RUSSELL, THEODORE GLENITA - 83; of North Head, Grand Manan, N.B. passed away at the Grand Manan Nursing Home on Tuesday, October 16th, 2007 after a lengthy illness. She was the daughter of the late Theodore (Ted) and Alma Griffin of North Head. She attended school on Grand Manan and graduated in 1940. Mrs. Griffin was employed in her earlier years at the North Head Factory as a secretary and later at the Bank of Nova Scotia. She married Ross H. Russell on October 21, 1945 in a partnership of love in life and work. She and Ross built the North Head Irving service station in 1950 and a short time later they operated the Island's largest retail store at that time, a general merchandise store, called Ross H. Russell Ltd. Theo worked in the store doing the books and much of the buying while raising a family. They closed their store in 1972 and ran a wholesale distributorship. Theo was a beautiful piano and organ player. A member of the North Head Wesleyan Church where she employed her musical talents and her vibrant personality until she was physically unable, and through the years she organized many musical events, Christmas Concerts, Choir Cantatas, special singing groups for solos, church services, and many special Island events. She is survived by her daughter, Shelley (Wayne) Veysey, Grand Manan; one daughter-in-law, Nicole Cushing Russell of Halifax, N.S. and Washington, DC.; one sister-in-law, Helena Russell of North Head; also four grandchildren, Russell, Justine Thompson, Petitcodiac, N.B., Kathleen and Nadine Thompson, Grand Manan; and two step-grandchildren Scott and Jill Veysey, Sussex, N.B. Mrs. Russell was predeceased by her husband, Ross H. Russell in 2003; and her son, Brian Ross Russell as result of a tragic traffic accident in Washington, DC. August 25, 2007; and one brother, Allison Griffin of Halifax, N.S. The family will receive friends and relatives at Ells Funeral Home on Thursday, October 18th, 2-4 PM, 7-9 PM. The funeral service will be held from the North Head Wesleyan Church, on Friday, October 19th, at 1:30 PM with Rev. Charles Bain officiating, interment to follow in the North Head Community Cemetery. MULLIN, W. ARTHUR - The death of Mr. W. Arthur Mullin of Saint John West, occurred at his residence on October 15, 2007. Born in Saint John, he was the son of the late Charles and Frances (Given) Mullin. Mr. Mullin attended St. Rose and Vocational schools in his youth, and later worked in the stores department of the former Dr. Roberts Hospital. Arthur was also known as the unofficial " Mayor" of the Lancaster Mall. Mr. Mullin is survived by his two sisters, Catherine Goguen and Shirley Doucette of Saint John; several nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews; great -great nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Joe Kane and Albert Mullin; three sisters, Mary Moore, Fran Donnelly, and Theresa Donner. Resting at Castle "Fallsview" Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Ave (634-1701). LAWSON, PAMELA CATHERINE (BUCHANAN) July 6, 1947 - October 12, 2007 - It is with great love and sadness we announce the passing of Pamela on Friday, October 12, 2007 after a courageous 2-year battle with cancer. She is survived by her husband of 36 years, George W. Lawson of South Surrey, BC; daughter, Melissa Beechey (Brent); son, Jonathan (Stephanie); grandchildren, Alexander and Amanda Beechey; parents, Norman and Janetta Buchanan of St. Stephen, NB; sisters, Janice Buchanan and Gale MacDonald of Fredericton, NB and brother, Bruce Buchanan of Langley, BC. GUERRETTE, JOSEPH E. - Joseph Eudore Guerrette of Fredericton passed away at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital on Saturday, October 13th, 2007. He was 88. Born August 10th, 1919 in Edmundston, N.B., the son of the late Wilfred and Edmee (Pickard) Guerrette and husband of the late Kathleen (Tremblay) Guerrette. He was a veteran of WWII with the RCAF, serving in England attached to the RAF as a Radar Technician. After the war he enrolled at the University of New Brunswick, where he obtained a degree of BSC in Electrical Engineering in 1950. He was employed as an electrical engineer by NB Power for 15 years and by the Provincial Government for 20 years where he retired in 1983. He leaves behind his daughter, Paryse at home; son Daniel (Susan) of Nepean, ON; grandson Nicholas; granddaughter Nadine, both of Nepean, ON; two sisters Alice Voisine of Fredericton