Stephen Craig Wells 1963 - 2006 Stephen Craig Wells, 42, of Quispamsis, NB, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, February 15, 2006 in Saint John. He was born in Moncton, May 1, 1963, the son of Ralph "Bob" and Ellen (McWilliam) Wells. Steve attended the University of New Brunswick in Fredericton, graduating with a degree in Computer Science and most recently was employed with Alcatel. He was an outdoor enthusiast where he enjoyed camping, especially at the beach and hiking, as well. Steve was actively involved in hockey and curling, becoming a longtime member of the Thistle -St. Andrews Curling Club over 15 years ago. Steve was always known to have a camera in his hands, photographing nearly everything in sight. Above all things he loved his family and enjoyed spending quality time with them. He was a beloved son, husband, father. Steve was a special guy who will never be forgotten and will live on in the hearts of his family forever. He will be deeply missed by his loving wife, Dorothy (Branch) Wells; his precious children, Sean and Emma, both still living at home; his parents Ralph "Bob" and Ellen Wells of Hillsborough; his brother, Scott Wells of Hillsborough; Father and Mother-in-law Murray and Peggy Branch of Bathurst; as well as ten nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by an infant brother, R. Gordon Wells. Vincent James Rochefort Passed away suddenly January 24, 2006 at the Kingston General Hospital at the age of eighty-four. Born in Brewers Mills, Ontario, February 11, 1921 to Frank and Agnes Rochefort, he was a lifelong resident of the Kingston area. His beloved wife Florine Gravelle predeceased him just eleven weeks prior, November 3, 2005. He was a member of Saint Joseph's Roman Catholic Church and Assumption Church, Chippawa in the summer months. He was a former member of RCHA Club. He served for over thirty years with the Kingston Fire Department where he retired from his position as Captain twenty-five years ago. He was also an original member of the Silver Seven (Retired Firefighters). An avid euchre player, devoted father and grandfather, he loved spending time at his cottage of thirty years at Lake Chippago. Vincent is survived by his sons Dave (Debby), Ottawa, Larry (Pat) Kingston; grandchildren Matthew of Kingston; Kelly, Ottawa, Luke Toronto, Gregory and Ryan of Kingston, sister Doris Tobin (Vancouver, B.C.) and brother John (Saskatoon, SasK). He was predeceased by his wife Florine, son James Rochefort and brothers Edward, Joseph and William. The funeral was held Saturday January 28, 2006 with Monsignor Joseph Lynch officiating. Pallbearers were grandsons Matthew, Luke, Gregory and Ryan Rochefort; nephews Bill Rochefort and Joe Jefferies. Honourary pallbearers were members of the Kingston Fire Department. Honour guards were formed at Brock Street Fire Hall, St. Joseph's Church, St. Mary's Cemetery Gate and at the grave site by firefighters from all city stations. SAWCHUK, Taras Michael With love and sadness, his family records his passing in the very early morning of Thursday, February 9, 2006 at Sudbury Regional Hospital, Laurentian Site, Sudbury, Ontario, from complications due to Parkinson's Disease. Taras was born in Britannia Beach, B.C., July 18, 1926, to Ukrainian immigrant parents, Mitchal and Sophie (nee Demkiw). The young family moved to Sudbury in the early 1930s. He attended Sudbury High School and continued his education in architectural design at Ryerson Polytechnical Institute Toronto. In Toronto he also met his wife, Sonia (nee Nicoloff), and they returned to raise their three children in Sudbury where he initially pursued a career in architecture. In the 1960s he designed Chelmsford Valley District Composite School and went on to became a dedicated and much-loved teacher in the same school in the 1960s through to his retirement late 1980s. He returned to British Columbia in the 1990s, for love. He was an enthusiastic Vancouver folk orchestra member. He created regular opportunities for travel with family members and close friends, to share his love of music, theatre and visual arts. He was a watercolour artist. He loved the Canadian outdoors and was an avid cross-country skier and tennis player. He moved once more to Sudbury in 2001 where, in spite of failing health, he is remembered by those who assisted him as a gentle, considerate man, who retained his exceptional social graces (and love of dancing) to the end. If desired, a donation to humanitarian cause of your choice is an appropriate remembrance of his strong convictions and activism in that regard. Taras was also a life-long member of the Association of the United Ukrainian Canadians and a founding member of the Sudbury Jubilee Folk Ensemble. He is survived by his loving partner, Margot Thomson; his son, Jim; two daughters, Sonia and Taressa; three grandchildren, Justin, Mikaila and Wave; his brother, Oryst; and nephew, Sergei. Shortly before his death, Taras learned he would be a great-grandfather. Alexander Tarino Sawchuk is expected in March. Friends and family will be received at the JACKSON AND BARNARD FUNERAL HOME, (233 Larch Street, Sudbury) on Sunday, February 19, from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. A memorial service to celebrate his life is planned for the spring in Sudbury. Ash interment is also planned for the spring.

