YURCHUK, James (Jim), With grace, courage and strength and his family at his side, in his 69th year, went to be with his Lord at the St. Catharines General Hospital on Friday, November 26, 2004. Cherished husband of Joan, devoted father to Jody. Ado red grandfather of Sarah, Amanda, Robbie and Tamara. Dear brother of Irene Lewis (Herb) of Ventura, California, the late Bill (Norma) of Niagara Falls, Jack of Niagara Falls, Betty Merritt (John) of Guelph and "sweet" uncle to many nieces and nephews . Born in Thorold, ON on September 8, 1935, Jim has lived in St. Catharines most of his life. He is best known as the owner and chief candy maker of Yurchuk Candies, 100 Welland Avenue. Like his father and mother, Steve & Anna Yurchuk before him, he delighted a great many customers over the past 44 years with his chocolates and candies of unequalled quality and taste. Cecily was a beloved aunt who will be missed by all her nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews, in Canada and the U.K. She will be especially missed by Noella and Vic, Jeffrey, Todd, Allison and their spouses, as well as Maximus, Sierra, Jocelyn and Alex, to whom she was their great-grand aunt. Lulu Gilmer, 87 KEMPTVILLE -- Lulu Gilmer, 87, died in her sleep at Kemptville District Hospital on November 8. She was born August 19, 1917 in Hainsville, Ont., the daughter of William and Cecilia Fader. She attended Hainsville Pubic School. On September 1, 1934, she married Clifford Gilmer at Brinston. During her married life she lived in Pleasant Valley, Hainsville, Hyndman and finally Kemptville. Most of her life she was a housewife and homemaker, but after the move to Kemptville in 1958, she was employed as a grocery store clerk. Later she worked as a cafeteria worker at North Grenville District High School. She was a resident at Bayfield Manor for 10 years, first in the retirement residence and later in the nursing home facility. She is survived by her youngest son, Glenn Gilmer of Brockville and two daughters-in-law, Moira (Mrs. Glenn Gilmer) and Ruth (Mrs. Paul Gilmer) of Ottawa. Also surviving are grandchildren Heather Hughes, Randi Gilmer, Christina Duncan and Ian Gilmer, and great-grandchildren Ryan, Maggie, Nicole, Elizabeth and Andrew. She was predeceased by her husband Clifford in 1995 and son Paul in 1999, as well as one sister, two brothers and her parents. Friends called at the Grant Brown Funeral Home-Rolston Chapel, Kemptville, where on November 9 the funeral was held, with Rev. Angela Bailey officiating. Burial took place later that day in the family plot at South Gower Cemetery. The pallbearers were Douglas, Dalton, Randi and Ian Gilmer, David Duncan, Randy Hughes and Mike Valcour. WILLIAM POWER William James Power, born Feb. 18, 1923, passed away in Toronto on November 16, 2004. Bill was the first-born of the late John and Lila Power. Educated in Timmins, he began work in the newspaper business — reporting for the Timmins Daily Press and The Daily Commercial News and Building Record. Mr. Power worked at the Royal Ontario Museum before his retirement in 1988. Bill will be missed by his siblings Catherine Buesnel (Mac 1999), Charles (Geraldine 1978), Joseph (Margaret), Mary McCool (Leonard), Victor (Clarice), Clifford (Madeleine), Lila McNamara (James), Ronald (Joyce), Leonard, Elaine Boyes (James) and sister-in-law Gail Power (John 1992). Several nieces and nephews are also left to mourn. Parents and brother John predecease him. Bill enjoyed reading and short-story writing. MONFORTON, Rev Marc O.M.I. It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our brother Marc, at the age of 72 on November 20, 2004 after a courageous battle with cancer at St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg. Predeceased by parents Romeo (1954) and Lily (Ryan)(1984), brothers Nelson (1990), Leo (1997), sister-in-law Estelle (1996), brothers-in-law Joe Grady (1991), Paul Langlois (1999) and nephew Chris(1989). Father Marc is survived by brothers Lloyd (Luce), Orval Mignonne, Roy (Florence), Jim (Doris) all of River Canard; sisters Mary Jane Grady of Kinnebunk, Maine, Marguerite Reeb of Sarnia, Cecilia & Leona Langlois of River Canard as well as sister-in-law Carmel. He will be sadly missed by many nieces, nephews and cousins and many friends and fellow priests. Father Marc was ordained into the Order of the Oblates of Mary Immaculate at St. Joseph's Church in River Canard in 1959 by Bishop Nelligan. His ministry took him to many postings in Northern Ontario and Manitoba. A funeral Mass was celebrated last Wednesday in his parish of St Patrick's in Winnipeg and he was laid to rest in the St. Boniface Cemetery. A memorial Mass will be held at St. Joseph's Church in River Canard on Wednesday, December 1st, at 9:30am Donations to the Windsor Regional Cancer Centre would be appreciated by the family. Tom served for 2 years in WW II in the R.C.N. V.R. at Sea. He retire in 1980 from Jones & Laughlin Steel Co., Detroit, as a steel salesman. AMER, MariJo (Woolley) - Former feature writer and Women's Editor at the Peterborough Examiner (1961 - 73) and long time professor of communications at Sir Sandford Fleming College (1971-retired 1995) peacefully. at Peterborough Regional Health Centre Palliative Care on Friday, November 26, 2004. MariJo attended the