HOLYOKE - Rita (Courchesne) Hamel, 88, formerly of the Falcetti Apts., passed away, Sunday January 23, 2005 at a local nursing home. She was born in Holyoke, April 26, 1916, a daughter of the late Edison and Diana (Schooner) Courchesne and attended the former Precious Blood School. Rita was a longtime Communicant of Our Lady of Perpetual Help and now a Communicant of Our Lady of Guadalupe. She retired as the Supervisor of the Dietary Department at Mt. St. Vincent Nursing Home. Her loving husband Ernest predeceased her in 1991. She is survived by 2 sons, Robert and his wife Janet of Mason, MI and Donald and his wife Mary of Zepher Hills, FL, formerly of West Holyoke, two daughters, Constance Stepniak and her husband Tom of Holyoke and Joanne Wiernasz and her partner Tom Basile of Enfield, CT, 9 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, Henry and Leo Courchesne and one sister Blanche Bellerose. Funeral services will be Thursday morning at 8 a.m. from the Messier Funeral Home, 1944 Northampton St., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. in Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, both in Holyoke. Burial will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery in So. Hadley. Beatrice O. LeBeau, 92, of New Britain and formerly of Seminole, FL, passed away Sunday morning (January 23, 2005). She was the wife of the late Wilfred Leo LeBeau. Beatrice was born in Lebanon, ME and was the daughter of the late Ole T. and Mable T. (Vickery) Olsen. Beatrice lived in Bristol, before moving to Seminole, FL when her husband retired from Bristol Post Office. She was also predeceased by her daughter, Alice Marie, a brother Ernest Olsen and a sister Roberta Pyre. She is survived by her three sons, Wilfred Leo LeBeau Jr. of Southington, Homer LeBeau and his wife Elizabeth of Bristol, Robert LeBeau and his wife, Charlene of New Britain where Beatrice was making her home. Beatrice leaves a brother, Norman Olsen of Niagara Falls, NY; three grand children, James and his wife, Peggy; Tracey and her husband, Scott; Michael and his wife, Sara. Eight great grandchildren and a great- great grandchild. She also leaves two brothers-in-law; five sisters-in-law; and several nieces and nephews. She loved fishing with her husband in the Gulf on their little boat named "The Three Sons." They later bought a trailer naming it "The last Penny." They traveled across country many times. She loved to knit, crochet and needlepoint. She also loved to do crossword puzzles and make puzzles. She also leaves behind her beloved dog Princess. Services will be held on Friday, January 28, at 11 a.m. at New Britain Memorial Sagarino Funeral Home, 444 Farmington Ave., New Britain. Burial will be at the Serenity Gardens in Largo, FL. FITCHBURG -- Lillian “Lil” (Leger) Boucher, 80, of 279 Daniels St., died Monday morning, Jan. 24, in HealthAlliance Hospital/Leominster, after a short illness. She was born on April 3, 1924, in Fitchburg, the daughter of the late Leo and Rita (LeBlanc) Leger. Mrs. Boucher worked for Marchetti’s Pizza for many years before her retirement. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Church. Mrs. Boucher enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She was also avid card player.She leaves her son, David Boucher and his wife, Barbara, of Fitchburg; her daughter, Cindy Bacener of Fitchburg; her five grandchildren, David Boucher, Jr., Peter Boucher, Steven Boucher, Shawn Bacener and Stacey Bacener; her great-grandson, Austen Boucher; and many wonderful friends. MANNETTE, Robert Harrison "Midge", Born August 17, 1939 and passed away peacefully on January 24, 2005. Midge was the beloved husband of Carole Mannette. Father of Michael and his wife Carol and his grandchildren Stephanie and Michael and his wife V anessa of Mississauga, Ont; Cindy Sherar and her husband Kevin and grandchildren Henry, Isaac and Nathan of St. Catharines and Carson and his wife Catherine and grandson Riley of Thorold. He is also survived by his sister Shirley Kay of Houston, Texa s and his brother Richard of Oakville, Ont. Midge was born in Timmins, Ontario and resided in Schumacher, Ontario, but headed south at an early age and made his home in St. Catharines. Midge always wanted to feed the world from the time he was a litt le boy, making french fries for his buddies from his mother's kitchen. He finally got his wish in 1984, when he retired from the trucking business, to pursue his career as a food concessionaire, which he did until the time of death. Cremation has tak en place. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, January 27, 2005 at Christ Church McNab, 1294 McNab Rd., Niagara-on-the-Lake, where the funeral services will follow in the church. MILLEN, Helen M. - On Sunday January 23, in her 68th year after a brave and determined five year struggle following a stroke and then cancer. Helen is survived by the great love of her life, Robert Frair, and seven children: Gwen Millen (David), Phyllis Millen Haircrow, Sandra Millen, Colleen Millen (Ryan), Earl and Nicki Frair, Rick and Tammy Frair, Laura and Rick Morrison. She was a loving and proud grandmother to Addison Dudeck-Millen, Tessa and Cody Olsen, Chris, Greg and Zach Frair, Kaitlin and Felicia Angulo and dearly loved by sister Doreen Bowers and Ronald, nephews John Bowers (Maretta) and Dan Bowers (Karen), and her aunt and uncle Helen and Fred McMaster. William B. Garneau, age 80, of Miami, Fla., went to be with the Lord on December 31, 2004, in Miami, Fla. Bill was born in Stratford, to the late Dr. Peter A. Garneau and Veronica Dargon, and is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Rosemary F. Garneau; one daughter, Patricia Barbara of Bradenton, Fla.; three sons, William C. Garneau and Michael W. Garneau of Miami; and James W. Garneau of Bethel; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Bill is also survived by his sister, Jeanne M. Richard of Trumbull; two brothers, John Garneau of Lighthouse Point, Fla., and James Garneau of Milford; and was predeceased by one son, Robert M. Garneau; two brothers, Pierre J. He lived in Connecticut for many years and had been a Manchester resident the past 10 years. He loved the outdoors, enjoyed fishing and the beach. Lucille C. Granger, 80, a resident of Bradley Royale Health Care Center for 14 years, died Tuesday (Jan. 25, 2005) in the emergency room at Provena St. Mary's Hospital, Kankakee. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at the Clancy-Gernon Funeral Home in Bourbonnais. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Bradley. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Kankakee. Memorials may be made to St. Joseph Grade School. Mrs. Granger worked at the Joliet Arsenal Shell Plant during the war. She was born Feb. 25, 1924, in Kankakee, the daughter of Leon and Ethel Hays Bertrand. Her parents are deceased. Her husband, Edgar Granger, whom she married May 10, 1943 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, died June 27, 2001. Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Peggy and Ronald Mancuso of Bradley; two sisters-in-law, Bernice Arseneau of Bourbonnais, Dorothy Granger of Bradley; three grandchildren, Joe and Sherri Mancuso of Herscher, Jim and Dana Mancuso of Bourbonnais, Pat Mancuso of Bradley; and three great-grandchildren, Brenden and Kelly Mancuso and Nick Windmiller. One brother, Gilbert Bertrand, is deceased. Mrs. Granger was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Bradley and the CCW. She was also a member of the Bradley VFW Auxiliary Post 6502. VALLIS, Brenda Nancy Victoria (Keene, Ont.) - Passed away on Friday, January 21, 2005, in the Palliative Care Unit of Peterborough Regional Health Centre, Roger St. Site, with her husband at her side, at the age of 64 following a lengthy illness. Borne in Ecum Secum, N.S., she was the daughter of the late Robert and Agnes (Pye) Ashton. She lost her hearing at the age of 18 months due to an illness. In her younger years she attended the School for the Deaf in Halifax. Following graduation she moved to Toronto and worked at Canada Post for 30 years. After retirement she moved to Keene, Ontario, with her husband Benjamin (Ben), who was formerly from Sydney, Cape Breton. She is survived by her husband of 32 years, her sisters Phyllis Morris, Janet Rudolph, her brother Ronald (Corinne) Ashton, all of Ecum Secum, N.S., and her brother Robert T. Ashton and sister-in-law Jennie Ashton of Halifax. Also missed by a number of nieces and nephews, and long-time best friend Lorraine MacDonald of Halifax. She was predeceased by her brother Stanley Ashton of Halifax and sister Maxine Matthews of Victoria, B.C. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who loved to garden and tell stories about her long life. She was a devoted Catholic and loved praying her rosary. She was 97, born on Nov. 24, 1907, in Arnaudville. As a young girl she enjoyed riding her horse and helping her father on the farm. She met her husband, Leonce Carriere, at a dance where her father played the violin. She lived in Port Arthur, Texas, for most of her life until she moved to Baton Rouge four years ago. She was a resident of Landmark Nursing Home, where she received tender and loving care from the staff. She died on Sunday, Jan. 23, 2005. LEE -- Joseph C. Savery, 78, of 185 Stockbridge Road died Sunday at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield. He was a longtime member and former chairman of the School Committee and a former member of the state Board of Education. Born in Pittsfield on Aug. 7, 1926, son of Joseph E. and Julia Pellisier Savery, he was a 1944 graduate of Pittsfield High School. He had lived in Lee since 1951. An Army veteran of World War II, he served in the Pacific theater