HUMPHRIES, Samuel (Sam) George Peter On November 4, 2009, Sam passed away at the age of 68 years after a 5 year battle with multiple myeloma. He is survived by his wife and best friend of 44 years, Sharon; daughter, Cindy; son, Jay and pal Kep the dog. Sam is also survived by brother, David (Marilyn) Humphries of Abbotsford, BC; sister Mary-Anne (Doug) Sinclair of West Vancouver, BC; brother-in-law Ross Hartwell of Comox, BC; mother-in-law, Myrtle Watts of Edmonton, AB; brother-in-law, Cameron (Kyler) Clement of Leduc, AB and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Sam was predeceased by parents, Samuel and Doris Humphries of Medicine Hat, AB and sister, Deanna Hartwell of Comox, BC. Sam was born in Drumheller, AB on January 26, 1941, raised in Medicine Hat, AB and moved to Edmonton in 1959 to attend the U of A. He worked for the E.P.S.B. as a teacher and administrator for 33 years. He enjoyed the outdoors, sports, music, woodworking, traveling and time at his cabin at Pigeon Lake. Sam was an avid supporter of the Oilers. Sam will be missed greatly by his family, who are happy that he is finally free. There will be an Open House with the family on Tuesday, November 10th, 2009 between the hours of 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. at Hainstock's Funeral Home, 9810 - 34 Avenue, Edmonton. LYNNES, Ida On November 5, 2009, Ida Lynnes of Sherwood Park, AB, formerly of Swift Current, SK, passed away at the age of 99 years 7 months. She is survived by her daughters: Marian Szmutko, Shirley (Joe) Godwaldt, Diane (Ed) Szmutko; her son, Dennis (Leone) Lynnes; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren; extended family and friends. She was predeceased by her husband, Olaf Lynnes; infant daughter Marilyn; parents: Synev and Severn Hendrickson; ten siblings and son-in-law, Frank Szmutko. Ida was born at Sheyenne, North Dakota on March 23, 1910 and immigrated to Canada in 1918 to the Pennant district. In 1937, she married Olaf Lynnes. They were married for 61 years, farming at Pennant and Moosomin. They returned to Swift Current in 1956. Celebrations of Ida's life will take place Monday, November 10, 2009 at 3:30 p.m. at Trinity Baptist Church, 22550 Township Road 530, Sherwood Park, AB as well as on Wednesday, November 11, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Olaf's Lutheran Church, 665 Central Avenue, North Swift Current, SK. MONTPELLIER, Francis (Frank) September 19, 1931 - November 2, 2009 Frank Montpellier was predeceased by his mother, Blanche; his wife, Julie and sister, Florence Robinson. Frank is lovingly remembered by his sister, Olive Lind and by the following nephews and nieces, Don Lind, Bill (Lenora) Robinson, Billy Jr. and Patrick; Barbara (Ed) Hwytka, Timothy and Melanie; Debbie (Ken) Seniuk, Adam (Annie) and Luke; Wendy Robinson, Trent and Spencer. In addition to a host of family and friends, Frank will also be deeply missed by the Godbout family. Frank served for three years in the Korean War and worked in the plumbing trade for many years in Edmonton.The family extends heartfelt thank to Frank's neighbors, Dave and Doug for all of their help and kindness and also to Emil for his friendship and kindness in taking Frank for his treatments at the W.W. MILES, Audrey Pearl (Stephenson) Beloved wife, mother, granny, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend, passed away in Richmond, B.C., on November 1, 2009. Born in Montreal, Audrey went to work early, married fifty-one years ago, and spent busy years raising her two children and supporting her husband, the Rev. Thomas Miles, in his ministry. Always strong and thinking to the future, Audrey later gained her BA and teaching qualification at Concordia University, and taught many lucky students in Montreal schools before retiring to British Columbia in 1999. Audrey worked tirelessly as a volunteer, and she will be fondly remembered for her caring personality, kindness and gracious hospitality to family, friends and visitors. Audrey was predeceased by her parents, John and Pearl Stephenson, and by her sister Jocelyn Toope (Frank) and brother John Stephenson. She is survived by her loving husband, Thomas, her daughter Susan (Norman) of Edmonton, son Tom (Valerie) of Yellowknife, sister Shirley of Edmonton, and adoring