John Woodburn Wylie Passed away suddenly at Strathaven Life Care Centre, Bowmanville, Ontario, on Saturday, January 18,2003 at 55 years of age. John was predeceased by his parents, Rev. George and Daisy Wylie, aunts and uncles James and Mildred Wylie, and Betty Wylie, Toronto, Verna Ferguson, Inverary. Mrs. Fred Teppett (Evelyn), Kingston and cousin Glenn Ferguson, Inverary. He is survived by, and sadly missed by his aunt, Mrs. Jack Keir (Margaret), Inverary, and cousins Jean and Keith Mellow, Ron and Eileen Teppett, Kingston, Jacqui and Frank Campbell, Gananoque, Marilyn and Ron Bellringer, and Colin and Carmen Keir, Inverary, Nancy and Tyrrill Reid, and Donald Wylie, Toronto, and their families. John will also be fondly remembered by Donald Smith and family, Bob Palmer, Jim and Robin Hobbs, and Bessie Mellow. John was born in Oakdale, Ontario, and lived in Otterville, Wallaceburg, Scarborough, Oshawa, and Bowmanville. The church was always an important part of John’s life, and he was an active member of Faith United Church in Courtice where his funeral was held January 21, 2003 with Rev. Cyril Abramson VANCOUVER, BC - Cyril Abramson passed away peacefully at UBC Vancouver Hospital on February 7, 2003. Born in 1916 in Moose Jaw, Cyril began his career as a signal operator with the CNR. He served as sergeant with the Canadian Army Signal Corps from 1940-1945. His last 33 career years were spent as Secretary Manager of the Moncton Branch #6 Legion on Botsford St., where he hosted many community organizations, obtained the Meritorious Service Medal and initiated the building of war veterans housing. This prompted his adamant refusal to move into seniors care housing in Vancouver noting, "I refuse to move anywhere that you can't play poker for money". A newspaper article once noted that Cyril was a modest man whose knowledge of and compassion for his fellow man were unique. Cyril was constantly and quietly helping many local residents from the Moncton Chief of Police, to the sideshow worker in Bill Lynch Shows, to students who needed support for sports or university, to Coalpile Eddie. He was a founding officer in the long-running Maritime Sports Draw which supported several good charitable works. Cyril's first loves were his family, baseball, horse racing and poker, all of which he pursued with a passion. He was the Chief Electoral Officer for Federal and Provincial Elections, served many roles with the Moncton Kinsmen and Keith Lodge Masons and was a Federal Civil Defense official helping with many search and rescue operations, including the Springhill Mine Disaster. Cyril was much loved and will be sadly missed by his children and their families, Brian, Jean and Tara (Toronto), Sherry, former husband, Reg, and Matt and Bill (Vancouver), Bill (Vancouver) and Steve (Toronto); his sisters, Phyllis and Edith; and many nieces and nephews. Many thanks to long time care workers, Emma and Eden, and heartfelt appreciation to the staff at UBC for their compassion, especially Daisy, Glen, Brenda and Evil. Cyril had requested no service but a plaque will be placed beside one for his wife, Eleanor, on a memorial bench behind UBC Hospital. If you wish to honor his passing the family asks that you continue his spirit by doing an act of kindness for someone.