from 1944 to 1947. Mr. Savery was employed by Western Massachusetts Electric Co., now part of Northeast Utilities Systems, from 1948 until his retirement in 1989 as manager of its real estate department. He was a licensed and bonded real estate broker, overseeing the company's rights of way for many years. He also sat on the utility's legislative and industrial development committees and community relations task force, and was an assistant director of economic development. He had worked at General Electric Co. in Pittsfield for a short time after the service. During the 1960s, he was on loan from WMECO to the city of Pittsfield to be executive director of its Urban Coalition. He was a communicant of St. Mary's Church, where he was a eucharistic minister and lector and former member of the choir. He was a leader for Boy Scout Troop 54 for more than 30 years and was awarded St. George's Cross by the bishop of Springfield for his many years as a Catholic scoutmaster. He was a past president of the Pittsfield Kiwanis and former member of the Lee Kiwanis, and served as lieutenant governor of the local Kiwanis district. A member of the Lee School Committee for more than 25 years, he was appointed in 1982 to serve on the state Board of Education by former Gov. Edward King. He was chairman of the Zoning Board of Appeals and the Lee Industrial Development Commission, president of the Massachusetts Association of School Committees, and a member of the Chamber of Commerce, Library Association, Society of Real Estate Appraisers and the advisory board of Berkshire Bank in Lee. He was a member of the Greenock Country Club and its Wednesday Morning League, the Lee Sportsmen's Association, Lee PTA and the Boys' Club Alumni Association. He also helped raise funds for local clubs and youth activities. He and his wife, the former Florence Gomes, would have celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary April 3. They were married in St. Joseph's Church in Pittsfield. Besides his wife, he leaves four sons, Joseph A. Savery of Windsor, Conn., Michael E. Savery of North Greenbush, N.Y., Thomas J. Savery of Pittsfield and Matthew J. Savery of Bozeman, Mont.; a sister, Mary S. Porter of Burlington, Conn., and seven grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Joseph Savery, who died Jan. 23, 2005, will be Wednesday at 10:15 from KELLY FUNERAL HOME in Lee with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 at St. Mary's Church. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visiting hours will be today, Jan. 25, from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the Savery family requests that donations be made to the Joseph C. LEWISTON -- Walda Beleckis Chantre, 83, of Maple Street, Hallowell, passed away Saturday, Jan. 22, 2005, at Central Maine Medical Center, with her niece at her side. She was born in Lewiston on Feb. 27, 1921, the daughter of Joseph Beleckis and Paulina (Patrick) Beleckis. She was educated in Lewiston schools and graduated from Lewiston High School in 1940.Walda worked many years in Auburn until she left to join her husband, Napoleon, in their Augusta business, Nap's Trading Post. Walda and Napoleon were married for 48 years before his death in 1994. She also was predeceased by a brother, Stanley, and a nephew, Arnold.She was a dedicated lover of nature and gardening. Before her illness, Walda had the magic to make any plant or flower bloom to its full potential, as she did for all the people who were fortunate enough to be touched by her kind nature and endearing dry humor. She is survived by her devoted niece, Paula Beleckis; "Aunt Wawa" knew she was always there for her.At her request, there will be no public visiting hours. Burial will be in Mount Auburn Cemetery, Auburn, at a later date. Arrangements are under the care of Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta.

BELFAST - William J. Violette Jr., 80, died Jan. 24, 2005, at a Bangor hospital. He was born Jan. 13, 1925, in Old Town, the son of William and Clara (Dupplise) Violette Sr. He worked in New England painting houses and in construction. He also traveled as an evangelist for many years and pastored in Sedgwick for several years. He was ordained as a four square minister. He enjoyed hunting, woodworking, gardening and the outdoors. He was predeceased by his wife, Gardys in 1996; a son, Ronald; and four brothers, Hector, Lewis, Leo and John; three sisters, Mary, Jennie and Rose. He is survived by three children, Darlene and Delmont Ward of Belfast, David Violette of Newburgh, Sharon and Mark Sullivan of New York; three grandchildren, a sister, Louise Jordan of Searsport. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, at Crabiel-Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Ave., Belfast, where funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 27, with Pastor Warren Heath officiating.
