SOUTH GLENS FALLS Rev. Edward Noel Leroux, 75, died Sunday, January 16, 2005 in Glens Falls Hospital surrounded by his family and dear friend Doris Vojnar after a brief illness. Born December 25, 1929 in Glens Falls, son of the late Albert and Corinne Prevost Leroux. Ordained May 26, 1956 at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Albany by Bishop William Scully. He had served as an associate pastor at the Nativity Parish in Edmonston, N.Y.; Our Lady of Victory in Troy; St. Mary's Church, Gloversville, N.Y.; St. Joseph's Church, Cohoes; St. Madeline Sophie Church, Guilderland, N.Y. He had served as pastor of Sacred Heart Church in Cohoes, N.Y.; Sacred Heart Church in Stamford, N.Y.; Sacred Heart Church, Berlin, N.Y.; St. Joseph's Church, Stephentown, N.Y. and retired as pastor of St. Joseph's Church in Fort Edward, N.Y. He was predeceased by a brother, Lucien (Lou) Leroux. Survived by his brother, Ernest Leroux and his wife Lynne of South Glens Falls, N.Y. He is the uncle of Linda (David) Strainer, David Leroux, Lisa Stevens, Laurie (Jim) Engle, John Leroux, Lorraine Leroux, Elaine Buckton and several other nieces and nephews in the Glens Falls area. Dear friend to his dog and loyal companion Princess and many other special friends. He enjoyed gardening and spending summers at Glen Lake and Cape Cod and helping those in need. Liturgy of Christian Burial was concelebrated on January 20 at St. Mary's Church in Glens Falls with Bishop Howard Hubbard officiating. CHESTER - Gerald N. Mersereau, 76, a retired construction worker for many years, died Friday in the Cooley Dickinson Hospital in Northampton. He retired in 2000. Born on December 2, 1928, he was the son of the late Reginald R. Mersereau and the late Marguerite L. (Hovey) Mersereau. He grew up in Bartlett, NH. He lived in Chester since 1963 coming from New York. He worked in construction throughout New England and New York. He worked on the Eisenhower Lock on the St. Lawrence Seaway, the Littleville Dam in Huntington and the Littleton Dam. He also worked for Bannish Lumber and Donovan Brothers Sand and Gravel. He worked part time for Energy Answers in Pittsfield before retiring. He was a member of the Mass. Laborers Union, member of the International Order of Odd Fellows in NH. Gerald loved gardening and taking care of his fruit trees and loved animals. He was predeceased by his wife Betty R. (Duguay) Mersereau who passed away in 2002. He leaves three daughters, Starr L. Theriault of Northampton, Margaret I. Rice and her husband Mark of Chester and Lorna M.C. Basford and her husband Wesley of Rochester, NH; four brother, Herman Mersereau of Braintree, MA, George Mersereau of Mashpee, MA, Norris Mersereau of Plano, Texas and James Mersereau of North Conway, NH; two sisters, Doris Rutledge of Canada and Patricia Rogerson of Bartlett, NH; seven grandchildren, Mark, Martha, Terrie, Joe, Gerry, Debbie and Andy and three great-grandchildren Samantha, Sebastian and Sarah Jane. Hew was predeceased by a son, Norman W.A. Mersereau. The funeral will be held Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at Second Congregational Church, Middlefield Rd., Chester. Burial will be in the spring in Bartlett Village Cemetery in Bartlett, NH. Calling hours will be held Monday from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the O'Brien Hilltown Community Funeral Home in Huntington. Cecile Ouellette Martin, of Bridgeport, wife of the late Claude Frenchy Martin, died peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, January 