Sr. Bernadette Riopel, CSC (Sr. M. Bernadette de Nevers), 89, of 357 Island Pond Rd., Manchester, died January 26, 2005, at Catholic Medical Center, after a long illness. Born in Sherbrooke, Quebec, June 17, 1915, she was a daughter of Oscar and Agnes (Lepitre) Riopel. She entered the Congregation of the Sisters of Holy Cross in 1933 and made her final profession in 1940. She served in the Congregation for 71 years. Sister Bernadette earned a B.Ed from Notre Dame College in Manchester. She was also a certified LNA She taught elementary parochial school in New Market, Gonic, Manchester, and Nashua, NH. She also served 20 years as a missionary in Haiti where she ministered in hospitals and clinics. Upon returning to the US she served as an LNA at Congregation’s retirement home in West Franklin and at St. George Manor in Manchester. Family members include a brother, Gerard Riopel of Dixville, Quebec; nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated Saturday January 29, 2005 in the chapel of St. George Manor. Burial was in St. Augustin Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Holy Cross Development Fund, 377 Island Pond Rd., Manchester, 03109. Roland A. Simoneau, 57, of Nashua died January 26, 2005 in his residence after a sudden illness. Born on July 2, 1947, he was the son of Roger and Marie (Nault) Simoneau. He lived in Greenfield many years before moving to Nashua many years ago. During the Vietnam War he served two tours of duty with the US Army. Mr. Simoneau worked as an interpreter for the hearing disabled at Crotched Mountain in Greenfield for many years. He also worked with youth groups at the Nashua YWCA and as a custodian at the Nashua District Court. He was known by many as “Mr. Wonderful”. The family includes seven brothers, Norman R. Simoneau of Manchester, Robert G. Simoneau of Pembroke, Donald O. Simoneau of Manchester, Rosaire Simoneau of Ottawa, Ontario, Leo A. Blouin of Fremont and Michael Terrel of Jacksonville, FL; Raymond Simoneau of Hooksett; 2 sisters, Debbie Moore of Hooksett and Jeanne Sylvain or Raymond; aunts and many nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Monday January 31, 2005 in St. Anthony Church, 172 Belmont St., Manchester. The burial was in NH State Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen. Memorial donations may be made to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, 1309 Beacon St., Brookline, MA 02446-9918.

BEDIKIAN, Pierre. 1905 - 2005. In Montreal, on January 25 at the age of ninety-nine years, passed away Pierre Bedikian, husband of Iris Nakachian. He leaves to mourn his sons Paul (Pauline), Raffi (Lily), his daughter Milka, his sister-in-law Astrid (Barouyr), his grandchildren, nephew, nieces, relatives and friends. Born in Rogersville, N.B. she was a daughter of the late Jean B. and Alice (Martin) Arsenault. She and her late husband owned and operated Gaily LeBlanc Construction. She is survived by a daughter, Kathleen Harquail; a son, Richard (T.J. Slate) both of Dartmouth; brothers, Joe Adler, Dartmouth, Randy (Jean) Arsenault, Chance Harbour, Pictou County; grandchildren, Shawn and Brandy Harquail both of Dartmouth. Her companion, Gerard Mills, Moncton; as well as nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Gaily LeBlanc, 1969; sisters, Mary Boucher and Leona Comeau; brother, Joseph. Gerry "Hop" Hébert 1944 - 2005 SHEDIAC, NB - Gerry "Hop" Hébert, 60, of Apothecary St., Shediac passed away suddenly on Monday, January 24, 2005 at the Dr. Georges-L. Dumont Regional Hospital, Moncton. Born in Moncton, July 27, 1944, he was the son of the late Alban Hébert and the late Lucie Fougère. He was employed with the Shediac Bowling and Community Center and was past president of the Shediac Winter Carnival. He was a member of the Shediac Lions Club and the Scoudouc Canoe Club. Gerry "Hop" was very involved within the community. Gerry "Hop" will be sadly missed by his partner and best friend, Ginette Thibodeau; daughters, Brenda Richard (Charles) of Cap-Pelé, Dawna-Lynn Vienneau (Bernie) of Boston; grandchildren, Ryan, Meagan and Brandon and by several nieces, nephews and friends. Armand J. Cormier Armand Joseph Cormier, 68, of Moncton passed away Wednesday, January 26, 2005 at The Moncton Hospital. Born September 8, 1936 in CapPelé, he was the son of the late Edgar Cormier and Léonie Goguen. Armand was employed at Université de Moncton prior to his retirement. He enjoyed the outdoors, walking, gardening, feeding ducks, and his beloved dog Buster. He will be missed by all who knew him but mostly by his loving wife, Simone (née Girouard); daughter, Monique of Moncton; five sisters, Ethel Cormier (Ken) of