D. M. "Tod" Thurston October 30, 1925 - December 02, 2005 Funeral arrangements by Desjardins Funeral Chapel On December 2, 2005, our jubilant “Toddy” peacefully passed away at the age of 80, leaving memories of a proud man who deeply loved and truly enjoyed the fun things in life. Tod is survived by Irene, his wife of 53 years, and his five children: Cyd (Terry), Craig, Nancy (Ken), Donna (Bill) and Brent, as well as four grandchildren: Julien (Lori), Tanis, Michael and Josie, and one great-grandchild, Téa. Tod had a zest for life that he loved to share with his family and many friends. He and Irene would light up the room with their swinging duets, and tire out the grandkids with their dancing. Tod was a navy veteran, a professional hockey player and an accomplished businessman. He played hockey with England’s Wembley Lions, various North American semi-pro teams, and the Manitoba Oldtimers. In 1990, he retired his business, Todston Enterprises Ltd., which imported and distributed many major wine and spirit brands. His competitive spirit remains, and is best exemplified in the way he lived each day to the fullest. We will miss you Toddy. Stephanie Rankel (née Refchuk) June 09, 1917 - December 01, 2005 Funeral arrangements by Glen Eden Funeral Home (Winnipeg) Peacefully on December 1, 2005, Stephanie Rankel passed away at Concordia Hospital. She is survived by husband Fred, daughter Cathy (Jerry) Afoon, step grandchildren Brandy and Sean Afoon (Colleen Beach), sisters Violet Rebiffe and Anne Lasota. Her parents Michael and Catharina Refchuk, sister Vicky Brownstein, brothers Rudolph and Ben Refchuk predeceased her. Mom and Dad met in 1950 and shortly thereafter they married and had a daughter Cathy. Mom had lived in Winnipeg all her life. She never cared for traveling but took pleasure in taking trips with Dad to the cottage to enjoy the birds and chipmunks. Mom was also fond of going to the Casino with Cathy and Jerry. She enjoyed cooking, her specialty was holubchi and perogies. Mom loved gardening and took pride in caring for her begonias on Toronto Street. After living on Toronto Street for over 40 years, Mom and Dad decided to move next to their family in East Kildonan. Private family service will be held on Monday December 5, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home. Interment at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. Millie was a lifetime homemaker whose greatest gift was doing for others. Her passing leaves an unfillable void in the lives of her family and friends. Jeanne Marie Bibeau Sardina, 71, of Chandler, AZ, passed away December 2, 2005 surrounded by her family. Jeanne was born December 13, 1933 in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin to Leo and Kathleen Bibeau. She married Joseph Sardina in Milwaukee, WI. She taught school with the Sisters of Notre Dame and the public schools in Milwaukee and the Kyrene District. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, 2 sisters and 3 brothers. Survivors include her daughter, Joelle Sardina; 3 step-daughters, Jacqualine (Chuck) Alioto, Maxine (Joe) Morgan and Patricia (Gene) Hackett; her sister, Vonni (Garth) Jensen of Milwaukee; brother, David Bibeau of Boise, ID; 9 grandchildren and 2 great-grand-children. William M. "Bill" Cauchon, age 43, entered into peaceful rest on Friday, December 2, 2005, at the Hospital of St. Raphael, New Haven. William was born on August 30, 1962 in Derby, beloved son of Mary (Powers) Cauchon of Seymour and the late Eugene Cauchon. Bill was a Seymour resident for most of his life, formerly residing in Thomaston. He was employed as a tool maker at the Harvey Hubbell Company, Newtown for the past 25 years. Bill?s hobbies included golf, water skiing and riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle. Bill will be remembered as a best friend to all who knew him and especially for being a great father to his daughters. Besides his mother, William leaves his loving family including two daughters, Dana and Kelly Cauchon, both of Weare, N.H.; four brothers, Eugene Cauchon of Comano Island, Wash., Alan Cauchon of Shelton, Wayne Cauchon of Oxford and Laurence Cauchon of Seymour; two sisters, Mary Collon of Seymour and Debra Lindstrum