29, 2005, at the Shady Knolls Health Care Center, Seymour. Mrs. Martin was born on January 27, 1925 in Waterville, Maine. She was 80 years old. She was a retired employee for the former Colonia Cologne Co. Orange. She is survived by her six devoted children, John Martin of Bridgeport, Sandra Martin of Bridgeport, Nancy Martin of Seymour, Linda Pereira and her husband, Luis of Naugatuck, William Martin and his wife, Diane, of Palm Bay, Fla., Donald Martin and his wife, Jennifer, of Milford; three grandchildren, Jason Martin of Bridgeport and Mitchell and Holly Martin of Milford and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two children, Russell and Doreen Martin. She was born in Donaldsonville, Louisiana on July 20, 1919, daughter of the late Lucien and Clemence (Ruiz) Simoneaux. She was married to Allan C. Logee on March 6, 1943. STEVENSON, Barbara Anne (Culp), November 7, 1939 - January 28, 2005. Surrounded by her family at Hotel Dieu, Barbara went peacefully home to the Lord. Beloved wife of the late James Keith Stevenson (1984) and cherished mother of Terry, Jim, Cathy (R ick) Belic, Rob (Barb Chrysler) and Holly (Eric) Farmborough. Loving grandmother of Ryan, Tyler, Kayla, Ryan, Joshua, Paula (Chris), Eric III (Amie), Thresa (Bryce) and great grandmother of five. Also survived by her brothers Roy (Mary 2002), Bob, Jo hn (Lucy) Culp and her sister Donna (Wayne 1978) Crawford. Irene P. Williamson, 93, of Christian Avenue in Concord, died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2005, at Havenwood Nursing Home. She was born in Chelsea, Mass., the daughter of Leo and Laura Arsenault. Irene worked for 20 years as a clerk for the IRS and also as a clerk for 10 years for the Academy of Applied Science in Concord. She was an avid reader and bowler. Irene enjoyed camping and loved her grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Ralph W. Williamson, who died in 1995; one daughter, Carol M. Rines, who died in 1993; two brothers, Marshal and Leonard Arsenault; and one sister, Aldona Moran. She is survived by one son, Ralph R. Williamson of Quincy, Mass.; four daughters, Audrey Body of Myrtle Creek, Ore., Jean M. Gessner of Tyngsboro, Mass., Irene G. O'Mara of Concord and Kathleen C. She made her home on Brook Street in Sanford and worked at Pioneer Plastics and retired from Sprague Electric following many years of dedicated employment. Mrs. Jowett was most content when she and her family would gather at the home on Mousam Lake. She was very independent and would help her daughter and her family with errands around the house. A trip to the grocery store could be up to two hours - she enjoyed visiting with everyone.Mrs. Jowett had made her home with her daughter, Sandra and family for the past 10 years. She and Sandra shared trips to Disney World in Florida. Simple pleasures suited her just fine. A Red Sox and Patriots fan, she could not be disturbed when they were playing. She loved to spoil Flash, the family beagle.Survivors include her son, Stanley 'Skip” Jowett and wife, Priscilla; daughter, Sandra Allaire and husband, Ron; two grandsons, Lee Allaire of Sanford and Lance Allaire of Rangeley; two granddaughters, Kristin LaVoie and husband, David of Naples, Fla.; and Karolyn Jowett of Alfred; a sister, Simone Littlefield of Jacksonville, Fla.; and many nieces and nephews.She was predeceased by her loving husband of 43 years, Stanley Jowett Sr., in 1987 and four sisters and a brother.A graveside service will be later in the spring at Oakdale Cemetery.

