Mr. Clarence Peter Adams June 28, 1923 - April 13, 2004 Born in Melville, Sask., June 28, 1923, passed away peacefully April 13, 2004 in his 81st year, at Richmond General Hospital, with his family at his side. Formerly a longtime resident of Ocean Falls, BC, he is survived by Rosetta, his loving wife of 61 years; son Brian (Colleen); daughter Brenda (Tewnion); six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ramona and June; and two sisters-in-law Beth and Gen.) A Celebration of his Life will be held Tuesday, April 20th at 2:00 pm at Our Saviour Lutheran Church, 6340 No. 4 Road, Richmond, BC. Flowers gratefully declined, rather a donation may be made in Clarence's memory to the Heart and Stoke Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society.

Mrs Diane Hart ( Ferland) HART Diane who was born in Montreal, Quebec passed away suddenly on April 13, 2004 in Victoria BC. Predeceased by her father Rene Ferland and mother Violet Ferland she will be sorely missed by her sons; Nico and Carlos (Cathy) Craveiro and by her siblings Loraine, Linda, Robert, Rene , Donald, Alan, Anita, Dennis, George, Joanne, Darlene and Debbie and their respective spouses, many nieces and nephews and her mother in law Rosa Craveiro and family. "Chauncey" was born in Chatham on March 28, 1916, lived in Kansas City for many years before returning to Chatham where he owned and operated Kent Driving School until his retirement. Breeta Linnea Nelson ( Listrom) February 11, 1922 - April 22, 2004 NELSON – On Thursday, April 22, 2004 Breeta Linnea of Regina and formerly of Percival, SK passed away at the age of 82 with her family by her side after a courageous battle with cancer. She was predeceased by her husband Robert in 1999, mother and father Julia and Martin Listrom, siblings Rune, Lawrence and Svea. She is survived by her daughter Linda (Stuart) Armstrong, granddaughter Shayna (Jayson) Miles-Ingram, great-grandchildren Kevin, Trinity and Quinn. Also extended family Darren (Lisa), Tim (Suzie) Armstrong and Jodi (Barry) Houlden and great grandchildren Sydney, Reece, Brady and Braxton, her brother-in-law Johnny (Joyce) Nelson, sister-in-law Florence Listrom and many very special nieces, nephews and friends. Breeta was born in Aspas, Sweden on February 11, 1922 coming to Canada at the age of 7. She enjoyed people, entertaining, crocheting and knitting. She was very proud of her Swedish heritage. Oke Emil Ketonen June 05, 1923 - May 06, 2004 Mr. Oke Emil Ketonen, aged 80 years, resident of Thunder Bay, passed away on Thursday morning May 6, 2004 at Thunder Bay Regional Health Science Centre. Born in Fort William to the late Emil and Hulda Ketonen and was educated locally at Ogden and Selkirk schools. He married Ada Couch who predeceased him. Oke served overseas in the Canadian Infantry Corps. in the UK and Canada during WWII from 1942 - 1946. He was employed at Bowater, retiring in 1983. He enjoyed fishing, and in his younger years, sports including his love for baseball, camping and travelling. Oke was a member of the Branch 6 Royal Canadian Legion and Local 39 Canadian Paper Makers Union. Survived by daughter Trudy (Kurt) Balkenhol of Kelowna, B.C., step-children Carol Starchuk and Bill Starchuk, eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Predeceased by his parents, wife Ada, sisters Ensi and Helen. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service for Mr. Oke Ketonen will be held on Monday, May 10, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Jenkens Funeral Home with Rev. Canon John Jordan officiating. Grace Carter - April 28, 1959 - May 06, 2004 It is with sorrow we announce the death of our mother, Grace Morag Carter on May 6, 2004. She was born to Edith and Duncan Carter on April 28, 1959. Bertha Screpnechuk June 03, 1917 - May 07, 2004 Bertha Veronica Screpnechuk passed away peacefully at the age of 86 with her grandson Kevin at her side. Bertha will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered. Bertha was born in Bydgoszcz , Poland and came to Canada with her family to live in Winnipeg. She married her beloved husband Peter in 1936 and is now survived by her two loving children Phyllis and Neil. Bertha is survived by grandchildren Kevin and his wife Michelle, and their children Alexandra, Christina and Felicia; Kathleen and her husband Barry and their children Michelle and Robert; Steven and his wife Christine and their children Curtis and Cory; Sandy, and Jason. Bertha is also survived by sister in-laws Mary Phillips, Annie Dawson; Helen and George Johnston; nieces and nephews Charlotte, Nick, Jerry, Wendy, Tim, Kim, Michael, Calvin, Helena, Lawrence, Delores, Terry, Rose, Tony, Angela, Helen, Stan, Teddy and Julie. Bertha worked at various hotels in Calgary as a chambermaid