HOAGLAND, Robert Gerald "Jerry" October 7, 1947 - January 7, 2008 Jerry passed away Monday, January 7, 2008 in Calgary, at the age of 60 after a courageous battle with cancer. He leaves behind his wife, Carolyn, who lovingly cared for him at home almost until the end. He is also survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Heather Garness of Calgary, daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer Garness and Darin Holst, grandchildren Jonny and Cassie Holst, all of Oakville, ON, and sister and brother-in-law, Donna and Don Pearse of Okotoks. He was predeceased by his parents Robert and Verna (nee Toombs). Jerry was born in Calgary and lived here most of his life. He graduated from Crescent Heights High School in 1965, and was in the first graduating class of SAIT's Business Administration program in 1968. He worked for IBM for eleven years, six of them in Edmonton, where he did not become an Oilers fan. Jerry was perhaps best known for his contributions to the community as Executive Director at Horizon Housing Society, where he worked for the past twenty-four years. He had life-long friends and made many friends through his work with Horizon, CMHA and many other organizations. He enjoyed spending time on the golf course and going to football games with friends, and watching the game at home. He loved his vacations with Carolyn and friends, going to Mexico, Hawaii or other sunny destinations. KISH, Gloria I. (nee Ursacki) - Passed away at her residence in Buffalo, New York on January 8, 2008, at the age of 62. Born and raised in Port Colborne, Gloria was the beloved wife of Gerald A. KRAFT, Tony January 9, 1932 - January 8, 2008 Anthony George Kraft, beloved husband of Freda and father of Norman George Kraft of Calgary, passed away peacefully at the Southwood Hospice, after losing his battle with cancer on Tuesday, January 8, 2008, at the age of 75 years. Tony was born on January 9, 1932 in Salvador, SK, on the family farm. His deep religious faith and hard-work values were learned from his parents. He left the farm at the age of eighteen for the big city life of Calgary, where he lived with his brother Frank (Anne), who got him a job at Barber Machinery as a Journeyman welder. There Tony met and married his first wife Jean Laura (McLellan) on June 1, 1957, and had one son Norman. After a short time in the welding trade, Tony found his calling in sales and management for Traco Manufacturing Ltd., where he worked for twenty years selling and distributing furnaces and water heaters for recreational vehicles. This job entailed extensive travelling throughout Canada, U.S.A. and Europe, which he truly enjoyed. In 1980, Traco closed in Canada and Tony became the sales representative for Western Canada and started his own company, Torman Enterprises, which he retired from in 1987. For many years he enjoyed golfing at High River, curling, playing cards, casino, fishing and camping. He was an active member of St. Gerard's Parish since it was built, serving as an usher, greeter, on the Parish Council and in the Knights of Columbus. Tony is lovingly remembered by his second wife Freda Bourgeault, of six years (married September 8, 2001); son Norman; stepchildren Kenneth Bourgeault (Jeannette), Richard Bourgeault, Brenda Southgate (Dennis) and step-grandchildren Crystal, Candace, Kendra, Nathan, Jordan, Genny, Cody and Jessica and step-great-grandfather to Kayden. Tony is also survived by his sisters and brothers, Annie Weimer, Peter Kraft, Raymond (Lee) Kraft; sister-in-law Rose Kraft and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Tony was predeceased by his first wife Jean of forty years; parents George and Amelia Kraft; sisters Katherine Kraft, Barbara Boser, Eleanor Brosinsky; brothers Paul, John and Frank Kraft; brothers-in-law Ned Weimer, Ray Brosinsky and John Boser and his sisters-in-law Ursula and Anne Kraft. She is survived by her son Donald (Charlene) McClain, her daughters Linda (Richard) Kohlruss, Debra (Dwight) Reath, Wendy (Reed) Jensen; her grandchildren Chris (Julie), Brad (Melody), Kim, Deanne (Aaron), Mark (Karla), Tracey (Stephane), Stacey (Gord), Chelsea, JoAnna, Logan and Joshua along with great-grandchildren Jaimie, Cameron, Sydney, Evan, Kohen, Ethan, Brennan and Jayden. RHINE, Amber Aaron January 8, 1993 - January 9, 2008 Amber Aaron Rhine passed away into the presence of God on Wednesday, January 9, 2008, one day after her fifteenth birthday, at the Alberta Children's Hospital. Amber fought her illness with courage and strength and was an inspiration to all who knew her. She will be remembered for her beautiful smile and gentle spirit. Amber was born January 8, 1993 in Calgary. She