MASSÉ, Lionel The family announces with sorrow his death, Saturday, January 18, 2003, in Sudbury, at the age of 74 years. Son of the late Romeo Massé and of the late Marie Ange Massé (née Savard). Husband of the late Jeannine Yvonne Massé (née Van Buskirk). Loving companion of Marg Mac Donald of Sudbury. Beloved father of David (wife Nancy), Diane Lambert and Tracey Massé (friend Jason), Suzanne Desormeaux (husband Victor) and Steven Séguin (wife Terry) all of Sudbury. Dear brother of Fernand (wife Theresa) of Sudbury. Predeceased by his sisters Yvette Dubé and Yollande Emond. Sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his grandchildren Robert, Tamara, Christopher, Kayla, Kaleb, Kyle and Erin. Mr. Massé was a retired mechanic for Meredith Connelly Motors. NASON, DEBBIE Debbie passed away on January 19, 2003 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was surrounded by family and friends. She departed this life as she lived it - taking each day at a time and enjoying it for what it gives you. Her husband and soul mate Charles and her two loving children, Andrew and Scott, will deeply miss her but are grateful for all the times they shared together with her. Her memory lives forever in their hearts. Debbie is the daughter of the late Harry and Maryanne Nason of Fredericton. Debbie was passionate about her family. She enjoyed all family activities, whether they be day to day activities, seasonal - like skiing or special - like traveling to Australia. Her passion for chocolate, lobster and Charlie's wine was well known. Travel memories were many with the "Aussies" Vic and Shirley. As a long term employee of River Valley Health Corporation, lastly as Director of Therapeutic Services, Deb was determined to make a difference in people's lives and to improve the healthcare system. She valued tremendously the expertise, commitment and friendship of her colleagues. Debbie was recently awarded a Canadian Association of Social Work award to acknowledge her contribution to social work in the Province. Visitation will be at McAdam's Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 22 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service and celebration of life service will take place at the J.A. McAdam Memorial Chapel on Thursday, January 23 at 6:30 p.m. The family will be putting together a book of cherished memorials and invite friends to share their written memories or photos of Debbie. These can be brought to the visitation, funeral service or sent/delivered to their home. The family, friends and colleagues have established the Debbie Nason Social Work Bursary at Saint Thomas University. In lieu of flowers, donations to the bursary or the charity of your choice would be appreciated. The family would like to extend deep appreciation to all family, friends, health care workers/volunteers and the "sitters" who were there during her illness. Predeceased by her father, a brother Hazen, step-father William Miller and a niece. Savoie, passed away on January 19, 2003. She was the daughter of the late Joseph E. Caissie and the late Elizabeth Rousselle. She is survived by her son, Leonce (Joan) from Fredericton; one sister, Josephine Gionet from Bas-Caraquet; two brothers, Ovila from Saint John and Edgar from Fairisle; two grandchildren, Andrew (Stephanie) from Saint John and Mary Catherine (Scott Jack) from London, Ontario; two great grand-children, Keir Jack and Gabrielle Savoie. CONNORS, DANIEL EDWARD Daniel E. Connors of Cork passed away January 19, 2003 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital. born in Cork in 1919, he was a son of the late John and Catherine (Donahue) Connors. Dan served in the Canadian Army during World War II including the Battle at Hawkwald Forest. He also worked for many years with Canadian Pacific Telecommunications. During the past four years Dan was a resident of the Veteran's Health Unit in Fredericton. His family would like to thank the staff of the Unit for their care and attention. He is survived by two sisters, Mary (Duane) Golden of Tracy and Lucille Kyle of Harvey; a brother, Joseph (Mildred) Connors of Cork; several nieces, nephews and two step-grandchildren. Dan was predeceased by his wife Louise, step-daughter Carol Moore and a brother-in-law, Tom Kyle. Resting at Swan Funeral Home, 1826 Highway 3, Harvey Station with visiting hours Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at Immaculate Conception Church, Cork on Wednesday, January 22, 2003 at 10 a.m. by Rev. HAWKINS (BROOKINS), TERI-LEE - "He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty." (Psalm 91). Teri-Lee clung to the words of her favorite psalm as she