and Jeannine Guerrette of Hartford, CT. Besides his parents and wife, he was predeceased by two brothers, Raymond and Harris; a sister Teresa Todzia; daughter-in-law Ellen (McKinley) Guerrette. The funeral service will be held on Friday, October 19th, 2007 at 4:00 pm at Ste-Anne-des-Pays Bas Church, 715 Priestman St., Fredericton, with Father S. Paulin officiating. CURREN, GEORGE H. - The death of George Henry Curren of Saint John West, beloved husband of 65 years to Hilda (Shaw) Curren, occurred peacefully on Monday, October 15, 2007 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Born in Saint John on September 14, 1919, he was the son of the late Harmon and Elizabeth (Henderson) Curren. Mr. Curren was a veteran of World War II, serving overseas with the Canadian Army from 1943-1946. George was employed with Speedy T.V. for 25 years before his retirement and was an active member of Douglas Avenue Christian Church. Besides his loving wife Hilda, he is survived by one son, David of Toronto, ON; several nieces and nephews, and many friends. He was predeceased by one son, Brian Curren in 1984; three sisters, Elizabeth, Marion and Dorothy; and seven brothers, Edward, Donnie, Charlie, Manford, Jim, Stanley and Walter. WILLIAMS, CAROL FAITH (BROOKS) The passing of Carol Faith (Brooks) Williams, wife of the late Hartley Williams, of Fredericton, NB, occurred on October 16, 2007 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Born on June 27, 1920, in Boston, MA, she was a daughter of the late Rudolph and Annie (Slaunewaite) Brooks. Carol was a Clerk at Laskey's Drug Store for many years, which later became Devon Drug. She loved interacting with people through her work. Carol enjoyed gardening, flowers and was an animal lover, especially her poodle, Corey. Carol is survived by one daughter, Janet Donovan (James) of Fredericton Junction; one daughter-in-law, Mary Killam of Fredericton; one grandson, Timothy James Donovan of Fredericton Junction; three granddaughters, Sheri Dawn Killam of Matsuyama, Japan, Lori Lynn Aitken (Douglas) of Calgary, AB, Martha Grace Donovan of Boston, MA; one great grandson, Cole of Fredericton Junction; one sister, Connie Beck of Halifax, NS; two half sisters, Rita Russell (Donald) and Thelma Cabral both of Boston, MA; two sisters-in-law, Beatrice Brooks of Ottawa, ON, Margaret Brooks of Boston, MA; niece, Barbara MacLeod (Ken) of Baddeck, NS and one nephew, George Beck of Halifax, NS and several other nieces and nephews. GOODINE, HELEN VICTORIA Helen V. Goodine of Smithfield, York County passed away unexpectedly at her home on October 15, 2007. Helen was born in Montreal, Quebec in 1936, a daughter of the late Harry and Helen (Nesbitt) Styran. She was an avid gardener and animal lover and enjoyed all of her various pets. Along with being a wife and mother, Helen had been employed with Kings Landing, the Federal Department of Fisheries and drove school bus for a number of years. BOWES, (BRENNAN) MARY EVELYN "PAULINE" The passing of Mary Evelyn "Pauline" (Brennan) Bowes, wife of the late Murdock Bowes, of Fredericton, NB, occurred on October 16, 2007 at her home. Born on June 16, 1918, in Blissfield, NB, she was a daughter of the late Robert and Sarah (Weaver) Brennan. Pauline worked at many jobs but her most cherished memories came from being the House Mother at Rosary Hall. She cherished her time with her family. Pauline was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Roman Catholic Church, Lincoln, NB, Catholic Womens League of Canada, past member of the Seniors Group and the Women's Institute. Jennifer Dawn Slagerman May 06, 1982 - October 13, 2007 Accidentally on October 13, 2007, our daughter, sister, granddaughter and aunt was taken from us. Although Jennifer's life was short, she liked to live it to the fullest. Jennifer was born on May 6, 1982 and spent her entire life on the family farm at Rosser. She attended Rosser and Grosse Isle elementary and graduated from Warren Collegiate and then Herzing College with Honours and on the Dean's list. Jennifer is survived by her loving parents, Dale and Paulette, brothers, Raymond (Susan, Kyla and Emily), Ryan and nephew William Slagerman, fiancé Scott Cords, grandparents, Rose Marie Lamontange, Evelyn and Harvey Buchanan and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. She was predeceased by her grandfathers, Harry Slagerman, Roland Lamontange and recently by her