OLSEN, Kathleen (nee Kearns) - died peacefully at home at age 60 on June 25th, 2007. She proved to be an inspiration and hero for many as she battled multiple myeloma for more than ten years with dignity, grace and humour. She was a beloved wife of Ron for 33 years and loving mother of son Christopher and of daughter Kirsten and her husband Istvan Mozes. Predeceased by her father Frank and brother Paul, she will be greatly missed by her mother Marion Kearns of Chatham. A treasured sister of Cliff and Mary Margaret, Marg and Werner Klaming, Patrick, Larry, Mary and Tilly Crotta, Bernie and Sue and Steve and Louisa. Dear sister-in-law of David and Carol, Howard and Michaela and Karen and Chuck Burch and daughter-in-law of Eva Olsen and the late Harry Olsen. As a dear aunt to all of her nieces and nephews in both the Kearns and Olsen clans; and a cherished friend to many, she dedicated her life to a career in nursing at St. Michael's Hospital using her RN and BScN degrees as well as her trademark kindness. She will be forever missed by all her family and friends – all of whom will remember her enthusiasm for life and her bright smile. Charles J. Surette 1917-2007 Charles Surette, 89, of Moncton, passed away following a lengthy illness at The Dr. G. L. Dumont Hospital on Friday, July 6th, 2007. Born in Sydney, NS, on December 6th 1917, he was the son of the late Maxime and Susan (Collette) Surette. Charles loved all animals, especially horses and his cat, Fluffy. His 1987 Chev was his pride and joy and he enjoyed showing it off. He is survived by his former wife, Edna Surette of Moncton; son, Richie Robert "Bobby" of Moncton, Donald (Yvette) of Dieppe; daughter, Barbara Ann Richard (Edgar) of Indian Mountain, Dian LeBlanc (Edward) of Moncton; spouse, Mary J. Fowler; step-son, Victor Fowler of Moncton; grandchildren, Dawn LeBlanc, Kenneth Lee (France), Julie (Bobby), Janice, Richard (Patrice), Eric, Eddie and Dwayne Fowler; great-grandchildren, twins Isabelle & Jolene, Evan and Isabella Hailey, Melanie and Jamie, Cody and Megan; as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Charles was predeceased by an infant son, Ricky, twin to Bobby. Special thanks to Mary Taylor and Freda Kinden for their support over the past few years. BELL, HUGH GORDON - Hugh Gordon Bell husband of Lida (Lawson) Bell of Saint John passed away Sunday July 8, 2007 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born 1919 in Empress Alberta to the late Roy Wesley and Ethel (Smith) Bell. Hugh was a WWII Veteran and served in the Air Force in England and in Newfoundland. He worked as a Truck Driver, School Bus driver and life long woodsman. He was a 55 year member of St. Martin's Lodge # 30 F & A.M. Hugh is survived by his wife of 65 years; sons, Hugh Lawson (Vickey Steeves) Bell of Dawson Settlement, NB and John David (Barbara Wallace) Bell of Sudbury, ON; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; four sisters, Rhea, Edna, Audrey and step-sister Joan. Besides his parents, Hugh was predeceased by his brother, Wesley; his sister, Lillian; and stepbrother, Charlie. Resting at the Fundy Funeral Home 230 Westmorland Rd. HENDERSON, MURIEL ROSS (MACDONALD) The death of Muriel Ross (MacDonald) Henderson, beloved wife of Arthur Henderson, of Fredericton occurred on Friday, July 6, 2007. She was born in Greenwood, Pictou County, Nova Scotia, on December 26, 1923, and was the daughter of the late Harvey and Jessie MacDonald. Muriel was a 1943 graduate of the Nova Scotia Provincial Normal School, and taught school for several years in MacLennan's Mountain and Greenwood, Pictou County before her marriage. She was a life-long Presbyterian, and was very active in Saint Andrew's Presbyterian Church. She was a past president and Life Member of Lower Kingsclear Women's Institute, and she served on the Provincial level of the New Brunswick Women's Institute. She was a member of Victor Hatheway Chapter, IODE, where she served on