SOUTH DENNIS - George E. Carle Jr., 89, of South Dennis and Derby, Conn., died Sunday at Cape Cod Hospital, Hyannis. He was the husband of Doris Smith Carle for 63 years. Mr. Carle was born in Ansonia, Conn., and graduated in 1934 from Ansonia High School, where he was co-captain of the football team. He was inducted into the school's Gridiron Club Hall of Fame in 1994. After graduating from New Haven College in 1942, he was an engineer at the Farrel Corp. for 40 years, retiring in 1981. He was a member of the Farrel Old Timers Club, Legion of Mary and Knights of Columbus. He served as trustee for St. Mary's Church of Derby in the 1950s and '60s and was a communicant of Holy Infant Church of Orange, Conn. He loved golfing at Brownson Country Club and on Cape Cod, and enjoyed spending summers on the Cape with his family. Besides his wife, survivors include a son, Richard Carle of Bedford; three daughters, Maureen Quake and Regina Fischer, both of Orange, Conn., and Patricia Grele of Milford, Conn.; a brother, Edward Franklin Carle of Milford, Conn.; a sister, Theresa Carle Ventre of Ansonia, Conn.; seven Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. tomorrow at Jenkins-King Funeral Home, 12 Franklin St., Ansonia, Conn. Services will be at 8:45 a.m. from the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. at Holy Infant Church of Orange, Conn., followed by burial in Mount St. Peter Cemetery, Derby, Conn. SCARBOROUGH - Dorothy Ann Coleman Manseau, 70, passed away after a 13-year battle with multiple myeloma on May 22, 2005.Born in Medford, Mass., to James and Dorothy (Downey) Coleman, she attended St. Joseph's High School in Manchester, N.H. She attended Framingham State Teachers College for two years and transferred to U.N.H., where she received her B.S. in Clothing and Textiles. She married Henry Manseau of Gardner, Mass., in 1956, and they had five children. Dorothy taught Family and Consumer Sciences for 28 years at Walsh Middle School in Framingham, Mass. Dorothy is survived by loving husband Henry; and children, Gerald, Christopher, Catherine, Thomas and their spouses; grandchildren Lindsay, Katlyn, Megan, Michael, Dominique, and Benjamin.She was predeceased by her infant son, Sean.A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Maximilian Kolbe Church at 150 Black Point Rd., Scarborough, at 11 a.m. on May 26. Guidry, Berlin Joseph "Jay" "I will lie down in peace and sleep, for you alone, O Lord, will keep me safe. Psalm 4:8. A loving husband, father, grandfather, son and brother, he never met a stranger and was a friend to all. A resident of Baton Rouge and a native of Lafayette, he died Sunday, May 22, 2005, as the result of a motorcycle accident. He was 62 and a U.S. Navy veteran. BROOKFIELD— Paul W. Langelier, Sr., 81, of Mechanic St., died on Sun. May 22 at St. Vincent Hospital in Worcester after a long illness. Paul leaves his wife of 36 years, Margaret A. (Seery) Langelier of Brookfield; a son Gary Langelier, 2 daughters: LuAnn Fregeau and Kathy Langelier - all of Florida; a stepson Philip Flannery, Jr. of Brookfield, a stepdaughter Sheila Fortier of Wales; 2 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Langelier is predeceased by his children: Paul Langelier, Jr., Linda Baldwin, Kevin and Brian Flannery, and 3 brothers and a sister. He was born and raised in Barre, the son of Joseph A. and Carrie (Tolman) Langelier, and lived in Brookfield for 36 years. He served in the Navy during WWII. Paul was a union laborer for Local 243 in Auburn for many years. He was also a core-maker for Charles Allen Foundry Co. in Barre, and for Rodney Hunt Foundry Co. in Orange. He was a member of St. Mary's Church. The funeral will be held on Wed. WINONA CLELAND TREMBLAY -- ALBURG SPRINGS, Vermont — Winona Cleland Tremblay, 81, a lifelong resident of the Alburg community, died early Sunday afternoon in the Haven Health Care Center in Saint Albans Town. Born at home in Alburg on January 2, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Mary (Goodsell) Cleland. She graduated from Saint Mary's High School in Champlain, New York and attended and graduated from the former Burlington