After a long illness, Betty Cameron of New Liskeard died October 7, 2004 at the Temiskaming Hospital. She was born in Aberdeen, Scotland, on October 25, 1925 to David and Mary Ann Wilson. Educated in Aberdeen, she was a war bride who moved to Canada in 1945. Mrs. Cameron was a nurse and a member of the Catholic Women’s League at Our Mother of Perpetual Help Church. Predeceased by her husbands Patrick Whalen and Colin Cameron, she is survived by her children Gerald, Terry, David, Sandra, Peter, Danny, Brent and Scott; 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. The funeral was arranged by Perrin Funeral Chapel in New Liskeard and was held at Our Mother Of Perpetual Help Church. Fathers John Lemire and M.J. Scully officiated with a Temiskaming Hospital nurse honour guard and a Catholic Women’s League honour guard. Her sons were the pallbearers. Relatives and friends attending the service from out of town came from Kingston, Toronto, Stoney Creek and Ottawa. Interment is at the New Liskeard Catholic Cemetery.

Redge Regimbal died October 9, 2004 at his home in Cobalt at the age of 90. He was born in Sudbury on May 19, 1914 to Marie Ducharme and Joseph Hector Regimbal. Mr. Regimbal was raised in Sudbury and Haileybury. He joined Morissette Diamond Drilling in 1937 and married Ada Lajeunesse on April 19, 1941. Mr. Regimbal worked at Morissette’s for 42 years beginning as a Diamond Drill helper, runner, surface foreman and ending his career as a fieldman for the company, retiring in May 1979. After his retirement, he and his wife, Ada, settled in their home on 445 Main Street in Haileybury, later moving to Cobalt where he and his wife lived at 17 Buffalo Road in West Cobalt. Mr. Regimbal enjoyed fishing, boating and camping at Bucke Park in his retirement years. He was predeceased by his wife Ada, sisters Betty and Onita and brothers Denis (Connie) and Donald. Mr. Regimbal is survived by his son Richard (wife Suzanne) and children Chad and Duane; daughter Suzanne (husband Larry) and children Allison, Karen and David; son Maurice (wife Bonnie) and children Matthew, Kimberly, Darryl and Kyle; daughter Mary (husband Alton) and children Jennifer and Jessica; son Denis (wife Loretta) and children Sherri-Ann; four great-grandchildren, Camille, Karina, Jake and Jamie-Ada; sisters Cecile, Rejane and Dolores and their families. The funeral was arranged by Buffam Léveillé Funeral Home in Haileybury. The funeral mass was held at St. Patrick’s Church, Cobalt with Father John Lemire officiating. Pallbearers were grandsons Chad, Duane, Matthew, Darryl and Kyle Regimbal and David Byles. Interment was at the Mileage 104 Roman Catholic Cemetery in Cobalt on October 13. Relatives and friends attending the service from out of town came from Elliott Lake, Orangeville, Dallas (Texas), Wasaga Beach, Ottawa, Toronto, Barrie, Rouyn-Noranda, and Kirkland Lake. Donations in Memory of Mr. Regimbal may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Diabetes Association. The family would like to thank Dr. Sears and all the staff at Temiskaming Hospital for his previous and most recent stay in ICU. “Thank you for your care and compassion. The family would also like to thank the many friends and relatives who have helped Redge these last few years. Your thoughtfulness and kindness in this time of need is very much appreciated.”