Thomas J. Chartier, a retired fire captain of 30 years from Jefferson Parish, passed away on Thursday, January 27, 2005, at the age of 72. He was born in Metairie, LA and a resident of Covington for the past 24 years. Mr. Chartier graduated from St. Aloysius High School, and attended Southeastern University. He is preceded in death by his parents; Paul and Josephine Chartier and sister Melba C. Tureaud. He is survived by his beloved wife Paulette M. Chartier and daughters; Cherise M. Chartier and Desiree L. Chartier, brothers Paul E., Charles G. and Edwin Chartier, sisters; Yvonne C. Trepagnier and Rose Mary Chartier Allen. Also survived by 3 sons; Rolf Haase, William Chartier, and Paul Chartier, and 5 daughters; Dona C. Schenden, Anita C. DeBoisblanc, Melanie C. Patterson, Judy Chartier, Michelle C. Martin, and 12 grandchildren. Charles R. Chevrette, 63, King, Wis., passed away on Friday, Jan. 28, 2005, at the Wisconsin Veterans Home in King, Wis. He was born Nov. 2, 1941, in Munising, Mich., son of Russel and Anna Mae (Fitzgerald) Chevrette. Charles served his country in the U.S. Marines Corps. H. Vernon Davault, 77, of Jackson passed away Thursday, Jan. 27, 2005, at the family home. He was born May 22, 1927, in Bollinger County, Mo., son of Ora and Ruth Snider Davault. He and Genevieve "Genny" Schreiner were married Aug. 9, 1947, in Jackson. Vernon was inducted into the U.S. Navy May 10, 1945. He was honorably discharged July 30, 1946, as seaman first class. He had been a member of First Baptist Church in Jackson since 1941. He was active in Sunday school, head usher of the 8 a.m. service, former youth group van driver, and former R.A. leader. He was a longtime member of the Tuesday Night Church Bowling League at Jackson Lanes. He and his family moved from Jackson to their farm in 1976, where he was an avid farmer and cattleman. He was a member of American Legion Post 158 in Jackson. Loving survivors include his wife; two daughters and sons-in-law, Helen and Ben Proffer of Jackson, Susan and Chuck Bright of Washington, Mo.; a brother, Roy Davault of Cape Girardeau; a sister and brother-in-law, Della and Stan Reinholz of Mesa, Ariz.; four grandchildren, Amy Philipps and husband Tom, and Greg Proffer, all of Jackson, Charlie Bright and wife Jill of St. Louis, Caitlin Bright of Washington; three great-grandchildren, Auston Proffer, Alex and Max Philipps, all of Jackson. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson, and after 9 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church. An American Legion service will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the church, with the Rev. Carter Frey officiating. FALL RIVER -- Roger A. Doucette, 67, of Westport died Friday, Jan. 28, 2005, at St. Anne's Hospital after a brief illness. He was the husband of Carol J. (Guay) Doucette. Born in Fall River, the son of the late Romeo O. and Madeleine D. (Gajoli) Doucette, he lived in Westport since 1965. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Grace Church. Mr. Doucette was a service engineer for Fall River Gas Co. until he retired in 2000. He served in the National Guard and was a former president of the AFL-CIO Local 431. An avid fisherman and motorcycle enthusiast, he was a member of the Gold Wing Touring Association, Chapter C, and Gold Wing Road Riders, Chapter F. Survivors include his widow; a son, David R. Doucette of Westport; two daughters, Renee E. Kirby, and her husband, Ross, of Washington, and Monique J. Sampson, and her husband, Stephen, of Dartmouth; three brothers, Robert A. Doucette of Fairhaven, Normand E. Doucette of Key Largo, Fla., and Paul L. Doucette of Palm Harbor, Fla.; two sisters, Murielle V. DeSouza of Newington, Conn., and Claudette F. Martin of Westport; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Rene Doucette. His funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of Grace Church. GAGNON, ROLAND 'RED', 71, of 17 Redgate Road, Cumberland died with his family and friends by his side on Wednesday. He was the husband of Patricia (Pepin) Gagnon. Born in Central Falls, he was a partner in Gagnon Brothers Painting with his brother Robert, retiring ten years ago. He enjoyed extensive travel with his wife, outings at the beach and fun times with his children and grandchildren. A 1952 graduate of East High School, he served four years in the Navy during the Korean War.Besides his wife of fifty years, he leaves his children, Peter and David Gagnon and Sandy Geiger, one brother, Robert Gagnon and seven grandchildren.The funeral will be Monday at 9 