1927 - 2003 À Ste-Geneviève, le 8 août 2003, à l'âge de 76 ans, est décédé M. Alphonse Hauseux, époux de Marcelle Baudenelle. Outre son épouse, il laisse dans le deuil ses enfants Marcelle (Sanyi Surmack), Mary-Ann (John Auer), Christiane (Louis Beaudoin), Alain (Janet Huff) et Raymond. Il laisse aussi dans le deuil ses frères et soeurs Andrée, Armand, Arlette (Belgique), Alain (Canada), Anne-Marie (Arizona), ainsi que de nombreux neveux et nièces et petits-enfants. Les funérailles auront lieu à l'église St-Thomas A. Becket, au 4320, rue Ste-Anne, Pierrefonds, à 11 h le samedi 16 août 2003. (nee Staley) Died 3 August 2003 Peacefully in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia at home surrounded by her loving family. She gave unending, unconditional love and encouragement to her children and their spouses: Sharon Glover (Douglas Wilkins) of Salt Spring Island, British Columbia; Christopher Jones (Susan) of Dartmouth; and also to her deeply beloved grandchildren: Jason (Alessandra) of L'Aquila, Italy; Nicholas (Erin); and Jennifer, of Dartmouth. Mum was predeceased by her loving and beloved husband Owen in 1965. She is survived by her dearest sister Barbara Manning of Ottawa. She leaves us a rich legacy: love, courage, common sense, acceptance and a zest for life that was never-ending. She is deeply cherished by all of us who loved her and she will be held in our hearts and minds forever.

Suddenly at his sumêmer home, McCreary's Beach on Thursday, August 7th, 2003 Robert E. Dickey of Beech Creek, Pennsylvania; 30 year sumêmer resident of the Perth area. Beloved husband of Doris B. (Young) Dickey; Robert was the cherished father of Cathie Graham, Patti Miller and Joy Hackenberg; he will be sadly missed by his 4 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter and all his family. The funeral will be held from the Neff Funeral Home, Howard Pennsylvania (814-625-2552). Interment will follow in the Church of Christ Cemetery, Blanchard Pennsylvania. JOHN FRANK GREY John Frank Grey 91, of County Road 2, Lansdowne died suddenly of a heart attack at his residence July 30, 2003. John was born in Brookbury, Quebec on June 5, 1912 to the late Esau Grey and the former Katherine MacDonald. He spent his early years as a boy in Brookbury and attended the Brookbury Consolidated School and was a member of the Brookbury United Church. By the age of 16 he had lost both of his parents so he started working in the bush cutting and hauling pulpwood by horse and sleigh to help support himself and his younger siblings. Early in the depression years (1931-32) John, his uncle Stanley MacDonald, Alex Morrison and a younger brother Fred all moved to Timmins, Ont. He first started working for Kenny MacLeod ha uling lumber. John was later hired as an electricians helper at the Paymaster mine. When he joined the army in 1942 he was working as an electricians helper at the Hollinger mine. John married the late Jean Olive DeCaire on January 16, 1943 before he was sent overseas. He served in England, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. While overseas Jean lost their first born child, a son. He never talked much about the war. When the conflict ended in Europe in 1945 John immediately signed up to serve in the Pacific conflict. His younger brother Gordon, had been taken prisoner of war by the Japanese at Hong Kong and he wanted to find him. The Pacific conflict ended before he was overseas again. When he was discharged from the army in 1945 he and h is wife moved back to Timmins where he again worked for the Hollinger mine. On September 10, 1946 a daughter Helen was born. At this time he planned to stay in Timmins where he decided to get his electricians license because he had an opportunity to work for Ontario Hydro. At the same time his younger brother Gordon had returned from overseas and had found a farm north of the Village of Lansdowne for sale and wanted John to operate this farm with him. In March of 1948 John moved his family to th is farm north of the village. Shortly after the move they lost their 3rd born child, a daughter Katherine. For the next 26 years he operated this farm, Gordon had decided to work for the C.N.R. He also worked with his uncle Stanley MacDonald doing ca rpentry and masonary jobs in the area. When his uncle was unable to work any longer he continued working on his own as a carpenter and a mason. After his younger brother's death in 