Lance Anthony McAnaul died suddenly on the evening of October 6, 2004 in his forty-second year. Mr. McAnaul is survived by his best friend and loving companion Linda and stepchildren Christopher (Ronda), Sarah (Kevin), Jan (Anick), Jeremy and Bridget Lacko; sadly missed by his parents Lorne and Glenda (Browne) McAnaul; grandparents George and Leona (Morin) McAnaul; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, stepgrandchildren, friends and coworkers from Ontera where he had worked for the past four years. Mr. McAnaul was born in Haileybury on October 7, 1962. He will always be remembered for his love of the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed spending time at his new hobby in his woodworking shop. In his younger years he loved to play hockey and was a star defenseman for the Haileybury 54’s. Mr. McAnaul was always sensitive to the needs of others and was always willing to help out in time of need. He always put the needs of others first. He especially loved spending time with his family, friends and his faithful dog Brutus. The funeral was arranged by Buffam Léveillé Funeral Home in Haileybury with the service held on October 12 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Cobalt. Father John Lemire officiated with interment at St. Theresa Cemetery in Cobalt. Cremation has occurred. A luncheon was served by the Catholic Women’s League at the Golden Age Club in Cobalt. Friends and family from as far away as the state of Georgia attended the funeral. Donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be gratefully appreciated by the family.

Hugh Alfred Anderson died peacefully at the North Bay General Hospital on October 17, 2004 at the age of 74. Mr. Anderson is survived by his children Hugh (Monica) of Cincinnati, Bruce of North Bay, Fraser of Calgary, Sharon (Bruce Coughlin) of Callander and Glen (Jennifer) of Cookstown; is sadly missed by ten grandchildren; and sister Helen Ferguson of Dryden. Mr. Anderson was predeceased by his parents Adolph and Isabella, brothers Jim, Jack and Charles. Mr. Anderson was a long time resident of North Bay and New Liskeard and was active in both communities. He was involved in coaching many sports as well as being an active member of the theater guild. He was a long time employee in the advertising departments of both the North Bay Nugget and the Temiskaming Speaker. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held in the Martyn Funeral Home chapel in North Bay on Wednesday, October 20 at 10 a.m. Interment of ashes will follow in the New Liskeard Cemetery at 2 p.m. If desired, donations to the Cancer Society or the Heart and Stroke Foundation will be gratefully acknowledged by the family.

Stanley Raymond Quast died suddenly on October 13, 2004 at the age of 59. Mr. Quast is sadly missed and loved by his wife Pat Quast; mother Luella Schruder (née Quast); mother-in-law Edith Field; children Adam (Andrea), Angie (Shane), Jeff (Barb) and Kirk (Cheryl); grandchildren Maureen, Naomi, Shawn-Douglas, Shayla, Hailey and Ethan; brother-in-law Fred (Linda) Field; special buddy Sampson; siblings Claire (Jane) Lemke of Egansville, Ontario, Wayne Lemke and Dean Lemke of Campbell River, British Columbia, Terry (Wendy) Allems of Oshawa, Kathy (Brian) Ehinger of Courtney, B.C., and Jim (Irene) Schruder of Egansville; the Miller family (Rose, Diane, Sandra, Linda, Betty, Cindy, godson Michael), and many nephews and nieces. Mr. Quast was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather who will be remembered for his sense of humour, outgoing personality and the unforgettable way he touched the lives of everyone he met. Mr. Quast spent most of his years working as an ambulance and air ambulance attendant. Before that he worked in the bush with his grandfather. He also drove truck, delivering explosives on the ice roads of Lake Temagami, and also drove a delivery truck for a mining equipment supplier in Kirkland Lake. He worked extensively with Dr. Mallett, assisting in the coroner’s department. He was currently employed at Wabi Development Corporation and also enjoyed working at the store that he and his wife Pat owned, Memory Lane Antiques and Gifts. The funeral was arranged by McDonald Funeral Home in Englehart with the service conducted October 19 at the Englehart Community Hall.

