Myles passed away peacefully, with his family at his side, on Saturday 07 July 2007 at Roger's House, Ottawa, Canada. Barker, Dana James - Born on September 9, 1975 and passed away suddenly on Friday, July 27, 2007 at the age of 31 years. He was predeceased by his father Jim Barker; aunt Violet Wray and grandparents William and Florence Barker and William and Maria Schoenthaler. Dana is survived by his loving mother Donna; partner Fia; daughter Lula; brother Chris; sister Julie; as well as great aunts, aunts; uncles, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Dana was born in Regina where he spent most of his life. He graduated from Martin Collegiate and quickly worked his way up the ladder in the electrical sales industry, spending the last four years with Jebco Agencies Inc. Dana loved his career and had a bright future. Dana took pride in looking after his family. He touched many lives and was always willing to lend a helping hand to family, friends and neighbours. Dana also enjoyed spending time with his pets and playing golf. The recent arrival of his baby girl brought Dana his greatest joy. Dana was taken from us too soon, but he will live on in the hearts of all those who knew and loved him. LAIRD, Gayle Katherine 1949 - 2007 Gayle Katherine Laird passed on suddenly while hiking near Canmore, AB, on Saturday, July 28, 2007 at the age of 58 years. Gayle was born into a pioneer Banff family where she grew to develop a passionate love for the mountains and the outdoors. She was a graduate of the University of Alberta, Simon Frazer and Gonzaga Universities with degrees in education, recreational activities and a Masters in Counselling. She taught school in Kamloops, Edmonton, Wetaskiwin and Calgary where she had a particular love for teaching developmentally impaired children. Gayle was a life member of the Norseman Ski Club and a master skier of legendary speed and grace. She excelled at downhill, back country and cross country skiing. She was also a lover of strenuous hikes and backpack trips. She was a fifteen year leader with the Calgary Weekend Hikers and more recently a member of the exclusive Yo-Bear Hiking Club. In 1997, Gayle and her husband, Tom, formed the v, a company dedicated to helping individuals, couples and teams understand their personality dynamics so that they might live more productive and fulfilling lives. Gayle was an author, a pianist, a singer, a spiritual seeker and teacher. She was gifted with a marvellous athleticism and a brilliant mind. She was intensely social by nature with an incredible zest for life. Gayle was liked, loved and cherished by many people - she will be profoundly missed. Besides her husband, Tom, Gayle is survived by a stepdaughter, Tanis; grandchildren, Naomi and Jeremy of Nanaimo, B.C.; mother, Edith of Duncan, B.C.; sister and brother-in-law, Pat and Nick and their children, Katie and Chris of Santa Cruz, CA; and brother and sister-in-law, Howard and Susan and their children, Aaron, Alex and April of Surrey, B.C. RAGAN, Lillian 1916 - 2007 Lillian Ragan passed away on Sunday, July 29, 2007 at the age of 91 years. She was born in 1916 in the town of Rush Lake, SK. Her husband Jack predeceased Lillian in 1995. Lillian is survived by her sons Bill and John (Carol); five grandchildren Scott, John, David, Jeff, and James; and sister Flora Foss. We are profoundly saddened by her passing which is made easier, realizing she had a long and happy life. RUDOLPH, Colin Colin Rudolph passed away unexpectedly on July 28, 2007. He is survived by his loving parents Walter and Colleen Rudolph and brother Jason Rudolph of Springbank, Alberta; and grandmother Ruth Chell and grandparents Ann and Henry Rudolph of Lethbridge, Alberta. Born April 7, 1989 in Calgary, Colin was raised in Redwood Meadows, attending school at Banded Peak and later graduating from Calgary Academy. Colin lived life to the fullest: skiing, mountain biking, and volunteering in sports and community events. He had an extraordinary love and loyalty for his family and friends. Colin will be remembered and missed by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and a multitude of friends in the skiing, biking, school, and Bragg Creek communities. A Viewing and Memorial