and loved to play hardball, Bingo at the Ukrainian Cultural Centre, cards, listen to music and dance. Her favorite event of each year was to watch the Ukrainian concerts in which her family over the years has participated in. In the past Bertha was an active volunteer at the Ukrainian Cultural Centre lending a helping hand when needed along side with her husband Peter. Bertha will be sadly missed by her pet dog Candy. Bertha was lovingly cared for by her daughter Phyllis in her home over the last few years and cared for by her grandson Kevin and his wife Michelle in their home previous to that. Shauntelle had a good sense of humor and would lift everybody’s spirits when she was around. She enjoyed socializing and made a lot friends. She loved music and singing since she was two years old. She attended Sandy Bay School, North Memorial School, Middletown School and John Taylor Collegiate in Winnipeg. After high school she worked for Walmart, Tony Roma’s and recently for Indian and Northern Affairs of Canada in Winnipeg. Shauntelle use to model in Winnipeg for a native modelling agency. She was also a jingle dress dancer and loved dancing at Pow wows. Shauntelle was loved and will be deeply missed by her father Randy Roulette, stepmom Lisa Roulette, mother Brenda Spence, stepfather Darryl Daniels and grandmother Doreen Spence. She leaves behind her brothers Terry, Randal, Vincent and Matthew. Sisters Helen, Savana, Tanya, Miranda F., Miranda M, nieces Natalia, Joey Mae and nephew Kadence. Numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and god parents Frank Kaszas Jr. and Debbie Beaulieu. She was predeceased by her grandmother Elizabeth Roulette July 2000 and grandfather Frank Kaszas August 1996. Elizabeth Ritchie ( McCallum) Peacefully, on Monday May 10, 2004, Elizabeth Ritchie, age 74 passed away at home. She was predeceased by her parents Judson and Elizabeth McCallum. Beth will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 53 years, Alex; children Michael (Helen), Doreen, and John (Joanne); grandchildren, Rick, Dave, Greg, Scott, Dylan and Lauren and great granddaughter Delilah. She is also survived by her brothers Donald (Clare) and Dan and sister Shirley Swan. Beth spent her working career as a foster mother and care giver to many children. In her later years Beth and Alex enjoyed their time spent at White Mouth Falls, and wintering in Yuma, Arizona. Mom had a love for pets, enjoyed bingo and playing cards with friends at the lake. She was a long time member of the United Church and most recently at St. Vital United Church. Agnor Bergeton Hanson - May 01, 1939 - May 09, 2004 - 65, passed away May 9, 2004, suddenly at home. Born May 1, 1939, in Tromso, Norway, he was a son of Hargurp and Bjorghild Hansen, Tromso, Norway. He is survived by sisters, Astrid and Odd Hansen and Bjorghild and Tore Johanssen also of Tromso; his wife, Mary Lou; son, A. Matthew Christopher Hansen. Agnor was recently retired from Rieber Shipping, Norway, where he was employed for more than 40 years. As a young man Agnor served in the Norwegian Army. He was a member of Somme Branch Legion No. 31, Dartmouth. Agnor was a man of great generosity, kindness and loyalty. He loved to build things. He was skilled at carpentry and he was a hard worker. He was often said to have the strength and energy of 10 men. He was a voracious reader and he spoke with passion about political events and the state of world affairs. Agnor was an avid fisherman and he appreciated his recreational times in the outdoors. He loved a good game of cards as many of his family and friends well know. He thoroughly enjoyed playing crib and his joy was greatest when he achieved a perfect crib. He was equally happy on the many occasions when he won in the many family games of 31. Family was very important to Agnor and he treated everyone equally well. You, Agnor, who teased so joyfully about others ability to play cards, and laughed heartily with that glint in your eyes, have made so many of us feel loved. We will always keep a space around our card table and in our hearts for you. You will be sadly missed by all who loved, respected and knew you and by those whose lives you have all too briefly touched. Karen L. Hamilton-Furlotte( Nee Laviolette) The death of Karen L. Hamilton-Furlotte of Fredericton, NB, wife of Allen J. Furlotte (A.J.) occurred at home on Sunday, May 9th, 2004, surrounded by her loving husband and friends. Born in Chapleau, Ontario and was the daughter of Charles Drummond Laviolette and the late Florence (McCord) Laviolette. As the only girl in a family that included three brothers, she described herself as a tomboy in her early years. The tomboy became a lovely young woman whose natural beauty and presence brought her to the