Wesley E. Jolin, 78, Kasilof, Alaska, formerly of Mott, died Nov. 28, 2005, at his home, from complications of COPD. His ashes will be interred at a later date at Fort Richardson National Cemetery, Alaska.He is survived by his wife, Vivian; three sons, James, Mitchell and Charles; two daughters, Cynthia Colton and Georgia Goodwin; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.Published in The Bismarck Tribune on 12/4/2005.

Chaput, Clayton Albert (age 62) Of Corona, passed away Nov. 30, 2005 in Los Angeles, CA. Clayton was a chief business official for several southern California school districts for over 22 years. Clayton is survived by his wife of 38 years, Deborah; a son, Mark; daughter, Katherine; and five grandchildren, Jacob, Sophia, Sydney, Hannah, Abigail; son-in-law, Tim; daughter-in-law, Laura. Carolyn Buchanan (née Collier) Funeral arrangements by Scott Funeral Home (Brampton Chapel) It is with sad hearts that the family announces the passing of Carolyn on Saturday, December 3, 2005 at Grace Manor, Brampton in her 62nd year. Despite many years of battling breast cancer, Carolyn lived a full life and brought inspiration to everyone she met. She leaves behind two daughters Brenda Brazier and Barbara Buchanan, her sons-in-law Donald Brazier and Scott Fowler and grand-daughters Jessie and Samantha Brazier and Caeleigh Fowler. Ex-wife and very close friend of Grant Buchanan. Daughter of Elsie and the late Charles Collier. Sister of Carmen and her late husband Bud MacDonald, and Ida and her husband Willie MacKenzie, all of PEI. Carolyn will be fondly remembered by her extended family and extensive circle of friends, including those from her many years at Brampton Transit, and more recently, from Brampton Fire Department and the Kleinburg Art Rehabilitation Group. LOWELL -- Roland A. Rivard, 78, a longtime resident of the Pawtucketville section of Lowell, who worked at a local air force base for more than three decades and was a Korean War veteran, died yesterday morning, Dec. 3, at his home. He was the beloved husband of Pearl J. (Duchesne) Rivard, with whom he celebrated their 50th anniversary, Sept. 3.He was born in Franklin, Mass., Oct. 5, 1927, son of the late Joseph and Antoinette (Rivard) Rivard. He was educated at the former Notre Dame de Lourdes Elementary School and St. Joseph High School.He was an Air Force Veteran of the Korean War having served in Japan, receiving the Korean Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and the United Nations Service Medal and was honorably discharged on July 8, 1952.Mr. Rivard was a member of the former Ste. Jeanne d'Arc Church and more recently a communicant of Ste. Marguerite D'Youville Parish.Before retiring in 1983, Mr. Rivard had been in charge of the Entomology Department for 35 years at the Hanscom Air Force Base in Bedford.Mr. Rivard was a member of the Franco American Veterans Post #4 having served as Adjutant, the V.F.W. Walker Rogers Post 662, and a past member of the Franco-American Day Committee and the Dracut Knights of Columbus.Mr. Rivard enjoyed playing cribbage at the Lowell Senior Citizens Center.He will be remembered for bringing joy to many people and always having a joke to tell.Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, David E. Rivard and Robert A. Ougoorlian of Boston and Daniel R. John Alexander Anderson March 20, 1921 - November 28, 2005 Funeral arrangements by Chapel Lawn Funeral Home Peacefully on Monday, November 28, 2005 with his beloved daughter Elaine at his side, John Alexander Anderson passed away at the age of 84. Dad was born in Winnipeg on March 20, 1921. The son of Alexander and Mary (McIntyre) Anderson, who had recently immigrated from Scotland. He was very proud of his Scottish heritage. On August 28, 1940 at the age of 19, he enlisted in the Canadian Army and was assigned as a gunner to the 15th Light Anti-Aircraft Battery, 2nd Canadian Infantry Division. He initially trained in Winnipeg and was sent overseas in the fall of that year. He was stationed in several towns in southern England to defend the coastline from aerial attack. It was common for them to change locations every 3 months to prevent them from becoming “too friendly” with the local civilians. One month after the Normandy Invasion, his Division was deployed to France and took part in battle around Caen and Falaise. Following Germany’s surrender his regiment remained on occupation duty in Germany until July 1945 at which time they were deployed to Holland. His unit was disbanded in October 1945 and he returned to civilian life in Canada. Upon his return to Canada he worked for 2 years at Eatons as a salesman in the shoe department and then went to work at the Post Office in 1947. It was at Eatons where he met the love of his life, Winnifrid (Winn) Lees. Dad and Mom were married on June 25, 1949 and celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary this year. In 1977, Dad retired from the Post Office after completing 30 years of service. Dad and Mom then moved to Gimli, Manitoba where they both enjoyed retirement living for 21 years. It was in Gimli where Dad discovered his love of gardening, a hobby that kept him very busy for many months of the year. Retirement also gave him an opportunity to travel and he enjoyed many trips to places such as England, Scotland, the eastern and southern U.S. states, and most provinces in Canada. His other leisure activities included golf, curling, fishing, reading, endless crossword puzzles and playing cards; especially cribbage. Dad was very active with the Royal Canadian Legion with memberships at the Duke of Kent branch and the Gimli branch. Dad served the legion in a variety of positions including President of the Gimli Branch. Dad was also a member of the Viking Masonic Lodge. For health reasons, Dad and Mom returned to Winnipeg in 1998 and following several strokes, Dad recently moved into the Deer Lodge centre. Dad was renowned and loved for his quick wit and subtle sense of humour. As a “kid’ in the Canadian Army, we are told his sense of adventure and love of practical jokes caused no end of concern for his NCOs. Even in his final days it was not uncommon for a new nurse or caregiver to walk away laughing from an encounter with Dad. Dad cherished the many friends he had and was grateful for the time spent with both them and his family. We appreciate the wonderful care he received from the staff at both the Beacon Hill Lodge and Tower 4 of the Deer Lodge Centre and would like to express to them our heartfelt thanks. Dad was predeceased by his parents and by his beloved sister, Helen Boulay. He is survived by his wife Winn; daughter Linda, son-in-law David and grandson Taylor Ash of Winnipeg; daughter Elaine Anderson and grandson Ryan Reeve of Winnipeg; son Lorne, daughter-in-law Carol and granddaughters Alexandra and Micaela Anderson of Langley, B.C. In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place. A private family service will be held today in Winnipeg. If friends so desire, donations in his memory may be made to the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation. “The years may wipe out many things. But this they wipe out never. The memory of those happy days. When we were all together.” May God bless you Dad and “Stand Sure”.

HUDSON FALLS- Viola (Mondoux) Leroux Penders, 91, beloved mother, grandmother, aunt and friend, formerly of Notre Dame Street, and most recently of the Fort Hudson Health Care Facility in Fort Edward, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on Friday, Dec. 2, 2005, at Glens Falls Hospital. Born on March 17, 1914, in Glens Falls, she was the daughter of the late Antoine and Adeline (Benson) Mondoux. Viola was employed at Troy Shirt Guild in Glens Falls for many years. She was a communicant of St. Mary's/St. Paul's Church in Hudson Falls and a lifelong member of St. Anne's Sodality of that parish. Viola was a charter member of the Order of the Eagles Auxiliary of Glens Falls, a member of the AARP and a member of the Hudson Falls-Fort Edward Senior Citizens. She was a well-known chaplain in many organizations. Viola's life was filled with faith, hope, love and charity, which touched the lives of all who knew her. She leaves a void, which will never be filled. Viola was predeceased by her husbands, Arthur J. Leroux, who passed away in November 1970 and James Kenneth Penders, who passed away in December of 1997. Her seven brothers: Joseph Mondoux, Adolphus "Bido" Mondoux, William Mondoux, Henry Mondoux, Alphonse "Shorty" Mondoux, Arthur Mondoux and Albert Mondoux; and five sisters: Edith Hart, Elizabeth Hart, Alma LaBelle Manier, Nellie Columb Penders and Louise Toomey, also passed away before her. Survivors include her daughter, Nancy Moulton and her husband, John, of Queensbury; a son, John A. Leroux of Hudson Falls; six grandchildren: Kevin Moulton and his wife, Tracey, and their children, Liam and Mikayla, of Gansevoort, Beth Ann Single and her husband, Stephen, and their children, Matthew, Michael and Colleen of Orange Park, Fla., Mark Moulton and his daughter, Erica, of Queensbury, David Moulton and his wife, Amy, and their children, Christine and Stephen of Hudson Falls, Michelle Hammond and her husband, Thomas, and their children, Elizabeth, John and Katherine, of Rome and Nicole Payant and her husband, Chris, and their son, Zachary of Saratoga; and several nieces and nephews. She later worked doing cleaning for Diaz Corp. and A & V Construction in Jay.Throughout her life, Elizabeth was a devoted communicant of St. Rose of Lima Church, a member of St. Mary's Rosary Sodality, Riley, and also a member of the Living Rosary of Our Lady of Grace Shrine in Colebrook, N.H.She enjoyed gardening and canning, picking blueberries and