was a student at Emily Follensbee School for ten years. She loved music, swimming, movies and recorded stories. Hannah Maria Yuke, born January 7, 1990, passed away suddenly at the Royal University Hospital, Saskatoon on December 31, 2007. Welcomed to God’s Glory by Oma van Beers, Grandpa Yuke, and Cousin Tyler Yuke. From the date of her birth, January 7, 1990 - December 31, 2007, what mattered most of all was the dash between those years. Even though Hannah’s DASH was too short, she lived a full and exciting life. Hannah was an honour student of Riverview Collegiate and will be an honourary graduate with her 2008 class. She leaves a legacy of involvement in many life endeavours: SADD, choir, Army Cadets, honorary CFB Moose Jaw Firefighter, Computer Science for Young Women, Sparks, Brownies, Girl Guides, Providence Place volunteer, Camp Easter Seal, Research Assistant and tour guide for the Western Development Museum, CHAB Radio work experience and Art Club. We would also like to thank all the people, organizations and various others that have helped Hannah live a rich and vibrant life. Hannah was an avid artist in several mediums, winning numerous awards for her creativity. To carry on Hannah’s memory are her parents Rick and Joanne; sister Dayla; nephew and Godson Elias; Grandma Rose Yuke; Opa Gerry and Oma Etta van Beers; plus numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends; as well as special friend Ben. DeMARCO, Mario Earl - Passed away peacefully into the arms of the Lord, after lengthy heart and cancer complications, on Wednesday January 9, 2008 in his 85th year. Predeceased by his former wife Marie Victoria DeMarco. Special father to Murray, Mark and Kandy and grandfather to Troy, Chad, Donovan, Mathew, Lindsay and Danielle. Lovingly remembered by his great- grandchildren. Mario, known as “Super Mario“ to his friends and family was a World War II veteran along with his predeceased brother Wilfred DeMarco, Pilot DFC. He was also predeceased by his sister Lillian. He is survived by his brothers Norval and Mickey. Mario served in France and Germany with his friend and senior officer Conn Smythe and shared special early years in Timmins with his childhood friend Ken Thomson. After the war he moved south to Niagara- on-the-Lake. Mario was a Class A Master mechanic and a technical and design professional. In the early 1950's Mario built Niagara's oldest and current “Jakes“ french fry truck as well as many racecars, motorcycles and farm implements. Mario also built the Evel Knievel Museum in Niagara Falls with apprentices Chad and Ryan and assisted with the “That's Incredible“ Museum. In prior years he also worked on the Hydro project. McCURDY, Lenard Harvey - Passed away at Emmanuel House, Hamilton on January 9, 2008 in his 60th year after a battle with cancer. Eugene Gerard Weaver, formerly of Walkerton, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at his residence at Rockwood Terrace Nursing Home, Durham on December 20, 2007 at the age of 87. Eugene is sorely missed by his best friend and loving wife of 65 years, Venetta Caroline Kueneman, and children Keith (Patricia) of Hanover, Gary (Jan) of Stratford, Judy Zuber of RR 2 Walkerton, Carolyn (Scott) Thibaudeau of Walkerton and Tom (Julie) of Glammis. Papa will be greatly missed by his 13 grandchildren: Corey (Sandra) Weaver of Durham, Steve (Jamie) Zuber of Elmira, Darryl (Carrie) Zuber of Waterloo, Kevin (Terri) Weaver of London, Haley (Mark) Stoll of Goderich, Dwayne (Shannon) of Stratford, Jennifer (Mike) McCallum of Owen Sound, Greg (Bridget) Zuber of Walkerton, Jason (Lindsay) Spitzig of Toronto, Ian Weaver of Niagara Falls, Charity Spitzig of London, Shayne and Devon Spitzig of Walkerton. Also mourning Great Papa’s passing are 15 great-grandchildren, Godson Doug McCory of Hanover, and many nieces and nephews. Eugene was predeceased by son Glenn (1997), brother Cyril, three sisters, Rita Schurter, Irene Wilhelm, and Marcella Fritz, and his parents Bernard and Anna (Fortney) Weaver. At a very young age Eugene worked at the Truax factory in Walkerton where Tim Horton’s is presently located. In the spring of 1942 Eugene met the love of his life, Venetta Caroline Kueneman, from Hanover, and they were married on Sept. 12 the same year. Shortly after they were married, Dad was called to serve in the army but because of his diminished hearing, his role was not to be on the front lines but as an Operating Room Assistant stationed in England and at times in Sussex, New Brunswick. In 1960 Eugene bought Norrish’s Greenhouses and Flower Shop from Jenny Norrish, which was located on Colborne Street where the CMR Insurance Office is presently located. Eugene and