Minshull, Mary (nee Millar). Passed away peacefully at the Lasalle General Hospital on March 19, 2006 in her eightieth year. Beloved wife of the late Charlie Minshull. Loving mother of Carol (Mrs. Don Delauder), Gail and Johnny. Cherished grandmother of Suzanne, Diane, Brian, Greg, Lisa, Derrick, Kim, Brandon, Kristyn and Jesse. Also survived by eleven great-grandchildren and many dear nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Predeceased by her sister Rita and brother Alex. WILSON FUNERAL HOME / JOHNSTON, Sharon Elizabeth June 10, 1954 - March 7, 2006 - Sharon Johnston at the Woodland Villa, Long Sault on March 7, 2006 at the age of 51 years; formerly of 303 Robertson Avenue Cornwall for 46 years. Beloved daughter of the late Douglas F. and Jean E. Clark Johnston. Dear sister of Susan Johns Fred, Prince George, BC; Brenda Johnston George McFarlane, Cornwall; Beverly Daley Greg, Calgary, Alberta; and Brian Johnston Donna of Morrisburg, Ontario. Special aunt of Sharron Johns, Mathew Daley, Haley Johnston, Jason Daley, Douglas McFarlane, Joseph Daley and Taylor Johnston. Special niece of Robert E. Clark Barbara, Dryden, Ontario; Ruth Johnston Rankin William, Long Sault; and Mary Lynn Johnston Alguire William of Cornwall. Predeceased by her grandparents Frederick E. and Addie May Hirst Clark; and Percy F. and Estella A.M. Daye Johnston. Sharon was a very special person. Being born with Down Syndrome, Sharon still exceeded all expectations. From studying at the Kinsmen School under the tutelage of Ms. Blanche Buckner, she was able to develop to a grade 6 level. From there she went to work at A.R.C. industries where she loved answering the phone and greeting the general public at the main door. Her favorite position, however, was working at Flowers Cornwall with Raymonde MacDonald. Sharon loved life, and her energy and zest was infectious on others. Music, dancing, and playing cards were all favorites of Sharon’s. Elvis truly was King. Her trips to Reno and Las Vegas were highlights. She loved to play the nickel slots, and her “Yahoo I won could be heard throughout the casino. She loved her Kaluha and milk at special occasions. Sharon thoroughly enjoyed bowling with the Cornwall Blue Chargers, and each week professed that she beat her average even if she hadn’t. Swimming in the qualifying events for the Special Olympics was another love of Sharon’s. Christmas was a special time for Sharon. She continued to believe until the end, and because of that, the people around her had a greater appreciation for the holiday. Sharon’s innocence opened the eyes of everyone she came in contact with, and she made us all better people for just knowing her. After her mother passed away in April 2000, Sharon rose to the occasion and ventured out on her own. She loved the independence. However in 2002 her health began to deteriorate and she needed assisted living that Woodlawn Villa in Long Sault offered. It was a wonderful environment for Sharon to spend her final years. She loved all the staff and the staff was wonderful to her. A special thank you to Bonnie Loney for treating Sharon like a sister. Your level of care allowed peace of mind for the rest of the family. A special thank you to Linda Andre of Community Living as well. Even after Sharon was unable to participate in their programs, Linda would still visit Sharon. Thank you. Sharon is at peace now, and in a better place. She is now playing cards with her parents, grandparents and Aunt. She has been re-united with her dog Blackie. Thank you Sharon for making us all better people, for teaching us about unconditional love, and for appreciating the small things. A private service was held. Interment in Woodlawn Cemetery, Cornwall. CYR, Loretta (nee Gallen) Passed away on Sunday, March 19, 2006 comforted by the presence of her family at the age of 78 years. She was the loving wife of the late Roger Cyr, former president of the Hong Kong Veterans Association. Devoted mother of Reverend Terrence Cyr, Carole Kreye (Allen), Gary Cyr, Leisa Connelly (Paul) and Michele Fleming (Craig). She is survived by her dear sisters Amelia Marcoux (Quebec City) and Cynthia Chapman (Ipswich, MA); sisters-in-law Lorraine Lawlis, Pearl Leblanc, Charlotte Lepage, Gilberthe Bujold and Louise Cyr and brother-in-law Raynald Cyr. She will be greatly missed by her 10 grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and friends. SMITH, INEZ ELEAH (COLWELL) At home, surrounded by family, Inez Eleah Smith (Colwell), 80 years of age, wife of the late Albert William Smith, passed away on Sunday, March 19th, 2006 after a short battle with cancer. Inez was born in Ripples, NB, December 24th, 1925. Survived by three sons, Darrell, Merlin (Sylvia) and Jim (Elaine) and one daughter, Elaine Randall, all of Fredericton, NB; nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; one brother, Walter Colwell of Fredericton, NB; two sisters, Eva TerMarsch, of Parry Sound, ON, and Charlotte Holland of Fredericton, NB; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Predeceased by her husband, infant daughter, Gail; infant grandson, Wayne Randall; parents, Walter and Lena (Fulton) Colwell; and brother Sam Colwell. Inez