RODDEN, Betty (nee Niddrie). Peacefully at home, on Wednesday, February 1, 2006, in her eighty-fourth year. Beloved wife of Tom and cherished mother of Tom (Vickie) and Janice (Mark). Loving Nanny to Kevin, Samantha, Timothy, Ryan and the late Ronald. Predeceased by three sisters and three brothers. She will be sadly missed by her brother Douglas, several nieces, nephews and by her many friends. Betty will always be remembered for her compassion and kindness, her sparkling eyes and winning smile. Her family members offer their sincere thanks and appreciation to the administrative personnel, the medical and nursing staffs, the social service workers and the home care team of the Samuel de Champlain CLSC Unit for the professional and loving care that they provided over the past many years, which made it possible for Betty to remain in her home. SULLIVAN, J. Clair, DFC WWII Veteran, F/O, R.A.F. #12 Sqn March 5, 1914 February 1, 2006 Peacefully at the Grace Manor. Beloved husband of Catharine "Kay" (nee White) for almost 64 years. Loving father of Stephen (Elaine), John (ex-wife Lyne) and Dennis (Sue). Proud grandfather of Stephen, Erica and Olivia. Son of the late John and Vivian Sullivan of Peterborough, Ont. Dear brother of Hilda Egerer (the late Easton) of Oshawa, Jack (Florence) of Toronto and Mary O'Toole (the late Frank) of Toronto. Predeceased by brother George (the late Jeanne) and by sister Vivian (the late Dick Herr). Clair will be fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews, family and friends. Clair had a lifelong passion for painting that he was able to fully realize after a rewarding career with Quaker Oats in Peterborough and later the Public Service in Ottawa. He has blessed us with a rich legacy of his own art that will forever serve as a reminder of his love of life and family. TIMLIN, Betty Betty died peacefully in the Ottawa General Hospital on Thursday, February 2, 2006 at the age of 76, after a long battle with lung cancer and Alzheimers. As always in her life, she was surrounded by her beloved family. She leaves behind her devoted husband of 53 years, Tom, sons Scott, Robert and Thomas, grandchildren Sara, Chris, Katrina, Madeline, Alison and Alexa, daughters-in-law Lana, Serena and Marie and many relatives and friends. Born Elizabeth Faith Rutherford on January 8th, 1930, Betty was a gracious, considerate and nurturing presence to all those that she touched in life. She graduated from Commerce High School, pursued a career in fashion retail, then worked for the National Public Archives. She enjoyed cooking, painting, reading, card games, trips to P.E.I. and Florida and especially the activities of her sons and grandchildren. Betty's kind smile and thoughtful words will be deeply missed. May God grant her eternal joy. A remembrance wake will be held at McEvoy-Shields Funeral Home, 235 Kent Street on Friday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral Mass Saturday at 10 a.m. in St. Patrick's Church, (Fallowfield). DEANE, Clifford Robert "Cliff" Cliff passed away in Calgary on Tuesday, January 31, 2006 at the age of 81 years. He is survived by his daughters, Valerie (Myles) Herda and Lori Deane; grandchildren, Christina, Austin, Justin and Caitlyn; and great-grandson Stryder Deane. Also surviving, his wife's sister Eileen; sister-in-law Audrey; niece Linda Teriesky and nephew Terry Dean. Cliff was born and spent his life in Calgary, where he met and married Pat and they raised their family. He worked as an accountant and spent most of his working life at Gulf Oil. Cliff loved the outdoors and was an avid golfer. DOUGLAS, Alice Maude (nee Rieger) Alice Maude Douglas passed away peacefully January 24, 2006 in Drumheller Continuing Care. Alice was born January 20, 1924, in Delia, AB to Christine and Thomas F. Rieger. During her high school years, Alice played ice hockey, softball and helped edit the Delia High School yearbook while competing academically with her twin sister Evelyn. The twins graduated with honours from Delia High School in 1942. Alice and Evelyn then completed teacher's training at the Edmonton Normal School where they played varsity fastball. They continued their training during the next few summers at both the U of A and U of Victoria. Alice and Evelyn taught at a number of rural one-room schools in Alberta and often shared the same teacherage. Alice's first teaching position was at Hayfield School near Beaverlodge, AB. This was followed by teaching positions at Rockyford Colony School, Majestic Lake School, Horseshoe Canyon School before moving to Calgary where she taught at Ogden School. After fourteen years of teaching, Alice retired to devote her life to her family. She did some substitute teaching at Churchill School. Alice was very proud of her students and delighted in following their accomplishments. Alice was an avid researcher and learner and she loved baking, collecting recipes, reading, letter writing, vegetable and flower gardening, bicycling, playing softball, walking, skating, current events. Auntie particularly enjoyed the many road trips with Alister which took them to see the area