Gardner, Mass., Maria McNeil (Aubrey) of Sussex, Jeannette Beaumont (Preston) of Halifax, Gilberte Gould (Norm) of Moncton, and Lucille McKenzie (Reg) of Dieppe; three brothers, Gilbert (Jeannine) of Moncton, Edmond (Dorothy) of Shediac, Edgar "Jr." (Paulette) of Winnipeg; several nieces, nephews, and his pal Brian MacEachern. PEMBROKE -- Maurice W. Bergevin, 79, of Broadway, died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2005, at home. The son of Antonio and Alice (Rivard) Bergevin, Mr. Bergevin was born in Allenstown on Feb. 2, 1925. He spent his early life in Allenstown and had spent 30 years in Northwood before moving to Pembroke in the late 1990s. Prior to his retirement, he had spent more than 35 years with Anchor Electric in Manchester. He was also a World War II Navy veteran. He was the widower of Doris R. (Courchesne) Bergevin, who died in 2002 and to whom he had been married 56 years. He is survived by a daughter, Irene Ayers of Hooksett; a granddaughter, Christina Quinlan of Naperville, Ill.; a grandson, Jonathan Ayers of Providence, R.I.; two great-grandsons, Patrick and Brady Quinlan; a brother, Lucien Bergevin of Laguna Hills, Calif.; four sisters, Laurette and her husband, Earl Kimball, Lillian and her husband, Lucien Boisvert, and Madeleine Clement, all of Allenstown, and Lorraine Stewart of Saco, Maine. He was predeceased by five other siblings, Germaine Girard, Gerard Bergevin, Lena Courtemanche, Lucille LaPierre and Donald Bergevin. He is survived by his son, Thomas J. MADISON - Arline M. DeHetre 90, died Friday, Jan. 21, 2005, at Maplecrest Rehabilitation & Living Center in Madison. She was born April 11, 1914, in Madison, the daughter of John Zoel and Gracieuse (Fortin) DeHetre. Arline attended Madison schools and worked in the finish room at the Madison Paper Mill for several years. She enjoyed sewing and crocheting. She was predeceased by four sisters, Leona Tranten, Fleurange Godin, Rita DeHetre and Lucille M. Stewart. She is survived by several nieces and nephews and many loving people who cared for her throughout her life. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated later in the spring at St. Sebastian Catholic Church in Madison, at a time and date will be announced. Interment will be in St. Sebastian Cemetery. FAIRHAVEN -- Jeannette (Duckworth) Gignac, 92, of Fairhaven died Sunday, Jan. 23, 2005, at Alden Court Nursing Care & Rehabilitation Center after a brief illness. She was the widow of Homer Gignac. Born in New Bedford, she was the daughter of the late James and Alice (Souerbutts) Duckworth. She lived in Fairhaven 56 years. Mrs. Gignac was a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd. She was a 1932 graduate of St. Luke's School of Nursing and a member of the St. Luke's Alumni. She was a registered nurse at Berkshire Hathaway, New Bedford, for 25 years and the New Bedford School Department until she retired. She was a member of the Fairhaven Seniors. She enjoyed knitting and reading, and taught and enjoyed yoga. Survivors include a daughter, Jane E. Patenaude, and her husband, Clifton, of Fairhaven; and a dear friend, Camilla Taveira of Fairhaven. She was the sister of the late Hazel McCormick and Roy Duckworth. Her funeral was private. Margaret Ann Rita Steeves RIVERSIDE-ALBERT, NB - Margaret Ann Steeves, 90, of Forest Dale Home, Riverside-Albert, passed away on January 25, 2005 at the nursing home. Margaret was born in Manitolin Island, Ontario on May 30, 1914, the daughter of the late Ignatius and Elizabeth (Corbier) Gabow. Margaret was a housewife and homemaker. Margaret also ran a nursing home for several years. She loved taking care of people. She attended the Curryville United Church. She was a member of the Hillsborough Legion Branch #32 Ladies Auxiliary, a member of the Albert Mines Senior Citizens Community Center and she was also an active member of the Progressive Conservative Party. She was an avid gardener and was honored for her service at the Red Cross where she was a dedicated volunteer. Margaret was a well respected member of her community. She was a loving mother and loved times spent with her family. She will be fondly remembered by all who knew her. She will be deeply missed by her four daughters, Barbara Vibbert (James) of Washington State, Gloria Hassinger (George) of North Carolina, Vickey Bell (Lawson) of Levy Rd., and Melody McNair (Charles) of Bristol; her four sons, Bill Steeves (Sharon) of Mississauga, ON, David Steeves (Ida) of Albert Mines, Keith Steeves (Margaret) of Albert Mines and Paul Steeves (Colleen) of Albert Mines; her two sisters, Nora Maiangowl, Josephine Lewis both of Maitowlin