Venetta worked side by side in this family business for many years. In 1979 the property on Colborne Street was sold and the greenhouses demolished and Norrish Flower Shop moved to a new location in the Yonge Street plaza where Eugene and Venetta continued their business ventures. In 1987 the business was sold and Eugene and Venetta retired. Eugene was an avid gardener, enjoying both his flowers and vegetable gardening, and he was meticulous in their care. He took great pride in his tomatoes, which he started from seed each year in February, along with other vegetables, and nurtured them in the house until the spring for outdoor planting. Over the years he has given many people suggestions and advice on the “art” of planting and harvesting good tomatoes. Eugene’s climbing roses along the south side of the house were also admired and envied by the neighbours and all who passed by. He truly had a “green” thumb. The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 102 held a memorial service at 2 pm and a parish prayer service conducted by Eugene’s nephew, Father David Wilhelm of Holy Rosary Parish Milton, was held at the Cameron Funeral Home, Walkerton at 3:30 pm on Sunday, Dec. 22, 2007. Mass of the Christian Burial was celebrated by Eugene’s nephew, Father Don Wilhelm of St. Anthony Parish Kincardine, on Monday, Dec. 24, 2007 at 2:00 pm at Sacred Heart Church, Walkerton. A time of fellowship was held at the Walkerton Legion Hall following the mass. Spring Interment in Calvary Cemetery. CREBER, Irene Emily (nee Bulcroft) - Died peacefully in her 93rd year on Thursday, 10 January, 2008 at the Trillium Centre, Kingston, Ontario. Predeased by her husband, Kenneth John Creber, Irene is survived by her children, Diane (Tim DeRose) of Wilton; John (Monica), of Inverary; Dawn (Rick Stewart) of Nanaimo, B.C.; David (Kathy) of Kingston; and Tony (Laurie) of Ottawa; grandchildren and great- grandchildren and many nephews and nieces. Irene was the last surviving sibling of eleven brothers and sisters. She was born in Montreal but also lived in Toronto and New York before retiring with her husband to Kingston in 1980 where Irene enjoyed entertaining family and friends, traveling with her husband and playing bridge, golf and curling. Friends will be received at the ROBERT J. REID & SONS FUNERAL HOME, 309 Johnson Street, (at Barrie Street), Kingston, Ontario on Sunday, 13 January between the hours of 2-5 p.m. Funeral service will be held at The Cathedral Church of St. George, 270 King Street East (at Johnson Street), Kingston, Ontario on Monday, 14 January at 10 a.m. Cremation will follow and interment will be held at a later date at Glenhaven Memorial Gardens. Harold was presently living at Morningside Village, New Hamburg, and was formerly of Kitchener & Corunna. He had co-owned and operated a grocery store in Corunna for many years and was a member of Shakespeare Presbyterian Church. Harold was a vibrant, generous and fun-loving man. Loving husband of Marlene (Taylor) Roth whom he married November 15, 1952. Cherished father of Deb & Marty Steinberg of Kitchener, and Cindy & Roy Juschka of Corunna. Dear grandfather of Tiffany Steinberg & Bob Hammer, Jordan Juschka, and great-grandfather of Jacob & Taylor. Mass of the Christian Burial was celebrated by Father David Wilhelm of Holy Rosary Parish in Milton, and co-celebrated by Father Don Wilhelm, nephews of Venetta, on Friday, Dec. 28, 2007 at 11:00 am at Sacred Heart Church, Walkerton. Luella Patterson (nee Ellis) peacefully entered into eternal rest on January 2, 2008, in her 94th year. Widow of the late Earl R. Patterson, she returned in 1981 to the Hanover-Walkerton area after her husband's passing in 1974. Formerly she lived in Toronto and Brampton, devoting her life to her husband in support of his ideals and goals for the International Woodworkers of America and to her extended family. Great-grandchildren: Erik, Myles and Emily Patterson; Alyssa and Steven Weir; Erica and Kelsey Rochette; Shawna Gailitis; Stephanie and Jessica Faelker; Aaron, Sebastian and Aiyana Hackbusch: and four great-great-grandchildren. Fondly remembered by her nieces and nephews. Predeceased by: her beloved grandson David Patterson, son-in-law Donald Faelker, brothers Clarence, Alvin and Elmer Ellis, sisters Irene Gateman and Mary Ann Vattendahl, niece Doris Wendorf and nephew Gerald Gateman. A Private Funeral Service was held on Friday, January 4, 2008 at 12 noon at Mighton Funeral Home Hanover. The Reverend Gordon Williams of Orangeville officiated. Interment in Hanover Cemetery. Memorial donations to the Scott Mission, Salvation Army or charity of one's choice were appreciated as expressions of sympathy.