of Southbury; several aunts; and cousins. HOLDEN— Henry L. Cournoyer, 79, of 315 Mason Road in the Jefferson section of Holden, died Friday, December 2, 2005, in St. Vincent Hospital after an illness. He leaves his brother, Bernard T. Cournoyer of Holden; three sisters, Permelia J. Henrickson, Loretta D. Ballotte and Bernice T. Faneuf all of Holden; many nephews and nieces. Three brothers, Alfred "Fred" Cournoyer, Leonard J. Cournoyer and Raphael "Ralph" A. Cournoyer, predeceased him. He was born on August 15, 1926 in his home on 219 Bullard Street, Holden, son of Hector M. and Lea Josephine (Berard) Cournoyer, and has lived in Holden his entire life. Mr. Cournoyer was a Navy veteran of World War II serving on the U.S.S. Wisconsin in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre, where he was awarded 6 stars. He also served in the Merchant Marines and worked for Pullman Standard Co. in Worcester. Mr. Cournoyer was the Town of Holden Building Commissioner for many years. LOWELL -- Blanche C. (Courtois) Lafleur, 92, a lifelong resident of Lowell, who worked at a former dress company in the city, died Thursday, Dec. 1, at the Fairhaven Nursing Home in Lowell. She was the wife of the late Arthur Lafleur.She was born in Lowell, Feb. 23, 1913, daughter of the late Napoleon and Cora (Hebert) Courtois. She devoted her life to her family and friends and will be sadly missed. MANCHESTER, N.H.-- Francis X. Demers, 68, of Manchester died Dec. 1, 2005 at Catholic Medical Center following a period of declining health. Mr. Demers was born on Sept. 8, 1937 in Lynn, Mass., the son of the late George and Marie (LaFrance) Demers. Fran was raised in Lynn, Mass., and moved to Manchester, N.H., where he enjoyed several years of employment by Dunfey Family Hotels. Subsequently Fran made a career move to Treadway Inns in Chicopee, Mass., where he became director of sales. Later, Fran relocated himself to Gray, where together, he and Alice (Welch) Demers, who were married for 17 years, established the Barn of 26 Antiques in 1977. Fran worked as director of sales at Holiday Inn by the Bay, and subsequently at Ascutney Mountain Resort in Ascutney, Vt. He later had a brief period of employment with Howard Johnson's Hotel in South Portland. Fran moved back to the Manchester, N.H., in 2001 where his lived until his passing. Selling and his love of antiques kept Fran busy and on the road. He was the consummate salesman and enjoyed every opportunity to meet new people. His career in sales allowed him to travel and meet many personalities, and he enjoyed telling stories about those people he met along the way. His family members and friends will surely miss him. There will be no service. Burial will be in the family lot of St. Jean de Baptiste Cemetery in Lynn, Mass., at a later date.

SPRINGFIELD - Rita M. Nolin, 85, formerly of Manchester Terrace, Springfield died Friday in Mount St. Vincent Nursing Home, Holyoke. Rita was a retired social worker for Goodwill Industries in Springfield. Born in Holyoke on November 4, 1920 she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Ann Nolin and has resided in Springfield most of her life. Rita is survived by several nieces and nephews. David R. (Sid) Poquette, 66, passed away on December 2, 2005. Sid was born on May 21, 1939 in Iowa. Anne B. (Rec) DuPont, 92, passed away on Saturday, (December 3, 2005) at Brittany Farms Health Care Center in New Britain. Born in the Three Rivers Section of Palmer, MA, on April 13, 1913, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Josephine (Minor) Rec. She had lived most of her life in West Hartford where she was a communicant of St. Mark the Evangelist Church, and settled to New Britain ten years ago. Prior to her retirement, she was employed as an inspector with Holo Krome of West Hartford for 28 years. Besides her parents, Mrs. DuPont was predeceased by her husband, Theodore R. Dupont in 1987. She is survived by her loving children, Michael D. DuPont of Seattle, WA, and Lorraine A. Mancarella of New Britain; a brother, William Rec; a sister, Sadie Nevins both of Norwich; her cherished grandchildren, Lisa Crawford with her husband William, Brent Mancarella, Joy DuPont, Elizabeth Aldridge with her