apples, traveling, cooking and had a particular fondness for telling stories.She especially loved the time she spent with her family. Richard “Dick” Paradis, 64, passed away December 2, 2005 in Jacksonville, Florida. He was born in Springfield, Massachusetts and grew up in Maine, where he graduated from Maine Central Institute and attended St. Frances College. He moved to Jacksonville 3 Ú years ago from Jasper, Texas where he was a long time resident. Mr. Paradis was a long time employee at Sam Rayburn Country Club in Sam Rayburn, Texas and former owner of Captain John's Cove Marina in Toledo Bend, Texas. He served in the U.S. Air Force. Mr. Paradis was an avid golfer and fisherman, and was a skilled craftsman. He was predeceased by his parents, Romeo and Ruth Paradis. Survivors include his wife, Caroline Steinmeyer; daughter, Susan Luchtman; two sons, Richard “Rick” Paradis, Jr. (Kristen) and James J. Paradis (Jaime); and three grandchildren, Daniel, Ashley and William. PORTLAND -- Marian Louise Savard, 98, of Portland, died Friday, Dec. 2, 2005 at the Barron Center. She was born on Aug. 25, 1907 in Benedicta, a daughter of Lewis and Flora (McDonald) Qualey; she graduated from St. Benedict’s High School and Aroostook Normal School at Presque Isle. After teaching for a short time she decided to make a change. She and her cousin went to Boston and worked for Jordan Marsh until she was hired as a governess for the two children of artist Elliot O’Hara of Ogunquit, spending summers in Maine and winters in Washington, D.C. She recalled Mrs. O’Hara having Amelia Earhart, a relative, for tea shortly before her fatal flight. When the O’Hara children were ready for higher education she came back to Portland and entered nurses training at the Queen’s Hospital, now Mercy Hospital where she worked for many years. After receiving her R.N. in 1938, she did private duty nursing and went to North Conway to work with an injured skier. It was at this time that she met her husband, Lorenzo. They were married at St BenedictÕs Church in Benedicta and moved from North Conway to Portland in February 1942 where she lived until August of this year. She was a member of Mercy Hospital Nurses Alumni and was celebrated with her classmates for 65 year in 2003. Marian was a member of St. Patrick’s Church and the women’s council and was involved in a variety of activities at her children’s schools. Her husband died in August 1963 and her elder son died in May 1965. She was also predeceased by two sisters, Gertrude Conant and Sr. Luanus Qualey and one brother, Louis Qualey. She is survived by a son, Louis and his wife, Loretta; three daughters, Marie Solak and her husband Michael, Anne LeTourneau and her husband Edmund, Jeanne Silverman and her husband, Stephen; also survived by eight grandchildren, Michael and Lisa Savard, Christine Hamm, Michele LeTourneau, Elizabeth, William and Michael Solak, Aaron Silverman; and seven great- grandchildren; four sisters, Theresa Hansen of Bangor, Rita Qualey and Christine Heskett, both of Portland, and Bernadette Hunt of California; a brother, Albert Qualey and wife Rowena of Benedicta. Visiting hours will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., on Monday, Dec. 5 at Conroy-Tully Crawford Funeral Home, 172 State Street, Portland. Prayers will be recited at 10:15 a.m., Tuesday at the funeral home, followed by an 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. PatrickÕs Church, 1342 Congress Street, Portland. DUFRESNE, DORIS M. (LOON), beloved wife, mother, grandmother, died Dec. 2 at Rhode Island Hospital after a long illness. She was the wife of Raymond L. Dufresne.Known lovingly by family and friends as 'Bijou' (French for 'Jewel'), she was born on Sept. 16, 1930, in Woonsocket, the youngest child of Harry and Ophelia (Thibeault) Loon. She and her husband were married on July 9, 1949, and the couple celebrated their 50th anniversary in 1999. They lived at Kennedy Manor on Clinton Street.Beside her husband, she is survived by two sons, Marcel Dufresne of Old Mystic, CT, and Raymond M. Dufresne of Methuen, MA; three daughters, Claire Dufresne of Bellingham, MA, Nancy Dufresne of Pawtucket, R.I., and Donna Vescera of Woonsocket; and four grandchildren.A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, Dec. 6, at 10:30 a.m. in Saint Joseph Church, Mendon Rd, Woonsocket. The funeral will begin at 9:30 a.m. at the T. Lauzon Funeral Home, 185 Spring St., Woonsocket. Burial to follow at St. Jean the Baptist Cemetery, Bellingham, MA. Rose “Little Rose” (Belisle) Cote Gignac, 90, of 111 Borden St., Fall River, died Saturday, December 3, 2005 at Charlton Memorial Hospital. She was the wife of the late Adrien Cote. Born in Fall River, the daughter of the late Eugene and Marie Anne (Joubert) Belisle, she lived in Westport for many years. She enjoyed singing and playing the piano. Survivors