Service for Colin will be held at the Bragg Creek Community Centre (23 White Avenue) on Thursday, August 2, 2007. CONKIN, Audrey Lily (nee Fitzgerald) May 15, 1924 - July 27, 2007 It is with profound sadness that the family of Audrey Lily Conkin say good-bye to their very special mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Audrey was predeceased by her husband George, daughter Brenda and grandson Bobby. Audrey met George in England during the war and came to Canada in 1946 with their infant son John. She was an active member of the Alberta War Bride Association and enjoyed many fun times with them. She is survived by her son John (Kathy), daughter Penny (Joe), son Danny (Colleen), daughter Linda (Alvin), son Mike and niece Brenda (Pat) of Woodstock, England. She has sixteen grandchildren and thirty great-grandchildren who all love her dearly and will miss her vibrant and fun personality. We treasure many memories of our mum, which will stay in our hearts as long as we travel this earth. Until we meet again mum, we love you. O'BRIEN, Mary Rita On Friday, July 27, 2007, Rita passed away peacefully in her home with her family by her side. Rita was predeceased by her parents, John T. and Marcella O'Brien, brother Lawrence O'Brien, brother-in-law John Overend and niece Maureen O'Brien. Rita will be lovingly remembered by her sisters, Sister Eleanor O'Brien (Sister Mary Rita), and Catherine Overend; her brother Bert (Dorothy) O'Brien; her many nieces and nephews; grand-nieces and nephews, and several close friends. Rita worked for most of her professional career in various positions at Canada Trust in their Calgary and Vancouver offices. She loved to travel with family and friends and especially enjoyed her visits to Palm Springs with her sister and extended family. Rita was an avid reader and could be relied upon to give an informed opinion on current events. She took pleasure in following several sports over the years including curling and football. PURVES, Arthur Beattie November 1, 1906 - July 29, 2007 He passed away peacefully with his family at his side. He will be sadly missed by his daughter, Mary Lemon (Cal) and by his son, Ross Purves (Diana); grandchildren, Sandra and Brian (Vanessa) and great-grandchildren, Levi and Ariele. He will also be missed by his sister, Ethel Dewar and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Edith in 1977 and his second wife Beth in 1998. He was blessed with two great wives, many friends and enjoyed many travels around the world. Arthur worked for Stanley Brock until his retirement to Victoria where he enjoyed golf. Arthur was a great friend to those who knew him and was a great family man. He had a positive mental attitude and thought well of others. Arthur was a member of the Victoria Golf Club and the Union Club of Victoria. Thank you to all the wonderful staff at Douglas House who lovingly cared for Arthur the past two-and-a-half years. David Edward MacKenzie November 12, 1949 - July 28, 2007 With broken hearts we say goodbye to our much loved husband, dad, grandpa, brother and friend David, who passed away suddenly, July 28, 2007. David will be sadly missed by many close family and friends. Left to remember him are his wife Carol, daughter Kari and husband Jason (DeGroot), son Jeff, daughter Stacey, and his two beautiful grandchildren Darian and Braeden. Also left to mourn are his brothers Donald (Jane & Family), Dennis (Lois & Family) and his dear family friends Dorothy, Livia, Lyn & McKenzy Gloux, Larry Marrese, Ken Crowly, and many others, too numerous to mention. Dave was born in Winnipeg and spent many years living in Weston. He married his wife Carol and they raised their three children in East Kildonan where he currently resided. Dave dedicated over 32 years to his job at MTS for which he took much pride in his work. Dave liked living life to the fullest and loved the simple things in life. He took such pride in his children and grandchildren, and never turned down the opportunity to spend time with them. He enjoyed being one of the boys; golfing, curling, playing pool, baseball, and card games. We have many fond memories camping and taking many holidays together. Dave always looked for and found the best in everyone. He will