BROUGH, Mary Ellen (nee Pullen) Passed away peacefully at age 87 in her residence. Predeceased by her parents Muriel and Ernest and brother Peter (Enid) of Oakville. Caring wife for 60 years of the late James Norris, mother of Don (Susan) of Chatsworth, Laurie and grandmother to Christy of Calgary and Todd of New Haven, Conn. Raised in the foothills of Alberta, with strong family ties to Oakville she was a resident of Ottawa for over 50 years. Mary is fondly remembered as a determined, loyal and artistic contributor to family, friends and her community. She dedicated many years to the creation of The Canadian Ski Museum. For the past 3 1/2 years, Mary received loving care and companionship from the staff and residents of Mapleview Nursing Home. The family is sincerely grateful. Mary's life will be celebrated with a memorial service at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, August 29 in St. Thomas Anglican Church, Owen Sound. Interment at a later date in Ottawa. BURTON, Dr. Jeanne Louise Associate Professor Michigan State University Jeannie Louise Burton, 48, died peacefully at her country home near Bellaire, Michigan, surrounded by family and best friends, on Sunday, August 26, 2007, following a short but brave battle against cancer. A graduate of Havergal College, in Toronto, Ontario and of the University of Guelph, in Guelph, Ontario, Jeannie was Associate Professor in the Department of Animal Science at Michigan State University, in East Lansing, Michigan, specializing in Dairy Cattle Immunophysiology and Immunogenetics. Jeanne was a member of the Dairy Science Association, the American Association of Veterinary Immunologists and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. Jeanne published over 70 peer-reviewed articles on bovine immunology and was a frequent reviewer for Canadian and American scientific granting agencies. She devoted her life to loving her family and friends, mentoring her students and collaborating with colleagues throughout the world. Jeannie was born on August 12, 1959, in Toronto, Ontario, daughter of the late Edgar (Ted) and Jane Cody Burton. She leaves her beloved husband Paul Coussens of Lansing, Michigan, and her faithful canine companions Bradley, Sammy and Cody. She is also survived by her step children, Matt Coussens (Sarah), Maria O'Rourke (Rob), Mark Coussens (Chelsea), Michael Coussens, and Merrick Coussens, all of the United States, and by her sister Nancy Burton and brothers Lieutenant Colonel Greg Burton (Pauline Dallain) and David Burton, all of Canada. She was the loving aunt of James and Lyndsay Burton, of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Charlie Burton of Cookstown, Ontario, and Sarah Kennedy of Banff, Alberta. SADAVOY, Patricia (nee Bawden) At the Elisabeth-Bruyere Health Centre in Ottawa on August 27, 2007 at the age of 63, after a lenthy illness. Beloved wife of David Toms of Ottawa. Dearly loved mother of Marion Sadavoy and Andrew Sadavoy (Tanya) of Toronto, cherished sister of Eric Bawden (Leta Pedersen) of Greely, Ontario, dear daughter-in-law of Margaret Toms of Ottawa and loved sister-in-law of Eric Toms of High Level, Alberta. Fondly remembered by many long-time friends and colleagues whom she touched with her kindness and sensitivity, and sorely missed by the many she helped. Pat was always a tireless advocate for the weak and the needy, at various stages of her life teaching English as a second language to immigrant women in Toronto, for many years running a Christmas hampers program in Ottawa, and in recent years volunteering as a director and president of Abbeyfield House, Ottawa, a small non-profit home for independent seniors. At the request of the deceased there will be no funeral or visitation, but a memorial service will be held for Pat on Friday, August 31 at McLeod-Stewarton United Church, 507 Bank St. (at Argyle Ave)., commencing at 11 a.m., Reverend Cyril Cook officiating. Roma was a master gardener and artist and a dedicated member of the Rideau Lakes Art Association; she will be fondly remembered by all her family and her friends. GORMAN, John. Passed away of cancer at Mount Sinai Hospital, Montreal, at age eighty-one, on August 26, 2007. John joins his twin brother, Justin, who died on January 1st. John was born June 17, 1926 in Quebec City, attended St. Pat's High School and graduated as a Mechanical Engineer from St. Francis Xavier University in New Brunswick. He had a long career with Davies Shipbuilding in Levis, Quebec, and worked as a