include a son, Roger E. Cote and his wife Yvonne of Assonet; a daughter, Arlene Linda Kestler of Fall River; a brother, Wilfred Belisle of Fall River; a sister, Irene Cournoyer of Fall River; 7 grandchildren, David and Devon Kestler, Michael, Alan and Carl Cote, Lisa Kaitz and Marc Coulombe; a godchild, Claire Belisle; great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. She was the mother of the late Jeanne Coulombe-Canole and Gerard Cote and the sister of the late Eugene Belisle, Laura Rusin and Diana Chabot. Her funeral will be held Monday at 8:30 AM from the AUCLAIR FUNERAL HOME, 690 So. Main St., Fall River, with a funeral mass in St. Mary Cathedral at 9:00. Entombment, Notre Dame Cemetery Mausoleum. Hortense Abadie LaCava, on Tuesday, November 29, 2005. She is the beloved wife of the late Jimmy Perrin LaCava; mother of James R. LaCava and Sheila LaCava Rabb; sister of Bernard Abadie, Jr. and the late Alida Abadie Gennusa. She is survived by five grandchildren, Rick, Victor and James LaCava, Robert Rabb and Rebecca Rabb Bonis. She is also survived by six great-grandchildren, Joycelyn, Anthony, Perrin, Rick and Olivia LaCava, Reese Rabb and a host of nieces and nephews. Age 89, a native and life resident of New Orleans. KIER, James E. July 11, 1931 - November 30, 2005 OGDEN - A truly golden heart stopped beating when James E. Kier passed away on November 30, 2005 at age 74. He was surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with non-hodgkins lymphoma. He was born July 11, 1931 in Ottawa, Canada to Dorothy Kier. He was raised by his dear grandmother, Jeannie Beatty Kier, and upon her passing was fostered by several loving families. Jim was educated in Britannia and Ottawa and attended Oakwood Collegiate in Toronto. He perused his love of learning through his own personal extensive libraries, educational courses and seminars. Jim had many different occupations early in life from lifeguard to shoe salesman to working on the pipeline in the Northwest Territories. Jim made construction, development and property management his life long passion. Jim met the love of his life, Norma Ann Jessiman, in Ottawa and they were married on September 1, 1956 in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. After working as a construction superintendent from an American construction company in Edmonton, Alberta he transferred to Ogden, Utah nearly 50 years ago. He began making his mark in Ogden in 1961 after obtaining his general contractor's license when he, along with his wife, Norma, established Kier Construction. By 1972, the company was well known for constructing single and multi-family housing as well as commercial properties. Jim's greatest source of pride and precious accomplishment came from his bond with family and friends. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, loyal friend and generous man. He enjoyed fishing, especially in British Columbia, where he also loved sailing on his beloved sailboat "The Highlander". He is best remembered for his hard work, strong commitment to others, humble heart and easy going personality. He was very proud of his Canadian and Scottish Heritage and instilled that into his family. Over the years, he has supported many local charities, including the Children's Justice Center, the Christmas Box House, YCC, St. Anne's, the Red Cross, the Ogden Rescue Mission, many divisions of the Ogden Police Department, West Ogden Community Action Center, Marion Hotel Neighborhood Community Center, Missing Children, Choice Humanitarian and Weber State University. He was also an active member of the Trinity Presbyterian Church. Jim served on various committees with the local home builders associations, and was a Life Director for the National Association of Home Builders focusing his efforts in the National Council on Senior's Housing, National Multi-Housing Council, Urban Revitalization and Multi-Family Housing Committees. He also served on the Governor's Affordable Housing Committee, the Federal Home Loan Bank Advisory Council, the Key Bank Advisory Board, National Historical Preservation Award for the Eccles Home and most recently served on the Advisory Council for Ascend Alliance and Weber State University. He was also involved in several Republican committees, and helped fundraise for many campaigns from local state Senators to Governors and United States Congressman and Senators. During the last courageous year of Jim's battle, he received two life time achievement awards from the Affordable Housing Management Association and National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials. To add to his unbelievable nobility he received a prestigious and well deserved honor of having a senior housing complex named after him, by Utah Non Profit Housing Corporation, "The James E. Kier Apartments" in Salt Lake City. James E. Kier was a Giant of a man, truly one of a kind, and he will be missed by many. He is survived by his loving wife, Norma; two sons, Steve (Tammy) Kier and Scott (Lora) Kier of South Ogden; and three daughters, Bonnie Kier-Herrick (Steve Herrick), Kimi Kier-Noar (Patrick Noar) of South Ogden, and Kara Kier-Goering (Brant W. Goering) of Oregon. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and one on the way. My Dearest Jim, I will be missing you and loving you until we meet again. You are on a special journey now although you promised to wait for me. We were soul mates and raised five wonderful children together, founded three companies and could handle just about anything life handed us. I am a better person from loving you, knowing you, and having been loved by you. I will love you forever and always until we meet again. Bengt was predeceased by his wife Mary (2001) and his daughter Arlene (1999). Ernest John Gaudet, 85, a native of Raceland and resident of Metairie, died at 2:24 a.m. Friday, Dec. 2, 2005.Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to funeral time Tuesday at St. Mary’s Nativity Catholic Church. SAN DIEGO -- Christine Marie Audet Verdon, 96, of San Diego died Sept. 16, 2005. She was born Oct. 19, 1908, in Waterville, Maine, and lived most of her married life in San Diego. She was a homemaker. Survivors include her sons, Richard Verdon of Redlands, Joseph Verdon of Jamul and Gregory Verdon of El Cajon; sister Constance Hallee of Ocala, Fla.; brother Elie Audet of Waterville; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. She had many nieces and nephews in the Waterville area, including Rebecca Sherwood of Oakland, Maine, Greg Hallee of Augusta, Maine, Steve Hallee of Searsport, Maine, and Tampa, Fla., Tim Hallee of Fairfield, Maine, Lisa Hallee of Oakland, and Bridget Hallee Campbell of Winslow, Maine, to whom she was also godmother.A Mass was held at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 4177 Marlboro St., San Diego. Giroir, Alvin L. "Lee" Alvin L. "Lee" Giroir, 62, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 3, 2005, at his home in Denham Springs. He was employed by CDI Engineering as a senior designer. He was also the owner of ADL Construction with his wife, Dianne, and a member of Capital Area Homebuilders Association. He was also a member of Healing Place Church. Lee also served his country in the U.S. Navy. Visitation will be at Seale Funeral Home, Denham Springs, on Sunday, Dec. 4, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Monday, Dec. 5, from 9 a.m. until religious service at 10 a.m., officiated by Dino Rizzo and Ken Spivey. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Dianne Wood Giroir; two daughters and sons-in-law, Cynthia Giroir Verdin and husband Randy and Stephanie Giroir Baker and husband David; son, A. Lee Giroir Jr.; four grandchildren, Taylor Giroir, Emilee Jones and Dustin and Ashton Baker; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Patricia and Louis Gill, Connie Alvarado, and Toni and Bobby Guy; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin and Genevieve Hicks Giroir. The pallbearers will be Frank Ducos, Andre Ortis, Chad Granger, Oscar Alvarado, Frank Mejia and E.J. Coupel. Ruth Priscilla Sanford (née Card) June 22, 1936 - December 04, 2005 Funeral arrangements by Lindsay's Windsor Funeral Home * SANFORD……Ruth Priscilla, age 69, of Centre Burlington, Hants County, passed away on Sunday, December 4, 2005, at the Hants Community Hospital, Windsor. Born on June 22, 1936, in Centre Burlington, Nova Scotia, she was a daughter of the late Stuart and Lulu (Dodge) Card. Ruth married her husband Donald in 1956, and spent the next sixteen years, lovingly raising her five boys. In 1973, she went to work at the Metropolitan Store, in the Windsor Mall, where she worked for 10 years. She then became a fulltime nanny for her grandchildren and ended her working life helping her son at Sanford’s Takeout. Sunday was her favorite day, as she spent time cooking for and fussing over her children and their families. She ended the day happily yelling “Bingo” at the local hall. Ruth had a great love of country music and enjoyed traveling with her sisters to country jamborees. She will be dearly missed by all her family and friends. She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Donald Clyde Sanford; her children, Diane (Clyde) Hood, Windsor; Douglas (Donna), Centre Burlington; Wade (Printhie) Union Corner; Randy (Laura), Centre Burlington; Blair (Deborah), Bridgewater; Timothy (Tanya), Lr. Sackville; 17 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren; sisters, Shirley (Ray) Gould, Sweets Corner; Sandra Slauenwhite, Lr. Burlington; Patricia Davidson, Windsor; several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by a brother, Lawrence in infancy; brothers-in-law, Kenneth Slauenwhite and Robert Davidson. Cremation has taken place.