Northview Nursing Home resident William Herman Haase died October 24, 2004 in Englehart. He was born in Charlton on July 16, 1920 to Abe and Jean Haase. Mr. Haase lived a full life with many experiences. In his younger years he worked at Avro as a tool and die maker on the Avro Arrow. He was employed by American Motors for years and after moving to Northern Ontario retired in 1972. Mr. Haase served on the Charlton town council and took care of water treatment, the cemetery and garbage as well as public works programs. A gentle man, Mr. Haase was known for his sense of humour and his love of nature and gardening. Mr. Haase is survived by his children Wayne Haase of Edmonton, Brad Haase of Kenora, Steve Haase of Denmark, Valerie Crocker of Lethbridge, Carol Faulkner of Grande Prairie, Alberta; 2 sisters, 4 brothers, 14 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his grandson Kelly Crocker on February 10, 1992 and his wife Marion (Hueston) Haase on May 5, 2002. The funeral was arranged by McDonald Funeral Home in Englehart where the service was conducted by Pastor Peter Ruel on October 27. Pallbearers were Chris Wylie, Dwayne Crocker, Mike Haase, Bryan Haase, Ivan Brownlee and Bill De Vries. Burial is at the Charlton Cemetery. Relatives and friends attending the service from out of town came from Grande Prairie, Edmonton, Lethbridge, Kenora, Brampton, Whitby, Coburg and Trenton. Albert Joseph “Ab” Bastien of Elk Lake died October 31, 2004 at the Englehart and District Hospital. He was born in Elk Lake on May 30, 1923. Mr. Bastien is survived by his children Richard (wife Luz) of Vancouver, Judy (husband John Campbell) of Charlton and David (partner Richard) of Hamilton; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife Joan (Bickell) and daughter Debbie. The funeral is arranged by McDonald Funeral Home with the service to be conducted November 6 at Nativity Parish in Elk Lake by Lionel Venne. The time is yet to be confirmed. Cremation with burial at Elk Lake Public Cemetery to follow. In memory contributions to the Elk Lake Museum or a charity of choice would be appreciated by the family.

Bruce Despres died suddenly at his home on Thursday, November 11, 2004 at the age of 45. Mr. Despres was born in Kirkland Lake on March 2, 1959 and was educated in New Liskeard. He is survived by his loving parents Thomas and Barbara Despres; his sister Patricia Lauder; and nephew Jim Lauder. After a short illness, Kathleen Connelly of New Liskeard died November 8, 2004 at the Temiskaming Hospital. She was born May 24, 1918 to Claude and Pearl Pelletier in North Cobalt. Educated in Cobalt, she married Arnold Connelly in Kirkland Lake and moved to this area in 1944. Mrs. Connelly was a loving wife and mother who loved to cook, knitt, sew, and she enjoyed her children and grandchildren. She was also a member of St. Paul’s United Church in New Liskeard. Mrs. Connelly is survived by her brother Claude Pelletier (Beverly), daughters Ruth Watson (Norm), Norma Josefowich (Ted), Barbara Jacks (Bruce) and Pat Hartzke (Ed); sons Bob Connelly (Helen), Tom Connelly and Doug Connelly; 17 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband on January 10, 1963 in New Liskeard and by her sisters Bertha, Mildred and Phyllis. The funeral was arranged by Perrin Funeral Chapel in New Liskeard where the service was conducted by Reverend Kitty Miller. Pallbearers were grandsons Peter Connelly, Brent Connelly, David Josefowich, Rick Watson, Dan Watson, Mark Watson and Brian Connelly (honourary pallbearer). A wonderful eulogy was delivered by her grandson Shane Hartzke. Burial has taken place. Relatives and friends attending the funeral from out of town came from Kingston, Cambridge, North Bay and Kirkland Lake.