consultant for years, traveling the world, before retiring in Montreal. Predeceased by his mother, Katie Timmins, father, John Sr., sisters, Joan and Fran, and brothers, Ernie, Paul, and Justin. John will be missed by his nieces and nephews, and good friends. Predeceased by her parents Alma and Percy Homewood and her brothers William and James, she leaves to mark her accomplishments and mourn her passing: her husband of 51 years Michael Garrod Elston, their daughters and their families Marjorie and Mark Stintzi (grandsons Paul, John, and David) of Bergland ON; Katherine and Patrick McCune (grandsons Colin and Sean) of New Westminster; Eleanor Elston and her husband Chris Meyer (grandsons Fraser and Nevil) of Colwood; and Suzanne Elston of Coquitlam. Also her nieces Ann Hutchinson of Ladysmith, Verna Proud of Creston, Carol Powell of Abbotsford, and Kip Levinsky of Summerland, and their husbands, children, and grandchildren. Alice also leaves several cousins, and many friends, especially Marilynn Odberg of Saanich. Alice was a teacher, and taught at Coal Harbour, Sinclair Mills, Prince George, and Whitehorse YT. Throughout her life Alice was an outdoorswoman, nature lover, birder, dog lover, and quilter. But above all, she was wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, great aunt, and great-great aunt, nurturing and supporting her family. The family thanks the numerous medical men and women of skill, care, and dedication who cared for her health. ENRIGHT, William (Bill) H. - After a courageous battle with skin cancer, William (Bill) H. Enright passed away at Groves Memorial Community Hospital in Fergus, on August 25, 2007 at the age of 69. CHARLTON, Alec Fawcett, passed away in Weyburn, Sk on August 26, 2007 at the age of 81 years following a lengthy battle with cancer. Alec will always be remembered by his wife of 59 years, Norma, and his children: Joan (Garry) Kruger and their children Judd and Erin Kruger; Garth (Marilyn) Charlton and their children Jeromy (Arden, and great-grandson Matthew Charlton) and Jamie (Shaina); and Mary-Lynn Charlton (David Thornton) and their daughters Kate and Halle. He is also survived by his sister Isobel Norman. He was predeceased by two sisters, one brother and his parents. Alec was a well-known Canadian Hereford cattle producer and farmed in the Talmage district. He was one of the founders of the Weyburn District Regional 4-H Show, Past-President of the Weyburn Agricultural Society, served as Councillor for the Rural Municipality of Weyburn for 12 years and served as Councillor for the village of Kenosee for 12 years. He served on many other community and cattle association boards and committees throughout his life, something he enjoyed. Alec was inducted into the Canadian Hereford Honour Roll and was honoured with several Saskatchewan Hereford Association awards. On Friday, August 31 a private family burial service will take place at Green Acres Memorial Gardens near Weyburn, followed by a Memorial Tea at the Captain's Hall, 122 4th St. N.E., Weyburn, beginning at 1:30. FRUNCILLO, Carmine January 2, 1939 - August 26, 2007 Carmine Fruncillo, beloved husband of Vittoria Fruncillo of Calgary, passed away on Sunday, August 26, 2007 at the age of 68 years. Carmine was born January 2, 1939 in Forino, Avellino, Italy, and immigrated to Canada on May 12, 1970. He married Vittoria Posata on August 29, 1970 in Calgary. Besides his loving wife, Vittoria, Carmine is also survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Rino and Chiara of Calgary and Mark of Calgary. Carmine is also survived by his two brothers and a sister-in-law, Domenico of Torino, Italy and Paolo and Luigina of Forino, Italy; as well as a nephew Carmine and Iole Fruncillo and family of Calgary; and many other nieces and nephews in Canada and Italy. Carmine owned and operated Carmen's Stucco, to which he was very dedicated, from 1974 until the time of his death. His son Rino, who was a partner with Carmine since 2001, will continue to operate the Company. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. KEMP, Peter John Pemberton August 16, 1950 - August 24, 2007 With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Peter Kemp who died while hiking in the upper Kananaskis, on Friday, August 24, 2007. Peter is survived by his beloved wife and dearest friend, Dr. Mary Mahon; his darling daughters, Rosemary Kemp and Morgan Power-Lesov; beloved son William; mother Avril Kemp (nee Dell) of Hamilton, ON; and his sister Susan Watson (Paul).
