RICKARD, PATRICIA "PATTY" The death of Patricia "Patty" (O'Leary) Rickard of Fredericton, NB, age 52, occurred on Sunday, October 14th, 2007 at her residence. Born August 10th, 1955 in Fredericton, NB, she was the only child of the late Ivan and Margaretta "Gret" (McLean) O'Leary. Patty was raised in Devon and attended South Devon Elementary, Devon Junior High, and Fredericton High. At an early age she took the initiative and began attending Gibson Memorial United Church, belonging to a number of the youth groups that existed at that time. During those years she was a sought after baby-sitter and conscientiously worked at a number of part time jobs. In 1974 Patty settled into a full time job as a secretary in the building inspection department for the City of Fredericton. In 1977 her first son (Christopher) was born and Patty forsake a career to turn her full attention to raising her family. In 1980 her second son (Drew) was born. Patty was an active member of St. Mary's Anglican Church taking on various roles over the years, including teaching Sunday School, working with the Brownies, a member of the Altar Guild, and a charter member of the Mother's Union in the parish. Raising boys she had become familiar with hockey, baseball, the scouting movement and the school band. Patty took on the challenges and became an avid cheerleader and supporter of her children in each one of these activities. At parties, Patty could always be counted on to entertain with her quick wit and ability to laugh at herself. Patty leaves behind her two sons, Christopher (Melanie) and Drew (Cheri); cousins, Mike Fogarty, David Fogarty, Chip Dickison, and Dale Dickison who were like brothers to her; several other close cousins; and many many great friends. Her father, Ivan O'Leary, predeceased her in 1980 and her mother Margaretta O'Leary (McLean) predeceased her in 2006. The family will receive visitors at McAdam's Select Community Funeral Home, 160 York Street, Fredericton, on Wednesday, October 17th, 2007 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. A Requiem Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary's Anglican Church on Thursday, October 18th, 2007 at 2:00 PM with Rev. Ian Wetmore as celebrant. JOHNSTONE, THOMAS We are deeply saddened to announce the sudden passing of Thomas " Tom" R. Johnstone (60) of Waterville-Sunbury County, on October 12, while in Centreville NS. Tom enjoyed several successful careers (Soldier, mechanic, business owner/operator) and recently achieved his goal of becoming a B-Train Truck Driver. During his life, Tom was a loving husband, father and grandfather as well as a loyal and caring friend. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Tom is survived by Beryl (Estabrooks); daughter Lori (Jean Pierre Cantin), son Tom (Christine); grandchildren: Jennifer, Mackenzie, Takoda and Kendra Johnstone, Melina and Zachary Johnstone- Cantin; best friend Deb Armstrong; Sister-in-law Linda (Gary Schamahorn); brother-in-law Joe Estabrooks (Ann) and Austin Estabrooks (Shirley); brother Alex (Bev), sisters Nancy (Leigh Stefanson), Sandy (Doug Meacham), Donna (Larry Maclean) and Tracy (Brent Work) and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Tom was predeceased by his parents Don and Nancy, parent-in-law Jack and Billie, his twin infant brother and infant niece. Cremation and a private service have taken place. A celebration of Tom's life will be held on Wednesday, October 17 at 6:30 p.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 93 - Restigouche Road, Oromocto. October 16, 2007

REID, Doris Emma (nee Simmers) - The family announces with sorrow the passing of Doris Emma Reid (nee Simmers), age 80, on Sunday, October 14th, 2007 in Sudbury. Predeceased by her loving husband Hilford Reid, “Red“ in 2002, and cherished daughter Jane (Reid) Lawryniw, 1985. Predeceased also by her parents, William and Florence Simmers, and one brother, Sydney. Doris is survived by daughter Ruth Reid and son-in-law Eric Moore of Sudbury. Also sister Elaine Peterson, and husband Russell of Windsor. In Timmins, grand daughter Kelly McGee and husband Deaven, great grandchildren Abby and Kira. UHRIK, Anna April 9, 1926 - October 10, 2007 It is with deep sadness and great loss that we announce the passing of our mother and grandmother on Wednesday, October 10, 2007 at the age of 81 years. Anna was born in Roznava, Slovakia (Czechoslovakia) and came to Calgary in 1968 with her husband Frantisek (who predeceased her in 1996) and two young sons. She was a successful restaurateur well known in Calgary