attention of modeling and talent agencies in Vancouver. She accumulated acting and commercial credits in film, television, theatre, radio and print. Karen's career choice, however, took her in a different direction. It was natural for a daughter who greatly admired her father to join the staff of Canadian Pacific Airlines, where he was employed as a commercial pilot. Karen worked for that company for 23 years serving as a flight attendant, a purser, and a Flight Attendant Group Training Instructor. She also served as Assistant Supervisor of Personnel and Senior Hostess for the Canadian Pacific Pavilion at Expo '86. She was also a licensed private pilot. Karen left Canadian Pacific Airlines, and Vancouver in 1991 to make Fredericton, New Brunswick her home. For a period of approximately 5 years she worked part-time as a Co-ordinator of Special Projects for the Radio Atlantic Group, and devoted significant time as a volunteer to a number of community activities. In 1993, seeking new challenges, Karen attended Saint Thomas University in Fredericton. She was awarded a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science in 1996. Karen went on to acquire a law degree from the University of New Brunswick in 1998 completing a four year undergraduate degree in three years and achieved the highest marks in New Brunswick on the Bar Exam. Karen became a member of the Law Society of New Brunswick in 1999 and immediately joined the Fredericton law firm of Cox Hanson O'Reilly Matheson as an Associate in its Insurance Litigation Department. In May 2001 she accepted a position with the New Brunswick Department of Justice, where she served as a Deputy Superintendent of Insurance until her death. In 2001 she also met her future husband, Allen J. Furlotte (A.J.). Karen and Allen were married on December 10th, 2003. Throughout her time in Fredericton, involvement in the community was an important part of Karen's life. She served as an ESL tutor for the Multicultural Association of Fredericton, a Junior Achievement Company Program Advisor, a committee member of the Fredericton Region Habitat for Humanity, and a Board member and Vice-President/Secretary of the Fredericton Emergency Shelter. Karen was highly respected by her colleagues for her intellect, her integrity, and the courtesy she extended to everyone with whom she dealt. To all who knew and loved her Karen also will be remembered for her energy, her enthusiasm, her wonderful sense of fun, and her caring nature, as well as for the strength and dignity with which she lived the last months of her life. Karen is survived by her loving husband Allen, her father, Charles Drummond Laviolette and his wife Liz Laviolette of Langley, BC, her two brothers, Michael Laviolette and his wife Sunshine Kessler of Vancouver, BC, and John Laviolette of Vancouver, BC. She was predeceased by her mother, and one brother, Steven Laviolette. The family will receive visitors at River Valley Funeral Services, 50 Avonlea Ct., Fredericton, NB, (455-4267) on Wednesday May 12th, 2004 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. A memorial service will be held at Smythe Street Cathedral on Thursday, May 13th, 2004 at 2:00 PM with Pastor Verner Drost officiating. Charlie worked for 46 years with the Sherwin-Williams Paint Co. During the War 1939-1945 Charlie enlisted with the R. C. A. F. and was an aerial photographer. His great love of books and the importance he placed on education are gifts he gave to his children and grandchildren. He had several hobbies during his lifetime; photography, bird-watching, jelly making, and genealogy were his favorites. He valued his church and cultural community. He was active in and served on the executive of many organizations: St. Thomas More Chaplaincy, St. Paul’s Library Guild, Heritage Credit Union (now Cambrian), Sherwin-Williams Old Guard, Credit Institute of Canada, and St. Boniface Historical Society. Mass of Christian Burial to celebrate his life will be held on Thursday, May 13th at 10:00 a.m. at St. Thomas More Chapel, 66 Birchdale Avenue, with Father Lucien Roy presiding. Leo Paprosky July 14, 1923 - May 11, 2004 Born in Russia on July 14, 1923 and passed away peacefully with his family by his side at H.D.G.H.