surrounding Drumheller and much of Alberta, Saskatchewan and BC. Alice will be missed by her sister Louise F. Smith in Ottawa, ON and cousins in Germany and England as well as numerous nieces and nephews and friends. Alice will also be missed by her niece Margaret Giles and family. Alice will be intensely missed by her beloved nephew Stanley T. Bakgaard (Devra Rooney and Mia Maluchi of Portland, OR) and niece Wendy E. Bakgaard and her much loved nephew-in-law Tim Blumenschein of Calgary. Alice was predeceased by her dearly beloved husband Alister Douglas in 1996 and her beloved son William T. Douglas; her identical twin Evelyn M. Bakgaard, sisters, Marguerite Dare, Violette Baskerville, Caroline (Bertha) Fraser; and her brothers, Thomas F. Rieger II, Henry J. Rieger and W.C. "Bill" Rieger. Alice's family extends their sincere gratitude to the wonderfully caring staff and volunteers at the Drumheller Continuing Care Centre for their tender loving care during Alice's last years. Thank you to Dr. Racz, Dr. Lister, H & H Optical and their staffs for their continued care and concern. ANDRUS, Jules 1921 - 2006 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jules Andrus at the age of 84. He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife Olga (Ollie); son Brian (Flo) and daughter Deborah (Debi) Andrus; as well as his precious grandchildren, Elise, Ryan and Justine. He is also survived by his brothers, Richard (Irene) and Norman, his sister Norma Linda and many nieces and nephews. Jules was active in the trucking industry and a member of the Alberta Transportation Board. Over the years he was very active with the Edmonton Jaycees, Westmount Lions Club and Scouts Canada. Jules was laid to rest on January 25 at Evergreen Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, friends who so wish may make a donation to the Alberta Diabetes Foundation in care of Jules Andrus.

ANTHONY, Alan Fearless firefighter, ambulance server for the aboriginal peoples of Alberta, global traveler, and service on the Royal Yacht Britannia, eternal practical joker, gunsmith, big game hunter, car buff, dog breeder, insatiable investigator of alternative health practices/medicines, triggered by his MS, Alan passed peacefully on Sunday, January 29, 2006. KAWAMURA, Rev. Dr. Yutetsu The family of Rev. Dr. Yutetsu Kawamura would like to gratefully acknowledge and thank you for your comforting words of sympathy, flowers, and memorial tributes in his name to the Lethbridge Nikka Yuko Centennial Japanese Gardens. Dad Kawamura passed away peacefully on December 18, 2005 at the Raymond Hospital. He had served many Buddhist congregations in Alberta and in Hawaii, was named as a Member of the Order of Canada (1984), conferred the rank of the Order of Sacred Treasure Gold and Silver Rays from the Emperor of Japan (1986), was conferred an Honorary Doctor's Degree from the University of Lethbridge (1987), awarded the Queen Elizabeth Golden Jubilee Medal (2002) and the Alberta Centennial Medal (2005), and has been selected as one of the one hundred people who have contributed to the growth and development of Alberta. Such honors and work could not have been possible without your support. The support and kindness that you have extended to him throughout his life will always be remembered with deep gratitude. KEHLER, Peter Paul September 24, 1929 - February 1, 2006 Peter passed away suddenly at his residence in Strathmore, Alberta on February 1, 2006. He is survived by his loving wife Fran; his children, Donna (Ron) Johnson, Debbie Kehler, Adam (Shirley) Kehler, Shirley-Ann (George) Reichert, Murray Kehler, Annabelle Smith, Linda Johnson, and Leonard (Lee) Kehler; thirty-one grandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Alec and Tom; one sister Louise. Peter is also survived by Fran's children, Barry (Sandy), Bradley (Wilma), Beverly (Don) and Blair (Dana). Peter was predeceased by his first wife Barbara in 1996, one brother Aloyius and one grandchild Kari-Ann Johnson. Peter grew up in Saskatchewan, moving to Alberta in 1963, and worked in the construction industry. He retired to Strathmore in 1997. NEILSON, William George "Bill" March 24, 1924 - January 19, 2006 Bill passed over peacefully on January 19, 2006 at the age of 81 after suffering a severe stroke on January 13, 2006. Bill will be lovingly remembered and missed by his wife of fifty-two years, Norma; and their children, Debbie (Colin) Farquharson, Brenda (Len) Nugent, Robert Neilson and Gary Burke, Valerie (Mark) Fleming, James (Janice) Neilson; as well as his grandchildren, Lisa and Sara Farquharson, and Zac and Katie Fleming. Bill and Norma and family moved to Kamloops, BC in 1972 from Calgary. Bill was active in the Navy in Calgary from 1943 to 1951, served in the Korean War, was in the reserves from 1952 to 1966 and retired as a Commissioned Officer of the RCNR. Bill loved to golf, garden and do wood working. He built many spectacular bird feeders for family and friends that will grace their yards and gardens for years to come. A Celebration of Bill's Life was held in Kamloops, BC on January 28, 2006 at the family home.