attended the United Pentecostal Church of Noonan. Inez was a devoted Mother and Grandmother and had a passion for baking all her families favourite foods and having them all together on any special occasion. Linda LeBlanc 1948 - 2006 Linda LeBlanc of Riverview, NB passed away at The Moncton Hospital on Monday, March 20, 2006 at the age of 57 years. Born in Moncton on June 12, 1948 she was the daughter of Della (Murray) and the late Kenneth MacKay. She was a member of the Moncton Wesleyan Church. Linda was a hair dresser for several years owning The Hair Port Beauty Salon for over 10 years, she retired from her salon in 1994, at that time she and her husband became co-owner operators of G.L. Painting. She is survived by her loving husband, Gerard "Gerry" LeBlanc; daughter Tammy Weaver of Dieppe; son Kenneth LeBlanc (Monique) of Riverview; two grandchildren, Christian and Dawson Weaver, both of Dieppe; brothers, Kenneth (Phyllis), Darryl (Patsy), Brian (Louise), Danny (Carol), Richard (Amanda); sisters, Marjorie Vriesendorp, Peggy Lerette, Karen Fisher (David), and Judy Comack (Donald); also by several nieces and nephews and many friends. FOLEY, IRENE M. - The death of Irene M. Foley, the widow of the late Adrian F. Foley occurred on Sunday, March 19, 2006 at St. Joseph's Hospital. Irene was born in Saint John, NB on September 8, 1911. She was the daughter of the late William and Elizabeth (Whelan-Daley) Fitzpatrick. She worked as an usherette at the old Imperial Theater. Later on she worked as a Film Reviser for 20th Century Fox, Warners Brothers and Victoria Shipping. She was an excellent knitter and her skills were extended to over 500 baby hats and many "Chemo Hats for the Hospital Auxillary". She was a life long member of Stella Maris Church and a former member of the C.W.L. She will be sadly missed by her children; Gloria Hosford (Lloyd), Barbara Burns (Joseph), John Foley (Marie), Nancy Foley, Rose Marie Broatch and Carolyn La Rocque (Leonard), 16 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by three brothers; William, John & Joseph Fitzpatrick, two sisters; Lou Fitzpatick and Evelyn Morrell and one son-in-law Ralph Broatch. Resting at A. W. Bertie Mayne Peacefully on Sunday, March 19, 2006, Bertie Mayne, age 86 years, passed away at St. Boniface Hospital. Bertie was predeceased by his wife Jean on June 27, 1987. He is survived by his sons Bob (Marie), Bill (Dorothea) and Ted (Joan); daughter Trudy (Bud) Quint; grandchildren Robert (Linda), Vicki (Mark), Amber, Lindsey, Elizabeth and Alexandra Quint. Bertie married Jean on July 31, 1943 at Old St. Andrew’s Church. Bertie served with the RAF from 1939 to 1945. He worked for CN in the Transcona shops until his retirement in April 1984. He enjoyed gardening and fishing in the off hours and spent many years accompanying Jean to softball games and tournaments. Bertie was a coach for the Youth Bowling Council for over 40 years. His passion was the kids he taught. He would spend endless hours in the bowling alleys from September to the end of April teaching his students. BEECH, HERBERT HENRY - Mr. Herbert Henry Beech of Kiwanis Nursing Home and formerly of Mills Lane, Sussex, passed away at his residence on Saturday, March 18, 2006 at the age of 75. Born in Saint John on January 27, 1931, he was the son of the late Herbert and Louise (Simpson) Beech and the beloved husband of the late Gertrude (Rodgerson) Beech who passed away in 1984. Herb is survived by his four daughters; Edith Johnston and her husband Hugh, Pam Beech and Brian LeBlanc, Debbie Morrell and Doug Middleton all of Sussex and Gail Mercer and her husband Anthony of Moosehorn Creek. Nine grandchildren; Cindy, Michael and his wife Dawn, Kenneth, Stephanie Muir and her husband Collin, Tammy, Jerome, Nicholas, Sally and Bradley, as well as several nieces and nephews. Herb is predeceased by his son, Stephen and by his two sisters; Kathleen Steele and Marjorie Patrick. Herb enjoyed working at his landscaping business, working outdoors in the garden, collecting stamps and coins and reading and listening to his music. HOFF Adolf 1906 - 2006 After 99 years of generous service to God and fellowmen, Adolf Hoff was called to be to his final rest on March 17, 2006. Born on November 13, 1906 in Gluckstadt, Germany he was the second son in a family of six, of Karl and Greta Hoff, last of a long line of tannery owners. Adolf came to Canada on October 1, 1923 to his Aunt Bertha Roedler in Priddis, Alberta and the next spring went to work for Dave Nelson Sr. (who was married to cousin Erna) in Cluny. In this lively community he learned to farm and live the Western Canadian way. His brother Carl joined him in 1926 and together they began their farming careers. The Hoff brothers got to know the pioneer Kirstein family and later married sisters Lydia and May. By the late 1940's the two close-knit families were living on land that had been homesteaded by the Kirstein's in 1901, northeast of Gleichen. In a ceremony a century later, the home quarter of this farm was designated an Alberta Centennial Farm. Both families were strong community supporters. Adolf and Carl were instrumental in building Christ Lutheran Church in Gleichen, which