HARPER, Beryl (1923-2006) - Passed away peacefully to be with her Lord at Linhaven Home for the Aged surrounded by her loving family on Friday, February 17, 2006. Beloved wife of Jack; dear mother of Nancy (William Elkin), Debbie, Bill (Beth) Harper; grandmother of Ashley and Jonathan Elkin and Jessica and Erin Harper. Predeceased by her parents Henry and Dorothy Fernay and her brother Harry Fernay. Beryl was a longtime member of Welland Avenue United Church and a lifetime member of the St. Catharines Golf and Country Club. Beryl was born in England, but was a lifelong resident of St. Catharines. Beryl and Jack were also longtime summer residents of Huntsville. She had a large circle of friends throughout Niagara and Muskoka. Beryl loved golfing, artistic pursuits, her dogs and travel. Born in Manchester, England April 4, 1911, she immigrated to Montreal in June 1927 where she spent most of her life. Predeceased by her first husband William Albert Slater (1944) and her husband of thirty-four years Archie Clive Dutton (1982), sisters Madge and Mary, her brother David Mitchell and grandson Todd Campbell. Betty is fondly remembered by her much loved daughter Barbara Slater Campbell, son-in-law Arnold, granddaughters Karen (Daniel Dufour), Jill (Jeff Johnson) grandson Geoffrey (Marina) great-grandchildren Steven and Sarah Dufour, Emily and Kevin Johnson. She will also be remembered by her half-brothers Raymond (Mary) and Gord (Barbara) Mitchell, and several nieces and nephews. CRITOPH, Eugene Peacefully at the Ottawa Civic Hospital on Friday February 17th, 2006. Born in Vancouver, March 29, 1929. Predeceased by his wife of 48 years, Beth, who passed away in October of 2000. Gene was a renowned physicist who played a prominent role in the development of Canada's early nuclear reactor program and enjoyed a long and successful career with the Atomic Energy of Canada Ltd., spending much of his career in the Deep River area. Gene also loved games and puzzles of all descriptions. Survived by his four sons, Chris, Bard, Mark and Boyd and his 9 beloved grandchildren. POHRAN, Nicholas M.D. Passed away on Thursday, February 2, 2006 at the Greater Niagara General Hospital in his 81st year. Dr. Pohran, beloved husband of Colleen Sadler. Loving father of Sonya (James) Watson, of Winnipeg, John (Cynthia) Pohran, of Ottawa, Alexandra (Russell) Dawkins, of Victoria, Margaret Khomenko of Toronto, Christopher (Abbey) Pohran, of Calgary and Donna Pohran, of Fonthill. Dear grandfather of Kevin, Andrew, Gene, Kathryn, Nigel, Nadya, Jason, Klim, Simon, Alannah, and Kelley. Brother of Nadya (the late Theodore) McCart, of Brampton. Predeceased by his parents John and Anastasia Pohranychny. Dr. Pohran was born in Ukraine in 1925. He later went on to graduate from McMaster University in 1946 and McGill University in 1953, receiving his Doctorate in Medicine. He held the Chief of Staff position with Greater Niagara General Hospital from 1973 to 1988 and was a Coroner in the Niagara Region for many years. He was a Member of Council of the College of Physicians and Surgeons from 1980 to 1988 and received an Honorary Life Membership with Ontario Medical Association and Canadian Medical Association. He was also a Past President of Community Concerts and a Past President of the Canadian Club. A Funeral Service was held at Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Fonthill on Wednesday, February 8, 2006 with Canon David Browning officiating. Interment followed in Fonthill Cemetery. If desired, memorial donations may be made to The Multiple Sclerosis Society, Research Unit, The Niagara Symphony Orchestra or Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Fonthill through the offices of Hetherington & Deans Funeral Chapel or James L.