She was born in Vineland and married Gerrit Hunink in 1961 in Campden. Mildred moved to the Hagar-Markstay area in 1987 from Beamsville. She was a faithful member of the Markstay Union Church and also a member of the Church's Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed knitting, western music and gardening. Beloved wife of Gerrit Hunink of Hagar. BERGERON, Josephine "Josie" (nee Lacourciere) In loving memory of Josephine "Josie" Bergeron (nee Lacourciere), 93 years of Sudbury who passed away Thursday, February 2nd, 2006 at her residence with her loving family at her side. She was born in Montcerf, Gatineau, Quebec. A longtime & well respected Garson resident Josie was a devout Roman Catholic. She had been a member of St. John the Evangelist Church (Garson) and then St. Clement's Church & a member of the parish CWL. An avid sports fan she enjoyed baseball, hockey and wrestling. She had been a volunteer with the Red Cross and a member of the Older Adult Center. She was devoted to her loving family who will be remembered as a remarkable mother who dedicated her life to her children & grandchildren. Beloved wife of Wilfred Bergeron predeceased 1944. DESORMEAUX, Sylvio Henri The family announces with sorrow, his peaceful passing, Monday evening, January 30, 2006 at the Sudbury Regional Hospital, Laurentian Site at the age of 84 years. Son of the late Gonzague and of the late Emilia (nee Lebel) Desormeaux. Beloved husband of Jeannine Desormeaux (nee Myre) of Sudbury. Loving father of Jocelyne "Joyce" Price (Tom) of Whitefish, Lorraine O'Brien (Kevin) and Gilles Desormeaux (Elsa) both of Sudbury, Pierre Desormeaux (Bedu) of South Africa and Marcel Desormeaux (Anna) of Ottawa. Lovingly remembered by his 10 grandchildren and by his 3 great grandsons and his great- granddaughter. Mr. Desormeaux was born in Hull, Qc. And was a member of the Royal Canadian Navy, serving in the Second World War. He was a member of the War Pensioners of Canada. Sylvio married the former Jeannine (née Myre) in 1946 and later commenced working with Inco Limited, retiring in 1981 as a welder. He was a member of the Inco Quarter Club. KRASMAN, Lucille Marion 1927 - 2006 Lucille Marion Krasman of Calgary passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, February 2, 2006, after a courageous twenty-year battle with cancer at the age of 78 years. Lucille was born near Champion, AB, on April 27, 1927. She grew up on a farm with her parents and her sister Aileen and attended all levels of school in Champion. After her marriage to John in 1947, they settled in Calgary, AB. Lucille's greatest passion was gardening and she spent many hours in her Rock Garden. Lucille is survived by her daughter Judith; her son Larry; sister and brother-in-law, Aileen and Nelson MacDonald; sister-in-law Elsie Krasman; niece Donna Scott and her nephews, Ken Krasman, Doug Krasman, Leslie Krasman, Ron Kask and Stanley Howe. She was predeceased by her husband John and her parents, Harvey and Louise. McFERRAN, Gerald Lovell (Gerry) Following an extended battle with cancer, with his wife Kay at his side, Gerry slept away peacefully on February 1, 2006. He was well loved as a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, father-in-law and friend. He will be greatly missed. During his life, in Burlington, Winnipeg, Fredericton and Calgary, Gerry and Kay were involved in numerous volunteer organizations such as CanSurmount and Meals on Wheels, grabbing every opportunity to offer friendship or assistance. While sharing his own battle with cancer, he drove as well as counseled other patients. Aircrew was a great joy for him, as he served overseas as a flight navigator on a Lancaster during World War II. Gerry was and still is a hero, not only for his service to our country but above all for his dedication and love as a husband and father. Camping, friends, food, curling and music were the biggest pleasures in his life and his five "girls" were his greatest love. ORMAN, John (Jack) Charles May 23, 1925 - February 1, 2006 Jack Orman, fondly known as Boom to his grandchildren and many others, beloved husband of Doreen, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 1, 2006, with his family around him. Boom will be remembered for his devotion to family, his career in the oil patch, time well spent at Canyon Meadows Golf and Country Club and most of all for his legendary sense of humour. Jack's greatest enjoyment in his later years was his participation in the Grandparent Reading Program at Sunnyside School, where the children lined up to sit at his table. Jack was born in Calgary and except for his service in World War II, lived on the same street in Calgary for all his eighty years. He was the second of three generations to attend Crescent