Island, Ontario; her 22 precious grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Born in St. Stephen, NB and a self employed businessman, he served overseas from 1939-1945 with the 105th AntiTank and landed at Juneau Beach on D. Day. He also served in other campaigns in Europe. Roland was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion branch #4. He is survived by 2 sons Randy (Sandra) and Rollie Jr. of Fredericton; 2 daughters Pam Hughes and Susan Horsnell (Derek) of Fredericton; Myrna Waddingham, the mother of Randy, Rollie Jr., Pam and Susan; 10 grandchildren Peter and Lindsay Hughes, Andrea Hoyt (Jason), Krista Bowen (Dave), Heather McKinnon, Andrew and Bradley Waddingham, Hollie Waddingham, Carla Waddingham, Colby Waddingham; 4 great granddaughters Leah, Kayla, Megan and Jordan. The family will receive friends at Bishop's Funeral Home 540 Woodstock Road Fredericton on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The funeral service will be held at Bishop's Funeral Home on Friday January 28, 2005 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Harry Waugh officiating. Interment will be held at a later date. BURKE, WILLIAM ALEXANDER The death of William Alexander Burke of Boiestown, NB, husband of the late Marie (Coogan) Burke occurred on Tuesday, January 25, 2005 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital, Fredericton, NB. Born in Ludlow, NB, he was a son of the late Joseph and Carrie (Pond) Burke. Mr. Burke was a mechanic. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion #78, Boiestown and enjoyed fishing and his camp. Mr. Burke is survived by two daughters, Kelly Munn (David) of Bloomfield and Nicole Munn (Blair) of Boiestown; three sons, Billie Burke (Lana) of Ludlow, William Lyons of Carroll's Crossing and Chris Burke of Georgetown, ON; 11 grandchildren and one great-grandson; three sisters, Isabel Jordan (Millard) of Keswick, Helen Calhoun of Parker's Ridge and Betty Morehouse of Doaktown; three brothers, Walter Burke (Lorna) of Ludlow, Earl Burke (Ruth) of Fredericton and Thomas Burke (Janet) of Fredericton; several nieces and nephews. Besides his wife and parents, he was predeceased by one brother, Allan. Visitation will take place at the Miramichi Valley Funeral Home, New Bandon, NB on Thursday from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm. The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, January 28, 2005 at 2 pm from the Miramichi Valley Funeral Home with Rev. Mark Trzop officiating. FIRLOTTE, ALWARD (MORT) - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Auley Firlotte, well-known and lifelong resident of Campbellton, on January 22, 2005, eight days short of his eightieth birthday. Auley, widely known as Mort, was born on January 30, 1925, the son of the late Wallace and Annie Jane (MacLeod) Firlotte. Pre-deceased by his wife Helen (Harvey), his brother Dallas and sister Irene, he is survived by his sister Maxine Watters, and his son Rick, his daughter Pam, daughter-in-law France St-Hilaire and grand children Nicolas and Elyse. Mort served in the Royal Canadian Navy on convoy duty during the Second World War on the North Atlantic. He was a founding member of the Campbellton Main Brace and an active member of the Canadian Legion. Following the war he took an electrical course in Saint John where he met his future wife Helen. They were married in 1949 and settled in Campbellton. He worked as an electrician at the CNR until he retired. He fondly remembered all of his friends and colleagues from his many years at CN. Mort was a lifelong outdoorsman, a hunter and fisherman and a contractor for the Restigouche Salmon Club. During the 1960s, he and Helen ran Mort's Canteen, an institution on Gerrard St. He was a City Councilor, manager of the Caledonian Society Pipe band and a volunteer fireman. One of his proudest moments was as coach of the 1958/59 Campbellton Tigers hockey team when they were Maritime Champions and played in the memorial Cup Series in Pembrooke, Ontario. The team has since been inducted into the New Brunswick Sports Hall of Fame. Mort deeply cared for his community and particularly its people. He and his family enjoyed and appreciated the support and affection of neighbours and friends. We would especially like to thank the people at the Village who provided Mort with care and kindness in his final years. A memorial service will be held at the chapel of Maher's Funeral Home on Saturday, January 29 at 2:00 pm. HARRIS, HAZEL ALBINA - The passing of Hazel Albina (Good) Harris of Woodstock, NB occurred on January 25, 2005 at the Carleton Memorial Hospital. Born in Jacksontown she was the daughter of the late