grandchildren, nieces and nephews. OBITUARY GEORGES ANDRE RHYN 1915 - 2009 Died Monday, October 26, 2009 at his home in Dorval. Predeceased by his wife Noreen and his beloved son Jan. Survived by his daughter Susan. Born in Marnaz, France, Georges was educated at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts and at the Ecole des Arts Decoratifs in Paris. He came to Montreal on holiday, married and raised his family in the West Island. His career took him to Ottawa where he designed international exhibits for the Canadian Government. Upon retirement, he devoted himself entirely to his painting. Georges was a kind, gentle man known for his keen intellect and his enormous artistic talent. He was much loved and respected by his daughter Susan, his sister Suzanne, his many friends and his community of Dorval. MARTY WISE (1946 - 1969) IN MEMORIUM Forty years ago today on November 7, 1969 my brother Marty died suddenly at the age of 23 in Toronto after a difficult journey along the Mediterranean. There are many explanations for the death of such a brilliant and promising young doctor. Some say he died for love, or maybe from the pain of loss, or maybe even in enlightenment, without ego. But I say that he died of youth. Being young, he could only see the present and not beyond. He did not yet understand that life always moves in cycles, in waves that ebb and flow, in lows and highs, often gently, but sometimes with tremendous force, like the powerful tides of the ocean. HOPKINS, Edward Alan Dec 21, 1938 - Nov 02, 2009 He will be deeply missed by Melanie (nee Grant), his wife of 48 years, his son Christopher (Wendy), his daughter Lisa, grandchildren Hans and Tyler, brothers Peter and Geoffrey, and his sister Carol. Alan led an extraordinary life, moving his family to Ghana, West Africa in the mid-60's, traveling the world at every opportunity and telling engaging stories of his many adventures. Specializing in restoration architecture, his volume of work is evident all over Ottawa and the Gatineau Hills, including such projects as: Connaught Bldg., 465 Sussex Drive apartments, 138 St. Patrick Street, NCC skate shacks on the Rideau Canal, PM's Summer residence on Harrington Lake, Theatre de l'ile in Hull, Symmes Hotel in Aylmer, Mooreside Tearoom, Kingswood Estate and Speaker's residence in Kingsmere, McKinstry Ski Lodge and the NCC renovation of the Wakefield Mill. Among the many unique private homes he designed are the three for his family and of course the infamous paddle wheeler on the Gatineau River, the "Chrisalis II", his summer home. Alan's family wishes to thank their dear friends and neighbours for their kind love and support as well as the wonderful staff and doctors at our gem of a hospital here in the Gatineau Hills. McKISSOCK, William Craig (Bill) 1938 - 2009 Suddenly at home in Okanagan Falls, B.C. after a brief illness, at the age of 71. Loving partner to Joanne Grimaldi. Predeceased by daughter Shelley. Survived by Margo McKissock (nee Craig), daughters Victoria Murphy (Lee), Sandy Finnigan (Peter), and Tracey McDonald (Terry Sametz), and sister Norma Cooper. Papa to Sarah, Sean, Ted, Liam and Emma. Uncle to Blair Mayes (Kathi), Pat Clements (Arthur), Bill Craig (Cathy), Kathy Dodson (Al), and Julie Craig. Bill will be missed by an extended group of family, friends and colleagues across Canada and around the world. Proud member of Canada Customs for 35 years, and founding Inspector of Ottawa's detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (O.P.P.) Auxiliary for 14 years, Bill had a widespread international network of policing colleagues and friends. TUTTLE, Adney Clifton Died November 1, 2009 at the age of 78 on Saltspring Island, B.C. Adney is survived by his beloved wife Gwenyth and their three daughters Alison, Kelowna, Sandra (Larry O'Gorman), Ottawa, Karen (Corey Sharman) McKinney, Texas and 5 grandchildren, Sidney, Caroline, Kylie, Liam and Calum and his brother William Tuttle and family from Medicine Hat, Alberta. Adney met his wife and best friend Gwen in 1955 while working in Williams Lake; Gwen, a registered nurse from Sydney, Australia and Adney, a Constable with the RCMP. In 1964, Adney completed his Commerce Degree while attending Carleton University. In 1974, Adney then spent a year at University Laval mastering French. He retired in Ottawa from the force as Chief Superintendent, he then transferred to the Solicitor General's Office as a consultant. He and Gwen retired to the McLennan Valley, Saltspring Island where he traded in his red serge for flannel and riding boots for gum boots. We wish to thank Dr. Ron Reznick and the nursing staff at Lady Minto Hospital for all their support and compassion. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Lady Minto Hospital. A service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, November 21, 2009 at the Gospel Community Church, 147 Vesuvius Bay Road. Wild, Alice Victoria (Sis) Wild, Alice Victoria (Sis) was born on March 18, 1921 in Brockington, Saskatchewan and passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 5, 2009 in Regina, SK. Alice was the fourth child of five born to Arthur and Selma (Sandberg) Elsner. She was predeceased by her husband, John Wild; parents, Arthur and Selma Elsner; siblings, Alma (Mike) Sereda, Roy (Ivy) Elsner, and Donald Elsner. Alice is survived by her sister, Laura Edin and thirteen nieces and nephews. She was a very dear and special aunt, and will always hold a special place in the heart of her nieces and nephews. Alice was a strong and determined lady, who worked hard all her life and always took time to share her blessings with others. Alice and her husband, John, met in Melfort where they both worked. They moved to Regina as young people, and worked hard to develop a loving home that was always open to family and friends. Herrold, Jessie Gertrude 83, a resident of Juneau, Alaska, passed away November 2, 2009 in Seattle Washington. She was born and grew up in the Anglia, SK district. She was the daughter of William Ernest and Mary Gertrude (Mitchell) Duff. After her high school in Anglia she completed a business course at Success Business College, Saskatoon and she worked as a secretary in Saskatoon, Rosetown, and Langley Prairie, BC. In 1951 she moved to Juneau and worked for the Daily Alaska Empire. After a short time she began working for the Fish and Wildlife Service (Wildlife Management). In 1955 she transferred to the National Marine Fisheries Service division and worked there until her retirement in 1990. She married Arthur Herrold in 1952. Following her retirement she was active in volunteer work, church activities, several organizations and travelling. She was a spoon collector and frequently attended spoon conventions. Jessie is survived by her brother, Gordon Duff, Halifax; nieces, Joyce (Ron) Thorstad, Saskatoon, Beverley Cratty, Whitehorse, YK, Colleen (Keith) Pen, Cocalla, Idaho; nephews, Brian (Marilyn) Mitchell, Elmira, ON, Kenneth Waddell, Red Deer, AB, Dennis Cratty, Rosetown, Billy Cratty, Whitehorse, Morris Cratty, Whitehorse, Byron Cratty, Rosetown and Ronald Cratty, Macklin. COLBY Norris Allan 1919 - 2009 Allan passed away peacefully November 2nd in Gibsons, B.C. He will be missed by his wife of 66 years, Gwen, son Norris (Maya), daughters Teresa and Marion (Jerry), four grandchildren: Catherine, Patrick (Devon), Meris, Laura, sister Ethel (Jack) and brother Charles. He served in Europe with the Canadian Army during WW11, returned home and raised a family in Coquitlam. Allan was employed as a machinist, built houses, was a Boy Scout leader and dabbled in politics. He was an avid outdoors man. On retirement he and Gwen moved to the Sunshine Coast. Allan happily worked with his friends at the Sechelt Seniors Centre, contributing to security and maintenance. Many thanks to all his health care team on the Sunshine Coast, and in particular, the caring staffs at Green Court and Christenson Village. No service at his request. MacKENZIE - Jessie Ann Louise 1913 - 2009 After more than 96 years, Jessie went to be with her Lord in Heaven on November 3rd. Born in Cranbrook, B.C., she was predeceased by her loving husband Harry who passed away in 1989 after 54 years of marriage. She is lovingly remembered by her children Marilyn Richards (Dick), Sharon Lubin (Bill) and Gordie MacKenzie (Jennifer); Her grandchildren Dave Richards (Sharon), Rob Richards, Tricia Mugford (Duane), Michael MacKenzie, Jordyn MacKenzie Black (Keith), and Jamieson MacKenzie and her dearly loved great grandchildren, Bethany, Becca and Nate Richards, Rianna Richards, Erin, Evan