, and especially the lives of children, whom she loved without question. She was a passionate force in people's lives and in the life of her city, and will be sorely missed by her family and her many many friends. MARTIN, Gary Vincent MARTIN, Gary Vincent - Halifax Regional Police, Retired. 54, Bedord, passed away February 10, 2008, in the Palliative Care Unit, VG Site, QEII. He was the son of the late Albert and Marjorie Martin. Gary served with the HRP for 26 years before moving on as manager of the Community Response Team, and later became the City Councillor for District 21, Bedford. He was an active member of his community. Gary served on numerous committees, sports teams and volunteer initiatives. Gary enjoyed life to the fullest and touched the hearts of everyone he met. He enjoyed motorcycling, hockey, ball, and his Toronto Maple Leafs, but most of all, he loved his family. He is survived by his wife, Darlene (Conrad); daughters, Cynthia Bernasky (John), Dartmouth; Christa Martin (Aubrie), Ottawa; Candace Martin, Bedford; sister, Annamarie Hatcher (Bruce), Sydney; grandson, Ryan Bernasky. He was predeceased by granddaughter, Bailey Foulkes. Beloved wife of the late Damien MacGuigan. Beloved sister of Edna Gallant, Rita McInnis, Louis (Mary) Trainor, Aeneas Trainor and Austin, (Eileen) Trainor. Ada is also fondly remembered by numerous niece and nephews. YANKE,James 2008-02-12 It is with painful sadness that the family of James "Jamie" Yanke, age 33 years, announce his sudden, peaceful passing at home on Sunday, February 10, 2008. Jamie was born in Thunder Bay, on December 18, 1974. He attended St. Martin‘s School and Northwood High School. He was a proud father to his daughter Brandi whom he loved full heartedly, and she was truly the love of his life. He cared deeply for his family, and spending time with them was important to him, especially his auntie Brenda (Shedden). Jamie was a member of Harbour Youth Services. His friends always meant a lot to him. He had a great sense of humour, and always enjoyed getting a rise out of people by teasing them just a little. Jamie is survived by his beautiful daughter Brandi; parents Diana and Terry Aho and Jim Yanke; siblings Dean Monteith (Krissy), Lawrence Aho (Michelle), James Aho (Dawn), Laila Aho (Dwayne Brown), Tonia Yanke, Stacey Yanke and Tara-Lyn Aho (Ryan Kirchen); nieces and nephews Amanda, Nicole, Krystin, Morgan, Sarah, Lara, Makayla, Shayne, Cassandra and Camron. Many aunts, uncles and cousins also survive. He is predeceased by his grandparents Joyce and Worrell Elms; beloved aunt Karen Luby, aunt Janet (Ken) Valimaa and cousin Christoper Shedden. SCHOFIELD, Eric Allison SCHOFIELD, Eric Allison - 81, Cambridge Station, Kings Co., passed away Tuesday, February 12, 2008, in Blandford, Lunenburg Co., in the company of friends. Born June 1, 1926, on Brooklyn Street, Kings County, he was predeceased by his parents, Gilbert and May (Borden) Schofield, and his brother, Donald Schofield (killed in the Second World War). Eric served in the Canadian Army during the Second World War, particularly in the areas of cryptography and codebreaking. He received his B.A. and M.A. (Economics) from Acadia University, and his M.P.A. (Public Administration) from Syracuse University. Eric went on to a long career with the Government of Canada, which included co-ordinating the visits of foreign dignitaries and heads of state for the Prime Minister's Office during Expo 67. He was awarded Canada's Centennial Medal for his years of distinguished public service. In his "first retirement," Eric was a tour manager for nearly 20 years, and traveled the globe with various bands of adventurers. In his later retirement, he deeply enjoyed the company of family and friends, and traveled often to spend time with them. Surviving are sister, Vera Schofield, St. John's, N.L.; brother, Dr. Wilfred Schofield, Vancouver, B.C.; nieces and nephews, Katherine Young (Rob Neilson), Janet Young Guerra (Walter Guerra), Stephen Young (Kim Pottle), Craig Young (Christine Healy), Linda Schofield (Alp Debreli), Muriel Schofield (Andy), Pamela Schofield (Kent Lewis); several grandnieces and grandnephews; good friend, June Herbert; "adopted sister", May Fry; a generous and wide spectrum of extended family and friends. Born in East Gore, he was a son of the late Aubrey and Olla (MacAskill) Dalrymple. Blair worked as a construction superintendent in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. He worked for W.N. White Co. Ltd., J.W. Lindsay Enterprises and Gem Construction. He was a very intelligent man and was well-respected in the construction industry. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and horse racing. It is with heartfelt sadness the family announce the passing of their beloved wife, mother, grandmother and sister, Theresa Caroline Dolimont, age 82, on Tuesday, February 12, 2008, in Northside General Hospital, North Sydney. Born in North Sydney, August 1, 1925, Theresa was a daughter of the late Samuel Stephen and Charlotte (LeFrense) Robinson. She was employed with the Cape Breton Victoria School Board, retiring in 1991, and also did volunteer work at both the Miners Memorial Manor and with the breakfast program at Thompson Junior High School. She was a member of St. Joseph Church, North Sydney. She is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Leonard Dolimont; and her children, son, Gordon (Claire), Windsor; daughters, Linda (Jim) Hull, Long Island; Helen (Grant) King, Bedford; Brenda Dolimont, Greenwood; Patricia Dolimont (Charlie), Port Hastings; grandchildren, Michelle and Stephen Dolimont, Andrew Hull, Erin and Brett King, Kathleen Lutz, Daniel Skinner; her sisters, Jean Moore, Sarnia, Ont.; and Frances Devoe, Toronto; nieces and nephews. HYNES, W. Harry HYNES, W. Harry - 1909-2008, Glace Bay. W. Harry "William Henry" Hynes, 98, died peacefully February 12, 2008, in Glace Bay General Hospital. Born in Port au Port, N.L., he was the eldest son of Keziah Jane (DeLeuche) and Charles Henry Hynes. He was predeceased by his wife, Helen. He is survived by daughters, Linda (Herb) MacDonald, Dartmouth; Judi (John) Neary, Amherst; and Norma (Tom) Cochrane, Glace Bay. He is also survived by grandchildren, Sean MacDonald, Edmonton; Andrew MacDonald, Stratford; Kirk MacDonald, Halifax; Michael (Amber) Cochrane, Glace Bay; Erin Cochrane, Dartmouth; great-grandchildren, Julianna, Kate, Leslie, Meara, Macaulay, Makale and Maxime MacDonald, Samantha and Melanie Cochrane; half-brother, Melvin Sherwood, St. Margaret's Bay. He was predeceased by three brothers, one sister; four half-brothers and one half-sister. He completed a Diploma in Electrical Engineering from Chicago Engineering Works. Following his first job as a pressman at J.B. Morrison and Son, Sydney, he worked in the electrical department of the steel plant and then moved to Glace Bay in 1940 in the electrical department at Seaboard Power Plant. In 1944, he suffered a severe electrical accident resulting in damage to the head, spinal cord and nervous system. He returned to work and continued at Seaboard Power Plant until retirement as Electrical Superintendent in 1974. Visitation will be held Friday, February 15, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in Patten Funeral Home, 71 Union St., Glace Bay. Funeral service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. in Newsom United Church, Dominion Street, Glace Bay, with Rev. Michael Goodfellow officiating. A reception following will be held in the church. LANGILLE, Edna Mildred "Grannie" LANGILLE, Edna Mildred "Grannie" - 94, Willow Lodge, Tatamagouche, formerly of River John, left us peacefully with her family by her side on February 12, 2008. She was a daughter of the late Danford and Lucy Jane (Langille) Patriquin. She was a long-standing member of St. George's Presbyterian Church, member of the Ladies Auxiliary and St. George's AMS. After raising her family, she worked at the River John Co-op until her retirement. She was a loving devoted wife to her husband Chester for 72 years and a loving mother to her children. She was known as "Grannie" to her many grandchildren, great and great great-grandchildren. Her family was very precious to her. She is survived by daughters, Alice (Walter) Langille, Iola (Chester) Swantee; sons, Phillip (Millie), Willis (Jeannie); special daughter, Bessie (Daryl) Fawcett; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Chester; son, Douglas; daughter-in-law, Helen; son-in-law, Walter Jewell, and grandson, Glen Jewell. Visitation will be held today from 7-9 p.m. in St. George's Presbyterian Church, River John. Funeral service will be Friday, February 15, at 3 p.m. in St. George's Presbyterian Church with Rev. Jeanette Fleischer officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in Mountain Road Cemetery. Family flowers only. Donations in Edna's memory may be made to Willow Lodge, Tatamagouche, Mountain Road Cemetery or a charity of choice. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to MacLeod's Funeral Home, River John.