1972 he decided he didn't want to farm any more so he sold the farm i n 1973 and moved to his present residence in 1974. He built this home himself with help from family and friends. Since his retirement he enjoyed a quiet life. He loved to fix things and watch his vegetable garden flourish. Any extra vegetables were g iven to friends and neighbors. He was always ready to give a helping hand whenever needed. He enjoyed family and friends all of whom he made feel welcome in his home making sure they were provided with homemade goodies and a cup of tea or coffee. At the time of his death John was an elder of the Presbyterian Church in Lansdowne. He was also a past member of the Lansdowne Fair Board and the Lansdowne Rink Assoc. John is survived by his daughter Helen Lochead and her husband John of Lansdowne. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. John w as predeceased by his wife Jean on March 23, 1998, 1 son, daughter Katherine, his parents, brothers Fred, Gordon, sisters Mildred, Madeline, Margaret and Melissa and several brothers in law and sisters in law. Friends and relatives called at the Tomp kins Funeral Home, Gananoque August 1. On Saturday, August 2, funeral services were held from the Lansdowne Presbyterian Church. Reverend Gregory Blatch officiated. Interment was held in Union Cemetery. Pallbearers were Herbert Coates, Scott Coates, Dave Gilbert Sr., Kees Paldervaart and Brian Powell. Honorary Pallbearers were Eric Truesdell, Lloyd Brown, John MacDonald, Gordon MacDonald, John Haffie, Bruce Foley and Omar Smith. Respectée ancienne directrice du ``Chaudier Rose Room and Golf Club'' d'Aylmer, Québec, est décédée paisiblement à Ottawa le vendredi 8 août 2003 à l'âge de 80 ans. Elle était l'épouse bien-aimée de Aime Stafford depuis 57 ans. Elle fut prédécédée par ses parents Fred Seccull et Elizabeth Maloney. Elle manquera vivement à ses enfants chéris: Gail (Jean-Claude Racicot) de Gatineau, Linda (Louis Ferreira) de Gatineau et Gary de Gatineau. Elle laisse également 8 petits-enfants, 4 arrière-petits-enfants et plusieurs neveux et nièces ainsi que son amie de toujours, Jeannine Disipio à qui elle manquera aussi beaucoup. ARMAND (ARNIE) DUSEIGNE Peacefully at home on Thursday, August 7, 2003, Arnie, surrounded by his loving family, left this world to be welcomed into the arms of Jesus. Arnie was born August 16, 1939 in St. Boniface, MB. At the age of 3 his family moved to the Homebrook (St. Martin) area. In 1960 he married Sylvia Klypak in Ethelbert, MB. They then went on to raising 3 loving children in Winnipeg. He was predeceased by his father, Pierre, in 1981; and his mother, Georgiana, in 1985. To cherish his memory, Arnie is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Sylvia; his three children, son Brett (Jennifer), granddaughter Nicole; son Dale of Dryden, ON; daughter Donna (Eric) and granddaughters Sarah and Dominique of Montreal. He is also survived by his siblings Renee (Don) Holmes of Sardis, BC, Albert of St. Martin, Rolande Fenning of Hanna, AB, Roger (Pat) of Winnipeg and Denis (Reta) of Dryden, ON; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. For 37 years Arnie was employed by Manitoba Hydro where he made many life long friendships. Arnie was well known in the music entertainment world, especially in the Interlake and Dauphin areas. His beautiful singing voice will be fondly remembered by many a bride and groom and their families whose weddings and anniversaries he performed at. Also dear to his heart, he enjoyed farming, fishing and hunting. Arnie was loved by all. He touched many hearts and lives with his warm smile and gentle demeanour. The family wishes to extend their sincerest gratitude to Kathy Kyryluk and staff at CancerCare, St. Boniface Hospital, nursing staff of 5A and 5E, the Palliative Care Program of St. Boniface Hospital, especially nurses Lynn, Doris, Kris and all the other personal care givers (you know who you are!) and the case coordinators at HomeCare. Special thanks to Dr. B. Gorski, Dr. Gary Schroeder, Fr. Sean Cahill and Fr. Wayne Morrisey for their kindness and compassion. A heartfelt thanks to the family, friends and neighbours for their love and support during this difficult year. Thank you all so very much! Carpenter and draftsman by trade, Peter retired from the Federal Government (N.D.H.Q.) to the place he loved the most, his garden with all of his flowers. A Family Service was held.

