KINGERSKI, Margaret A (Thivienge) - 88 years, Thursday, October 8th, 2009 at the Sudbury Regional Hospital - Laurentian Site. Beloved wife of John Kingerski predeceased September 5, 2009. Loving mother of William (wife Helen) and Gary (wife Linda) both of Sudbury. Cherished grandmother of Vicki-Lynn (husband Brian), Tricia (husband Robert), Stephen and great grandchildren Connor and Carter. The family wish to thank Dr. Garrioch and the staff at the 4th floor Palliative Care Unit, Laurentian Site for their wonderful care and kindness. Ray was born in North Battleford, Sask, on July 17, 1929. He has joined his wife Maureen Rackel who passed ten years ago. Both of our parents are missed by family and friends. OBITUARY REVEREND COLONEL CARLOS DAVILA Passed away peacefully at home on October 7, 2009. Predeceased by his beloved wife of forty-four years, Maria-Mercedes (nee Dousdebes). Will be dearly missed by their children, Margarita (Michael), Carlos (Nancy), Jose (Patti), Maria (Gilles), Luis (Ann), Mercedes (Paul) and Robert (Linh). Will also be missed by his daughter Norma Canessa. Dearly loved Papapa of Pablo, Nicholas, Thomas, Bianca, Sabrina, Rebecca, Jared, Emily, Charlie, Luis, Michael, Daniel, Peter, Alexandra, Hannah, Ben, Nina and Francesca, great-grandchildren Charlize, Brooklyn, Nathaniel and Stephania. Carlos will also be greatly missed by his sisters and brother abroad, as well as many relatives and friends. As a retired Colonel, Carlos spent seven years working as a diplomat in Santiago de Chile and Washington, DC. In 1964, he emigrated with his family to Canada, where he worked for twenty-four years as a radio producer/announcer at Radio Canada CBC until his retirement, following which he studied and became a Deacon for the Montreal Diocese. He dedicated many years to the Spanish Catholic Community in Montreal, and later at St. John Fisher Parish in Pointe-Claire. Carlos was loved by all who knew him for his charm, generosity of spirit, sense of humour, and his profound faith and gratitude to the Lord. We extend our sincere appreciation and gratitude to his companion Tato for his loving care and friendship. Also to his other caregivers, Lynn, Vanny, Ivylyn and Rosa, and to Linda Fowler. Your professional and caring support enabled Carlos to end his life at home. PREECE, Shirley Patricia - Born March 10, 1927. Shirley passed into the presence of her Lord and Saviour on Tuesday, October 6th, 2009, in Abbotsford, B.C. She is predeceased by her parents, Sydney and Wilhelmine Preece, brother and sister-in- law, Allister (Al) and Norma Preece. She is survived by her niece, Delaine Hopkins and husband Gary, Paris, Ontario, her nephew Robert Preece and his wife Sandra, Ottawa (Kinburn), Ontario and four great-nieces and their families. Also survived by several cousins. Shirley was born in Brantford, Ontario and came to trust Jesus as her Lord and Saviour at age 16. She later attended and graduated from Prairie Bible Institute, Three Hills, AB. and the Brantford General Hospital School of Nursing in preparation for missionary service. Shirley left in March, l953 for South Africa where she served for 35 years under TEAM (The Evangelical Alliance Mission). She served first as a registered nurse and midwife (after one year Midwifery Training at Grey's Hospital, Pietermaritsburg, South Africa.), and then as Director of Nursing at Mosvold Mission Hospital, Ingwavuma, KwaZulu-Natal, as well as being involved in a church planting outreach from the hospital. From 1988 she served in Bible teaching and children's ministries in the churches and schools in the Nongoma district in South Africa until retirement in l997. On return to Canada she settled in Abbotsford, B.C. Arrangements have been entrusted to the BECKETT- GLAVES FAMILY FUNERAL CENTRE, 88 Brant Avenue. A Memorial Service was held in Abbotsford, B.C. A graveside service will be held at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Brantford on Thursday at 12 noon. Donations, condolences, and further details will be available online at www.beckettglaves.com. A tree will be planted in memory of Shirley in the Beckett-Glaves Memorial Forest.