Sarah Davidson Alberta of RR#2, Kenabeek, Cane Township, died November 6, 2004 at the Temiskaming Hospital. She was born in Kilmarnock, Scotland, on January 23, 1911 to Thomas and Mary Skinner. Educated in southern Ontario, she married Edward Alberta in Elk Lake on August 31, 1933, moving to Northern Ontario from Markdale in the 1930s. Mrs. Alberta raised eight children, doing all the sewing for them plus the neighbours. She had a green thumb and grew a great garden with beautiful flowers and numerous other things. She was also a member of the Salvation Army. Mrs. Alberta was predeceased by her husband Edward on February 6, 1999 in North Bay; parents Tom and Mary Skinner; daughters Fay Faulkner and Rosellen Bailey; son Leo Alberta; daughter-in-law Carolyn Alberta; sons-in-law Alfred Bailey and William Faulkner Sr.; sisters Carrie Lafrenier and Rosellen Skinner; brothers Tom Skinner, Bob Skinner, John Skinner, Llewellyn Skinner, Harry Skinner, Evison Skinner and Eldie Skinner; and by four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She is survived by her daughters Iris Vineyard (Roy) of California, Maude Faulkner (Bob) of North Bay, Sharon Rozell (Alex) of Englehart; sons Eldon Alberta (Georgette) of Englehart and Kenneth Alberta (Margaret) of Kenabeek; 23 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren. The funeral was arranged by Perrin Funeral Chapel in New Liskeard with the service conducted by Captain N. Fillier. Pallbearers were grandchildren Steve Alberta, Gordon Faulkner, Rob Faulkner, Laura Aitchison, Joe Short and Daryl Alberta. Honourary pallbearer was Les Downes. Burial is at the Rosegrove Cemetery in Kenabeek. The eulogy was delivered by Claire Williams and the lunch was held at the Kenabeek Community Centre. Relatives and friends from out of town attending the service came from Diamond Bar, California, Lethbridge, Alberta, Gatineau, Quebec, Sault Ste. Marie, Kamloops, British Columbia, Sudbury, Timmins, North Bay, Corbeil, Brantford, Elk Lake and the surrounding area.