Business College. On June 4, 1945, she was married to E. Omer Tremblay who survives her. In earlier years Winona was employed at the former Thermal Wire Company in South Hero and also for many years at the William Doolin Company in Saint Albans City. Prior to her illness she had been very active in the Alburg community and belonged to the Island in the Sun Senior Citizens, Alburg Library Association and many other civic and church organizations. In addition to her husband of nearly sixty years, E. Omer Tremblay, Winona leaves a daughter Joan Whitesell and her husband Ronald all of Alburg Springs; her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Andrew Tremblay and Clement Tremblay both of Alburg Springs, Philip Tremblay and his wife Sally of Colchester, Laura Tremblay of Alburg Springs, Roseanna Ouimette and Ernestine Cleland both of Alburg as well as several nieces and nephews. Winona was predeceased by three brothers, George, Robert and James Sr. Cleland. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, May 26, 2005, at 2 p.m. from the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Avenue, Swanton. Father Maurice U. Boucher, SSE will officiate. Interment will follow in the Tremblay family lot in Riverside Cemetery, Swanton. There will be no public calling hours. EGOFF, Sheila Agnes Officer of the Order of Canada Died on May 22, 2005 in her 88th year at Vancouver B.C. Born in Auburn, Maine, she grew up in Galt (now Cambridge) Ontario. Her lifelong career as a scholar and critic of children's literature, and pre-eminent promoter of Canadian children's literature in particular, began at the Galt Public Library. After graduating from the University of Toronto and qualifying as a librarian at the University of London (England), she worked at the Children's Room of the Toronto Public Libraries and with their Osborne Collection of Early Children's Books, where experience in serving the reading needs of contemporary children was balanced with learning about four centuries of writing, publishing, and illustrating books for children. After a short period on the staff of the Canadian Library Association, she was recruited to join the faculty of the School of Librarianship at the University of British Columbia soon after its establishment in 1961. By her retirement in 1983 as Professor Emerita, she had sent a generation of enthusiastic promoters of children's books and reading from Vancouver to libraries across Canada, in the United States, and elsewhere. They applied her rigorous message "only the best is good enough for children!" by writing children's books, storytelling, practising and administering children's services in public and school libraries, and contributing to the cultural life of their communities. Her own writing and editing include the books "The Republic of Childhood", "Thursday's Child", Worlds Within, Children's Periodicals of the 19th Century, "Only Connect", and two annotated catalogues of holdings in the Arkley Collection of Early and Historical Children's Literature which she attracted to the University of British Columbia Library; also articles, survey reports, and published speeches. Retirement did not stop the flow; her final book "My Life with Children's Books" will appear posthumously in a few months. In addition to the Order of Canada, her public honours include honorary doctorates from the Universities of Alberta, New Brunswick, and Victoria. Among many professional honours are the Award for Lifetime Achievement in Children's Literature Scholarship of the Children's Literature Association and the annual British Columbia Book Prize for Children's Literature which bears her name. Predeceased by her brother George and sister-in-law Luella, she is survived by their sons, her nephews John, Brian, and Christopher Egoff, and John's wife and children, all of Cambridge, Ontario. Donations to the scholarship already established in her name may be sent to the School of Library, Archival and Information Studies at The University of British Columbia. He was born in Sudbury and married Kimberly (Belleau) in Naughton in 2003. A life resident of Whitefish Lake First Nation, Trevor