-Hotel Dieu Site on May 11, 2004. Late of Tecumseh. Beloved husband of Leona "Lee" (nee Tiede). Loving father of Dr. Wayne Paprosky of Chicago, and Gail and husband Rick Tolmie of Windsor. Dear grandfather to Nicole and Alexa Paproxy both of Chicago and Sheena and Christopher Tolmie both of Windsor. Will also be sadly missed by many family and friends. Leo was a graduate of the Ford Trade School, the owner of Meikar Roofing for over 35 years, Past Commodore of the Windsor Yacht Club and a member of the Masonic Lodge A.F. & A.M. William Alexander Slater February 19, 1922 - May 06, 2004 Mr. William Slater, aged 82 years, passed away on Thursday, May 6, 2004 at St. Joseph's Hospice with his family by his side. William was born on February 19, 1922 in Fort William to Victor and Janet Slater. On June 26, 1946 he married his childhood sweetheart Violet Edna Coleman. They enjoyed traveling and winter vacations in Mesa, Arizona where they met many friends. William worked until his retirement for the Board of Grain Commission. Prior to this he worked at the prison camp in Neys, Ontario. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Naval Association, Royal Canadian Legion Branch #6 and First Church United. William is survived by his wife Violet, children Vicki (Dave Wilson), Shelley Gedanitz (Bruce Gammond), only granddaughter Laurie Anne (Perry Berube) of Saskatoon (here), sister Margarite (Allan Read), sister-in-law Elda Slater (Comox), Hilda Murphy, special niece Betty Murphy and cousin Vera Pudas. Nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive. Predeceased by parents Victor and Janet Slater, parents-in-law Walter and Elizabeth Coleman, infant daughter Cheryl Lyn, brother Alex, son-in-law George Gedanitz, nieces Shirley Tabor and Dorothy Bulger and nephew Jack Murphy as well as numerous other relatives. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service for Mr. William Slater will be held on Monday, May 10, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at First Church United with Rev. Carl Triskle officiating. Doris "Dorrie" Rena Fulton (née Glover) April 17, 1923 - May 07, 2004 Doris Rena Fulton (Rendall nee Glover) passed away on Friday, May 7, 2004 at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre. A life long resident of Westfort she was the only daughter of Edward Hardcastle Glover and Rena May Marsh. She had five brothers: twins Clive and Floyd (d. 2001), Bob (d. 1941), Roy and Don. She was named after her beloved aunt Doris Janet Glover who was her best friend and support. The family was active and involved members of First Church United. Dorrie raised her three daughters, Marsha, Jane and Catherine on her own. She happily retired from Great Lakes Paper in 1976 when she married Alistair Fulton who has two children Rob and Lorraine. Dorrie will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all of her family: Alistair, Rob, Lynne and Lorraine Fulton, Marsha, Jim, Joanne and Christy Somerville, Jane, Bob, Paul and Adam Vet and Catherine, Ken and Hardy Hindle. Crystal Louise Hunter In the early hours of February 21, 2004, our beloved youngest child, Crystal Louise Hunter, was called to her heavenly rest. Left to mourn her passing are brothers Patrick (fiancé Lisa), and Evan, mother Donna Hunter, father Barry Hunter, step mom Debbie, stepsisters Krista and Jenny, grandmother Vi Hunter and grandparents Audrey Ross MacKenzie. Predeceased only by her paternal grandfather, George Hunter, she was loved and supported all her life by a devoted circle of aunts, uncles and cousins. Born in Swan River, Manitoba, Crystal was a sunny, active child, always striving to keep up with her big brothers. Moving to Arborg at the age of 7, then to Winnipeg Beach a year later, didn’t daunt her outgoing nature; many of the school chums she made along the way became her lifelong comrades. She was always a pleasant, hardworking student, successful in many subjects, but her true passion was for sports, initially Figure Skating at Winnipeg Beach, then later Track and Field, in Gimli. She often derived more joy from the thrill of competing and excelling than she did from the medals and trophies she was awarded. Always adventurous, she spent a year in Scotland on an exchange program with her mother and brother, traveling to many European countries, and learning about the world. After returning in to Canada, you could find her scooping ice cream at the Dairy Bee on weekends and holidays. Crystal lived every day to the fullest. Never backing down from a challenge, she could be ruthlessly outspoken and brutally honest at times, but underneath beat a kind and generous heart. After Grade 12 graduation, and one year at University of Manitoba, her future was still uncertain, with career aspirations changing almost daily. Working for Hudson’s Bay during the last six months of her life, she was where she most loved to be, living with her big brothers, and sharing dreams with her friends about their futures. These words from a friend have given us comfort and hope: “God took our darling to be an angel, because there aren’t enough angels to go around. A celebration of Crystal’s life will be held on Thursday, February 26th, at 2 pm in the Our Lady of The Lake Church, Winnipeg Beach with Reverend Lynn Stevens officiating.