The family announces with sorrow the death of Mrs. Aliette Kitts at Temiskaming Hospital, New Liskeard, Monday, November 22, 2004 in her seventy-ninth year. Surrounded by her family, mom went to be with her Lord. She moved as a child to Temagami with her family in 1934, where she lived for the past 70 years. Mrs. Kitts is predeceased by her parents Osias and Hermine Charette; brother Dan Charette and his wife May; grandson Joey Kitts; and brothers-in-law Len Hruda, Gerry Kitts, Stuart Little, Roy Kitts and Armand Lavigne. Beloved wife of 57 years of Jim and loving mother of Bill (and Billie) of Temagami, Ron (and Cecile) of Winnipeg and Mike (and Lynn) of South Porcupine. Lovingly remembered by her grandchildren Kim Krech (and Jim) of Temagami, Corry Staples (and Jeff) of Callander, Willie Kitts (and Ashley) and Lindsay Kitts of South Porcupine, Rachelle and Ronda Krech of Temagami and special gramma to Sara Laronde of Temagami. Also great nanny to Tyler, Dylan, Tori, Jake, Braedon, James and Caitlyn. Also left to mourn are her sisters Colette Lavigne of Sudbury, and Pauline Hruda of Winnipeg, brother-in-law Bobby Kitts (and Alice) of Moncton and sisters-in-law Gertie Kitts of Sudbury, Veronica Little and Gloria Kitts of Sault Ste. Marie. The Kitts Family will welcome friends at the St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church in Temagami on Wednesday, November 24 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. The funeral mass is on Thursday, November 25 at 11 a.m. with Father Trevor Scarfone officiating. Interment will follow at the Whispering Pine Cemetery Temagami. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Buffam Léveillé Funeral Home in Haileybury (705-672-3122). Allan James 'A.J.' Mott died suddenly on November 20, 2004 in his seventieth year. Mr. Mott is survived by his wife Donna (née Currence) and children Debbie, Vicky (Tom) and Paul (Heather), grandchildren Matthew (Sarah), Adam, Bobby and sister Mary Nichol. He was predeceased by his parents Nina and James Mott, brothers Bob and Arthur. A gathering will be held for family and friends at a later date. Carol Phillips died suddenly on November 20, 2004 at the Laurentian Hospital in Sudbury. She was 63. Mrs. Phillips is survived by her husband of over 40 years, John; daughter Lisa McCormick (Doug Perkins) and son Lee Phillips (Brenda Christie); grandchildren Autumn McCormick, Jessica Phillips, Daylan Perkins and Scottie Allen; mother Minnie Larocque; brothers Ron Larocque, Rick Larocque (wife Elaine), Paul Larocque (wife Eva) and sisters Shirley Cummings (husband Bruce), Joan Woods (husband Manson) and Deborah Dekkers (husband John). She was predeceased by her father Victor Larocque and brothers Larry and Jimmy. The funeral was arranged by Low and Low Funeral Home in Port Perry where the service will be held in the chapel on November 26 at 11 a.m. Lunch to follow the services. Theodore 'Ted' David Brown The death occurred after a short illness at Sudbury General Hospital on Wednesday, November 17, 2004 of Mr. Theodore “Ted” David Brown at the age of 78 years. Born at North Cobalt to the late Waldo and the late Christina Brown. He was predeceased by his wife Lois (nee Ross) in 1982; brothers Lloyd, Mervin, Norris; and by his sister Bessy Richard. Mr. Brown is survived by his loving children Tracey (and his wife Roseanne) and Linda (and her husband Steve). Also left to mourn are his grandchildren Tina, David, Mathew, Cory, Analisa and Shawn; great-grandson Rily; sisters Margaret McChesney, Carrie Birtch, Marilyn (Dave) Buchanen; and brothers Ed (Erica) Brown and Bob (Theresa) Brown. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Buffam Léveillé Funeral Home with a funeral service held on Saturday, November 20, 2004 at 2 p.m. with Reverend Kitty Miller officiating. Interment followed at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Haileybury, Ontario. Memorial contributions to the Heart and Stroke Foundation will be gratefully acknowledged. Relatives and friends attended the service from St Catherines, Burlington, Barrie, North Bay and the Tri Town area. Ted had been a sailor in the Merchant Marines. He was a member of the Prospectors’ Association and a lifetime member of the OHA. Ted’s greatest passion was his children, grandchildren and great-grandson. He was an avid horseman and could always be found at a nearby racetrack. Although Ted is no longer with us, he will sadly missed by his family.