for her Hungarian cooking at the famous Tokay Restaurant, which the family operated for more than thirteen years since 1973, as well as for her guest appearances at the Gypsy Bistro more recently. Anna was completely dedicated to her family's well-being and happiness and brought joy and inspiration to everyone that knew her. Anna will be lovingly remembered by her devoted sons and daughters-in-law, Laszlo (Alda), Tibor-Peter (Lieselotte), as well as grandson Mathew. Anna is also survived by her sister Maria (Laszlo) and their daughter Katherine; her brother Stefan in Roznava, Slovakia; and her nieces and nephews, Stefan and wife Elenora of Roznava, and Marika and husband Gabor of Brno. Sister Katalin of Roznava predeceased Anna. RIEBERER, Max It is with great sadness that the family of Max Rieberer announces his passing, very suddenly on Saturday, October 13, 2007. He endured his last year of life with a good nature and always put a smile on the faces of those around him in spite of his ill health. He carried on as always the best he could and lived life to the fullest. He leaves behind to mourn him his most beloved wife of twenty-seven years, Lotte; his children, Christl Rieberer, Wallie Danbrook (Frank) and Hilda Wuntke (Peter); ten grandchildren Jarad, Jordan, Joel, James, Justine, Heidi, Laura, David, Holly and Reid; and two great-grandchildren, Alexanne and Elizabeth. Also Lotte's family, children Susan and Theo, grandchildren Jason (Amber), Anthony, Jennifer, Matthew and son-in-law Keith (Christine), sister Theresa and children, sister Ursula and children of Kelowna. He was predeceased by his son Siegfried in 1998 and daughter Judith in 1962. Max was born on May 28, 1923 in Lassnitz, Steiermark, Austria. As a young man he trained and worked as a tanner and served in Finland in World War II and then immigrated to Canada to start a new life in 1953. His wife, Martha and children followed shortly after. Max started a drywall business which he had until he retired. During his first years in Calgary he became one of the founding members of The Schuhplattlers, an Austrian dance group which recently celebrated its forty-fifth anniversary and has third generation members. Max taught himself to play the accordion while he was still in Austria and played for the Schuhplattlers for forty-five years. He has been a member of the Austrian Canadian Club since its inception and even had his own table in the club for his long-standing regular Wednesday lunch and card game sessions with his friends. He was at the Austrian Club for the last time October 11, 2007 for the annual Octoberfest luncheon and was able to visit with many lifelong friends. Max was an avid big game and mushroom hunter who had hiked every mountain in Kananaskis in pursuit of his passions. Robert Vandenbrink June 26, 1929 - October 06, 2007 Bob Vandenbrink passed away on Saturday, October 6, 2007 at the Dauphin Regional Health Centre at the age of 78 years. Bob was born on June 26, 1929 in Zeist, Holland to William and Mary (nee Vandervan) Vandenbrink. He married Helene Yerama and together they raised two daughters. Bob was a family-oriented man who held his grandchildren especially close to his heart, and in return, they loved him dearly. Bob always cared about those around him, and selflessly placed the needs of others before his own. He leaves to mourn and cherish many happy memories his wife of 48 years, Helene Vandenbrink; two daughters, Carla (Bernie Bilay) and Shaney; five grandchildren, Derek, Randy, Courtney, Branden and Kaylen. Also surviving are two sisters, Eleonora of Portage la Prairie, Manitoba and Wilma and her husband Don of Victoria, British Columbia and one brother-in-law Albert and his wife Linda of Gilbert Plains. Funeral service was held on Tuesday, October 9, 2007 at 7:00 p.m. from the Dauphin Riverside Evergreen Chapel with Reverend Bob Bettson officiating. Amanda Beaulieu provided a musical solo. The eulogy was offered by Bob’s daughter Carla and a special poem was read by daughter Shaney. Interment will follow at a later date at the Gilbert Plains Chatsworth Cemetery. Clement Harry Guimond November 23, 1951 - October 15, 2007 Peacefully in his sleep, Clem left us to be reunited with his parents and family. Left to mourn are Clem’s children, Raymond (Ernestine), Laurie (Kandis) and Elaine (Richard), as well as his brothers and sisters, Violet, Meg (Tony), Rita, Marge (Danny), Margaret (Basil), Lawrence, Charles (Bev) and Aunt Betsy Patrick. She leaves to mourn, her brother Bill Smith (Willa) of Victoria, B.C.; her brother-in-law