Douglas was currently serving as the President of the Board of Directors of the Montreal Chinese Hospital. Devoted community volunteer with the Fond de Depannage de l'Ouest de l'Ile. Retired engineer from St-Lawrence Seaway Authority. He is survived by his loving wife of forty-three years, Rita, adoring children Stephen (Shawna), Eric (Christy) and Ann-Louise, grandchildren Alexander, Jeremy, Rachel and Nathan, brother Eric, sister Sara (Albert Lee). FLORENCE CHALLIS Florence (Robinson) Challis passed away peacefully in Winnipeg, Man. on Saturday, Aug. 9, 2003 at the age of 87. Florence will be lovingly remembered by her children, Deborah (Ernie), Adrian (Ellen), Bradford (Nazaneen), Elizabeth (Joe), and Stephen (Gila); and grandchildren, Donald, Kate, Daniel, Tanya, Stephen, Nicolai, Aaron, Frank, and Jonathan. She also is survived by her sister, Winnifred Green of Warwickshire, England; and nephews, Timothy (Emma) and their children, Harry, Charlotte, and Edwina of England, and Michael (Luciane) and their children, Daniel, Nicholas, and Natasha. Florence was predeceased by her husband, Harold, in 1970; and her sisters, Jane Cobb and Louise Robinson. Florence was born, raised, and educated in Cardiff, Wales. At the age of 17, she moved to London to train as a nurse. There, serving as a Hospital Sister at University College Hospital, she met her husband, Dr. A.W.H. (Harold) Challis. Family lore has them meeting in the operating room as their eyes met over their surgical masks. They were married at the height of the war, and Florence continued to serve as a nurse while Harold served in the British Army as a doctor in Africa and Burma. She vividly recalled her wartime experiences, and often told stories of the rationing and bombing of London. Florence and Harold were reunited at the end of the war and in 1950, immigrated to Canada with their two children. Harold established his medical practice in Fort Frances, Ont., while Florence created a warm and loving home for Harold and their five children, residing most of her life on Armit Avenue within minutes of La Verendrye Hospital and the river. On many summer days, Florence, Harold, and their children would travel by boat up the Rainy River to their cottage on Rainy Lake. Many of her fondest memories were of events and celebrations that took place at the cottage with her family and their many friends. Florence, an avid golfer and long-time member of the Kitchen Creek Golf Club, continued to golf until this year. Her attitude about her golf game reflected her approach to life: you have some good shots and bad shots, but you only remember the good ones. Florence loved to travel and each year went to England to visit her sister, Win, and to Florida to visit her long-time friend, June Smith. Many people’s lives were touched by Florence; she took an interest in everyone, whether close family, friends, or acquaintances. She worked tirelessly for the community, especially through her many hours of volunteer work for the La Verendrye Hospital Women’s Auxiliary. The family would like to thank Dr. Brian Johnstone, the nurses at La Verendrye Hospital, and the staff at Riverview Health Care Centre in Winnipeg for the care and support they provided Florence and her family. A celebration of Florence’s life will be held Thursday, Aug. 14, 2003 at 10 a.m. at St. John’s Anglican Church in Fort Frances, Ont. In lieu of flowers, friends, if they wish, may make donations to the Riverside Foundation for Health Care in Fort Frances.

JEANSON-Marie, Josephine, Clara, Florence (nee LACHANCE) August 24th, 1913-July 25th, 2003 It is with sadness that the family of Florence Jeanson announce her peaceful passing in St. Ann's Nursing Home in Saskatoon. She was born on August 24th, 1913 at Ponteix, SK to the late Thomas and Leotine (Belanger) Lachance formerly of St. Come de Beauce, Quebec. She was predeceased by her husband, Ernest Jeanson of Val Marie, SK whom she married on November 25th, 1940. Mom will especially be remembered for her courage and determination in facing adversity. Her deep faith in God, simple wisdom nurtured through a strong Catholic spiritual tradition, and acceptance of everyone regardless of their states in life were the legacies passed on to her children. Mourning her passing are her five children and their families, Alice (Fred) Burlinguette, grandchildren David (fiancee Natasha), Brian (Pat) and great grandson Braden; Irene (Dave) Hall, grandchildren Barbara (John) Spilsbury and great grandchildren Robyn and Sydney, and Jason (Rebecca); Eugene (Joyce), grandchildren Jarrod (Suzanne), Jeffrey and Jodi (fiance Ryan); Cecile (Paul) Charlebois and granddaughter Simone; and Ray (Gloria) and grandchildren Kari (David) Bergmuller, Joni, Sara (Ryan) Seabrook, Aaron and Daniel Jeanson. Surviving Mom are her brothers, Elie Lachance of Vancouver, Eugene (Margaret) Lachance of Sunnybrook, AB; and her sister, Yvette Goffinet-Douville of Ponteix, SK. Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated Monday, August 11th, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Spirit Roman Catholic Church, 114 Kingsmere Blvd., Saskatoon. Concelebrants of the mass are Father Denis Phaneuf, pastor of Holy Spirit Parish and long time friend of the family; and her nephew Father Raymond Carignan from Gravelbourg. HILTON, Marjory Evangeline (Nee Gonnet) - Passed away in the loving care of the Palliative Care Unit of the Peterborough Regional Health Centre, at dawn on Wednesday, August 6, 2003 in her 86th year. Marjory was predeceased by her parents Selena Rees and Julian Gonnet and her beloved husband Glyn and by her brothers Ivan, Cecil and Lennox. She is survived and will be dearly missed by daughters Glynis Hilton-Devitt and Beverley Hilton and son-in-law Bill Devitt, the grandchildren to whom she was so dedicated; Andrew Hilton-Wigg and Laurel and Robbie Hilton-Devitt and her nephew David Armstrong and grandniece Carolyn Dupuis. We give thanks for a beautiful and courageous life well lived. Mum was a devoted Christian full of love for her friends and neighbours who gave her such joy and support, and her family such comfort. Mum was a member of Trinity United Church for 45 years, active in the UCW and Sanctuary Guild. She served her community in a number of volunteer capacities including the Red Cross Blood Donor Clinic. She was an enthusiastic member of the St. David's Welsh Society. As World War II drew to a close she was a soloist with the Masquers Concert Troupe sponsored by Eatons. Our heartfelt thanks to the special human beings who work in the Palliative Care Unit, Royal Gardens, The Peterborough Community Access Centre, The Red Cross Society and Dr. John Beamish and Sherry Condon. Tom is also survived by brothers Fred (Dorothy) and Robert Leslie of Toronto. Predeceased by his brother George. A celebration of Tom's life will follow at a later date. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, the former Kay Pineau; sons, Gary (Debbie), Pictou; Keith (Dianne), Toronto; daughter, Suzanne (Wayne) Bezanson, Pictou; grandchildren, Jason, Kevin, Brent, Ryan and Danielle; sister, Marion Shaw, Saint John. He was predeceased by brothers, Emile, Raymond, and Pius; sisters, Alice, Eva, Marjorie, Emma and Alma. Visitation will be 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Sunday in McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou. In his sixty-first year, resident of Burlington, Ontario, died suddenly on Thursday, August 7, 2003. He will be greatly missed by his wife Rosemary, daughter Lizabeth Pirstl and son-in-law Mark Ladouceur. Richard moved to Burlington in 1982 from Montreal, Quebec He graduated from Concordia University in 1975 with a Bachelor of Comêmerce Degree. He spent a large part of his career with Atomic Energy of Canada, in both Montreal and Mississauga. JOSEPH EDWARD ASSELIN Joseph Edward Asselin, 73, of 36 Rawn Rd., Atikokan, Ont., passed away peacefully at the Atikokan General Hospital in Atikokan on Saturday, Aug. 9, 2003. He was born April 12, 1930 in Dilke Township (Pinewood), Ont. Ed married Greta Miniely on Sept. 4, 1953 and together they came to Atikokan in 1954, where they raised their family. Ed worked at the Steep Rock iron mines for 27 years. Following the mine closures, he worked in the mines in Pickle Lake, Ont. and Ignace, Ont., keeping his home in Atikokan. Ed always could be found in his garage, where he spent his spare time “tinkering,” Ed is survived by his wife, Greta; son, Ron (Sue) Asselin of Atikokan, Ont.; son, Randy Asselin of Thunder Bay, Ont.; and daughter, Cheryl (Kevin) Shmyr of Atikokan, Ont. He also is survived by his grandchildren, Nicole (Mark) Bingham of Atikokan, Ont., Angela (Shawn) Anderson of Atikokan, Ont., Amanda (Aaron Johnson) of Atikokan, Ont., Amanda’s dad, Todd James, and Michelle Asselin of Red Rock, Ont.; and great-grandchildren, Marni, Shawnte, and Cael. He also is survived by his brothers, Roland Asselin of Sleeman, Ont., Leo (Rose) of Saskatoon, Sask., and Rene (Bev) of Thunder Bay, Ont.; sister, Irene (Al) Lougheed of Thunder Bay, Ont.; asister-in-law, Sherrie Asselin of Fort Frances, Ont.; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, David and Albertine Asselin; brothers, Dona Asselin and Sid Asselin; and sisters, Lola Gaudette and Rose Wilson. Cremation has taken place, to be followed by a private family service at a later date.