Patrick (Paddy) Poulin died at his home in Englehart on November 30, 2004. He had been ill with cancer for a year. Mr. Poulin was born in Cobalt on March 18, 1921 to Victor and Mary-Ellen Poulin and received his education in Englehart. On June 17, 1956 he married his wife Bernice in St. Thomas. Mr. Poulin worked for Unifin Keeprite as a maintenance man for 30 years. He was also a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 104 in Englehart. He was a dedicated husband and beloved father and grandfather. He always had a smile and a little joke for everyone. Mr. Poulin is survived by his wife Bernice and children Karen (husband Greg), Judy (husband Barry), Patsy (husband Don), Patrick (wife Linda) and Nancy (husband Brad); grandchildren Charlene, Alana, B.J. (girlfriend Dawn), Jewel, Donald, Dwayne, Michelle, Melissa, Kristin, Dillon, Courtney-Anne and Brooke; sister-in-law Tilly; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Victor and Mary-Ellen, brothers Albert, Victor, Larry and Joe and sisters Patricia and Rita. The funeral was arranged by McDonald Funeral Home in Englehart where the service was conducted December 4 by Peter Dahlin. Pallbearers were Patrick Poulin, B.J. She was born in Haileybury on July 14, 1934 to the late Malcolm and Muriel Crooks. Mrs. Davidson is survived by her loving husband Donald Davidson whom she married on February 14, 1953. She is sadly missed by her children Virginia (and her husband Ian) Weston, Bruce Davidson and David (and his wife Debbie) Davidson. Also left to mourn are her grandchildren Scott, Shannon, Darcy, and Matthew; and her great-grandson Logan. The Davidson family received friends at the Buffam Leveille Funeral Home in Haileybury where the service was held November 12, 2004. Pastor Fred Knutson officiated. The family announces with sorrow the death of Mrs. Grace Walker on Saturday evening, December 18th, 2004 peacefully at her home in Porcupine, after a battle with pancreatic cancer. She is survived by her husband of 47 years Ron, and sons Wade at home and Blair of Woodbridge. She is also survived by a sister Mary-Belle, a twin sister Murdean both of Bancroft and a brother Ronald (Eva) of Peterborough. Grace was predeceased by a sister Evelyn, brothers Leonard and Johnson. She is predeceased by her parents Dan and Caroline MacLeod and will be sadly missed by numerous nephews and nieces, and the ladies from the Tuesday morning Bible Study. Grace will be remembered most for her persistent faith in Christ, her serving nature, her love of gardening, picking and preserving wild berries. She was a loving mother and wife and dedicated her life to attending to her family’s needs. Grace was born and raised in Kinloss Township in southwestern Ontario and moved from Toronto after completing Bible College to Matheson in the 1950s. She settled in Porcupine in the 1960s with her family shortly after her husband Ron accepted a position with the then Texas Gulf Sulphur Mine. Remembrances made to The Peoples Gospel Hour or The Gideons, through the funeral home, will be gratefully acknowledged. A Funeral Service to celebrate her life will be held in the Stinson Funeral Home chapel at 100 Bruce Ave., South Porcupine on Wednesday December 22, 2004 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Bill Jones officiating. Interment will follow at Whitney Cemetery.

