GOUIN, P. Pierre, S.J. 1917 - 2005 À Saint-Jérôme, le 18 décembre 2005, est décédé à l'âge de 88 ans, le P. Pierre Gouin, s.j., fils de feu Télesphore Gouin et de feu Jeanne Massicotte. Né à Champlain, il fit ses études aux Collèges Saint-Ignace et Brébeuf et entra chez les jésuites en 1937. Ordonné prêtre en 1951, il fut professeur en Éthiopie (46-48; 54-77) et fondateur-directeur de l'Observatoire de géophysique de l'Université d'Addis Ababa (57-77), professeur à Manille (78-80) et à Nairobi (80-86). De retour au Canada, il continua ses recherches en géophysique et, avec l'aide de Claude de Grandpré, publia en 2001 «Tremblements de terre historiques au Québec (1534-1925)», Éditions Guérin, 1491 pages. Outre ses confrères jésuites, il laisse dans le deuil ses frères Claude (feu Catherine Harvey), Michel (Micheline Lacoursière), Gilles (Andrée Corbeil), ses soeurs Gisèle (feu Daniel Laprise), Rita et Margo (Dr. Marcel Boisvert), un beau-frère Juraj de Kufrin (feu Monique), neveux et nièces, parents et amis, sa soeur Thérèse, M.I.C., missionnaire en Afrique et son frère Maurice (feu Jeanne Graillon), maintenant décédés, complétaient cette famille de cinq frères et cinq soeurs. He is survived by his three brothers (Claude, Michel and Gilles), his three sisters (Gisele, Rita and Margot), his brother-in-law Juraj de Kufrin, several nieces and nephews and cousins, as well as his fellow Jesuits. Father Gouin entered the Jesuit Order at Sault-aux-Recollets in Montreal in 1937. He was ordained priest in 1951. He founded and directed the "Geophysical Observatory" of the University of Addis Ababa in Ethiopia where he worked from 1946 to 1977. He also taught in Manila, the Philippines from 1978 to 1980 and in Nairobi, Kenya, from 1980 to 1986. Back in Canada, he continued his research in geophysics. During his academic career, he published 43 scientific articles and 3 books. With the collaboration of Claude de Grandpre, he published Historical Earthquakes felt in Quebec (1534-1925), Editions Guerin, 2001,1491 pages. Father Gouin's funeral will be held on Wednesday, December 21, at 10.30 a.m. at "Maison des Jesuites", 175 Boulevard des Hauteurs in St. Jerome. Cathie Shirley Williams August 17, 1953 - December 20, 2005 Funeral arrangements by Regina Funeral Home WILLIAMS – On Tuesday, December 20, 2005, Cathie passed away peacefully, at the age of 52, surrounded by her loving family. She was the cherished wife of Kim Williams, and the beloved mother of Bradley, Michael and Mark. Mourning her loss as well, are her sister Margaret Huntington, husband Garry and their children Jeff and Claire. She is also survived by her mother-in-law Alma Williams; brother-in-law Bob Williams of Montreal; Jacqui and Terry Bertram and daughters Megan and Devon of Calgary; Les and Jackie Williams and children Alex, Matt and Erin of Lacombe, AB. Throughout her four-year battle with breast cancer, Cathie gave us all a truly remarkable example of courage and strength. She handled all that she was required to endure with great dignity and without complaint. She was comforted at the end of her life with the knowledge that she would be joining her mother Daphne, who predeceased her in 1997, and her father Bob, who passed away in 1983. Cathie steadfastly supported her husband Kim in all he did throughout their twenty-eight years of marriage. She was a warm and loving mother to her three sons, and took her greatest joy out of life’s simple pleasures: summer vacations with her family to Clear Lake or Waskesiu; walks with her beloved dogs; and fun times with her close-knit group of girl friends. She was a long-time employee with the University of Regina, working in various departments over the course of thirty years. She particularly enjoyed her involvement with Alumni Services, but above all, she valued the great friendships she developed among her co-workers. Cathie was one of the world’s gentlest souls; her thoughts were always for others. Her kind and loving spirit will live in our memories forever. A CELEBRATION OF CATHIE’S LIFE will be held at Wascana Country Club, on Friday, December 23, 2005 at 1:30 p.m. The family extends their thanks to Dr. Luis Salgado, Dr. Muhammad Salim and the wonderful, caring staff of the