SHEEN, Rita (nee Bowles) On November 2, 2009, at the age of eighty-one, Rita passed away peacefully surrounded by her immediate family after fighting a brave battle with cancer. She will be greatly missed by Ted, her beloved husband of 60 years whose love and dedication eased her passage. Her spirit and optimism will live on in her children Donna (Wayne), Debra (Brian) and Gary (Karen). She was the dearest grandmother to Tegan (Justin), Shane, Jordan, Bradley, Wesley, Michael and Carley, who were her pride and joy. Rita also leaves to mourn her sister Iris. Cass, Abraham (Al) Al left us peacefully on the morning of November 3, 2009 in his 100th year of life. He was predeceased by his loving wife Lillian with whom he had shared 62 wonderful years of marriage. Al was the devoted father and father-in-law of Barbara and Harold Mansfield and Joseph and Marilynne Cass. He was also the proud Zaidy of Rhonda Shapey (Jack), Jeff Mansfield, Barry Mansfield, Shawna Cogan (Allan) and Randy Cass (Martha). Much to his delight he was also a much-loved Great Zaidy to Kara and Josh Shapey; Lindsay and Joshua Cogan; and Benjamin, Nathan and Daniel Cass. Al is survived by his sister Miriam in California and predeceased by his other eight siblings Ben, Julie, Sam, Harry, Betty, Isadore, Eli and Zelda. The family would like to express its gratitude for the wonderful care provided to Zaidy by his three loyal caregivers Arnold, Richard and Linden. KADAR, George It is with immeasurable sadness that we announce that George Kadar, the most loving and dedicated father and husband, and the most brilliant and EXCEPTIONAL aerospace engineer, passed away peacefully early Monday morning at the Ottawa General Hospital with his wife, Vera, son Paul-Lewis, daughter Gena Elizabeth and her husband Phillip Gencher by his side. George was one of a kind in every way, and to try and list all of his life's passions and achievements would not do him justice, for he found extraordinary joy and enthusiasm in everything he ever engaged in. In 2003, he began his cancer adventure. Defying all expectations, he beat back the illness not once, but twice, and in the process inspired and gave hope to innumerable people with similar diagnoses. With no formal medical training, he taught himself a lifetimes worth of oncology and immunology in six short years, and he used this knowledge to push the envelope of cutting edge research and treatment of these diseases. A Funeral Service will be held at the Jewish Memorial Chapel, 1771 Cuba Ave. on Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009 at 2:00 PM. Interment following at Jewish Memorial Gardens, 2692 Bank St, Ottawa. Shiva will be observed at the family home from Wednesday until Monday evening at 2-4 PM and 6:30-9 PM. SEELEMANN, Ortrud Called Home Born April 30, 1942, passed peacefully on Friday, October 30, 2009 at the Ottawa General Hospital at the age of 67. CARMICHAEL, Henry Thomas Harry May 14, 1921 October 30, 2009 Harry passed away peacefully at the Rockyview Hospital on Friday, October 30, 2009 at the age of 88 years. He was born in Regina, May 14, 1921, to parents Hugh and Vera, and spent his early life there. When WWII broke out in 1939, Harry volunteered for service and served in the RCNVR for the duration. He was discharged in 1945 and later served in the Naval Officers Association. Harry was married in 1946 to Ethel Gay and together they raised two sons. He was employed by the Federal Government in Regina, and Calgary in the Excise and Sales Tax Department for 25 years before retiring in 1984. Harry is sadly missed by his wife Ethel, his two sons Kevin (Brenda), Richard (Susan), grandchildren, Tammy (Shane), Tara (Sean), Sarah and Andrew, and great grandchildren Joshua, Teige, and Phillipa, as well as, his nieces and nephews and their families. Harry was predeceased by his parents and his two sisters Eileen and Pearl. A celebration of Harry's life will be held at St. Giles Presbyterian Church, 1102 23 Avenue N.W., Calgary on Saturday, November 7, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. David Vincent, officiating. FRITZ, Harvey Passed away after a brief illness on Tuesday, Nov 3rd, 2009 at the Moose Jaw Union Hospital. At the age of 71, Harvey, beloved husband of Marie for over 48 years and loving father of Dana Schwan (Greg) and Derek (Glenda Tsimaras). Cherished grandfather of Dylan, Dawsyn, Tyson and Trystan. Step-grandfather of Jeff, Blair, Shala, Josh, Yanni, and Tacia. Predeceased by his father Tony Fritz, brothers-in-law Robbie Walters and Ron Koester. He will be sadly missed by his mother Helen Fritz, sister Dianne Walters, sister-in-law Doreen Koester, nieces, nephews and many friends. Harvey was born in Hart, SK, to Tony and Helen Fritz on March 18th, 1938. Later moving to Willow Bunch where he started his schooling. He met and married Marie Chiro in 1961. The couple lived on the family farm where they raised their two children. They moved to Moose Jaw in 1998 after retiring from farming. Harvey loved camping and spending time with family and friends. He loved to spend time travelling with his