several committees. She was a tireless worker for the disadvantaged of society, and knit thousands of pairs of mittens and slippers, hats and scarves for children in Fredericton as well as for those in Canada's North. Her generosity knew no bounds. In addition to her husband, Arthur, she is survived by her dear children, Cheryl (David) Gordon of Guelph, Davida (Malcolm) Mackay of Halifax, Jeanne Kaye (Richard) Speight, Lloyd (Brenda) Henderson, and Tom (Cathy Scott) Henderson, all of Fredericton. She had 11 grandchildren, Brian Gordon, Cambridge, ON, Andrea Gordon-Beenhakker (Pieter Beenhakker), Guelph, Andrew Speight, Moncton, Peter Speight, Boston, Natalie Henderson, Ottawa, Alex, Suzanne and Heather Henderson, Matthew Henderson, and Jessie and Mharie Scott-Henderson, all of Fredericton. Also surviving are her brother, Leslie M. MacDonald, Stellarton, NS; and sister, C. Louise Patterson, Toronto. She was predeceased by her parents; her sister, Jeanne K. MCCANN, VINCENT ARTHUR The passing of Vincent Arthur McCann, of Douglas, NB, occurred on July 6, 2007 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Born on October 27, 1924 in Claudie Settlement, NB, he was a son of the late William and Margaret (Kirby) McCann. Vincent was a Graderman for H.S. Gill & Sons Sawmill and worked at Nashwaaksis Bowl-A-Drome. He attended St. Theresa's Catholic Church and was a Veteran of the Second World War. He is survived by one son, Mark McCann of Fredericton; two daughters, Michele Mann (Darren) of Douglas, Sandy Brewer (Heath) of Keswick Ridge, NB; six grandchildren, Sierra McCann, Danielle & Quinton Mann, Brett, Ethan & Shawn Brewer; several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he is predeceased by three brothers, Gregory, James and Joseph; one sister, Mary Burtt. Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton on Monday, July 9, 2007 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from St. Theresa's Roman Catholic Church on Tuesday, July 10, 2007 at 11 am with Father John Keoughan as celebrant. Interment will take place at St. Anthony's Cemetery, Fredericton, NB. Pallbearers will be Timmy Brewster, Jeff Dunphy, Brent Dunphy, Paul Burtt, Rodney Martin and Norman McGraw. PHILLIPS, PHYLLIS THELMA Phyllis Thelma Phillips, formerly of Plymouth Road, wife of the late Walter A. Phillips, passed away on Saturday, July 7, 2007 at the Central Carleton Nursing Home, Hartland. Born at Upper Prince William, she was a daughter of the late James Robert and Inez Martha (Briggs) Duncan. Phyllis is survived by three sons, Everett Phillips of Southampton, Reginald Phillips (Jeannette) of Southampton, and Darrell Phillips of Woodstock; two daughters-in-law, Pam Phillips of Whitby, Ontario, and Wanda Phillips of Woodstock; a step-sister, Mary McIntyre of Waterville; eight grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Phyllis was predeceased by two sons, Jim Phillips and Bill Phillips; and by two daughters, Ruby McBeth and Beatrice Phillips. Reta Jean Furlong AMHERST, NS - The death of Reta Jean Furlong, age 90, widow of Ross Furlong, of Amherst, occurred at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Center on Saturday, July 7, 2007 following a lengthy illness. Born in Shinimicas, NS, she was a daughter of the late Wilson and Edna (Johnson) Smith. A homemaker, she worked with her husband, Ross in the operation of R.W. Furlong Service Station, Amherst for 26 years. She enjoyed RVing, with family and friends. She is a member of Trinity-St. Stephens United Church, Amherst. Reta will be sadly missed by her two sons, Leon (Cathy), Moncton and Bill (Myrna), Amherst; seven grandchildren, Susan, Arnold, Nancy, Christopher, Donelda, Patrick and Michelle; 12 great grandchildren; four sisters, Shirley MacKay, Gertrude (Ken) Smith, Bernice and Audrey Nix; a brother, Ansel (Evelyn). She was predeceased by her husband, Ross in 2005; brothers, Raymond, Hilton and Leon; and sisters, Gwen, Flo and Leona.