Palliative Care Unit at the Pasqua Hospital. Mildred Basten, 95, Green Bay, died Sunday, Dec. 18, 2005, at a local nursing home. She was born Nov. 9, 1910, in Green Bay, daughter of the late Jules and Jennie (Rentmaster) Delveaux. On Feb. 12, 1928, she married Louis H. Basten at St. Willebrord Catholic Church. He preceded her in death in 1963. Mildred was a member of St. Bernard's Parish. She was bookkeeper for Louis H. Basten Construction Company and also worked for Reimer Meat Company. Mildred loved her grandchildren, loved gardening, cooking and playing cards. Mildred is survived by one son, Gary (Judy) Basten, Green Bay; three daughters, Mercedes (Denis) Maloney, Green Bay; Jackie Lamberg, Appleton, Wis.; and Janice Baye, Green Bay; 11 grandchildren, Linda Allen and her friend, Debbie Roulette, Denis (Laura) Maloney Jr., Jay (Vicki) Maloney, Lisa Maloney, Joy Keating, Guy (Laura) Lamberg, Craig Baye, Polly (John) Willis, Andy (Jane) Basten, Julie (Robert) Brocker, Mike Basten; 21 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Ernest (Irene) Delveaux, George Delveaux; one sister, Myrtle (Elmer) Longrie; two sons-in-law, Vernon Lamberg and Kenneth Baye; one granddaughter, Marisa Maloney. She was born in Rogersville, New Brunswick, Canada, the daughter of Arthur and Edme`e (Melanson) Doucette. Mrs. Doucette worked at Curtiss Wright for many years. He served in World War II for four years and fought in five major battles. Edna Leola Ladabouche, age 102, passed away on December 17, 2005, at Our House at Park Terrace in Rutland.Edna was born in Salina, Kansas, on January 3, 1903, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. R. McCoy. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 57 years, Benjamin Norman Ladabouche. She was also predeceased by several brothers and a sister.Edna worked at Schrafft's Restaurants for over 40 years. Upon retiring from Schrafft's in 1969, she and her husband moved up to the home they built in Rutland. They spent many joyous years together fishing on Chittenden Dam and on lakes up in Maine.Edna was a wonderful cook and enjoyed cooking and entertaining their many friends from near and far.Edna is survived by her nieces, Betty Ladabouche of Rutland, Lois Elder of Galena, Kansas, and Colleen Scott of Norman, Oklahoma. She graduated from Southbridge High School in 1976 and from Westfield State College in 1980. She also had further training with the Sylvan Learning Center in Washington. Gail was a 4th grade teacher at the Brookfield Elementary School for 22 years before her illness. She previously worked as a substitute teacher in Brimfield and in Sturbridge. She was previously nominated for teacher of the year in Brookfield. She was the director of the MCAS Tutoring Program at Brookfield Elementary and was a Mentor Teacher. She also served on various committees in the Brookfield School system. She loved to garden, travel and remodel her home. She especially loved working with her students. NEW BEDFORD -- Ernest R. Bouchard, 88, of New Bedford died Monday, Dec. 19, 2005, at home after a long illness. He was the husband of Anne V. (Auger) Bouchard; they were married 50 years. A lifelong resident of New Bedford, he was the son of the late Albert and Fabiola (Moreau) Bouchard. He was a communicant of St. Anthony of Padua Church and a former communicant of Sacred Heart Church. Mr. Bouchard was a former carpenter for the Carpenter's Union; he had been a member for 50 years. He served in the Army during World War II in the European Theater. He enjoyed playing cards and horseshoes, and spending time with family and friends. Survivors include his widow; four sons, Roger Bouchard and his wife, Joyce, of Dartmouth, Joseph Bouchard and his wife, Suzanne, Leo Bouchard and his wife, Pamela, and Normand Bouchard and his wife, Nancy, all of New Bedford; a daughter, Pauline McAlister, and her husband, Keith, of New Bedford; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Marie Piche, and Eugene and Armand Bouchard. His funeral Mass will be at 9 a.m. tomorrow in St. Anthony of Padua Church. Burial with military honors will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Arrangements are by Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St.