She is survived by her husband Alyre Richard; two sisters, Mai Maillet (Ronald Bourque) of Moncton, Zella LeBlanc (Patrick) of Bouctouche; four brothers, Elias (Georgina), Lionel (Irène), Alban all of Bouctouche, Emile (Claudine) of Richibouctou; three grandchildren, Diane, Donald, Michel; several great grandchildren; and several nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by one adoptive daughter, Dorilla; two sisters, Jeanne and Elise; two brothers, Alyre and Phillippe. Marceline Mary Perry MIRAMICHI, NB - Marceline Mary Perry widow of Joseph Perry of Petrie Street, Miramichi, NB passed away at the Miramichi Regional Hospital on Friday, February 14, 2003 at the age of 98. Born in Farisle, NB she was the daughter of the late William and Constance (Robichaud) LeBlanc. She was a member of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church and loved to knit for her grandchildren. She is survived by two daughters, Rita Astle of Lower Derby and Elva Rousselle of Newcastle; daughter-inlaw, Estelle Perry of Newcastle; 23 grandchildren; 39 great grandchildren; and 11 great great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by two sons, Everett and Francis; one daughter, Catherine (Kate); one brother, John Baptiste; five sisters, Mary, Genieve, Delia, Pauline, Clara and Emise; grandchildren, Elva, Donald, Charlie and Harrison. Dave Thomas FORT FOLLY FIRST NATION: On February 14, 2003, Dave Thomas, age 65, of Fort Folly First Nation, passed away at the Sackville Memorial Hospital. Born in Moncton, NB, he was a son of the late Peter and Kathleen (Bernard) Thomas. He was a member of the Canadian Navy serving a long prestigious career of 25 years from 1954 to 1979, retiring with the rank of Petty Officer First Class. After returning to Fort Folly he went to work at the Dorchester Penitentiary as supervisor of electronics. Dave was the Chief of the Fort Folly First Nations for 7 years from 1990 until his retirement in 1997. Dave will be sadly missed by his wife of 23 years, Marion (Cady) of Fort Folly; his daughter Michelle Soulodre of Winnipeg, MB; step-daughter, Linda Maddox (James) of Dartmouth, NS; three grandchildren, Ben, Valerie and Jason; four great grandchildren; his Aunt Dorothy Nye of Dorchester and several cousins; one half-brother, Patrick McCarron, Florida; two half-sisters, Marie Roberts of Oldtown, Maine and Kathleen McCarron of Florida. He was predeceased by his brother John. The remains are resting at the Jones Funeral Home, 70 Bridge St., Sackville, NB (364-1300) where the visiting hours will be held on Saturday from 7 to 9 and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. She is survived by three sons, Ron Franklin of Texas, Jan Lynn Franklin (Bev) of Wrentham, Mass., Edmond LeBlanc (Kathy) of Lakewood, Colorado; five grandchildren, Colleen, Sean, Melissa, Matt and Philip. She was a member of the Eastern Stars Chapters (Excelsior and founding member of Rosemount - St-Lambert - P.M. '59) and the order of the Amaranth. She was a life-long member of the Presbyterian Church. While at the "Centre" she became the patients' representative on the Board of Directors for eight years, as well as an aid to less mobile patients. A sincere heartfelt and gracious thank you to the wonderful staffs at the Centre de Soins Prolonges, in the hospital, home, and infirmary sections, for their tender loving care over a period of twenty-two years. William Joseph Buckley Longtime Employee Dupont - Kingston (Maintenance) A lifetime resident of the Kingston area William "Bill" Buckley passed away January 26, 2003 at the age of 58. Bill was the son of the late Joseph and Lily Buckley. He attended Central Public School and QECVI in Kingston. He was one of the original members of the Kingston Grenadier Drum and Bugle Corps. From the early age of twenty, he was employed by Dupont Canada where he was trained in the field of mechanic. Bill was an excellent craftsman. He was especially adept at making models of old ships and antique cars. He enjoyed the friendship of his fellow employees at Dupont. Bill is survived by special friend Barbara Reid; sisters Patricia Wood (Jerry) and Irene Harvey; nieces, nephews, great nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, sister Betty and brother-in-law Tom Harvey. The funeral was held January 30, 2003 with Canon Bob Hales officiating. Pallbearers where nephews Reg Walton, Jim Harvey, Dave Gilmour; cousins John and Jim Adams and his lifetime friend Bill Hopkinson. The eulogy was delivered by nephew Reg Walton with a special tribute from the friends "brothers of Dupont" read by Peter Boswell. Carmel Bartsch (nee Kenny) Retired