MOIR, David E. MOIR, David E. - 62, Dartmouth, passed away suddenly February 12, 2008, in the Halifax Infirmary, QEII. Born in Dartmouth, he was a son of the late Austin and Pauline (Wentzell) Moir. David retired after 21 years of employment with the Atlantic Lottery Corporation as Regional Manager. He was an avid golfer and loved spending time at his second home in Ranchland, Fla. He adored his grandchildren and spending time with his family and friends. David was a friend to all and was always ready to lend a helping hand. He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Carolyn (Bonin) Moir, Fall River; daughter, June (Eric) Craig, Eastern Passage; son, Thomas (Christeen) Moir, Fall River; grandchildren, Olivia, Rachael, Jacob; sister, Karen (Donald) Bonin, Kathy Lessard, Nancy O'Brien; brother, Paul Moir; many nieces, nephews and close friends. He was predeceased by infant granddaughter, April Moir. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main St., Dartmouth, where visitation will be held 6-8 p.m. Friday. Memorial service 10 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home chapel. Interment in Dartmouth Memorial Gardens. Reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or Canadian Cancer Society. ROBINSON, Russell Joseph ROBINSON, Russell Joseph - 58, Indian Brook, passed away February 12, 2008, in the VG Site, QEII, Halifax. Born in Indian Brook, he was a son of Peter Joseph and Mary Ellen (Lewis) Robinson, Shubenacadie. Russell was a dedicated son, brother, father, uncle, cousin and friend. He was easygoing and always willing to share his knowledge with anyone who needed it or wanted it. He loved hunting, fishing, and blueberry raking. He cherished his relationship with the land and nature. He is survived by his daughters, Charlotte Googoo, Indian Brook; Leah Langille, Shubenacadie; Jade Robinson and Willow Robinson, both of Indian Brook; sons, Russell Bernard, Truro; Jody Robinson, Indian Brook; sisters, Eileen Walsh, Boston, Mass.; Marie Robinson (Gary Maloney), Joanne, both of Shubenacadie; brother, Ross Galloway, Saint John, N.B.; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; best friend, Jeanette Paul, Indian Brook; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brother, Matthew Robinson. Visitation 6-8 p.m. today and 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday in Ettinger Funeral Home, Shubenacadie. A funeral mass will be held 11 am., Saturday in St. Catherine's Roman Catholic Church, Indian Brook, Father Tom Kurudeepan, O.M.I. officiating. Interment to follow in the parish cemetery. MacLEOD, Arthur Robert "Art" MacLEOD, Arthur Robert "Art" - 54, Oshawa, Ont., formerly of Avondale, Pictou Co., passed away peacefully February 12, 2008, after a brief battle with cancer. Born in New Glasgow, he was a son of William and Ruth (Gosbee) MacLeod. Art worked at Michelin in Granton and was a long-time employee of General Motors in Oshawa. He was an avid golfer. Besides his parents, he is survived by his wife, Carol (Melanson), formerly of Pomquet; sons, Daniel and Andrew; brother, Raymond (Irene); sisters, Florence (Donald) Sutherland, Beverly (Marty) Bourgeois, Frances (Jerome) MacDonald, Shirley (Scott) McLeod, Linda (David) MacLeod, Gloria (Ron) Walsh; many nieces and nephews.