Jasper and Gertrude (Lifford) Good. Hazel is survived by daughters: Maxine Greer, Woodstock, NB; Doreen Farrell (Arnold), McKenzie Cornier; sons, Norman (Cathie) Pembroke, NB; Malcolm (Marilyn), Cambridge Narrows. Daughter-in-law Betty Harris. One sister Velma Walker, Woodstock, NB; fifteen grandchildren, several great and great great grandchildren. Hazel was predeceased by husband Chester, son Gerald, grandson Jeff, sisters Mable, Cora, Arvila, Audrey, Verna and a brother Guy. HILLS, DONALD DeWOLFE - The death of Donald DeWolfe Hills of Argyle Street, Saint John West, husband of Velma L. (Rood) Hills, occurred on Tuesday, January 25, 2005 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Lawrencetown in the Annapolis Valley, Nova Scotia, he was the son of the late William Andrew and Lillie (Phinney) Hills. Following graduation from Lawrencetown High School he received a degree from Acadia University. Following a post graduate year at Acadia he started a life long career with the YMCA first at Quebec City and at Brantford, ON. During the War years, he served as a YMCA Supervisor at Yarmouth and Goose Bay before being transferred to England as Senior Sport Supervisor for the Canadian Forces overseas. He was attached to the Canadian Army of Occupation in Germany and upon return to England he was assigned to the teaching staff of Khaki College. Returning from overseas he held positions with the YMCA at Winnipeg and Halifax prior to joining the YMCA National Council Staff where he was responsible for the operation of Geneva Park, the National training and conference center of the Canadian "Y". In 1953 he was loaned to the Saint John Association to aid in their financial campaign and in 1954 became C.E.O. of the Saint John "Y", retiring in 1976. He was a member of Germain Street Baptist Church serving on various boards and committees. He was most active and a Past President of the Saint John Y's Men's Club. He provided volunteer service to the United Way, Romero House, the Community Food Basket and was President of the Home for Aged People (Dufferin Hall). He was also a member of the Lancaster Golden Service Club. He was an avid sportsman and played tennis, baseball and hockey in the Valley Leagues and hockey and baseball on Acadia Varsity teams. He won the Acadia "A" awards of distinction for both drama and varsity athletics. He was a member of Westfield Golf and Country Club, serving on the Board of Directors and later as Manager. He was Past President of St. Andrew's Curling Club and a member of Carleton Curling Club, serving as Manager for three years. He was a member of Balls Lake Fishing Club and a member and Past President of the South Branch Fishing Club. Don was a very caring person and dedicated his life to helping others. Besides his wife he is survived by one son, Gordon (Avis), one daughter, Pamela Queen (Lloyd), five grandchildren, Andrea, Kelly and Kathryn Hills and Dan and Jeff Queen. He was predeceased by a brother, Wilbur (Alma) and a sister, Frances McCullough (Leo). HUTCHINSON, BERYL - The death of Beryl Hutchinson of Marysview Seniors Facility, Hampton, widow of Ernest Hutchinson occurred January 24, 2005 at her residence. She was born at Hillsdale, daughter of the late Archibald and Hilda B. (Tabor) Sherwood. Beryl was a Sunday School teacher and member of the Guild at Penny Memorial United Baptist Church. She enjoyed sewing, knitting and going for walks. She is survived by one daughter Dawn McHugh (Bud) of Nauwigewauk; one grandson Michael Hamm (Josselyn) of Saint John; two granddaughters Barbara Morrow (Doug) of Oak Bay, Debra Green (John) of Amherst, NS; four great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. He was born in Murray Harbour, P.E.I. He served in the Royal Canadian Navy during the Second World War. He was then employed with the Fisheries and Oceans, until retirement. Norman "Norm" Edward Pickrem October 11, 1956 - January 24, 2005 Funeral arrangements by Atlantic Funeral Home (Halifax) PICKREM, Norman Edward "Norm" - 48, Halifax, passed away suddenly Monday, January 24, 2005. Born October 11, 1956, in Halifax, he was a son of the late Harry and Roulfine (Hess) Pickrem. Norm owned and operated Norm's Garage in Halifax and had been a larger than life presence there for over a decade. Norm's two passions in life were his family and cars. He was a mainstay in the Maritime drag racing scene for many years. In addition to being an avid racer and antique car collector, he was perhaps best-known as the voice of the Cape Breton Dragway. Anyone who had the pleasure of meeting and knowing Norm knew what a genuine and kind man he was, who lived life to the fullest.