School Teacher Following a brief illness, Carmel Bartsch passed away at the age of eighty-five. Born in Enterprise, Carmel was the daughter of Anthony and Bernadette Kenny. She attended Notre Dame Convent in Kingston and attained her teaching certificate at Ottawa Normal School in 1936. Throughout her teaching career, Carmel held many positions as teacher and principal. She retired from St. Patrick’s School, Erinsville in 1979. Carmel was an active member of the Catholic Womens’ League at Annunciation Parish, Chippewa as well as at St. Brendan’s, Rockport. A talented organist and soloist, Carmel assisted at many weddings and funerals. She is survived by her husband Gerald of sixty-three years and their children Don (Loretta), Oshawa, Bob (Gwen), Bancroft, Eleanor Wagar (Lyall), Amherstview, Paul (Joan), Sherwood Park, Alberta, Keith (Helen), Kingston and her sister Marguerite Brennan (Harold), Lonsdale. She was predeceased by her daughter Mary Kenny, granddaughter Michelle Bartsch, and daughter-in-law Marlene Bartsch. As well she is lovingly remembered by fifteen grandchildren and twenty-one great grandchildren. Father Leo Byrne, Father Peter Murphy, and Msgr. Daniel Kevin Norgaard Danny was a stone mason by trade but an artist at heart. Be it with music, tie dye, sculptures, computer design, gardening or stone work, creativity and deep thought were his talent and passion. He had a keen sense of adventure and love for the outdoors. He continually worked on self betterment and the desire to be `great’. A great musician, a great designer, a great stone mason. His continued education, self taught guitar and hours on the computer demonstrated his determination to try new things and succeed. He was our great dane, our mighty Viking. His solidarity was by choice as his life was surrounded by long time friendships and family bonds. His social nature was his stress release and always enjoyed relaxing at home with friends. Orval “Babe” Lapalme 1929-2003- The family announces with sorrow his sudden death on Thursday, February 13, 2003 at the Timmins and District Hospital at the age of 73 years. Survived by his loving wife of 50 years Viola (née Landers). Beloved father of Aline (René) Lauzon of Sturgeon Falls, André (Liliane) Lapalme of Toronto, Denis (Cathy) Lapalme of Nepean, Rosanne (Luc) Desjardins of Porcupine and Michel (Patti) Lapalme of Whitby. Devoted grandfather of 14 grandchildren: Franny Jeffrey, Katherine, Allain, Ly-Anne, Gabrielle, Jennifer, Michelle, Sylvie, Natalie, Chantal, Adam, Jeremy and Maddy. Also left to mourn is his sister Aline (Marcel) Gauthier of Sudbury and brother Raymond Lapalme of Timmins. Predeceased by his son Gerald in 1962 and by his parents John and Lauria Lapalme. Babe was born December 9, 1929 and worked for the City of Timmins until his retirement. On July 17, 1952, he married his loving wife Viola. He coached the Moose Minor Hockey for many years and will be sadly missed by all who knew him. BLADE, Henry Gordon "Hank" In Peterborough on February 8, 2003. Loving husband of June (nee Tate) and father of Henry Arthur and Andrea Essie of Miami. Born in Peterborough. Loving son of the late Arthur and Margaret Blade. Survived by sisters Madeline (Brig. Gen. Maxwell Clarke) and Doris (Hampton MacKenzie) of Ottawa. Predeceased by sisters Helen (Howard Hall), Barbara (Stewart Williamson) and Lenore (Hilton Tresidder). Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Hank served overseas with the R.C.A.F. and on his safe return joined the NHL’s Chicago Black Hawks organization as a team player. He was also a successful businessman. George Mankiss 1920 - 2003 George Mankiss, 82, husband of Marjorie (Gilbert) of Riverview, passed away at the Kenneth C. Spencer Memorial Home on Wednesday, February 12, 2003. He was a decorated veteran of the second world war, serving overseas with the Canadian Armed Forces. He is survived by his wife, Marjorie (Gilbert) of Riverview; stepson, Don Gilbert (Marion); daughter, Elizabeth Howard; son, Michael Mankiss (Sherri); grandsons, Marc and Andrew; great-granddaughter, Alexandria; as well as several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Internment in Woodlawn's Cemetery, London, Ont. Contributions to the Alzheimer Society would be appreciated. Originaire de Causapscal, elle s'est impliquée toute sa vie dans de nombreux organismes dont le Cercle des fermières, la Commission scolaire des Monts et Marée, et le Théâtre des aînés. Elle laisse dans le deuil de nombreux amis et parents, tant à Ste-Thérèse, Montréal et Causapscal qui n'oublieront jamais son merveilleux sourire et sa personnalité exceptionnelle.