husband Tyler; and a beloved great granddaughter, Sage Mancarella. CROSSWAY, Antoinette F. Roberts, 75 of Zephyrhills, formerly of Newington, Conn., and beloved wife of 54 years to Francis Bud Crossway, passed away Friday, December 2, 2005 at the East Pasco Medical Center in Zephyrhills. Toni was born September 15, 1930 in Moosup, Conn. daughter of Yvonne Berger Roberts and Wilfred J. Roberts. She graduated from Plainfield High School. She married Francis Bud Crossway on January 20, 1951; they lived in Newington, Conn. for 30 years where Toni was employed by the Loctite Corp. as a buyer for 21 years. After retirement, Toni and Bud enjoyed traveling to 49 states in their motor home and taking cruises. They have lived in Zephyrhills for 18 years and have made a new circle of cherished friends whom they treat as family. Toni enjoyed playing scrabble, cards and especially Bingo. In her later years she also learned to paint. She was a strong woman with a good heart and a positive attitude, and she knew how to hug! Toni will be sadly missed by her husband Bud, so n and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Patricia Crossway of Colchester, Conn.,; daughter, Gail and son-in-law Kevin McDonnell of Hebron, Conn.; and son, Mark Crossway of Kensington, Conn.; along with all her grandchildren, Erin, Kathryn and Walter Crossway, and Laura and Kevin McDonnell, and also her nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind one brother, Ernest Roberts of Moosup, and was predeceased by her brothers and sisters, Arthur Roberts, Wilfred Robertsm Helen Goyette and Cecil Conkle. EAST MESA, Ariz.—Richard J. Roy, Sr. passed away suddenly on Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2005, at his residence in East Mesa. He was the son of the late Ernest J. Roy, of Berwick, Maine and Annette G. Catino, of New Hampshire.He served four years in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Intrepid. Albert J. Simard -- Albert was born in Montreal, Canada Oct 4th 1928 to Raymond and Katherine Simard. He was one of six brothers, Raymond, Harney, Arthur, Paul, Gene and Albert. He was a sweet tempered man, always kind to everyone he met. His early years were spent in Montreal with his parents and brothers. He attended St. Leo's Academy and Loyola College. He became noted for his speed on the cinder track, establishing records in 880 yard dash. He won the coveted Father Records Aggregate Trophy. He later joined his parents in California, along with his brother Harney. He volunteered for the US Army and served several years. While in California, he met the love of his life, Lucille Dunn of Quebec, Canada and were married for 40 years, until she died 1999. Their love for each other was unmatched. Albert lived in Upland for many years, where enjoyed the company of many friends. He is survived by his brothers, Harney Simard and his wife, J ulie of Lakeside California and Gene Simard and his wife Nan, of Seattle, WA, as well as many nieces and nephews and cousins. PALMER – Vera P. (Sypek) Renaud, 85, of the Village of Three Rivers in Palmer was Called Safely Home on Thursday, December 1, 2005. She was born and raised in the Village of Bondsville on October 31, 1920 a beloved daughter of the late Joseph and Jadwiga (Chrapek) Sypek. She was a graduate of Palmer High School and moved to the Village of Three Rivers in 1947. She was last employed by the Monson Developmental Center and retired in 1980. She previously worked for the former Three Rivers Industries. She was a communicant of Saint Anne Church in Three Rivers and a member of the Ladies of Saint Anne Sodality of the Church. She enjoyed quilting and making afghans for her family and her many close friends. Her beloved husband, Leopold J. "Paul" Renaud was Called Home on September 26, 1993. She leaves her loving children, Anne P. Houle of Springfield and William O. Renaud and his wife Theresa of Spring Valley, CA. Her two cherished grandchildren, Matthew and Erin Renaud, both of Spring Valley, CA. Her dear sisters, Statia Luszcz and her husband Charles of Brimfield and her twin, Helen H. Ligus and her husband John of Bondsville. Her dear sister-in-law, Reggie Flaherty of Three Rivers and her many dear nephews and nieces.