did to life itself. Despite being diagnosed, at the early age of 30, with A.L.S. (more commonly known as Lou Gehrig's Disease), in August of 1995, and being 14 weeks pregnant at the time, Teri-Lee remained the pillar of strength and the inspirational force behind all those who loved her and struggled to understand her disease. At home on Sunday, January 19, 2003, at the age of 38, it was time for Teri-Lee to say a peaceful good-bye to her friends and family. A week after Teri-Lee gave birth to a beautiful baby girl, Erin-Lee in January of 1996, she went on life support. She was able to go home from the hospital two months later. While on life support, Teri-Lee managed to make trips to New York, Halifax, Nashville, Seattle and church. She also made a trip to see the Confederation Bridge with her husband and daughter. The fact that Teri-Lee became paralyzed early on in her disease, in no way kept her from doing what she loved best: being a devoted mother to Erin-Lee. She organized everything from making out grocery lists, to what her daughter would wear each day, to training her care-givers. Teri-Lee never took the easy road. In six months, Teri-Lee typed four pages of a letter to her daughter, Erin-Lee, using only her chin and a device attached to her computer. She persevered until she was satisfied with what she had written. Teri-Lee never gave up. The people who rallied around Teri-Lee, whether it be her family, friends, co-workers, those she knew through volleyball, Father Alvin Westgate, who devoted Wednesday evenings to prayer with Teri-Lee, or those who didn't know her, but were touched by her story, are a testimony of the great love and faith she lived by. Teri-Lee was a young woman who took tremendous joy in life. When she was well, she was actively involved with sports (especially volleyball), friends, and instructing at the Community College. She was instrumental in setting up the Saint John Chapter of the A.L.S. Society. Even after her illness left her paralyzed, her enthusiasm was evident in the way she tackled household affairs, visited with friends, and encouraged others. She always said that, "despite appearances, she had a good quality of life." And, when you look at the impact her life had on those around her, it's hard to disagree. Teri-Lee loved life until the end. Teri-Lee is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Donnie, and beautiful daughter, Erin-Lee. Teri-Lee was the youngest daughter of Jack Brookins and the late Phyllis (Melvin) Brookins. Also, she is survived by two sisters, Crystal Layden of Moncton, and Sharon Brookins of Saint John, one brother, Johnny Brookins of Saint John, and a truly devoted friend, Patty Mersereau of Saint John. Teri-Lee is resting at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB, (506) 634-7424. Visiting will take place on Tuesday from 7-9 PM and Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 23, 2003 at 11:00 AM from Church of St. John the Baptist (Mission Church) and St. Clement's, 815 Millidge Avenue, with Father Alvin Westgate officiating. Interment will follow at Fernhill Cemetery. A reception will follow the interment at the church hall. BLACK, KATHLEEN MAIDA (BRIDGES) - The death of Kathleen Maida (Bridges) Black, of St. Martins, NB, passed away on Sunday, January 19, 2003, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Kay was the wife of the late Hartley Black. Born on December 24, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Everett and Elizabeth (Yeomans) Bridges. Kay was predeceased by brother Roy, sister Anna Moore, her granddaughter Monica Black and infant great-granddaughter. She is survived by sister Thelma Greer, son James Black (Sharon McDonough), daughters Twila Greer (Kent Belding), Bette Ann Chatterton (John), Debra Withers (Malcolm), nine grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews. Kay was a long time member of the St. Martins Lodge LOBA # 1190 and the St. Martins United Church UCW. She loved to play `Bingo' and `Scramble' and to watch her `ball games' and `hockey games' on television. Although Kay had restricted mobility in her later years she enjoyed drives to the `Fundy Trail' and attending `Fiddling Concerts' with Hartley. Kay' wit and love are gone but not forgotten. Colonel (ret) MBE, O St-J, CD Royal 22 Regiment Passed away on January 19th, 2003, at the age of 87. He is survived by his beloved wife Helene (Bournival) Letellier after 62 years of marriage, his three sons Michel (France Lacoursiere), Marc, Yves (Lucie Gratton) and his twin daughters Danielle (Frank Genesee) and Therese (Francois Reid) together with 13 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by