He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran and a member of the Thomas O. Cyr Legion Post No. 147 of Madawaska. Bertha Mae Lanctot, 101, of Auburn died June 23, 2005 at Hanover Hill Nursing Home in Manchester following a brief illness. Bertha was born in Gray, Maine the daughter of the late William and Esther (Tetro) Beede. She grew up in Bedford and attended the Peter Woodbury School. At the age of 16 Bertha learned the craft of invisible mending. She quickly mastered the art and eventually retired as a supervisor from Amoskeag Mills at the age of 62. In her earlier years, she enjoyed horseback riding and traveling, visiting her family in Canada as well as other cross country trips. For a brief period, Bertha did some modeling at Pariseau’s before raising her six children in the Manchester area. She and her late husband enjoyed ballroom dancing. She loved to quilt and do arts and crafts and crocheted many beautiful afghans for her family as well as for the babies at the Elliot Hospital. Bertha was a loving homemaker, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Her husband, Joseph A. Lanctot, Sr. who died in 1985, predeceased her.IN HER LIFE: A son, Roger Lanctot who died in 1984, predeceased her, as well as a granddaughter, Lori Baird who passed away in 1985.Family members include; two sons, Joseph Lanctot of Weare and Raymond Lanctot of Sun Lakes, Florida; three daughters, Constance Fitzwater of Manchester, Gloria Dupuis of Suncook and Jacqueline Vercauteren of Phoenix, AZ; 21 grandchildren; 38 great grandchildren; five nieces and one nephew.Calling hours will be Sunday, June 26th from 2:00 until 4:00 PM and 7:00 until 9:00 PM at Phaneuf Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 243 Hanover Street. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday morning at 10:00 AM at St. Peter Church on Manchester Street in Auburn. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

HAMPDEN - Gerald P. Tardif, 74, formerly of Sabattus, died Thursday, June 23, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Bangor, surrounded by his loving family after a long courageous battle with Parkinson's Disease.He was born in Auburn, Dec. 13, 1930, a son of Donat and Beatrice Charest Tardif, and was educated in Auburn schools. He graduated from Edward Little High School in the Class of 1950.He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War and was a member of the American Legion Sabattus Post 135.He was the founder and coach of the Lisbon American Legion Baseball. He was on the class reunion committee of Edward Little High School, Class of 1950. He participated in the Parkinsons support group in Augusta.He was a member of Our Lady of the Rosary Parish in Sabattus and worked at Webber Oil Co. for many years prior to his retirement in 1988.He loved spending time with his family, his dogs and horses.He enjoyed playing cards, Red Sox, traveling, telling stories and jokes. He also enjoyed watching his kids and grandchildren play sports.He married the former Mary Ann Trepanier-Goulet on March 3, 1951.He is survived by his wife of Hampden; three daughters, Nancy Toothaker and her husband, Greg, of Sabattus, Nadine Wheeler and her husband, Billy, of Hartland, and Nannette of Poland; three sons, Dana and wife, Debra, of Hampden, Denis and wife, Juanita, of Waverly, Tenn., and Donald of Cheyenne, Wyo.; 10 grandchildren, Ben Laprise, Michael Tardif, Tracey Laprise, Scott Tardif, Dee Tardif, Sean Tardif, Alex Farrington, Sara Tardif, Kali Tardif, and Julia Levinson; three great-grandchildren, Cody, Ariana, Gabriel; sisters, Gertrude Fournier of Connecticut, Rejeanne and Lionel Chiasson of Flordia; brother, Donatien "Jack" and Lucienne Tardif of Lewiston.He was predeceased by sister, Vivian Tardif.

PORTLAND, Maine - Robert L. DesJardins passed away on Sunday, June 19, 2005.He was born in Wallingford on Nov. 24, 1931, the son of Violet White DesJardins and the late Leopold DesJardins. He was a former member of the Knights of Columbus Elder Council #69.