was later converted into the one-room Craigantler School, which they faithfully attended and "looked after" for forty years. The little congregation became well known in Lutheran circles for its generosity and the many church workers it provided. Adolf is survived by his four children, Vern (Jo), Lorraine (Wilmer Kurtz, Leonard Tennis), Max (Mary) and Ken (Judy); nineteen grandchildren; thirty-nine great-grandchildren and numerous extended family members in Germany, Argentina, The United States and Canada. He was predeceased by his wife May in 1968, his son-in-law, Missionary Wilmer Kurtz in 1969 and brother Carl in 1999. Dad enjoyed his large family, especially telling stories of early times at family gatherings. At the celebration of his ninetieth birthday he demonstrated how to thresh grain with a flail, which he had made himself, modeled after the one he had used as a youth in the old country. Dad always paid great tribute to the pioneer families who had come before him to settle the Prairies. He often added "Every Western town should have an engraving that reminds the younger generations of the importance of the trusty work-horses that provided the power to open the West." Whenever the occasion permitted, both Carl and Adolf would offer thanks for the privilege of living in the free, Christian country of Canada. Throughout his long and eventful life, Dad lived in the knowledge that "God will provide" and that God directs all the events in our lives for the purposes only He knows and is for the good of all. Lucid and alert until his final days, he leaves a legacy of stewardship of his land and farm animals as well as many memorable stories of living eighty-three years in the Gleichen-Cluny community. We know Dad would sincerely thank the kind caregivers at Wheatland Lodge and the Strathmore Hospital, Pastor Dawn Nelson of Lord Of All Lutheran Church, John Speelman who visited every Friday afternoon and the many others who supported him so faithfully in his last years. DRISCOLL, Carol We have lost a powerful life force. Carol Driscoll died on Sunday, March 19, having lived and loved life to the fullest - often times against tremendous odds. Carol shared life with an expansive circle of friends to whom she was a constant joy and inspiration. Many of them were blessed to share in her last days and hours. Carol was a proud Irish Montrealer, the beloved daughter of Catherine (nee Doyle) and Gordon Driscoll and loving sister of Don, all of whom predeceased her. Carol is survived by her nephews Kevin (Deanne), Brian, and Mark. She started work at Bell Canada while still in her teens. There she worked for over 30 years, primarily as a valued and respected executive assistant to a number of senior executives. Carol built a highly successful career and forged many life-long friendships during her career at Bell. She was, in many ways, the very heart of Stentor. Carol lived with rheumatoid arthritis from the age of three. This didn't prevent her from leading a full and rich life, travelling the world and engaging in many athletic and cultural pursuits. Nor did it stop her from pursuing higher education (BA, Sir George Williams University) or contributing to the community through charitable work. She worked hard at living. She confronted her illness, the pain it caused and the demands for frequent surgery it imposed with a unique combination of courage, optimism, grace, and humour that amazed and inspired all those who knew and loved her. She was abetted in this by a team of dedicated medical professionals whom she also counted as dear friends, most notably Dr. Murnaghan, Dr. Saginur and Dr. Kraag. She was also recently blessed with a team of compassionate surgeons, doctors, and nurses at the Ottawa Hospital, Civic campus, to whom heartfelt thanks are extended. Carol will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by all those whose lives she touched and were privileged to call her friend, especially Lynn Francoeur, Gabrielle Boisclair, and Maureen McEvoy who were particularly devoted and kept the network of friends together. Farewell dear friend ... your undaunted optimism is our great legacy. HOWARD, DR. JOHN EDWARD - Dr. John Edward Howard, 66, of 129 Hawthorne St., Antigonish, N.S., passed away March 13, 2006 at St. Martha's Regional Hospital, Antigonish. Born in Saint John, N.B, he was the son of T. Michael and Florence (Egan) Howard. John graduated from St. Francis Xavier University in 1962 and Dalhousie Medical School in 1967. He became a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada (FRCSC) and went on to practice surgery at St. Martha's Regional for a number of years. He also practiced sports medicine at St. Francis Xavier University. He was actively involved in many community projects. John was a past member of R.K. MacDonald Nursing Home Foundation. At the time of his death, John was a member of the board of directors of Celtic Homes, Antigonish. John is survived by his wife Shelagh (Malloy); son Michael and grandchildren: Matthew and Lauren, Halifax; daughter Jane Anne, Halifax; Sister Mary (John) Martin, Saint John; Brothers Michael (Ann) Montreal; Tony (Karen), Halifax; loving nieces and nephews.