be sadly missed by all. We sincerely thank the selfless actions of our neighbors and friends, paramedics, Grace Hospital ICU staff, and the many family and friends who have supported us through this trying time. JAWORSKI, Anton “Tony“ - In loving memory of Anton “Tony“ Jaworski, age 79, who passed away on Sunday, July 29th, 2007 at the Sudbury Regional Hospital - St. Joseph's Health Center, following a courageous battle with cancer. Tony was born 27th of May 1928 in Maysfield, Saskatchewan to Alfreda Jaworkski (nee Angielski) and Anton Jaworski Sr both predeceased. Raised in farming communities in central Saskatchewan he moved to Dowling and shortly after retiring, moved to Sudbury in 1992. Tony worked for Falconbridge Nickel Mines retiring as a Hoistman in 1986, with over 30 years service. Tony is survived by his loving wife Celestine “Sally“ Jaworski (Osika) of Sudbury and three loving daughters: Wanda Schouten (husband Gerry Schouten) of Espanola, Pauline Jaworski (husband Kari Lindroos) of Sudbury and Annette Daoust (husband Jeannot Daoust) of Capreol. Loving Dziadek (grandfather) to Matthew, Tyler, Sheldon, Kaley, Eve, Katherine and Colin. He is further survived by brother James Jaworski of Regina, Saskatchewan, sister Freda Wanless of Brandon, Manitoba, sister Wilhelmena Verity of Outlook, Saskatchewan and sister Rose (husband Joe (Weisgerber of Weyburn, Saskatchewan. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews and other relatives. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by sister Marg Kyryluk, brothers Ed Jaworski, Fred Jaworski, and infant brothers Harry Jaworski, and George Jaworski. Resting at the JACKSON AND BARNARD FUNERAL HOME, Sudbury. Funeral Mass in St. Andrew the Apostle Church, 1250 Barrydowne Rd., Wednesday, August 1st, 2007 at 10 a.m. Interment in the Civic Cemetery. RYMES, FRANCES MABEL The death of Frances Rymes occurred on Sunday, July 29, 2007 at York Manor Nursing Home. She was predeceased by her parents James and Bessie (Keirstead) Rymes and brother, Clifford K. Rymes. Surviving Frances are her nephews, Clifford and Gerry Rymes as well as several cousins. Frances was a retired teacher in New Brunswick for over forty years and principal of Charlotte Street School. Also a member of Brunswick Street Baptist Church and a Dominion Life Member of the Baptist Women's Missionary Society of Canada. She was involved in many organizations throughout her lifetime including the Sir Howard Douglas Chapter IODE and the Retired Teachers Association. Visitation will be held at McAdam's Select Community Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 31st, 2007 from 7-9 pm. The funeral service will take place in the J.A. BEST, James (Calbert) Peacefully, on July 30, 2007, age 81. Calbert was the son of the late Dr. Carrie Best and Albert T. Best of New Glasgow, Nova Scotia. Predeceased by his adored wife Doreen (Phills). He will be deeply missed by his loving children Christene, Jamie (Nancy) grandchildren Nicola and Sarah; Stephen (Frances) and grandchildren Evan, Aidan, and Avery; and Kevin (Arwa) as well as by his close friend Suzanne Lozano and foster sisters Berma and Sharon Marshall. He will be fondly remembered by his cousins Brenda Clayton and Edith Holmes and by the entire Phills family. As a young man, Cal and his mother Carrie founded the first African-Canadian owned newspaper, the Clarion, in New Glasgow. After graduating with a B.A. in Political Science and diploma in journalism from King's College, Dalhousie University in 1948, he did post-graduate work in Public Administration before moving to Ottawa in1949. His distinguished 49 year career as civil servant and diplomat began in the Department of Labour. It was there that he co-founded the Civil Service Association of Canada, which evolved into the Public Service Association of Canada. He served as the CSAC's first president from 1957-66. Subsequently he served as Director, Personnel & Administration, Office of the Comptroller of Treasury (1966-69); Director-General Administration, Dept. of Supply & Services (1969-70); Assistant Deputy, Dept. of Manpower and Immigration (1970-75). He was seconded to the Commonwealth Secretariat in 1975 and spent two years in London, England as