OCCENA, Mary Frances Kathelynn Mary Frances Kathelynn Occena, beloved daughter of Genevieve Occena of Calgary, passed away at the Alberta Children's Hospital on Thursday, October 18, 2007 at the age of 9 years. Besides her loving mother, Kathelynn will be dearly missed by her sister Julia, Mama D, Mama C, Pops and great-grandma Crawford in Winnipeg. Kathelynn will also be lovingly remembered by her Tita Nancy, Papa Laird and Mama Erma in Pine Falls, Amanda Magliocca - Kaka's best friend, the staff and students of Mountain View Academy and Kathelynn's extended family in Philippines and here in Calgary. Kathelynn was born in Calgary on June 3, 1998 and was a promising Grade 4 student at Mountain View Academy. She loved the outdoors, people, animals and was loved by all who knew her sweet smile. The family would like to thank the paramedics and all those whose prayers, thoughts and help have been extended to us in this time of grief. SORENSON, Velma Velma Sorenson of Nanton, Alberta passed away peacefully at Signal Pointe Care Centre on October 19, 2007. Velma was born in Leavitt, Alberta on April 8, 1917 to her parents Charles and Francesca Quinton. She will be lovingly remembered by her two sons, Charlie (Carol) of Calgary and Ken of Nanton; and four grandchildren, Kyle, Troy, Bergen and Dalen. She was predeceased by her husband Soren as well as her sisters Martha, Roma, Venice and Olive and brother Everard. Velma was a kind and generous person who was always ready to set an extra place at the table for anyone who dropped by. Traveling was one of her great joys and she loved to reminisce about her trips to Norway and England and cross country trips that took her from Vancouver Island to the Maritimes and from Alaska to Florida and all stops in between. Velma also enjoyed working in her church callings, especially teaching the children whom she loved. She tried to live by a motto her father had taught her, "Do the Lord's work first and your own will be well done later." The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff at Signal Pointe for providing such compassionate care over the past two and a half years. A Celebration of Velma's life will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in High River on Tuesday, October 23 at 1:00 p.m.. Interment to follow at the Nanton Cemetery. Born in Wiki in 1931, Marie was employed with the Red Cross and Kinark Family Services for close to 10 years. Throughout the years Marie had lived in Elliot Lake, Burwash, Thunder Bay and finally Barrie. Her unyielding spirit for adventure allowed her to travel far and often to visit and spend time with family. One of her greatest accomplishments was gaining her driver's license for the first time at the age of 63. Thanks for sharing with us the re- birth of our mother, Marie “Mary“ Dora Daphne Smykalski, for she is now liberated eternally from the flesh and suffering and born unto the spirit world. QUENNEVILLE, Raymond John (F.C.G.A.) - A resident of Chatham and formerly of Ridgetown and Thamesville, Ray Quenneville passed away suddenly at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance Chatham Campus on Saturday October 20, 2007 at the age of 61 years. Born in Rochester Township, Essex County, son of the late Alexander and Jenny (Sonta) Quenneville. Beloved husband and business partner of Teresa (Firlotte) Quenneville. Dear father of Bill and Denise Quenneville of Belle River and their children Ryan and Ashley, and Bob and Andrea Quenneville of London and their son Max. Brother of Martin and Ruth Quenneville of St. Thomas and their daughters Arianne and Michelle; Jeannette and Don Carpenter of Sarnia and their children Kevin and Keith; Rosemary Quenneville of Sarnia; and Betty Gleeson of North Bay and her sons Eric and Ben. He will also be missed by many cousins and friends. Ray was very active in his profession having served on the Board of Governors of the Certified General Accountant in Ontario for 8 years. In recognition of his dedicated service to his profession, Ray received many recognitions, including Life Memberships, Distinguished Honours and the highest honour, only given to a few accountants in Canada, a Fellow Certified General Accountant (F.C.G.A.). Ray was also very active in his community having served as Chair of the Housing Authority of Chatham-Kent. Ray was a Rotarian, having been a member of both the Thamesville and Ridgetown Clubs. He served as Rotary President on 3 occasions and was made a Paul Harris Fellow. Professionally, Ray owned his own accounting practice for over 40 years and for more than 25 years was president of the Ridgetown Financial Services.