JENKINS, Jean (nee Benoit) Feb. 29, 1916 to October 6, 2009 At Villa Marconi, early in the afternoon of Tuesday, October 6th, Jean passed on. She was a loving lady who will be dearly missed. Jean was predeceased by her husband Donald and her son Briane (Louise Macfarlane). Jean's daughter Fran Leblanc and 5 grandsons survive her: Christopher and Robin Hannay, (Port Neches, Texas and Trois Rivieres, Quebec respectively); and, David Jenkins (Joanne Jang) of Vancouver, B.C; Michael Jenkins (Cindy Kop); and Tony Jenkins (Brenda Searson), of Ottawa. Jean is also survived by 3 great grandchildren: William, Molly and Lucy Jenkins, all of Ottawa. Jean was born in New Edinburgh, Ottawa to Telesphore Benoit and Jean Clinkscale (Edinburgh, Scotland). She is predeceased by her brothers Stuart, Joseph (the late Gen Benoit) and Bernard (Pat and Bill Mavis); and she is survived by her two best friends and sisters Eleanor/Nan ( Frank Donnelly) of Barrie, Ontario and Ollie (C.D. Mickey Stevens) of Ottawa. She will be missed by her numerous nieces and nephews and very close friends, all of whom she treasured. Jean was a long time employee and Manager of Audit at Charles Ogilvy Ltd., in Ottawa, retiring at age 69 when the store was sold and she and the President turned out the lights. She is a 63 year member of the CWL in Ottawa and was a 16 year volunteer at the Riverside Hospital Auxiliary; as well, she was convenor of United Way and Red Feather campaigns for many years. The family would like to express its gratitude to all of the dedicated and caring staff of Villa Marconi on Baseline Road in Ottawa; they were there for Jean and her family at all times and, in particular, a special thank you to Winnie Davidson, Head of Nursing and the nursing staff on the second floor; and to Jean's long-time physician, Dr. K. Orbeck who took excellent care of her for over 30 years. Heartfelt thanks are also sent to Marilyn and Brian and to the entire Milam family for their continuing love for their lifelong friend; Jean was always considered an integral part of their extended family. A funeral service to celebrate Jean's life will be held on Saturday, October 17, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 153 Woodroffe Avenue at Byron, in Ottawa. The Mass will be officiated by Reverend Jeffrey King, Mass will be followed by a reception in the Church Hall. Private internment will occur at a later date at Notre Dame Cemetery in Ottawa, officiated by her nephew, Reverend Robert (Bob) Jenkins. SMITH , Audrey Emma The family of Audrey Emma Smith (nee Morgan) sadly announces her death September 12, 2009, just before her 87th birthday. She died in a Calgary hospital from pneumonia. Audrey was born on September 20, 1922 in Dundurn, Saskatchewan, the youngest of ten children. She attended "Tech" School in Saskatoon after graduating from high school in Dundurn. She and one of her friends decided to join the Air Force and see the world. She always laughed that during the war she did see part of it; Dafoe, Yorkton and Calgary, plus a few trips in Canada and the US during furloughs. Audrey liked Calgary so much while stationed there, that after she was discharged in 1945, she moved back to Calgary and found a job training Veterans in administrative skills. There she met James Smith and they were married in 1965. They lived for many years in a little house in the park across from SAIT in Calgary and took a trip every year to see another part of the world. Jim died in 1995 and Audrey was blessed with the companionship of her many neighbours, friends and family. She moved into the Colonel Belcher Veterans' Residence in 2006 and made many wonderful friends there. Audrey was an avid crossword puzzler, writing her own crossword dictionary. She and her brother Ryrie often solved crosswords over the phone as they shared a passion for them. She loved hearing and telling jokes and was quick to share them with her friends and family. She was extremely interested in medical research and followed the scientific advances with great enthusiasm. Audrey was predeceased by her parents Edwin and Annie Morgan, her sister Uarda (Jim Blake), brothers Ian (Nadine), Reymer (Ellen), Hamilton, sister Phyllis, infant brother Hamilton, and sister-in-law Clemence. She is survived by her brothers Mabon, Beverly (Helen) and Ryrie (Irene), sister-in-law Fern, numerous