a.m. from DARLINGTON MORTUARY OF L. Donald K. Marchand Jr. , Norfolk -- Donald Kirk Marchand Jr. Ph.D., 78, of the 1600 block of Melrose Parkway, died Jan. 27, 2005, in a local hospital. Mr. Marchand was born and raised in Morgantown, W.Va., and attended college at West Virginia University. He went to graduate school at the Norfolk Division of the College Of William and Mary (now ODU) and at the University of Virginia. He taught at the Norfolk Division of the College of William and Mary, Randolph Macon, Bethany College and Central Missouri State, before coming back to teach the remainder of his career at the Norfolk Division of William and Mary in 1962. He taught chemistry, and in 1968, was appointed dean of men at the school, which at that point had been renamed Old Dominion College. He served as dean of men and associate dean of student affairs until 1975, when he returned to teaching in the geophysical sciences department at ODU. He remained in that department as an associate professor until his retirement in 1991. He joined Sigma Nu fraternity while an undergraduate at WVU and maintained a strong lifetime commitment to the fraternity. He was instrumental in bringing Sigma Nu, as well as other national fraternities and sororities, to ODU. He served for a time as division commander for the fraternity and was an adviser to ODU's chapter through the time of his death. He had also recently been designated as an "honorary graduate" of ODU due to his lifetime of service. He is survived by his son, D. Kirk Marchand of College Park, Md.; two sisters, Dorothy Wahl of Santa Cruz, Calif., and Jimmie Sobek of Pittsburgh, Pa.; and a number of nephews, nieces and cousins. He is also survived by several hundred brothers in Sigma Nu fraternity. A funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd. The Rev. Robert Davenport will officiate. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Memorial donations may take the form of contributions to the charity of the donor's choice. H.D. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. at the St. Louis Catholic Church in Fort Kent with the Rev. Bill Labbe officiating. Spring burial will be held in the parish cemetery May 18, 2005. Those who wish may donate in her memory, to the Northern Maine General Consumer Fund, P.O. Box 310, Eagle Lake, ME 04739, or to the St. Louis Renovation Fund, 11 East Main St., Fort Kent, ME 04743. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.

OLD ORCHARD BEACH - Roland A. Millette, 80, of Ivy Avenue and a 30-year resident of Middle Street, Biddeford, died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2005 at his home. He was born May, 15, 1924 in Biddeford, a son of Joseph and Yvonne Jannelle Millette and was educated in Biddeford schools.Mr. Millette served in the U.S. Army with the 99th Infantry during World War II. He participated in the Battle of the Bulge, sustaining injuries there, and received a Purple Heart On Sept. 2, 1946, he married Dorothy Houle at St. Joseph's Church.Roland worked at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard for a few years, then in 1952, opened Roland's Garage in Saco. In 1958, he moved the business to Old Orchard Beach where it remained until 1976. He also owned and operated the Ne're Beach Campground from 1969 to 1992. He loved his little cottage on Ivy Street and remodeled and winterized it for their retirement years.He was currently a member of St. Margaret's Church in Old Orchard Beach, but had previously belonged to St. Andre's Parish in Biddeford for 50 years.Mr. Millette was a 3rd and 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Luke E. Hatt Council, and had served the organization as faithful navigator. He also belonged to the VFW Post 7997 and the American Legion Post 57, both in Old Orchard Beach , and a life member of the DAV in Biddeford. Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Dorothy Millette of Old Orchard Beach; three sons, Paul Millette and his wife, Brenda of Biddeford, Leo Millette, M.D., and his wife, Joanne of Ridgefield, Conn., Dennis Millette and his wife, Laura of Lyman; six grandchildren, Shelly, Tyson, Maura, Andrew, Lori, and Todd Millette.Visiting hours will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., on Sunday at Cathedral Pines Funeral Home, 156 Saco Avenue, Old Orchard Beach. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Monday at St. Margaret's Church in Old Orchard Beach . Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Biddeford. Arrangements are by Hope Memorial Chapel, 480 Elm Street, Biddeford.
