Passed away in Florida with his family by his side, on Friday, March 8, 2002, Tony Zafeeris in his seventy-ninth year. Tony was the beloved husband of Dorothy for fifty-two years and the cherished father of Mary (Danny) Radice and Kathy Zafeeris. He was the loving and devoted "Poppy" of Daniel and Nicholas Radice. Tony is survived by his brother Jimmy, his sisters Katina Kikos, Jenny Bouris, Stella Karras and Diana Kritikos. Predeceased by his brothers Johnny and George and his sisters Koula, Irene and Mary. Formerly of Ottawa, it is with infinite sorrow that Vivi, Stephanie and Jamie announce Jim's death from complications of leukemia at the age of 59. Jim was released from his suffering shortly after midnight on March 6, 2002 in the ICU of the Toronto General Hospital. Also left to mourn are his step-mother Kay, cousins, brothers and sisters-in-law, their children and a host of friends and former colleagues. The family held a private farewell. With sorrow we announce the loss of our dear feisty little Scottish Aunt Helen McBain Russell Rowat, loving wife of the late Melville M. Rowat on March 9, 2002 in her 98th year. Helen was residing at Robertson House retirement home for the last two and a half years where she was very happy and contented, and we are so grateful for the wonderful care she was given by all the staff at Robertson House. Helen came to Canada in the late twenties leaving all her family and friends in Scotland. She resided with an aunt for the first year and gained employment with the Chateau Laurier Hotel where one of her duties was caring for the residential suite of Rt. Hon. R.B. Bennet, Prime Minister. She loved to ski, skate, step dance, and swim. She and her friends would come out to Long Island locks and that is where she met Melville, married and worked side by side with him on the farm for fifty-seven years. Mel and Helen were always a towering strength to all the family, caring for our grandparents, and giving a helping hand to our parents and all of her nieces and nephews whenever it was needed. They were both active members of Manotick United Church. Those of us left to mourn are nephew James Rowat (Barbara) and their children, Scott and Krista, nieces Rhoda Harris, Doreen Wiggins (late Cliff), great-nieces Sharon Hawkins and Calyann Williams. Predeceased by Marion Hawkins (late Laird), Karen Williams (Charles) and Jean Macdonald (Ian) of Australia. Helen's wishes were for cremation, no visitation. There will be a graveside service at time of interment of urn in the Spring. Died suddenly on Montreal on March 8, 2002 in her eighty-eighth year. Beloved wife of the late Ivan Keywan, dear mother of Orest of Sydney, Australia and Zonia (Yaroslav Harchun) of Montreal, and grandmother of Andrey and Alexi (Sydney) and Simon and Julia (Montreal). A physician and writer, she was born in 1914 in Ukraine, studied medicine in Poland and spent the post-war years as a refugee in Europe. Upon coming to Canada, she settled in Edmonton, where she lived for almost fifty years and played an active role in many Ukranian community organizations. Her last years were spent in Montreal. Funeral service will take place at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 13, 2002 in the chapel of the Centre Funeraire Cote-des-Neiges, 4525 chemin de la Cote-des-Neiges. 1937 - 2002 Edward (Ed) Wylie beloved husband of Clara Wylie (nee Schlenker) of Calgary, passed away suddenly on Thursday, March 7, 2002, at the age of 64 years. Ed was born and raised in the Ottawa Valley. He came out west as a young man in the early 50's. Ed married Clara in 1962 and together they then raised their family. Ed thrived on the work and friendships he found during his long successful career in the oil field. Besides his loving wife, Ed is survived by his children, daughter Heather Wylie; son Guy Edward Wylie of Calgary. He is also survived by three brothers, Lawrence John (Betty), Torrance (Andree) and Paul (Joyce); three sisters, Catherine Harty (Michael), Francis Cartwright (Al); and Margaret Wylie (Ed Pundyk), aunt, Teddy Wylie-McGinn, and many nieces and nephews.