Ida Birnie died at the Temiskaming Lodge on December 13, 2004 of at the age of 80. She was born in Cobalt on January 18, 1924 to the late Jack Frackleton and Eleanor Eldred. She was a Veteran of World War II and a resident of the Temiskaming Lodge. She will be remembered as a loving mother, wife and granny. Mrs. Birnie was the wife of the late George Ernest Birnie whom she married on April 22, 1946 at St. James Anglican Church Cobalt. She was predeceased by her siblings Connie White and Raymond Frackleton. Left to mourn are her loving children Wayne (and Louise) Birnie and Doreen (and Marcel) Dumoulin; four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; siblings Winnie Kelly, Walter Frackleton and Jack Frackleton. The funeral service was held at St. Paul’s Anglican Church in Haileybury on December 15 with Reverend Linda White officiating. Family and friends attending the service came from North Bay, St. Catharines, Hamilton, Orillia, Huntsville and Toronto. Raoul 'Roy' Tremblay died on December 16, 2004 at Extendicare Nursing Home in Haileybury at the age of 79. Born in Sturgeon Falls, he had worked for the Campbell Soup Company of Canada in Toronto and retired in 1986 after 35 years of service. He then moved to Haileybury to enjoy his retirement. In his younger years he was an avid golfer and curler. He attended many Briers with his brother Roger. He also coached hockey in Toronto. Mr. Tremblay was an associate member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 54 in Haileybury. Mr. Tremblay was predeceased by his parents Damase Tremblay and Olivina Lafleur; and by his siblings Ernie, Armand, Lou and Corinne. He is survived by his loving children Paul (and Angela) of Oshawa, Mark Tremblay of Vancouver, B.C., and Christine (and Yvon) Desjardins of New Liskeard; grandchildren Jacquie Tremblay of Toronto, Karl, Erik and Adam Tremblay of Oshawa and Stephanie and Joël Desjardins of New Liskeard; his siblings Yvette, Nin and Rita all of Haileybury, Cécile of North Bay, Denise and Gertie of Sturgeon Falls and Roger of North Bay. The funeral service was held at the Buffam Léveillé Funeral Home in Haileybury on December 20 with Father Pat Lafleur officiating. Spring interment will take place at the Haileybury Catholic Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers were Bryan Lafleur, Hank Lafleur, Ray Lafleur, Donald Lafleur, Skip Marietti, Roger Tremblay and George Pascoe. Andrew Patrick O’Shea died suddenly at the age of 66 on December 17, 2004. Born at Clifden, Ireland on December 13, 1938 to the late John O’Shea and Eileen Cooling, Mr. O’Shea came to Canada in February of 1967 and had worked as a Hospitality Manager at the Westin Harbour Castle in Toronto until his retirement. In May of 2004, Mr. O’Shea moved to Haileybury. He was dedicated to the Canadian Blood Services and donated over 100 units. He loved coffee, biking, horse racing, gardening and music. He also loved connecting with everyone he met. Mr. O’Shea is survived by his partner Vera O’Shea; daughters Mairead (Jeff Laferriere), Siobhan (Ron Schiavone) and Niamh (Brad Minogue); grandchildren Sean, Cavan, Kaylin, Corbin, Shea, Myranda and Connor; and his sister Myra (Chris Wall). The funeral service was held at the Buffam Léveillé Funeral Home in Haileybury on December 21 with Father John Lemire officiating. Family and friends attending the service came from Ireland, Toronto, Orillia and North Bay. Audrey Leona Edna Turner, New Liskeard resident Audrey Leona Edna Turner died at the Temiskaming Hospital on March 1, 2006. She was born at the Red Cross Hospital in New Liskeard on January 25, 1913. Adopted at birth by John Davis and his wife Elizabeth Jelly, she received her education in New Liskeard and married Archibald (Archie) Turner in New Liskeard on November 11, 1938. Mrs. Turner was a passionate bridge player. A founding member of the South Temiskaming Duplicate Bridge Club, she was just two points short of being a Life Master and was still playing in her 90s. She was also a member of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in New Liskeard and the Eastern Star. Mrs. Turner was predeceased by her husband on September 18, 1960; sons John (1991) and Peter Turner (1985). She is survived by her daughters Linda Taylor (Bruce) of Harris Township, Rhona Nesbitt (George) of Metcalfe, 10 granddaughters and seven great-grandchildren. At the request of Mrs. Turner, there was no visitation or funeral and cremation has occurred. A family memorial and interment will take place at a later date.

Marilyn (Mary) Beach After a one-and-a-half year battle with cancer, Marilyn (Mary) Beach of RR1 Belle Vallee died at the Temiskaming Hospital on April 7, 2006. She was born in Uno Park on October 23, 1938 to Ken and Delia Leverre. Educated at Uno Park Public School, she married Jack Beach in New Liskeard on March 26, 1955. Mrs. Beach was a farmer and housewife who lived in Brethour Township for 50 years. She loved gardening and preserving, picking berries, doing her flower beds, knitting and family gatherings. She was also a member of the Brethour Friendship Club. Mrs. Beach was predeceased by her husband Jack on January 28, 2006, her parents Ken and Delia Leverre, one brother and two sisters. She is survived by her son Murray Beach, daughters Debbie Alexander, Jennie Alexander, Louise Williams and Heather Matt; 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. The funeral was arranged by Perrin Funeral Chapel in New Liskeard with the service conducted by Reverend Kitty Miller. Cremation has taken place with the burial to follow in Hanbury Cemetery in Harley. Relatives and friends attending the service from out of town came from Toronto, Mississauga, Pickering, Sudbury, Barrie and Whitby.