and Audrey Mugford, and Haley Charnock, who affectionately refer to her as Gigi. Jessie and Harry were founding members of Granville Chapel in 1950 and attended there for the rest of their lives. Jessie's family, friends, and people she met were very important to her. McELROY - Carman Robert May 7, 1929 - November 2, 2009 In loving memory and with deepest sadness, we announce the sudden passing of our beloved husband; father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Predeceased by his father Carman Wilson McElroy 1964, and mother Bernice Edna Brown 2005. Survived by his loving wife of 50 years Marianna and their six children; Paul (Colleen), Kathy (Chris), Linda (Randy), Ray (Donna), Alex (Kelley), Michael (Kim). Poppa also leaves behind 18 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren, as well countless cousins and friends in Canada and the USA. Formerly from Vancouver, where he was born and raised. He attended Charles Dickens Elementary as well King Ed High School. He excelled in Baseball and Soccer. In 1962 Carm moved his family to Richmond, where thereafter he coached Minor Soccer. Carman and his father went into business Carmacs Cartage, he later sold the company, and went to work for the Fisheries then BC Packers in Steveston. POOLE Kathleen "Margaret" On November 5, Kathleen Margaret McGregor Poole (1917-2009) passed peacefully into the presence of the Lord she loved and served all her life. She was predeceased by her dear husband Bernie Poole (1986), granddaughter Heather Kessler, sister Matilda McRae, brothers Nesbit and William McGregor. Margaret is lovingly remembered by her children Hazel (Bill) Kessler and Marnie (Mike) Goheen, and her grandchildren Christopher (Tasha), Jonathan, Jennifer and Owen Kessler; Erin (Mark) Glanville, Ben (Mylana) Goheen, Brittany (Dave) Groen and Brielle Goheen; great-granddaughter Phoebe Goheen. Margaret grew up in Kitsilano, met Christ at the age of 16, lived in London, ON during WW II, graduated from Vancouver Bible Institute, served as a missionary in Chile and in the mission home in New Jersey where many experienced her loving hospitality. She and Bernie retired to Vancouver where her friendship and gentle compassion extended to all she met - even to her last days. RASMUSSEN Charles Edward Aged 79 years passed away peacefully in Fort Langley on October 28, 2009. STRINGER Mabel (Sunny) 1920-2009 "A Free Spirit" Sunny died peacefully in the Palliative Care Centre at VGH on November 3, 2009 following a short illness. Predeceased by her husband John Alfred Stringer (1975) and survived by three daughers: Donna, Helen (Hartley) and Kathleen (Peter) as well as by six grand and three great grandchilden. Also survived by dear family friend Pete Synadinos and many other friends from ESL teaching days and from her lifelong passion for art, hiking, foreign travel, history, bridge, gardening, music and theatre. The family would like to thank the ENT and Palliative Care staff at VGH for their kindness and compassion during Sunny's illness. As the beloved centre of her extended family, Sunny will be sorely missed. A celebration of Sunny's life will be held at a later date. "You can shed tears that she is gone or you can smile because she has lived. You can remember her and only that she's gone or you can cherish her memory and let it live on." WILLIAMS Anne Elizabeth (nee Murray) March 6, 1932 - October 30, 2009 Anne graduated from Burnaby South in 49. Her nursing career started with VGH training class of 53. She married Alan Williams in 54 and enjoyed many years of being a stay-at-home mom, delighting in the pleasure of her children. Returned to Nursing in 79, she thoroughly enjoyed that, too. After retirement, Anne's passion was golf, becoming past captains at Langara and Mylora. She also enjoyed travelling, from road trips to sailing in Greece and Turkey. Compassionate, reflective, determined, curious, considerate and laughing, Anne had a talent for friendship and was loved by many. She will be missed by husband, Alan, children Louise (Richard), Catherine (Sylvain), Carol and Dan, grandchildren Alphred, Felix, Adrien, Miguel, Eli and Adrian, brother Keith (Sylvia), and numerous loving relatives and close friends. A Celebration of Life will be held at Northview Golf Course November 13, 2009 2pm. In lieu of flowers, please give blood or donations to the Red Cross in her memory. CALDWELL, Laurette Hermina (nee Menard) November 28, 1919 November 4, 2009 Passed away peacefully at Broadmead Lodge, Victoria, B.C. in her 90th year. Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba to Delphis and Ernestine Menard, predeceased by her devoted husband Newbury Arthur (Tim) and seven siblings. Lovingly remembered and missed by her three children, Brenda, Bob (Catherine) and Tom, two grandchildren, Michelle Scott Ehle, Laurel CaldwellMacIntyre and one great grandchild, Liam Ehle. Laurette had joie de vivre doing everything she did to the fullest whether nursing (a long and distinguished career) organizing family reunions, socializing with friends, enjoying music and dancing, SeaWaves activities, RV-ing, international travelling, Misericordia alumni, bridge and birthday clubs, along with parish duties including CWL, church bazaars, volunteering, giving of herself to others and fundraising. KERFOOT, Frieda (nee Van den Besselaer) 4 September 1924 24 October 2009 Frieda died peacefully at Saanich Peninsula Hospital. Born in Antwerp, Belgium, Frieda came to Canada as a war bride in 1946. Frieda radiated unmatched love, warmth and vivacity we will miss her greatly. Predeceased by her first huband, Ronald Kerfoot, Frieda is survived and lovingly remembered by her husband Michael Roberts; her son Patrick Kerfoot, Stephanie and Emily; Valerie Finding, Christopher, Keary and Robbyn; Susan Roberts (Al), Antoine and Sarah; Peter Roberts; Jennifer Roberts (Joe), Andres and Aisha; and many cherished friends. A memorial service will be held at Holy Trinity Church (1319 Mills Rd, North Saanich) at 2 PM on November 21st, followed by a reception in the church hall. KORN, Helga Our dearest Mom, Helga Korn, passed away peacefully on November 5, 2009 at the age of 71. Predeceased by her beloved husband Heinz in 2003 and her mother and stepfather. Mom married Heinz in 1962 and they enjoyed over 40 years together. Mom will be lovingly remembered by her children Gregory, Christopher and Denise and cherished by her grandchildren Tracey, Erica, Jackie, Tyler, Peter and Patrick. Mom leaves many extended family members, good neighbours and friends from around the world. Mom was endlessly devoted to her children and grandchildren. She loved working in her flower garden and cooking. Many heartfelt thanks to the staff and Hospice Volunteers of the Nanaimo Hospital Palliative Care Unit. God saw you getting tired, When a cure was not to be, So he closed his arms around you, And whispered Come to me." You suffered much in silence, Your spirit did not bend, You faced your pain with courage, Until the very end. EVE, Isabel "Beth" (Lesperance) At the age of 91 on November 4, 2009 at the Sun Parlor Home for Seniors in Leamington. Formerly of Harrowood Seniors Residence, the Village of Colchester, and a long time resident of the "old town" of LaSalle. Daughter of Edward and Lena (Cecile) Lesperance (both deceased in 1980). Predeceased by her daughter Beverley Anne (1948) and husband Lawrence (Larry) (1993). Beth was a beautiful lady, a professional radio vocalist in the late 1930's, was a runner -up in the Miss Western Ontario Beauty Pageant when she was 19, and at the age of 40 earned her professional Hair Dresser's Certificate. She retained her beauty, her sense of humour, her love of family and her dignity to the end. Beth will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by daughter Charlene O'Hara and her husband Chuck of Pelee Island; Granddaughter Sherry (O'Hara) Bondy, Great grandchildren Lindsay Bondy and her fiancee John Norris and Great Great grandson John Norris, Charles Bondy and Laura Bondy; Grandson Lawrence (Larry) and his wife Roberta (LaRiviere) and their children Jayce O'Hara and Matthew O'Hara and his wife Jen and their children Gracie and Hannah. Beth is also survived by a son Martin Eve and his children Derek (Eve) Masterman, Ashley, Kyle and Justin Eve. A sister-in-law Gwen (Eve) Cromar also survives. Cremation has taken place. At Beth's request there will be no visitation. She will be gently placed next to her beloved Lawrence and darling daughter Beverley at Victoria Memorial Cemetery by her immediate family at a private service.