Heights High School. Jack began his career at Pacific Petroleum in 1954. He held various positions in the oil industry as landman, oil scout and most notably, as a founder of Petroleum Information Exchange. He retired from the industry in 1982. Jack will be sadly missed by his wife Doreen; son Rick (Susan); daughter Maureen (Pat) Frewer; and six grandchildren, Sean, Riley and Cayley Orman, and Monica Ferris (Gord), Paige, and Francesca Frewer. R. Kristian Rasmussen November 01, 1918 - February 02, 2006 Funeral arrangements by Regina Funeral Home RASMUSSEN, R. Kristian was born on November 1, 1918 and passed away on February 2, 2006. Born and raised in Denmark, Kristian was the oldest of 11 children. Following a brief courtship, Kristian married his love Dagny Larsen in 1946. After 15 years as a farm manager where he gained many skills, Kristian moved his family that now included 3 children, to Canada in 1959, where they finally settled in Saskatchewan’s capital, Regina. Once in Regina he was employed by Sherwood Co-op Home Center and after 25 years he retired in 1985. After retirement Kristian could be found in his workshop, building everything from garden sheds and furniture to children’s toys. Besides woodworking Kristian liked to read, write, travel and took an interest in world events. Kristian was happiest surrounded by his family and grandchildren. His devotion and love for family was a guiding principle of his life and is the personal legacy he leaves to them. Kristian is survived and dearly missed by his loving wife of 59 years Dagny; their children Ida (Jasbir) of Annapolis, Maryland; Ole (Mariann) and Bo (Barb) of Regina; grandchildren Michelle (Pete), Nicole, Alex, Lisa, Katie (Jon), Kirsten, Bonnie (Richard), Kristian (Renae), Brooke and great granddaughter Fynley. The family would like to thank the staff of Pioneer Village, 4-West for their loving care and compassion. MONAHAN; Dr. Arthur Patrick - The twin son of Arthur Joseph Monahan and Grace Cecilia Fitzgerald, was born in Brantford, Ont., on August 18, 1928. He is survived by his wife, Carol Anne; brother, Dr. Edward Monahan; sister, Rita Fiorini; children, Michael (Barbara Monahan), Toronto; Paul (Nina Monahan), Norway; Moira (Matthew Murphy), Halifax; Corinne (Erik Twohig), Halifax; John Christopher (Ashley McCall), Toronto; and Valery (Sam Gallagher), Whitehorse; stepdaughter, Lisa Mary St. Clair; stepson, Roy Douglas Todd St. Clair (Susan St. Clair); grandchildren, Evan, Mari, Megan, Sophie, Grace, Kate, Connor, Liam, Clare Margaret, Colin, Claire Mary, Katharine St. Clair, and Ronan St. Clair. He was predeceased by his first wife, Margaret Jean (Munro); daughter, Mary at birth; granddaughter, Jennifer Monahan, and stepdaughter, Victoria Carol Anne “Tori“ St. Clair. He received his primary and secondary education at Saint Mary's Separate School, Brantford; Brantford Collegiate Institute and Vocational School, and St. Michael's College School, Toronto. He attended the University of Toronto, where he received a B.A. (Honors), M.A. and Ph.D., and the Pontifical Institute of Mediaeval Studies, which awarded him an L.M.S. His full-time and exclusively academic career began at Marquette University, Milwaukee, and continued at the University of St. Jerome's College, now affiliated with the University of Waterloo, Mount Saint Vincent University and Saint Mary's University, Halifax, from which he retired as Professor Emeritus in 1993 after 31 years of service. Always active in the Saint Mary's Faculty Association, he was instrumental as its president in forming the first faculty union in an accredited university in Canada. He also served for many years on the executive of the Canadian Association of University Teachers, was a member of Saint Mary's University Senate, and its sometime chairman, and on Saint Mary's Board of Governors. He served for many years as secretary of the Canadian Catholic Historical Association, of whose Annual Review he was editor; and was for a number of years director of the Saint Mary's Institute of Human Values, where he edited its publication, The Vital Nexus. He was also an active member for many years of the New Democratic Party, standing once as a federal candidate. His field of research was mediaeval political philosophy, where he published a three-volume series for the period 500-1750 A.D., many monographs, both analytic studies and translations, as well as many articles and reviews. He died at home in Halifax on Friday, February 3, 2006. Donations in his name may be made to the QEII Foundation, Dr. Bell Prostate Cancer Research. Cremation has already taken place, and a funeral mass will be held in St. Theresa's Roman Catholic Church on Tuesday, February 7, at 11 a.m., Father Lloyd O'Neil officiating.