grandchildren and watching hockey. He enjoyed playing cards and going out for coffee with his buddies. Farming was in his heart and enjoyed drives in the country. A prayer service will be held on Thursday, Nov 5th at 7:30 pm at Parkview Funeral Chapel, 474 Hochelaga St W, Moose Jaw. WELLS Olive Edna (Thomas) Wells, aged 97, passed away peacefully at Pioneer Lodge, Moose Jaw on October 29, 2009. Her Service of Remembrance will be at W.J. Jones & Son Chapel, Moose Jaw on Saturday, November 7, 2009 at 1:00 pm with Rev. Robert Kitchen presiding. Memorialization will be at St. Columba Church Cemetery east of Tuxford. Olive was predeceased by her youngest son, Kenneth and husband Carl. She is survived by her sister, Iva Ashton, son Stanley Wells of Australia and daughter Joyce Wells of Regina, seven grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. Born in Tuxford in 1912, Olive lived on her parents' (John and Effie Thomas) farm near Tuxford until a stroke at age 91 sent her to Pioneer Lodge in Moose Jaw where she received loving, professional care for her last six years. Olive and Carl Wells were married in 1936 and a year later moved to the Thomas farm. A beloved and respected rural school teacher for 28 years in 12 country schools, Olive was a founder of the Sask. Teachers Federation, active in provincial politics in the Tommy Douglas era, and a community leader throughout her life. Olive's most special memories were editing and producing Heritage of the Wheatlands a community history book, traveling around the works, and hosting a farm visit and tea for Queen Elizabeth and Prince Phillip in July, 1959. Memorabilia of that visit is now exhibited at the Moose Jaw Art Gallery & Museum. Her kindness to young NATO airforce boys training at 15Wing air base at Moose Jaw in the 1950-60s is remembered to this day. in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Council of Canadians or to Pioneer Lodge c/o W.J. Saretsky, Louis B. 1921 2009 Louis Saretsky passed away suddenly on Sunday, November 1, 2009 at the age of 88 years. He was raised on a farm near Burr, Saskatchewan and served over seas, during World War II, with the Canadian Armed Forces. After the war, he returned to Canada where he met and married Agnes Kuznitsoff. He was a longtime employee of Otis Elevator Company from which he retired in 1982. He is survived by his daughter Dianne Adolph of Saskatoon, son Kevin of Calgary, sister Beth of Winnipeg, grandchildren Alexandra of Calgary and Colleen of Saskatoon. His wife Agnes predeceased him in 2001. NORMAN A. ZIEHL June 22nd, 1937 November 3rd, 2009 Norm, age 72, passed away peacefully at home with his family at his side. He is dearly loved and remembered by his two daughters, Leslie (Dwayne) Waye of Cambridge, ON and Christy Ziehl (Tyler) of Calgary, AB; two grandchildren, Jason and Kayley; three sisters, Marjorie (Vernon) Shelstead of Taber, AB, Vonda (Bob) Kosoloski of Regina, SK, Jean (Terry) Clark of Edmonton, AB; one brother, Gary (Eva) Ziehl of Pincher Creek, AB; dear companion, Marg Doman; as well as many nieces and nephews. Norm was born in Abernethy and raised in Estevan and later spent some time in the Royal Canadian Navy. He was employed in the oil field until 1966 when he moved to Saskatoon. Following 20 years with PCA Patience Lake he spent the last 20 years with building operations at the Financial Building in Saskatoon. Norm was very active and over the span of the past 40 years he has passionately ran equivalent to two times the circumference of the earth. She was born on November 5, 1917 in Dipignano, Pr. Cosenza, Italy and immigrated to Canada in May 1952 with 3 children to join her husband. She was predeceased by her loving husband Giuseppe after 61 years of marriage on October 31, 2002. LAJEUNESSE, Donna Lynn July 29, 1953 October 21, 2009 Sadly, we announce the loss of our dear Donna. After many years of battling liver disease and finally receiving a new liver, she faced and battled many complications. She passed away quietly at the West Coast General Hospital, with her loving daughter and sister by her side. Donna spent most of her adult life in either Victoria or Calgary both cities were home to her. While in Calgary she obtained a diploma in Business Administration and also became an LPN. She formed many close and lasting relationships in both places. Also in her career as a home support worker, she formed many bonds & attachments with her clients. Predeceased by her mother Hortense in 1976 and her father Robert in 2003, she leaves behind her beloved daughter Drew (Herman); her brothers and sister: Denis (Maxine), Gary (Mary Lou), Rita (Dave) and Andre (Helen); her nieces Jill and Kara and Tara and her nephew Mason. She also leaves many close friends and relatives who supported her to the end. Cremation has taken place. Yates Funeral Home. A Celebration of Donna's Life will take place at Hupacasath House of Gathering, 5500 Ahahswinis, Port Alberni, BC, (off Beaver Creek Road) on Sunday, November 8th at 2:00 pm. Donations to Happy Liver Society organization or to the BC Transplant Society graciously accepted.