Bud Bruce; as well as her children, Wayne (Renee) Andrews of Laurel, Montana, Patricia (LaVern) Willoughby of Edmonton, Rick (Robyn) Andrews of Vernon, B.C., Ginny Robblee, Colin (Sandy) Andrews, and Cheryl Andrews all of Calgary. Elle était l'épouse bien-aimée de feu Adolphe Joanisse, la fille de feu Félix Carpentier et de feu Fidélia Larcher. Elle laisse dans le deuil ses enfants: Bernard (Huguette Richard), Gérard (Suzanne Gauthier), Rita, Jacques (Carole Bourgeois), Francine et Pierre. Elle était la grand-maman adorée de 12 petits-enfants: Marc, Chantal, Luc, Daniel, Eric, Jean-François, Mathieu, Caroline, Isabelle, Guillaume, Jessica et Sabrina, ainsi que de 12 arrière-petits-enfants. Elle laisse également ses soeurs: Yolande, Solange, Jeanne et Colette. Elle fut prédécédée par ses frères: Denis, Alcide et Hermas et par ses soeurs: Thérèse, Claire et Géraldine. Elle laisse également plusieurs beaux-frères, belles-soeurs, neveux, nièces, cousins et cousines. La famille tient à remercier le personnel du CLSC des Draveurs, tout spécialement le Dr Marc Lapointe, les infirmières: Colette, Christine et Mélanie. Un merci encore plus spécial à Anne-Marie, son accompagnatrice et confidente. VAN PRAET, Adelard Robert - A resident of Chatham passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, October 15, 2007 at the age of 56 after a long and extremely courageous battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease). Beloved husband of Joanne Elizabeth (Gillier) Van Praet of 35 years. Dear son of the late Joseph and Margariette (Mortier) Van Praet. He was a long time employee of Siemens. Loving father of and sadly missed by Robert and his wife Leashan (McCallum) Van Praet of London, Addie and Chris White of Kent Bridge and Ryan and Mindy (Bowls) Van Praet of Chatham. JAEGER, Cyril George Walter May 30, 1927 - October 14, 2007 After a long and courageous battle with prostate cancer, Cyril passed away in hospital Sunday, October 14. Cyril is survived by his much loved wife Barbara (nee Laurie) of 52 years, his son Peter and daughter Laurie. Cyril was so proud of his children, and a huge fan of his grandchildren Julian Carson, Emma and Joshua Scammell and was looking forward to the arrival of Peter and his partner Zoe's new baby. He is also survived by his sister Daisy Ochsenbein (Ralph) of Switzerland and his extended family in Hemmingford, Quebec. Heartfelt thanks to the CCAC and Bayshore Home Care for their support and kindness. A Memorial Service to follow later in November when Peter can arrive from Somerset, England. Dear father of Bill, Sarnia, Jim & his wife Jane, Toronto, Bob & his wife Tricia, Corunna and David & his wife Andrea, Toronto. Cherished “Papa“ of Troy and Kyle of Corunna, and Connor, Liam and Delaney of Toronto. Brother of John & his wife Joan, Sr. Margaret Ferris, CSJ and May O'Meara all of London. Brother-in-law of Bill & his wife Margaret Wiley, Perth and proud uncle of many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by parents Henry & Kathleen, son John David and sister Eileen. Harry was a graduate of DeLasalle High School, London and the Institute of Chartered Accountants. He practiced with Revenue Canada, Massey Ferguson, Ferris and Leigh and Ewart Holbrook and Associates. He joined BDO Dunwoody in 1977 as a senior partner from where he retired. Harry served with many charitable organizations and service clubs including the Sarnia Kinsmen Club and the Sarnia Kiwanis Club and was an active member of the Sarnia Golf & Curling Club for over 30 years. The family would like to thank Dr. Glen Maddison and the staff of the Bluewater Health Palliative Care Unit for their attentive care and support. NEELY, George Byron (Kent) July 28, 1937 - October 12, 2007 Kent Neely, beloved husband of Mara, loving father of Shawn (Patty), Michael, Sandra (Derek), John, and Jennifer (Larry), and precious grandfather to Tyrone, Alexandra, Andrew, and Caleb, brother of Diane (John), went home to Our Lord on October 12, 2007. Kent was born in Lucky Lake and raised in Regina, Saskatchewan. He received an Engineering Degree from the University of Saskatchewan, and practiced his profession in British Columbia before settling in Alberta. He enjoyed working for Associated Engineering in Edmonton and was later transferred to Calgary. He had twenty-four very happy years with Associated Engineering. Kent, a kind, gentle loving man, was a friend to everyone. He kept his great sense of humour even in the face of his many illnesses. Kent will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.