was a traditional drum maker. He will be remembered as a knowledgeable, friend and cultural native man who embraced the traditional ways of his first nation's people in dancing and drumming. Trevor was always quick to help others in cultural and community issues or needs. Beloved husband of Kimberly (Belleau) Ozawagosh of Whitefish Lake First Nation. Anthony J. Powers Anthony (Tony) Joseph Powers, 80, of Moncton passed away Sunday, May 22, 2005, after a brief illness. Born in Summerside, PEI, Tony was the son of the late Peter and Leona (Bernard) Powers. He was a vet of WWII, serving overseas with the RCA from 1942 to 1946. He then joined the RCAF for another 28 years until his retirement, at which time he sold real estate in the Moncton area until 1984. He was a charter member of Holy Family Parish and a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Moncton Branch #6. Tony will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 58 years, Emily (Gallant); daughters, Carol (Paul Weatherby), Mississauga, ON, Cathy and Sue both of Moncton; sons, Robert (Bob) (Muriel), Shediac Cape, Ed (Christine), Moncton, John (Linda), Riverview; grandchildren, Mike (Jill) Weatherby, Jennifer Weatherby both of Mississauga,ON, Stephanie Powers (J.J. Born in Providence, a daughter of the late Joseph and Ermine (Favreau) Couillard, she had been a Warwick resident since 1972.Mrs. Talacko had worked in the jewelry industry for many years. Mrs. Ira (Renia) Paye, 86, Dyckesville, died unexpectedly Saturday evening, May 21, 2005, at a local hospital. She was born January 16, 1919, in Thiry Daems, to the late Ernest and Celina (Fabry) Dalebroux. On September 16, 1941, she married Ira Paye at St. Odile Church, Thiry Daems. Renia enjoyed cooking and was an exceptional baker working at St. Louis Grade school kitchen for 14 years. She also enjoyed her flower garden and playing cards, especially cuyoo. Family was her main priority, she loved to spend time at home with her children and grandchildren.Survivors include her husband of 63 years, Ira, and their children; Dr. Lyle (Jonie) Paye, Dr. Randall (Laura) Paye all of Green Bay; Dennis (Joan) Paye, Or.; Mary (Robert) Borland, Madison. 6 grandchildren, Jennifer (Matt) Cambio, Morgan, Abby Paye, Sara, Kathleen Paye, Lindsay Borland. 3 great-grandchildren Joseph, Nicholaus, William Cambio.Renia was preceded in death by 3 brothers-in-law and 2 sisters-in-law Fred and Mary Dalebroux, John and Irene Dalebroux, Walter Dalebroux. Medora F. "Miss Med" Gauthier-- January 24, 1920 - May 22, 2005 -- NORWICH- Medora F. "Miss Med" Gauthier, 85, of 75 Hunters Rd. died Sunday morning at Haven Health Center in Norwich. She was born in Willimantic on Jan. 24, 1920, the daughter of the late George and Lillian (Lachapelle) Depathy. Medora along with her husband Joe owned and operated Med's Washerette in Taftville for a number of years. She also worked at Pooh Corner in Norwich and was last employed at the Norwich Senior Center before retiring. Medora was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church in Taftville, was actively involved in the Taftville Little League, was a member of the Taftville Fire Dept. Ladies Aux. and was a member of the Rose City Senior Center. On June 8, 1940 she married Joseph L. Gauthier in St. Mary's Church in Willimantic who died on Aug. 31, 1972. Survivors include two sons, Brian Gauthier of Glastonbury and John Gauthier of Middletown. Two daughters, Jo Ann Way of Norwich and Lorraine Keisling of Glendale, AZ. 14 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral will assemble Tuesday at 9:15 a.m. at the Guillot Funeral Home 75 So. B. HOLYOKE - Rene J. Fleury, 89, of Holyoke passed to his final rest on May 20, 2005. Born in Holyoke on Dec. 22, 1915 he was the son of the late Albert and Alphonsine (Lanoue) Fleury. Rene is survived by his wife of 63 years Cecilia (Ruszczyk) Fleury and his son Douglas of Holyoke and a sister Rita Lafountain of Chicopee and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers Joseph and Reginald and his sisters Claire and Jeanne. Prior to WWII Rene served in the 1st division, Battery "C"of the 11th Coastal Artillery