great-grandmother Kathleen Peterson. PATTERSON, Garry On Sunday, October 14, 2007 Mr. Garry Patterson passed away suddenly at the age of 70 years. He will be lovingly remembered by his family and by many friends. Garry leaves to mourn, his sister Joan, two sons Kent, Wayne (Marni) and their mother Shirley, and daughter Tanya Gottstein (Armin) and Tanya's mother Eunice. He also leaves seven stepchildren, Dwayne (Karen), Brent, Dwight (Laurie), Shelley (Karl), Karen (Michael), Susan (Darren), Lana (Bryce), seventeen grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins. Garry was predeceased by his parents Myrtle and Gordon. Garry was born in Regina, Saskatchewan and grew up in Rolling Hills, Alberta. Sometime after moving to Edmonton, Garry joined the Edmonton Police Service where he had a long and successful career, Garry retired from the EPS as a Detective. An avid curler and golfer, Garry participated in many Edmonton Police Service teams and could be found doing either one in much of his spare time. Garry was a family man who surrounded himself by those he loved and who loved him. His sense of humour will be missed, as will his contagious smile. A Celebration of Garry's Life will be held at ST. SIMR, Celestin "Cel" John 1930 - 2007 Cel died peacefully on October 13, 2007 at Chinook Hospice. He was born in Prague, Czech Republic (Czechoslovakia) on December 10, 1930. Cel attended various schools in Europe and he graduated from Hurstpierpoint College in England, McGill University, Montreal with B.Eng. mechanical and University of Toronto with MBA. He spent a few years with Westinghouse in Hamilton, ON, followed by a number of years with Shell Canada in Alberta. Ultimately he was a co-founder of Tri Ocean Engineering in Calgary from where he retired. Cel is survived by his loving wife of fifty-three years, Dixie (Anne Dixon Moffatt); and his children, son Peter Celestin (Patty, nee Belding) and daughter Gayle Anne Rothe (Klaus); and three grandchildren, Brittney Ann Simr, Brodie Arno and Kayla Marie Rothe. The family would like to thank Carla Holt and staff of Home Care for their loving care during this difficult time. Anna Alicia Hester Jackson (Beach) It is with great sadness and love that we announce the peaceful passing of our mother, Hester "Hetty" Jackson of Wolfville, on Thursday, October 11, in Valley Regional Hospital in Kentville, her loving sister by her side. Hetty will be remembered fondly by her only sister, Jane; nieces and nephews; extended family members and a host of friends, former students, and all those who have known her over the fullness of her 86 years. Hetty was born at home on Duncan Street, Halifax, on June 21, 1921, to the late Lenny and Herbert Beach. Her early enthusiasm for music became a lifelong calling as she began her studies at the Maritime Academy of Music and culminated her formal education by receiving a Licentiate of Music from Dalhousie University in the early 1940's. Newly graduated, Hetty Beach became one of the first music teachers in the Halifax public school system. In the summer of 1947, on June 14, Hetty and Donald Jackson were married in St. Paul's Church in Halifax. In 1949 Don was ordained as a Baptist minister at Acadia University. Over the following years their ministry took them to churches in Seabright, Perth-Andover and Moncton in New Brunswick, St. Hilaire in Quebec and finally they settled in Port Williams. They treasured special memories of each congregation. Hetty's first passion was for her family to whom she devoted her life. Sharing her love of music, especially with her husband, her sons and her students, meant the world to Hetty, as she gracefully gave of her time and her heart. She glowed with pride for each of their accomplishments. As an organist, Hetty brought joy playing for hundreds of ceremonies, from weddings to baptisms to memorials and funerals. Always dignified and always wearing the latest fashion in hats, she accompanied soloists in voice instruments, performing in venues ranging from church services to concerts to music festivals. Over her careers, Hetty was recognized with countless awards and commendations for her unique contribution to the world of music. Hester Jackson will never be forgotten as her graciousness, love, and friendship has touched our hearts and left us with many precious memories to take with each and every one of us. God blessed you Hetty. Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 60 years, Rev. Donald Jackson and her sons, Christopher, Timothy, and Peter Jackson. Her grandchildren, Mathieu, Simon, Nicolas, Charles, Montgomery, and Spencer will greatly miss their Nanny. The family would like to give special thanks to all her caregivers in Kentville and Wolfville who helped our mother through her illness. OBITUARY SAMUEL GODINSKY Died peacefully at home on October 15, 2007 at the age of one hundred and one, after a wonderful and full life. Beloved husband of the late Vera Raphael Godinsky, cherished father of John, Paul and Jeffrey Godine, and cherished father-in-law of Frances and Sarala, loved grandfather of Joshua and Laura, Shannon and Dustin, devoted brother of (all late) Kate Colle, Isadore Godine and Pearl Eidinger. He served as an Acting Judge Advocate General in the RCAF during WWII. He then returned to his law practice, becoming one of the first and most respected experts in intellectual property law in Montreal. He served the YMHA, including as President. He helped to negotiate an end to the policy of religion-based restriction on membership of the Protestant School Board of Greater Montreal, and then became one of the Board's first five Jewish members. Celebration of his life at the Mount Royal Funeral Complex, on 1297 Chemin de la Foret, in Outremont, on Wednesday, October 17 at 2 p.m. The family will be at his home from 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, October 17 and Thursday, October 18. POLLAK, Fred A. CD Maj. (ret'd) Royal Canadian Dragoons Peacefully at the Elisabeth Bruyere Palliative Care Centre in Ottawa on October 16th, 2007 in his 89th year. Beloved husband of Ann (Guthrie). Wonderful dad of Susan, Catherine (Eric Slone), Nancy, Robin (Tim Verster) and his late daughter, Elizabeth. Loving grandfather of David, Christopher and Matthew Schultz, Ted and Laura Slone, and Desiree Pollak-Garcia. Delighted great-grandfather of Isabelle Fulford and Anne-Elise Schultz. Fred will also be greatly missed by his brother, John Pollak (Zdena) and sister Gerta McLean; cousins Hannah Spencer (Elvins), Mimi Rosenbluth (Gideon), Eva Lipa (the late Michael), and Margit Smith (Lloyd); nieces Patsy, Andra and Carla, and nephew Jan; other family members, and many good friends. Fred was born to Anna and Otto Pollak in Brezno, Czechoslovakia, on May 20, 1919. His family came to Canada as refugees in 1939. Fred enlisted in the Canadian army, served four years overseas and then settled into a long and colourful career in military intelligence. Fred was a charming, disarming and mischievous man, passionate about history, his family and friends, and the great outdoors. He and Ann were a splendidly matched duo of world travellers and bon vivants. Fred made us laugh, and the many pleasures of his company will not soon be forgotten. Friends are invited to visit at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 315 McLeod Street, Ottawa, on Thursday from 2-4 & 7-9pm. Spirit Journey December 25, 1992 - October 15, 2007 RESTOULE, Derek Anthony - As a result of a bicycle accident, the Creator has taken Derek's hand and is now leading him through his spirit journey. Derek entered into his spirit journey at the Hospital for Sick Children on Monday October 15, 2007 at the age of 14 years. Beloved son of Lisa Restoule and brother and best friend Jamie and father Kevin Debassige (Candice). He will be sadly missed by his other siblings Linda, Leslie, Gabriella and Willow. Cherished grandson of Tinny and Beverly Restoule of Dokis First Nation and Jim Debassige (deceased) and Pauline Debassige of M'Chigeeng First Nation. Also survived by his aunts and uncles Renee (Luc), Lori (Brian), Derek (Jessica), and cousins Troy, Brian Jr., Presley, Melanie, Arizona and Sierra. Aunts and uncles Blake (Shirley), Janet (Abby), Darren (Jessie), Cynthia (Alan) and cousins Amy, Ashley, Dustin, Nano, Dawn, Richard. Dear uncle to Pierre, and he will be sadly missed by his lifelong friend Casey Restoule. He will also be missed by godparents Sharon Restoule and Rodney Corbiere. Derek was a student at Widdifield Secondary School where he was a proud member of the junior Wildcats football team, he was also an avid swimmer, water skier, snowboarder and played in the West Nipissing AA hockey program for many years. Derek's fun loving spirit and knack for making people laugh will live on by helping others through the gift of organ donation.