Director, Applied Studies in Government. During that time he traveled the Commonwealth, sharing his expertise as far afield as India, Papua New Guinea and Uganda. He was Executive Director (ADM) for Immigration from 1978-85. In 1985, Cal was appointed Canadian High Commissioner to Trinidad and Tobago. Cal retired upon his return, but his public service continued. He chaired the Minister's Taskforce on Sport which published the report Sport - The Way Ahead in 1992 and was Commissioner, Core Sport Study 1993-94. In 1999 he was a member of the Treasury Board President's Task Force on the Participation of Visible Minorities in the Federal Public Service. Cal also conducted an investigation into allegations of discrimination involving Canada's Mens National Basketball team. Cal was awarded an honourary LLB from King's College, Dalhousie University where he also served on the Board of Governors. He received the Centennial Medal in 1967. HAISMAN, Daniel Born October 27, 1959 Died July 8, 2007 Aloha! As previously published, it is with great sorrow that the Haisman family announces the death of Daniel Haisman at the young age of 47. Affectionately known as “Danny“ to his friends and family. Beloved husband of Maria. Cherished father of Dylan, Saskatoon and Step-father of Mandy, Maui and Radley, Edmonton. He is also survived by his loving mother Mary and father Jim Haisman, sister Maureen Beauregard and her Husband Michael, brother Rob and his wife Vicki, all of Sarnia, and brother David and his partner Christine, Woodstock. Ever doting, Danny was a loving uncle to Sarah, Ryan, Katie, Kristen and Shaun. Danny was born into this life on October 27, 1959 as Martin Daniel Cavanaugh and lovingly adopted by Jim Haisman who raised him as his very own. Danny attended Sacred Heart School and St. Patrick's High School where he made lifelong friends he spoke of often and loved very much. As a self styled Chef, Danny was famous for serving his friends and family with delicious food in great abundance. For the last 15 years Danny lived in Maui, which he called paradise, and enjoyed a very successful career in real estate. He loved the warm Pacific breeze, swaying palm trees, and Hawaiian sunshine. We loved his gift boxes at Christmas of macadamia nuts, Kona coffee, and sweet Hawaiian treats. At the time of his death, Danny was fighting multiple health problems, which finally took his life. He joked and laughed easily, even while struggling to survive. His youthful, humorous spirit will live forever. We will always remember his sneaky grin, loving heart, and happy soul. Danny has left us and gone to Heaven to be with God in eternal life. We look forward to being reunited with Danny someday. In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place. REED, Clarence Leslie February 20, 1916 - July 29, 2007 Clarence Leslie Reed of Calgary, passed away on Sunday, July 29, 2007 at the age of 91 years. Clarence's mom and dad moved to a farm outside of Strathmore, Alberta in 1919 and from there they relocated to Carbon, Alberta in 1931. Clarence was active in sports, especially softball and hockey and he also loved to dance. It was while he was in Carbon that he met his sweetheart, Ellen. They married on July 15, 1941, while he was on embarkation leave from the army. Clarence then served overseas during World War II and when he returned they moved to Nanaimo, B.C. where his two daughters Brenda and Ilene were born. In 1950, work was more plentiful in Calgary so they moved back to Alberta and Clarence pursued his career as a plasterer, then as a custodian with the Calgary School Board until he retired at age sixty. Clarence had a very active social life. He loved dancing, fishing, camping, hiking, gardening and visiting with friends, family and neighbours. He was a humble and loving husband, father and grandfather, content with his life. He will be remembered with smiles and kind thoughts by all who knew and loved him. Clarence is survived by his daughters and son-in-law, Brenda Reed and Ilene and Doral Douglas; four grandchildren, Cheri, Wayde, Ben and Jodi; and five great-grandchildren, Jasmine, Jesse, Jack, Brooklyn and Isabelle; and by his sister Rosalie Rand. He is predeceased by his wife Ellen in November of 1999.
