O'REILLY, Anthony John 1942 - 2007 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Tony O'Reilly who died peacefully at home on July 29, 2007 with his loving wife Beverly at his side. Tony was born in Dublin, Ireland where he was apprenticed to the printing trade at the age of 14. He immigrated to Canada in 1967 and after working as a printer for the Winnipeg Free Press and RL Crain in Ottawa began selling cars. Tony never lost his love of Ireland, but was a fiercely proud Canadian as well. He had a rich life full of friends, music, lively conversations, and Guinness. He is at rest after fighting valiantly against cancer for the last year of his life. His infectious smile and generous spirit will be missed by all who knew him. Tony was predeceased by his father, John, his mother, Catherine and his brothers-in-law, Paddy, Billy, Mike and Murray. He will be lovingly remembered by his sisters Bridie, Maureen and Rita, his nieces Sandra (John) and Janet (Ken), their children and his nephew John. His god-children Matthew and Emma, his much loved mother-in-law Kay, sisters-in-law Marianne and Joan, and Karen and Ryan will also miss him dearly. Tony loved and was loved; what more can a man ask from life. The family wishes to thank the nurses and doctors from Palliative Care Outreach Program, At-Home Hospice and Carefor for the compassionate care they provided. Friends and family are invited to attend a funeral service at the Westboro Chapel of Tubman Funeral Homes, 403 Richmond Rd (at Roosevelt Ave) on Thursday August 2nd at 1:00 p.m. A reception will follow at Tony and Bev's home. ENGLEHART, Linda Huu Thi Thanh, beloved wife of Denny Englehart, of Calgary, passed away tragically, doing what she loved, Kayaking on the Kicking Horse in Golden, BC on Sunday, July 29, 2007 at the age of 27 years. Linda was full of life, courageous, and always thought of others before herself. She will be greatly missed. EDMUNDS, David Workman (LCol Ret'd) David Edmunds died Sunday, July 29, 2007 at the age of 80. He will be deeply missed by Margaret, his wife of 57 years, daughters Jane Barken (late Morton) and Susan Edmunds Mott (Gordon), grandchildren Adam (Fiona), Alec (Janet), Emma (Tiff), Molly, Rachel, Troy and Ian and great-grandchildren Max and Lucy. He is survived by his brothers Roger (Fay) and Hugh (Ann), sister-in-law Ann Rimmer and nieces and nephews. Born in Saskatoon, son of Mabel and Harry Edmunds, David graduated from the University of Saskatchewan. He joined the Armed Forces and during the course of his distinguished career in the Royal Canadian Corps of Signals he served across Canada including Alert and internationally in Germany, Washington and Egypt. Following retirement, David discovered cottage life and took great pride in the building projects associated with it. He was a member of the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association (AFCEA) and edited the newsletter. As a partner in his consulting firm, Business Information Processors, David successfully employed his programming skills. He enjoyed performing in little theatre, attending plays and symphonies, was an avid cross country skier and kayaker, and was always interested in linguistic, mathematical and scientific challenges. Along with his keen sense of duty and decency, he will be remembered for his dedication to his 10BX exercise routine and his penchant for horrible puns. Né à Saint-Paul-de-Kent le 26 octobre 1920, il était fils de feu Joseph "Jos" LeBlanc et de feu Marie-Louise Richard. Il laisse dans le deuil son épouse, Edmée (née Cormier), avec qui il était marié pendant 56 ans; cinq enfants: Monique (Ronald Collette) de Moncton, Jean-Guy (Pauline Jones) de Fredericton, Charlotte (Donald Watts) de Montréal, Richard (Barbara Schofield) de Phoenix, Arizona et Pierrette (Jacques Gagnon) d’Ottawa; ses petits-enfants: Brigitte Collette (Michel Pelletier), Rachel LeBlanc (John Weatherhead), Mark LeBlanc, Jessica et Kelsey Watts, Natasha, Sébastien (Michelle), Gidget et Chelsea LeBlanc, Christian et Daniel Gagnon et trois arrière-petites-filles: Camille Pelletier, Hailey et Haven LeBlanc. Issu d’une famille nombreuse, il comptait toujours parmi les siens ses frères et soeurs: Maria (feu Lewis LeBlanc) de Bouctouche, Alfred (Maria Cormier) de Dieppe, Thérèse (Dismas Poirier) de Waltham, Mass., Yvonne (feu Gérald Johnson), Jeannine (Livain Daigle) et Léo-Paul (Antoinette Collette), tous de Gardner, Mass.; son beau-frère, Clarence Gautreau (feu Dorilla) de Moncton; sa belle-soeur, Claudette LeBlanc (feu Oscar) de Gardner, ainsi que plusieurs nièces et neveux. Ses frères et soeurs: Émerie, Oscar, Rhéal, Dorilla, Florence et Mai, l’ont précédé dans la tombe. M. LeBlanc a surtout oeuvré dans les chantiers de bois et il était cheminot pour le CN. À sa retraite, il aimait passer beaucoup de temps à se promener dans la nature, surtout à ramasser des bleuets et des pommes de pré. BROADHURST, Calder (Cal) Watson May 9, 1948 - July 28, 2007 Calder (Cal) Watson Broadhurst of Alder Flats, AB passed away suddenly on Saturday, July 28, 2007. Cal was born on Mother's Day, May 9, 1948 in Calgary, AB. He attended Viscount Bennett High School where his love of football and later rugby took root. Cal was an active member of the U of C Dinos Football Alumni until a few years ago. He worked as a millwright for thirty years in Alberta and overseas. Cal loved life and could often be found dancing up a storm at the Ranchman's after a performance with the Gunfighters Stunt Club. He participated in many rodeos, from Williams Lake to the Calgary Stampede, in the wild horse race event. His niece and nephew are proud to have two of his championship belt buckles. He finally realized his dream when he purchased his "horse ranch" south of Alder Flats, AB. Cal would spend his days fencing and working with and building up his herd, and enjoyed blacksmithing. Cal