nieces and nephews and other family. At Audrey's request there will be no Funeral or Memorial Service. MCNEIL, Bruce F. (Stretch) - December 8, 1932 - October 6, 2009. It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Bruce “Stretch” McNeil, peacefully on October 6, 2009 at the Grace Hospital in Winnipeg with his wife, family and friends at his side. Remaining to forever cherish Bruce's memory are his wife Patricia (Truman) McNeil; children and stepchildren Debbie (Mike) Burns, Patti (Phil) Edwards, Donna (Don) Sutherland, Penny (Peter) Litwiller, Kathy (Gary) Gough, Bruce McNeil, Tammy (Pat) Bonner, Brent (Jennifer) McNeil, Barry McCallister, Ryun (Laura) Truman, Susan (Mark) Roffey, David (Lorreina) Allison; 27 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren; his brother, Bobby (Pearl) McNeil, and many nieces and nephews. Bruce was predeceased by his parents, Maude (Roche) and Daniel McNeil; his wife and mother of their eight children, Lilyan (Reynolds); his sisters Marie and Miriam; and brothers, Jack, Gerald, Thomas, Burton, Donald, and Daniel. Bruce was born in Spryfield, Nova Scotia on December 8, 1932. He joined the RCAF in 1950 and served his country for over 38 years. He was a highly respected flight engineer who spent much of his career at CFB Greenwood, NS. As a young airman, he was an active participant in sports, particularly as a baseball player where he acquired his nickname “Stretch.” One of the highlights of his sports life was throwing the first pitch at a Blue Jays Game during his tenure as Base Chief of Trenton. He played and coached hockey as well, but was first and foremost a family man who enjoyed his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews with obvious affection. He retired in 1988, serving the last 8 years as Base Chief Warrant Officer at CFB Trenton, where his kindness, compassion and integrity touched the lives of so many. Since his retirement, Bruce suffered from ill health that continued over the years through which he demonstrated amazing courage, resilience and dignity. His smile always lit up the room and his knowing wink was a delight to behold. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Home Care workers who helped Bruce so much over the past eight years in Winnipeg, and to the doctors and nurses at Grace Hospital who so compassionately cared for him during his final few days. Remembered fondly by all who met him and beloved by all who knew him, Bruce will be missed by many. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, October 9, 2009 at 1:30 p.m. in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Roman Catholic Church, 4588 Roblin Blvd., with Rev. Msgr. GROBLACHER Philip 1926 - 2009 On Sunday, October 4, 2009 Philip Groblacher passed away peacefully into the presence of our Lord, Jesus Christ, from his home in Vancouver, BC, at the age of 83 years. He was a loving husband and father, born in Austria to Rupert Vospernik and Emma Groblacher. He was raised on a farm most of his early youth and he later acquired skills in storekeeping and eventually welding. After WWII He sought a new life in Canada and married his beloved wife of 54 years. He is survived by his loving wife Sophie, two sons, daughter-in-law, three granddaughters, four loving brothers, Richard, Karl, Raimond, and Gusti, who reside in Austria with their families. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 13, 2009 at St. Andrews Catholic Church, 480 East 47th Avenue, Vancouver. Reverend Joseph Nguyen celebrant. Alfred Melanson - SIMSBURY, Connecticut - C’est avec grande tristesse que nous annonçons le décès d’Alfred Melanson, époux bien-aimé d’Éthel (Barrieau) et notre tendre père, à l’âge de 72 ans. Alfred s’est éteint le vendredi 9 octobre 2009, après une longue lutte contre la paralysie supranucléaire progressive; sa famille était à ses cotés au moment de sa mort. Alfred est né à Moncton, Nouveau-Brunswick. Il était le fils des regrettés Anna et Edgar Melanson. À 17 ans, Alfred est déménagé avec sa famille au Connecticut, où il s’est éventuellement installé à Simsbury, pour ensuite y rester 48 ans. Il a fondé la Mell Construction Company et est devenu un constructeur des plus appréciés de la région de Farmington Valley. Alfred s’est