Frère Yvon Cormier, csc - Au Foyer Notre-Dame-du-Sacré-Coeur de Dieppe, N.-B., le dimanche 27 septembre 2009, est décédé Frère Yvon Cormier, csc. Né à Moncton le 6 septembre 1925, il était fils de feu Tilmon Cormier et Sara Cormier. Il est entré au Monastère des Trappistes de Rogersville le 19 septembre 1943. Il y a fait sa première profession le 27 avril 1946 sous le nom de frère Anselme. Il est sorti de l'Ordre des Cisterciens pour se joindre à la Congrégation de Sainte-Croix le 1er novembre 1955, date de sa prise d'habit. Il a fait sa première profession au Noviciat de la Congrégation de Sainte-Croix à Pointe-Claire (Qué bec) le 4 novembre 1956. De 1956 à 1958, il était membre de la communauté du Collège Saint-Joseph, à Memramcook. De 1958 à 1962, il a accompli les fonctions de cuisinier et de buandier au Noviciat Notre-Dame-de-Sainte-Croix, de Pré-d'en-Haut. De 1962 à 1966, il revenait comme sacristain et aide-relieur au Collège Saint-Joseph de Memramcook. De 1966 à 1988, il a rempli diverses fonctions à la Maison Sainte-Croix de Pré-d'en-Haut. C'est pendant cette période qu'il fera connaître son amitié pour les animaux. De nombreuses personnes ont alors visité le mini-zoo qu'il y avait mis sur pied. De 1988 à 2003, il est affecté à l'entretien à la Résidence Sainte-Croix, rue Kendra à Moncton. Pendant quelques années, il devait prêter son concours à la cuisine de la Maison Nazareth de Monc ton, à titre de bénévole. À compter de 2004, il continuera de remplir diverses fonctions reliées à l'entretien général et au jardinage, à la Résidence Sainte-Croix de Monc ton. À part sa famille religieuse, il laisse dans le deuil une soeur et ses frères: Dora de Moncton, Hervé de Californie, Roger de Moncton, Bernard de Saint-Hubert, Qc et Emery de Waltham, Mass. En plus de ses parents, l'ont précédé dans la tombe ses frères et soeurs: Hélène, Gérard, Aurèle, Édouard, Corinne, Germaine, Léo, Edna et Paul. La dépouille mortelle sera expo sée à la Maison funéraire de Char tersville, le mardi 29 septembre, de 14h à 16h et de 19h à 21h. Le mardi à 20h30, il y aura prière communautaire et échange de souvenirs. Les funérailles auront lieu en l'église Sainte-Thérèse de Dieppe, le mercredi 30 septembre, à 11h. L'inhumation se fera plus tard au cimetière de la Congrégation de Sainte-Croix, à Memramcook. McLAUGHLIN, Shawn - It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden loss of an amazing young man. Shawn Glenn McLaughlin in his 19th year. McDONALD, Mary Ellen - It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our mother, following her brave battle with cancer on Saturday, September 26, 2009, with her family by her side. Predeceased by her husband Len in 1994. Mary Ellen was survived by her 5 children Joanne Sarcevich, David (Anne Marie), Paul, Jeff, and Christine (Jeff). She will be fondly remembered by her 5 grandchildren Amanda, John Paul, Stephanie, Jennifer and Megan. Mary Ellen will be sadly missed by her sisters Jane Williamson and Nancy Kaye. She was actively involved with the St. Catharines Special Olympics for more than 25 years. Mary Ellen devoted her life to caring for and raising her family, and volunteering within the community. FRASER, Donald Edward January 31, 1936 Passed away peacefully but far too soon on September 26, 2009. Son of the late Sidney Birmingham Fraser, and the late Louise Sharpe. He leaves his cherished and loving wife of thirty six years, Eileen (Wilkinson). He also leaves his brother Bruce (Pauline). He was a wonderful father to, and will be greatly missed by his children, Jimmy (Melanie), Wendy (Carol), Penny (Marcel), and Donna (John). He was a fantastic grandfather and will be missed by his grandchildren John, Kelly, Lindsay, and his piping star and buddy, Michael. He will also be missed by his nephew Kenny, and nieces, Anita and Robbin. GALLINGER, Mabel Catherine (nee Young) May 30, 1928 - September 26, 2009 Mabel passed away peacefully with her dearly loved daughter Kimberley, her precious grandchildren Chelsea and Kyle, and her sister Betty at her side. Mabel lived her life with dignity; with boundless and endless love for her family. Her values and virtues were never compromised. Her joy in life was helping her family to grow. Mabel's selflessness and generous spirit will be an everlasting memory for us all. FITZGERALD, John Anthony Tony entered into rest, in hospital, in Perth on Friday, September 25th, 2009, Tony Fitzgerald at the age of 70 years. Tony will be sadly missed by his wife Joyce (nee Cook), and by sons Jeffrey (Jennifer), and Dennis (Laurie), all of Perth. CARON, Jacques Peacefully at home on Saturday September 26 after a long courageous battle with cancer. Beloved husband and best friend of Joan. He will be sadly missed by many nieces and nephews. Born in Castello Di Godego, Treviso, Italy, on February 25th, 1930, Lorenzo came to Canada in March 1957. He retired as a machinist with NORONT Steel Ltd. in 1994 after a 38 year career. Lorenzo was a curious and mechanically inclined person who liked to tinker around with engines. He enjoyed doing many activities such as sausage & wine making and spending time in his garden. Lorenzo will be remembered as a loving and dedicated husband, father and nonno whose greatest joys came from witnessing the many accomplishments of his family. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. Resting at the JACKSON AND BARNARD FUNERAL HOME, 233 Larch St., Sudbury. Dearest brother of Anne Groves of Surrey, England, brother-in-law of Carol (Peter) Koeslag of Peterborough and of Jocelyn (Larry) Eller of Grimsby and fond uncle to David Groves (England), Robert Groves (Germany), Susan Sami (England), David Thwaites (Orangeville), George Thwaites (Ottawa), Stephen Thwaites (Whitby), Roderick Thwaites (Whitby), Lynn (Fraser) Roy (Owen Sound) and Lorraine Eller (St. Catharines) and their families; cousin of Betty Pritchard of Gloucestershire, England. Predeceased by his parents William Whitelaw Thompson Boyd and Maude De Silva Boyd and his beloved nanny Sarah, of Port of Spain Trinidad West Indies. As a boy, Robert (Bob) came to Canada from Trinidad at the outbreak of WWII to attend Ridley College, St. Catharines. He often expressed gratitude to his parents for their gift to him of this experience. He attended University of Toronto's Trinity College and The School of Practical Science. Toward the latter stages of the Second World War, Bob served his countries, Canada and England, in the British Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm. Upon graduation as a mechanical engineer, he married his sweetheart Barbara Beamish of St. Catharines (September 11, 1948) and started a family. He was hired by Foster Wheeler Canada into the St. Catharines drafting department, then to the sales department in Toronto. In 1968 Bob moved back to St. Catharines as Vice President. In 1983, he became President, Chief Executive Officer, and Chairman of the Canadian Board of Directors. In 1987 Bob was appointed Managing Director of Foster Wheeler Power Products in London, England until 1989. Still as Chairman of the Canadian Board of Directors he retired in 1991, remaining a member of that Board until 1995. He eventually served Foster Wheeler for 47 years, traveling to more than thirty countries. Bob also served his community as a member of the Board of Directors of Amity Goodwill and of The St. Catharines General Hospital. Bob had many other interests that enriched his life. He loved the outdoors, skeet and trap shooting, trout and salmon fishing with a very special group of friends and held a lifelong fascination with airplanes and flying. He represented Canada in competitions for marksmanship against Britain and the U.S. Family life included three much loved Labrador retrievers and time at the island of Jack Lake. While in mid-life, Bob made a discovery that changed and deepened the course of his personal life, allowing him to reassign his priorities, deepen his spirituality, live a day at a time, and practice gratitude anonymously. A sense of adventure nurtured by his parents and boyhood experiences in his beloved Trinidad, love of his family, poetry, music and faith truly supported him during the final phase of his life. TARNOWYCZ, Mario - In loving memory of Mario Tarnowycz, 67 years, who passed away suddenly, Friday, September 25th, 2009 at the Sudbury Regional Hospital - St. Joseph Site. Beloved son of Myron and Olga Tarnowycz both predeceased. Sadly missed by sister Nadia Paquette (husband Joe) and their son Joey of Sudbury, brother Alex (wife Gail) and their children Michael and Laurie (husband Matt Lemert) of Kelowna. Born in Rombas Moselle, France, Mario came to Canada with his parents in 1951. He worked for over 30 years in the payroll department at INCO, retiring 10 years ago. Mario was a member of the Ukrainian Credit Union, St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church and the Men's Club at the church. He enjoyed travelling, collecting movies, listening to music and spending time at the casino. He leaves a rich legacy and will be lovingly remembered as a quiet, gentle natured man who had a great heart. The family will honour Mario's request of no public visitation. A Private Family Mass was held at St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church. Cremation at the Parklawn Crematorium. Donations to St. Mary's Church or Heart and Stroke Fund would be appreciated. SMRKE, Lena - It is with profound sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of Lena Smrke, September 27th, 2009 in her 85th year at the Sudbury Regional Hospital. Born July 28th, 1924, she was the beloved daughter of Antonio and Theresa Stevens (both predeceased) and the loving wife of Michael (Mickey) (predeceased) and the dear sister of Rita Rumball (husband Jack) both predeceased. She is survived by her sister Mary Palmaro (husband Dino predeceased), sons Anthony (Connie), John, Steve (Debbie). Grandchildren Todd (Christine), Jennifer, Matthew, Justin, Amanda, Ben (Amy) and Mark (predeceased). Great-grandchildren Anthony, Carter, Grace and Hayden. Lena and Mickey were avid square dancers and often traveled out of town to pursue this hobby. Family was the centre of Lena's life and being an accomplished cook she was happiest making her famous gnocchi and pasta and having her family around her at dinner. Lena will be sadly missed by all who knew her including many nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. Resting at the JACKSON & BARNARD FUNERAL HOME 233 Larch St., Sudbury. NARRAWAY , Lionel McKechnie May 31, 1921 - September 24, 2009 It is with great sorrow we announce the unexpected and sudden passing of Lionel, beloved husband, father and great-grandfather. Lionel is survived by his loving wife of sixty-nine years Anne; son Craig (Joan); three beloved grandchildren, Tad (Caroline), Trevor (Lori), and Lisa; and five great-grandchildren. After spending five years overseas in the 8th Field Ambulance Medical Corps, Lionel returned to finish High School and then Engineering at the U of A. Lionel was instrumental in designing many of the pipelines and gathering systems in Alberta, finishing his many years in the oil business as President of Koch Oil / Bow River Pipelines in Calgary. He was a pioneering member of the Glendale Community Centre and the Tri Glen Baseball League. In retirement, Lionel was successful in helping pursue the Alberta Government, on behalf of the Kirby Centre, for compensation to the investors of the Cormie - Principal Group collapse. Lionel was a role model for his grandchildren and loved them dearly.