is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Leigh and Dianne Broadhurst, of Water Valley, AB; his niece Kari; and his nephew Kel, of Cochrane. He is also survived by his aunt Betty Mitchell, of Kelowna, BC; five cousins Steve Nagy, and family, Brenda Spilak and family, of Kelowna, Daryl Cheney and family of Vancouver, BC, Glen Aikenhead and family, of Saskatoon, SK, and Ian Aikenhead and family of Vancouver, BC; as well as many special friends. Cal was predeceased by his father Thomas in 1969 and his mother Muriel in 2006. A Memorial Service will be held at the Cochrane Ranchehouse (101 Ranchehouse Road) on Thursday, August 2, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. Be comfortable, dress Western or casual. OBITUARY MAURICE S. SHAMY 1917-2007 Died peacefully in his ninety-first year on July 29 at the Jewish General Hospital surrounded by his loving family and special friends. Beloved husband of 49 years to the late Madeline Joseph. Devoted and proud father to Barbara, Nicholas (Sanaa), April (Mark) and the late Carl. Special Grandpa to Grace, Eric, Ashley, Justin, Trevor and Great-Jiddo to Khalil. Dear brother and brother in-law of Lily and the late Louis Yared, the late Georgette and Antoine Francis, the late Alice and Nicholas. Special uncle to Guy and Andrew Francis, Penny (Tom), Peter and Linda (Mario) Yared. He will be greatly missed by his Toledo relatives and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Adopted Grandpa to his angel Ivy and her sister Ellen. Born in Montreal and raised in a family with strong Lebanese traditions, he was passionate about his family. He was an important leader in the Montreal Lebanese community and served for the LSCA, the WLCU, the Order of St-Ignatius and St-Nicholas Church for many years. Dad was proud to have built a successful wholesale clothing business. He lived his final battle the way he lived his entire life; with courage, determination and dignity. Dad touched many lives and will always be remembered for his generosity and compassion towards others. Bernard Gerald Meldrum October 15, 1972 - July 28, 2007 It is with great sadness we announce the sudden passing of Bernie Meldrum. He leaves to mourn in his memory his daughter, Twyla Favel; along with her mother, Misty Favel and his son, Tyrone Bear-Meldrum; along with his mother, Tanya bear. He also leaves to mourn his passing his special friend, Shelley McCorrister and her family. He will be sadly missed by his two brothers and their families. His older brother, Warren Garson, along with his wife, Jennifer and their children, Devon, Victoria and Jarren. His younger brother, Jason Meldrum, along with his wife, Darcie and their children, Dorian Thomas, Thorne, Quinn, Faith, Chanelle, Starr and Kingston. Also left to mourn his sudden passing are his many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends in Fisher River and Peguis. Bernie was predeceased by his grandparents, Chlista and Roderick Garson and his foster mother, Annie Sinclair. Throughout his life, Bernie experienced the love and hospitality of many families. STANLEY, Conchil Norton (Pete) Lieutenant Colonel (retired) April 18, 1920 - July 26, 2007 Born and raised in Montreal, Conchil Norton permanently adopted the nickname of Pete as soon as he could. Pete was an engineering student at McGill, boxing in his spare time, when he enrolled in the Canadian Officer's Training Corps in 1939. The next year he joined the R.C.A.F. and began a long distinguished military career. Pete served in Europe, Africa and India during WWII, flying over 40 missions for Canada as a bomber pilot. Later he served in senior postings in Summerside, Halifax and Gander before retiring from the Armed Services in 1969. In his second career in administration at Carleton University, Pete earned the respect and affection of both students and faculty. But every year, Pete continued to walk proudly with the Veterans in the Remembrance Day Parade. He always wore his numerous medals, but was modest about his achievements beside so many brave and honoured soldiers. Pete will be remembered for his devotion to Maisie Anne, his beloved wife of 60 years; for his heart-bursting pride in his children, Joanne and Peter; for his immense love of his three grand-daughters, Kate, Jesse and Shanna; and for the joy he took in the company of Mary, the cherished partner of his last three years. His golf buddies will remember Pete for his enviable ability to hit the ball a mile. All who knew and worked with Pete will be grateful that he was part of their lives. Pete gave his country his loyalty, gave his friends his kindness, and to his family gave unending love and the fine example of always trying to do your best. WHALEN, Stanley, Andrew - In loving memory of Stanley Andrew Whalen, 78 years of Sudbury who passed away Monday, July 30th, 2007 at the Sudbury Regional Hospital - St. Joseph's Health Center. Born and raised in Sudbury he married Celina (Barnes) at Christ the King in 1948 and he was presently a parishioner at the Church. Stanley was an area general superintendent with the Regional Municipality of Sudbury retiring in 1987 with 42 years service. He had been a well known and well liked member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #76, Sudbury. He enjoyed playing cards and he was an avid golfer often playing at the Twin Stacks Golf Course in Coniston. He had a great affinity for the outdoors and enjoyed camping especially on Manitoulin Island. Stanley will be remembered as a loving and devoted father and grandfather. Beloved husband of Celina (Barnes) Whalen predeceased 1999. Loving father of Marlene (husband David Kohut) and Brent (wife Dianne) both of Sudbury. Cherished grandfather of George, Mathew, Nicholas, Jessica, Christopher, Adam, Amanda, Andrew and Alexander. Dear son of Nicholas and Maryanne (Ross) Whalen predeceased.