beaucoup impliqué dans la communauté de Simsbury et a donné beaucoup de son temps pour entraîner les jeunes joueurs de hockey et de baseball à Simsbury. Il a été l’un des fondateurs du Simsbury Youth Hockey et l’un de ses entraîneurs pendant plus de 35 ans; Alfred a été du premier groupe de membres intronisés au Temple de la renommée du Simsbury Youth Hockey. Il a été longtemps membre de la paroisse Saint Mary de Simsbury et y a apporté un soutien inestimable au fil des années. Il appréciait particulièrement ses étés à Bouctouche, Nouveau-Brunswick, où la famille venait le rejoindre en vacances. Alfred laisse dans le deuil sa tendre épouse depuis 52 ans et leurs neuf enfants: Charline (Philip) Poirier d’Avon, Denise (Michael) McDonald de Freehold, N.J., Marc (Tracey) de Simsbury, Robert (Louise) de Bloomfield, Charles (Suzanne) de Simsbury, Donald (Michelle) de Simsbury, Andrea (Blair) Wlochowski de Bloomfield, Paul (Suzanne) de Simsbury et Daniel (Darcy) de Simsbury. Il laisse également dans le deuil 32 petits-enfants, un arrière-petit-fils, ses soeurs: Thérèse (Antoine) Thériault et Corinne (Ulysse) LeBlanc de Moncton et Lillian (William) Motta de Clinton, Conn.; ses frères: Iroi (Ida) de Killingworth, Conn. et Leonard (Mary) de Simsbury, ainsi que la grande famille de son épouse au Nouveau-Brunswick et de nombreux cousins, cousines, neveux et nièces. Son frère, Edgar, ainsi que sa soeur, Pauline Coté sont déjà décédés. Papa a été un guide et un modèle par excellence pour tous ceux et celles qui l’ont connu. Que ce soit comme époux, comme père ou grand-père, comme homme d’affaires ou comme entraîneur, il arrivait toujours, de façon discrète, à faire en sorte que les gens se sentent particulièrement estimés en sa présence. GERVASIO, Gina - Peacefully on October 8th at the St. Catharines General Hospital - NHS at the age of 82. Devoted wife of 64 years of Luigi and much loved mother and mother-in-law of Dolores and Julien Gaudin of P.E.I. and mother of the late Loris (2005). Beloved Nonne of Andre and Maria Gaudin. She is survived by cherished nieces and nephews. Gina is also predeceased by 3 brothers and 2 sisters in Italy. Gina was a dedicated volunteer at two senior citizen homes and at many CWL events. She loved gardening and enjoyed spending time tending her flowers on her property. She was a wonderful hostess welcoming many people to her home and had a heart for the poor and needy. She delighted in her 2 grandchildren and had a wonderful visit with them 4 days prior to her passing, reminiscing their many visits together. The family wishes to extend thanks to Dr. Candice Buetow - family doctor and Dana, her assistant, for their exemplary care over the years. They also wish to thank Oncologist, Dr. Hughes, the nurses on the Chemotherapy floor, the staff of Moore 2 for their kind and caring assistance in these last 2 months and Father Chris Szczepanik for his priestly care. Gina's family will receive visitors at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 585 Carlton Street, St. Catharines on Monday, October 12th from 2-4 p.m and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Liturgy will be held at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, 269 St. Paul Crescent on Tuesday, October 13th at 11 a.m. In accordance with her wishes, cremation will follow the service with a private inurnment at a later date. Boris loved to spend time up north, fish and watch hockey and baseball. Predeceased by her siblings Mary, Mike, Bill, and Peter. She will be sadly missed by many nieces and nephews. Helen moved from Lively, ON in 2000. She was a member of St. Paul's Anglican Church and the Essex Retirees. She was also a member of the Royal Purple (Sudbury). If you so desire, donations to St. Paul's Anglican Church or to the Ontario Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by the family. Cremation has taken place. HAMILTON, Terry - Passed away suddenly September 30, 2009 at the age of 63. Terry (née Lawrence) formerly of Sudbury was the beloved wife of the late David Hamilton and loving companion of Mike Mainville. She was the loving mother of Stephen (Tamara) and Laurie (Craig McManus). She was the loved daughter of Patricia Roberts (Robbie) and the late Donald Lawrence of Sudbury.