of the U.S. Army on the East Coast. During WWII he worked at the Springfield Bronze and Aluminum Foundry. He was later employed at the Worthington Pump and Sinclair Wire Co. and also worked for the City of Holyoke's Department of Public Works until his retirement in 1978. He was a communicant of Mater Dolorosa Church , a life member of the Holyoke Lodge of Elks # 902, the Holyoke Golden Age Club and the Bridge Street Turn Hall. Rene was avidly interested in sports having played amateur softball, horseshoes, bowling, fishing and golfing. His funeral will be Wednesday morning from the Dillon Funeral Home, 124 Chestnut St., Holyoke at 8:00 a.m. with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9:00 a.m. in Mater Dolorosa Church with burial in Mater Dolorosa Cemetery. WESTPORT -- Omer J. Forand, 81, of Westport, died Sunday, May 22, 2005, at home after a brief illness. He was the widower of Carolyn L. (Martin) Forand. A lifelong resident of Westport, he was the son of the late Omer S. and Eloysia (LaFrance) Forand. He was a communicant of St. George Church. He was a World War II Army veteran and received the European-African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal. Mr. Forand was a supervisor for the U.S. Postal Service for more than 30 years, retiring in 1984. He was also the owner of J.O. Forand's Tax Service in Westport. He was a recipient of the Marion Medal, a volunteer at St. George Church for many years, a member of several bowling leagues, a charter member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Ouellette Post No. 8502 and commander of the former Disabled American Veterans Chapter 118 of Westport. He also enjoyed picking strawberries and blueberries, which he sold to stores in the area. Survivors include three daughters, Janet L. Kearney of Weymouth, Regina M. Trainor of New Hampshire and Mary Jane Alfonso of Dartmouth; three sons, Michael J. Forand of Westport, and Patrick S. Forand and Joseph R. Forand, both of Fall River; three sisters, Cecile Phenix of Westport, Martha Sorel of Raynham and Jacqueline Allard of Florida; 11 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was the grandfather of the late Thomas Trainor and brother of the late Andrew, Roland, Normand, Camille and Eloysia Forand. His funeral Mass will be at 9 a.m. Wednesday at St. George Church. WELLFLEET - Richard A. Gallant, 77, died Friday at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis. He was the husband of Edith G. (Nilges) Gallant for 52 years. Mr. Gallant was born in Boston and raised in Acton. He graduated from Acton High School and from Burdette Business College, and served in the Navy during World War II. He began working in the insurance industry with his father in 1955, and later became the owner of Gallant Insurance Agency in Acton, retiring in 1990. Active in the Acton community, he was a member of the Acton Fire Department for 40 years, and founded the Acton Lions Club in 1955. He and his family enjoyed summers on the Cape for many years, and moved from Acton to Wellfleet 13 years ago. He was also a resident of Vero Beach, Fla.Besides his wife, survivors include two sons, Ray Gallant and Ned Gallant, both of West Acton; six grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. tomorrow in the West Acton Baptist Church, 592 Mass. He was raised in Lewiston and Mechanic Falls and graduated from Oxford Hills High School in 1983."Bob" worked many years as a chef in area restaurants. He supported his community by being involved with the Maine Jaycees and the United Bikers of Maine.He enjoyed camping, fishing, beano, hunting, and in his early years, motorcycles.He was a member of 100 Pine Street Social Center.He is survived by his mother Louise of Mechanic Falls; a daughter, Jamie White and her husband, Adam, of Casco; three grandchildren, Tameika, Kerrianna and Keegan; two sisters, Marrianne Bellefleur and her husband, Pete, of Poland and Tracy Bickford of Mechanic Falls; a brother, Mike and his wife, Tami, of Mechanic Falls; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.He was predeceased by his father, and two aunts, Jeannette Huntington and Yvette Lessard.