Ryerson journalism program before moving to Peterborough with her former husband John (retired Examiner employee and Sports Hall of Fame member) in 1959. She earned her B.Sc. in Anthropology from Trent University. Formerly of Cambridge Street, MariJo lived at Citi-Centre for 20 years before moving to live with son Jeff this past summer during her illness. Born in Toronto on July 4, 1939, she was the daughter of G. Douglas and Mae (Brockington) Woolley. A unique spirit, with a fine sense of humour, MariJo was loved by her students, friends and family. She leaves behind sons Jay (Maureen) and Jeff (Andrea) of Peterborough, daughter Jenny and sister Grace Brammer (Chuck) and family of Yucaipa, CA. "Gramma Jo" will be sadly missed by her grandchildren Hannah and Jacob. A memorial service will be held at a future date. Michael Vallance, 56 PRESCOTT -- Michael Gene Vallance, 56, of RR 5, Brockville, died November 8 at Brockville General Hospital. He was born September 9, 1948 in Brockville to Richard Vallance and the former Jacqueline Knapp. He worked at the Black and Decker plant in Brockville for 37 years. In 2003 he retired and became manager at DRP Services Inc., a distribution, repair and packaging service for household appliances and power tools. He married Margaret Hamilton (nee Fossitt) on September 20, 2003 in St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church. His interests were his home and family, trap shooting, hunting, golfing and bowling. He is survived by his wife Margaret Vallance of RR 5, Brockville; two sons, Lance Vallance of Brantford and Michael Vallance and wife Charlene of St. John, N.B.; daughters Angie Bernard and husband Stan of Spencerville and Jennifer Vallance of Calgary; stepsons Mark and Mike Dawson and Brent Hamilton and wife Melody of South Carolina; stepdaughter Virginia Hamilton and her fiance Jason Donaldson of Ottawa; and grandchildren Michael Bernard, Michael and Mathew Vallance and Jacob Hamilton-Dinsmore. Also surviving are his stepfather Ronald Warren of Smiths Falls, brothers Gerald Warren and wife Heather of Smiths Falls, George Warren of Brockville, Tim Warren and wife Brenda of North Augusta and John Warren of Smiths Falls, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother, Jacqueline Warren. Friends called at the Chris Slater Funeral Home, Prescott, where on November 12 the funeral was held, with Rev. Dr. Helen Wilson officiating. The pallbearers were Mike Stephenson, Gary Cooper, Michael Vallance, Lance Vallance, George Warren and Gerald Warren. Cremation was at Hope Cemetery and Crematorium and a committal service was held November 16 at Hainsville Cemetery. Shirley Simpson, 72 SPENCERVILLE -- Shirley Simpson, 72, of Prescott, died at Brockville General Hospital on November 7. She was born on July 10, 1932 in Mountain Township to Johnston Cleland and the former Velma Gilmer. She attended school in South Mountain and after graduating from high school started her career in banking. She met her future husband Keith Simpson in the fall of 1951 and they were married on June 5, 1954 in South Mountain United Church. Mrs. Simpson worked for the Bank of Montreal until her son Lowell was born, at which time she stayed home until Lowell began school. She then returned to work for the Bank of Montreal. Later she took a teller position with the Royal Bank in Prescott and continued to work there for several years until she transferred to the Royal Bank in Spencerville, where she worked until her retirement in 1996. She was a member of St. Paul's United Church in Prescott. Among her many interests, she loved doing needlepoint, baking, gardening and growing flowers. She is survived by her husband Keith, son Lowell and grandchildren Tyler and Dylan. Friends called at Grant Brown Funeral Home-Purcell Chapel, Spencerville on November 9. The funeral was held in the chapel of the funeral home on November 10, with Rev. Carol Delisle officiating. Burial was at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Maitland. The pallbearers were Jack Murdock, Todd Simpson, Matt Hayes, Henry Smith, Guy Malisant and Eldon Bailey. Memorial donations to the Canadian Cancer Society will be gratefully acknowledged. SWEEZEY, Robert John (Bob) Peacefully at Providence Manor, Kingston on November 26, 2004. Bob Sweezey a longtime resident of Kingston, in his 86th year. William Nelson Harvey Funeral arrangements by Chapel Lawn Funeral Home It is with a great deal of sadness that we announce the passing of W. Nelson Harvey. He leaves to mourn his passing, his beloved daughter Glennis Joy Wilson (Don); his cherished friend and companion Jean Klascz; his grandchildren Michael Wilson (Ruth), Kevin Wilson and special friend Rose, Erinn and Bradley Harvey; great-grandchildren Jesse, Rebekah, Hannah, Daren, Samantha and Jennifer will sorely miss their “Grandpa Great” as will his extended family; daughter in law Suzanne Gette and her son Serge. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Joy; son Garry and his sister Muriel. He is survived by his sisters Evelyn Blackman (Larry) in Edmonton, AB and Mabel Carr in Neepawa, MB. Nelson was born William Nelson Harvey in 1907 in Nelson, BC. After brief stops in various parts of BC and AB, he and his parents arrived in MB and settled in the Dauphin / Ochre River area. In 1923, Nelson acquired his teaching certificate and taught school in the Ochre River area and in Morris, MB. During this period he met and married his much beloved wife Joy and began to raise a family. In 1936 Nelson looked farther afield and was accepted for employment in the Postal Service where he worked for two years before joining the Meteorological Service as a weather observer. It was then that he was introduced to the rapidly expanding world of aviation. He successfully applied for a job as an Air Traffic Controller in 1940 and was assigned to Winnipeg Control Tower. During 36 years in Air Traffic Control, he progressed through the ranks to become the Regional Director of Air Traffic Services in the Central Region which extended from East of Thunder Bay, ON to the SK / AB border. His approach to streamlining the traffic control system was both innovative and proactive and he will long be remembered as a fair and compassionate administrator. In recognition of his contribution to aviation, he was recently designated a “Pioneer of Aviation” by the Western Canada Aviation Museum. For many years Nelson's interest in photography occupied much of his spare time. He was a long time member of the Manitoba Camera Club. He was the recipient of many awards for excellence in photographic competitions and was much sought after for weddings and portraits. In addition to all of the above he somehow found time to travel extensively in North America, Europe and Hawaii. After retiring he wintered in Weslaco, Texas for six months of the year and during the summer at home he traveled in his motor home with his friend Jean and the Wandering Wheels Trailer Club. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the doctors, nurses and volunteers at the Grace Hospital Hospice. HEENAN, CHARLES JOSEPH (CHARLIE/CHUCK) Peacefully at the Royal Victoria Hospital, Barrie on Wednesday October 27th, 2004. Charles Heenan of Barrie was the beloved and only son of the late Marie Shatford. Fondly remembered by his two sisters Helen Turner and Doris Faulkner, his nephew, numerous cousins and friends. Charlie spent most of his life living and working in the Toronto area. In 1996, he retired to Barrie with his mother and their two Siberian Huskies (Blue and Jenna). Charlie enjoyed many hours of walking his beloved dogs throughout Barrie. A private family interment was held at Beechwood Cemetery, Toronto on Tuesday November 2nd, 2004. A memorial mass celebrating Charlie's life will be held at Guardian Angels Church, 115 West Street, Orillia, Ontario on Saturday afternoon December 4th, 2004 at 3:00 o'clock. Special thanks to Mary Bransfield who was a true friend and who with her family are caring for Charlie's two dogs. Also special thanks to Dr. Lindsay and the excellent staff at the R.V.H. who assisted Charlie over the past few months. TOMLINSON, ELETHA (Nee STEPHENS) Of Bracebridge, passed away September 26th, 2004, in her 91st year. Eletha kept her quiet composure, not complaining right to the end. Her very quiet sense of humour made it so easy to be with her, through her struggle with cancer and dealing with death. She enjoyed her children and grandchildren fervently, her solitude, the great outdoors. She was a contemplator and had such a great out look on life. Mom was a role model for accepting life on life's terms. One of her quotes was, "you have to learn to roll with the punches of life". I think her second name, should have been, Acceptance. She chose a very simplistic life, not requiring or longing for a lot, which in turn, left her very content with life and at peace. Eletha and her late husband Albert Tomlinson moved to Muskoka (Bala) in 1953 from Owen Sound with their four children Darlene, Sharon, Carol and Ross. Albert worked for Ontario Hydro. They moved to Bracebridge in 1968. Albert passed away in 1982 and Eletha remained in their home at Beaumont Drive, Bracebridge, until her 90th year. Mother of Darlene Fraser of Gravenhurst, Sharon Douglas of Owen Sound, Carol Williams-Bjorgan of Barrie and Ross Tomlinson of Calgary. Grandmother of Andrea Callan (Williams), Rob and Jeff Williams, Brent Douglas, Pam Morton (Douglas), Alison Robson (Fraser), Paul Fraser, Brian and Brent Tomlinson. Great Grandmother of seven. We would like to thank the Roberta Place Staff in Barrie for making Mom feel so comfortable, and for the love and care that they gave her. Leonard "Len" Henry Smith June 30, 1931 - November 21, 2004 Funeral arrangements by Sands Funeral Chapel (Duncan) Passed away peacefully at the Cowichan District Hospital on Sunday, November 21, 2004. Born in Westholme on June 30, 1931. Predeceased by his parents, Neil and Mabel. Survived by his siblings; Irene Olson (Fred) of Lake Cowichan, Elsie Smith of Vancouver, Gloria Smith (Ken) of Port Moody, Robert (Marilyn) of Chemainus, Albert (Colleen) of Ladysmith, Allan (Rosalind) of Ladysmith, Lawrence of Chemainus, also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and special friend Pauline Bellanger. Leonard and his brothers started Mount Sicker Lumber Company Ltd. in 1948. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and an all around outdoorsman. He was also a member of the family baseball team. A private family service was held. Interment in Mountain View Cemetery, Duncan, BC.