Christina Lee Goulet died suddenly at her home in Kenabeek on June 22, 2006 at the age of 28. She is survived by her loving parents Dennis and Donna Goulet of Kenabeek; children Jamie Lynn, Skylee and Summer Marie; her brother Dennis Jr.; and her grandmother Lillian Goulet. The funeral service was held at the Buffam Leveille Funeral Home in Haileybury on June 26. Father John Lemire officiated. Interment followed at Rosegrove Cemetery in Kenabeek. The funeral service for Hearst resident Edgar Lamontagne of the Foyer des pionniers Nursing Home was held there Nov. 2, 2006. He died Oct. 29 at age 78 following a lengthy bout with cancer. Born Jan. 26, 1928 in Notre-Dame-de-Buckland, Quebec, he came to the area around 1950. He worked for Newaygo Timber as a slasher operator until 1984 and then for various bush operation jobbers. Predeceased by his parents, sisters and brothers, and his daughter Martine Fournier of Hearst this past August, he leaves his wife Thérèse (née Landry) Lamontagne, daughters Nicole Lamontagne, Céline (Aurèle Lavigne) Lamontagne, and sons Normand and Michel Lamontagne, all of Hearst. Also surviving are his sisters Maria Pouliot of St-Damien, Qué., Cécile Lamontagne of Montréal, Béatrice (Clément Breton) of Montréal, Rose-Marie Lamontagne of MontMagny, Qué, Lorraine (Jules Morissette) of Massachusetts, Jeannine Lamontagne of Loretteville, Qué., and Francine Lamontagne of Quebec City, and brothers Paul-Aimée and Jacques (Johanne Rochette), all of Quebec City, as well as nine grandchildren and a great grandchild. Mattice Rev. Gérald Chalifoux directed the service at the Foyer chapel. Commemorative donations may be made to the Foyer.

June McMullan (née Rouse) died peacefully at her home in Burlington on August 28, 2004 at the age of 77. Mrs. McMullan is survived by her husband James McMullan, children Judy (husband Randall Howard) of Elora, Richard (wife Juanita) of Maryland, Patricia (husband Graham Baldwin) of Port Perry, Kathy (husband David White) of Norland and Terry (wife Nancy) of Toronto; 14 grandchildren; and brother Gilbert (wife Florence) of Haileybury. She was predeceased by her brother Bob Rouse and his wife Cecile.

Edric Christo died peacefully at Cobalt on Thursday, December 30, 2004 at the age of 83. Mr. Christo was predeceased by his wife Margaret Dent on November 28, 2002 and by his daughter Sandra Ager on June 13, 2003. Mr. Christo is survived by his loving children Lloyd (and Jeanette), Brian (and Corinne), Terry (and Carmel), Debbie (and Russ), Steven, Shawn, Sheldon (and Tonee) and Shannie (and Dave). Also left to mourn are 18 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. A memorial service was held at the Salvation Army Church on January 3, 2005 with Captains Nelson and Deris Fillier officiating. Memorial contributions to the Temiskaming Palliative Care Network will be gratefully acknowledged. Friends and family from out of town attending the funeral came from Toronto, Alliston, Rosemont, Cleveland (Ohio) and North Bay. Donat Charette of Temagami died peacefully, with his loving family at his side, on December 7, 2005 at the Temiskaming Hospital. He was 71. Mr. Charette is survived by his loving wife Rita Charette; stepchildren Michael, Kevin (and Leeanna) and Jeff (and Elaine); eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; his sister Laura; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Anna and Edmond Charette and by his brother René Charette. In keeping with Mr. Charette’s wishes there was no visitation. A graveside service was held at Whispering Pines Cemetery, Temagami, on December 10. Father Peter Moher officiated. Donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Temiskaming CAT Scan Foundation will be gratefully acknowledged by the family. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Buffam Leveille Funeral Home in Haileybury.

She was born October 26, 1944 in Montreal, Quebec to Ernest and Philemène Dionne and received her education at John 23rd Catholic School. She married Lee Brannon on October 25, 1969 in the U.S.A. and then married her second spouse Rene Garreau on September 8, 2004 in North Bay. Mrs. Brannon is survived by her son Bryan Brannon, grandson Bryan Brannon Jr. and grandson Joshua Russell. Cremation has taken place in Rouyn, Quebec.