SPENCER— Kaitlyn Leigh Langlois, 16, of 5 Sullivan St., died Saturday evening at home after a four year battle with cancer. She leaves her parents, Daniel E. and Katherine A. (Sieron) Langlois, her brother, Michael D. Langlois at home, her paternal grandparents, Ernest E. and Suzanne (Cormier) Langlois of No. Oxford, her maternal grandparents, Stephen S. and Ann J. (Trzcinski) Sieron, Jr. of Spencer, her paternal great grandmother, Doris (Grammo) Harrison of No. Oxford, and her boyfriend, Korey Derosiers of Spencer, several aunts, uncles and cousins. Ms. Langlois was a sophmore student at David Prouty Regional High School in Spencer where she excelled in soccer, playing on the Varsity Girls Soccer Team, and previously on the J.V. Girls Soccer Team where she was Captain and M.V.P. She most recently was on the indoor track team and was a member of the Future Nurses of America Club at the school. She also sang in the School Chorus. She was a member of Our Lady of the Rosary Church. She enjoyed camping with her family and her "swing set". The Funeral will be held Tuesday, May 24 from the J. HENRI MORIN & SON FUNERAL HOME, 23 Maple Terr., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of the Rosary Church, 7 Church St., Spencer. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. AUBURN - Florence J. Proctor, 80, of Auburn, passed away Saturday morning, May 21, at Clover Manor in Auburn with her family by her side.She was born in Auburn on July 28, 1924, the daughter of George and Malvina Daniels Lapointe. She grew up in the Auburn area and attended Auburn schools.In March of 1946, Florence married Frealand C. Proctor in Auburn, and they started their family.Then in the early 1950s, she became the owner and operator of Mutt & Jeff's Diner in Lewiston. After that she had done some work in the textile and shoe industry.Florence was a very outgoing person for everyone, according to her family. She loved spending time with her whole family, going to the coast to admire the ocean, camping, and riding motorcycles. Florence was the very first woman in Maine to receive a motorcycle driver's license.She was predeceased by her husband of many years, Frealand; a sister, Lucille; a brother, Armand; five children, Sandra Hallowell of Sabattus; a stepdaughter, Beverly and her husband, Laross Coggan, of California, Larry and his wife, Ann Proctor, of Auburn, Steve Proctor of Auburn, and George and his wife, Jan, of Leeds; two brothers, Harry and Fernand Lapointe of Lewiston; and seven grandchildren, Thomas, Tina, Heather, Bianca, Jonathan, Jeremy, and Derek; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

LaPorte Jr., Victor Joseph "V.J." A resident of Greenwell Springs, he passed away to his heavenly home at 11:48 p.m. Saturday, May 21, 2005, at Lane Memorial Hospital, Zachary, due to complications from pneumonia. He fought a long and courageous battle with Parkinson's disease. He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his family and friends. He was 70 years old, born April 11, 1935, to Victor LaPorte Sr. and Vivian Gautreau LaPorte. He was owner of LaPorte's Paint and Body Shop for 20 years. Before that, he was employed for 20 years at Duplessis Cadillac Co., where he was known as the best automobile painter in Baton Rouge. He leaves behind his mother, Vivian Gautreau LaPorte; devoted wife of 48 years, Shirley Donaldson LaPorte; son, Doug LaPorte and wife Angie; daughter, Vickie LaPorte Ward and husband Allen; two very loved grandsons, Eric Ward and Cody Ward; two brothers, Alvin LaPorte and wife Vi and Donald LaPorte and wife Diane; three nieces, DeEtte LaPorte Brouillette and husband Greg, Debbie LaPorte Corsentino and husband Mike, and Donna LaPorte Gosserand and husband Paul; two nephews, Al LaPorte Jr. and Troy LaPorte and wife Jennifer; special sister-in-law, Lois Donaldson; and nine great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Victor LaPorte Sr.; and grandparents, Joseph LaPorte and Frances Passentino LaPorte. TOWER - Helen Mary Carter, age 97 of Tower, passed away on Thursday, May 19, 2005, at her residence.She was born in Cheboygan on March 24, 1908, the daughter of William and Anna (Allaire) LaVigne. She married August Carter on Sept. 2, 1929 at St. Francis Catholic Church in Alverno. She was a lifelong resident of the Afton and Tower sections of Cheboygan County. Before she married and had a family, Helen worked as a seamstress at the Alpena Garment Factory.She was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church in Onaway since 1972, St. Monica's Catholic Church in Afton and the Afton Aids. Helen enjoyed playing piano, doing crossword puzzles, knitting and working in her flower beds. A member of Duplicate Bridge Clubs in both Summerside and Charlottetown obtaining his life's masters in less than three years.