one grandson, Alain. He will be deeply missed by his sisters Marguerite Letellier and Lucienne Byrne and his brother Roger Letellier (Irene Boivin) and also his sisters-in-law Carmen Lajoie Letellier (Jean-Marc) and Mary Fowler Letellier (Pierre). Colonel Letellier was born in Ottawa on July 20th, 1915 and obtained, in 1934, his Commission as an Officer with the Regiment de Hull. In 1939 he enlisted in the regular Army and was sent to England in 1942 to be part of the 4th Armoured Division. At the end of the War, he was stationed with the 1st Canadian Army Headquarters in Germany and returned to Canada in 1946. Posted in Ottawa, he held different positions at Canadian Army Headquarters, most notably as resident officer at the University of Ottawa from 1946 to 1948. He became Commanding Officer of the 3rd battalion of the Royal 22 Regiment from 1957 to 1960. Thereafter he was posted in Vietnam as part of the International Control Commission. In 1962, he was promoted to the rank of Colonel and became director of studies at the Army Staff College in Kingston, Ontario. He retired from the Canadian Forces in March 1969 and became Director General of Bilingualism and Biculturalism for the Department of National Defence and the Canadian Armed Forces until his final retirement in 1977. Clarence is survived by sons Peter (Anne) of Ottawa, Paul of Washington State, and daughter Sarah of Vancouver. JOHNSON, ROBERT E. – Des funérailles privées pour la famille ont eu lieu pour Robert Johnson, domicilié dans le canton de Kendall, décédé paisiblement le 13 janvier 2003, à l'âge de 79 ans, à l'Hôpital Notre-Dame de Hearst. Il était né le 17 octobre 1923 à Norquay, Saskatchewan. Il habitait la région de Hearst depuis 1983. Au moment de sa retraite en 1979, il était à l'emploi du ministère des Transports à Ottawa. Vétéran de la Deuxième Guerre mondiale, il a servi dans les Forces Armées Canadiennes dans plusieurs campagnes du 29 décembre 1941 au 7 juillet 1968. Il fut précédé dans la mort par ses frères Clayton et Wilf, sa soeur Irène. Il laisse dans le deuil son épouse Mildred, née Emêmerson; 4 fils : Bruce, Marc, Eric et Ian; 1 soeur : Freda; 2 soeurs : Alice et Jeannine; 1 frère : Lester ainsi que 10 petits-enfants. He was a longtime employee of Canadian Pacific, past president and scholarship committee chair of the Traffic Club of Montreal, volunteer for the Cancer Society, Heart and Stroke, Scouts Canada, provincial Liberal Party and active in municipal affairs, St. Thomas a Becket warden, choirmember, social club, founding member of Becket Players, and keen supporter of FANIA (Honduras). A life highlighted by travel (to China in 1983 and many wonderful trips thereafter) and by countless celebrations with family and friends. Neighborhood "jack of all trades." Proud Canadian. Passed away after a short illness at the Brantford General Hospital, Brantford, Ontario on Saturday, January 18, 2003 with his sister Colleen comforting and caring for him. Loved forever by best friend and sister Colleen Colpitts, kid sister Brenda O'Carroll-Pringle, big brother Michael O'Carroll, and devoted brothers-in-law Allen Colpitts and Doug Pringle. Also loved dearly by his nieces Kerry and Kim and nephews David and Duncan, each of whom he was so proud of. Truly missed, too, by his devoted friend and companion Linda and second-best buddy "Fat Boy", Pat filled all the spaces around him with laughter, charm and infinite possibilities. KOHLS, Donald Harold In loving memory of Donald Kohls who passed away on Sunday, January 12, 2003 at Extendicare Falconbridge in Sudbury, after a lengthy illness. He was born on January 17, 1927 in Biscotasing, Ontario. He went to work for the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources (formerly Department of Lands & Forest) at the age of 15 years. He was transferred from Missanabie, Ontario (Chapleau District) as Chief Deputy Ranger in 1961 to Windy Lake Park (Sudbury District) as Chief Deputy Ranger and Park Superintendent and stayed there until he retired in 1981. He was a very hard working man who built his own home when he returned to Biscotasing after his retirement. Don was a very meticulous person and you could tell by the great pride he took in his home and yard. Dear son of Herman Frank Kohls and Mary Louise Kohls (nee Staag) both predeceased. Beloved father of Glen Kohls (Terry Malette) of Hanmer, Brenda Mouland (Mike) of Mississauga, Carolyn Dubblestyne (Dan) of Brampton and Debbie Guthrie (Stephen) of Sudbury. Sadly missed by grandchildren Curtis, Lindsay (Gary Caesar), Krista, Adam, Jefferey, Jacob, Amanda and Amy and great-grandchildren Jordan and McKenna.