NEW BEDFORD -- Doris D. (Boucher) Perry, 77, of North Dartmouth died Sunday, Dec. 18, 2005, at Southeastern Massachusetts Health & Rehabilitation Center after a long illness. She was the widow of Everett Perry. Born in New Bedford, she was the daughter of the late Alfred and Anna (Dubois) Boucher. She lived in North Dartmouth for 14 years and was a communicant of St. Julie Billiart Church. She was an attendant at Avenue Coin Laundry from 1981 to 1991 and retired from Jolly Soap Opera Laundry in 1996. Mrs. Perry was a former member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of Freetown. She enjoyed crossword puzzles and knitting. She was a member of the Secret Pals Club. Survivors include two daughters, Lorraine Majndle and her husband, Phil, and Barbara Dakin and her husband, Darren, all of Rochester; a son, Michael Perry, and his wife, Donna, of North Dartmouth; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Her funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in St. Julie Billiart Church at 10. Burial will be private. Arrangements are by Aubertine-Lopes Funeral Home, 129 Allen St.

Né à Grande-Digue le 24 juillet 1906, il était fils de feu Joseph Breau et de feu Pélagie LeBlanc. Outre son épouse, il laisse dans le deuil trois filles: Yvette Maillet (André) et Diane Poirier (Normand), toutes deux de Bouctouche et Annette Arsenault (Alvin) de Richibouctou-Village; trois fils: Yvon (Odette), David (Diane) et Bertin (Mona), tous de Baie de Bouctouche, ainsi que 12 petits-enfants, sept arrière-petits-enfants et plusieurs neveux et nièces. Un fils, Alcide (2000); deux soeurs: Ida et Eva, ainsi que deux frères: Edmond et Eric, l’ont précédé dans la tombe. M. Breau était membre du Club de l’âge d’or de Bouctouche. Demers, 85, formerly of Berlin, NH, passed away on December 16, 2005 at Hanover Terrace Healthcare, Hanover, NH, of natural causes.,Mrs. Demers was born May 10, 1920 in St. Sylvestre, Quebec, the daughter of Alfred and Amanda Dion. She graduated from Angel Guardian School.Jeannette spent most of her life in Berlin, NH, until moving to Lebanon, NH, in 2001 to be close to her family.Jeannette married Albert Demers on June 17, 1940 and raised two sons, Lucien and Don. Besides running her household and raising two boys, Jean owned and operated a hardware store for 16 years in Berlin. She also did volunteer work at the hospital emergency room. She then worked as a cashier at Freddie Prince IGA for many years until retiring.Her family includes: her son Lucien A. Demers of White River Jct, VT, and her three daughters-in-law Sue Burnham (my Suzie) of White River Jct, VT, and Louise Wagner of Croydon, NH, and Barbara Boutin of Enfield, NH; two sisters, Mrs. Fernande “Bea” Vaillancourt of Berlin, NH, and Mrs. Irene Beasley of Warwick, RI; five grandchildren, Donna, Scott, Shawn, Lisa and Brian; nine great-grandchildren, Melissa, Amanda, Bradley, Darien, Aaron, Zachary, Sarah, Gage and Justin as well as several nieces and nephews.Jeannette was preceded in death by her husband Albert in September 1973, her son Donald in October 1973, her two sisters, Lucille in January 2003 and Sister Jean Lucille in March of 2005.At her request there will be no calling hours.A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 21, 2005 at St. Anne Church of Good Shepherd Parish, 345 Pleasant St. Berlin, NH.
