MEIDINGER , Vivian (nee Le Page) August 14, 1911 - June 30, 2009 Vivian Meidinger, formerly of Bassano, passed away in Calgary on Tuesday, June 30, 2009 at the age of 97 years. Vivian was born in Holyoke, Mass., USA and came to Canada in 1917. She married Harry Meidinger of Bassano in 1934 and they raised their family there. Vivian is survived by her children, Gordon (Sharon) of Medicine Hat, Bernice Hulkovich of Calmar, Lloyd (Jan) of Moosemin, SK, Marie (Wayne) Sallows of Calgary, Larry of Avola, BC, and Denise (Jim) Rogers of Vernon, BC; eight grandchildren; and thirteen great-grandchildren. Vivian was predeceased by her husband Harry in 1988, son Milton in 1967, daughter-in-law Mary Lee in 1989, and son-in-law John in 2000. VERHOEF, Mr. Michael - At his home surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday June 30th, 2009, Michael Verhoef of Raleigh Township in his 62nd year. Michael Verhoef was born March 18th, 1948 and was the cherished son of the late Gerald and Dorothy Verhoef. Beloved husband of Barbara (Bechard). Loving father of Crystal Verhoef and her fiancé Jack Devolder and Nicholas Verhoef and his fiancée Jessica Brown, all of Chatham. He will be lovingly remembered by his grandchildren Jayden, Jordan, and JaeLynn. Also survived by several cousins and an aunt in Ireland, and many nieces and nephews. He will be fondly remembered by his good friend Doug Turner. Michael was employed with Continental Automotive Canada Inc. for 40 years as a Lead Hand Draftsman. PRESTON, Audrey Marguerite (Taverner) - With wonderful memories we celebrate the life of Audrey Marguerite Preston. With tremendous courage and tenacity she fought cancer, only to lose the battle in the wee hours of the morning on Friday, June 26th, 2009, in her 86th year. STRONG, Lewis John - passed away June 30, 2009 at Gateway Haven, Wiarton, Ontario. Lewis Strong of Southampton in his 92and year. Lewis was born on July 2, 1917 in Arran Township, the son of John and Alice (Coleman) Strong. Lewis was the beloved husband of Beatrice Strong (Gowan) for 66 years, cherished father of Cheryl Grace and son-in-law, Michael Grace, Ann Arbor, Michigan. Lewis was a wonderful grandfather to Lindsay and Perry Grace. Dear brother of Jim (Betty) Strong of Chesley, and dear brother-in-law of Elma Galbraith and Edith Robinson. Lewis will be missed by many nieces, nephews, friends and neighbours, especially Leo Vankessel and Connie McDonald. Predeceased by brother Earl (June) Strong of Tara. Lewis was a farmer in Arkwright and moved to Scarborough and Markham until 1975, employed by Becker's Milk and Canadian Tire before he retired and Lewis and Bea moved back to Southampton. Upon retirement, Lewis and Bea were antique dealers in Southampton. Lewis was also a master gardener who won many prizes for his beautiful flowers at the Tara Fair. He judged at local fairs, was an ardent bridge player, a lawn bowler, and a square dancer, helping to organize Southampton square dance jamborees for a number of years in the 1980s. Lewis and Bea spent their winters in Mesa, Arizona for 21 years after retirement where they made many friends and loved square dance, music, bridge, and travel. Lewis was on the 1996 Arizona state shuffleboard championship team. Most importantly, Lewis was the most loving and supportive husband, father and grandfather imaginable. Many thanks to Dr. Don McCulloch, the Southampton Day Away program, and the wonderful staff of Gateway Haven in Wiarton. Interment and a memorial service will be delayed for the present because Bea has a fractured hip. Bea's mailing address is P.O. PLATER, Linda Elizabeth 2009-07-03 Mrs. Linda Elizabeth Plater, aged 80 years, passed away peacefully with her family at her side at Grandview Lodge Home for the Aged on Wednesday, July 1, 2009. Linda was born on April 4, 1929 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She met the love of her life, Ernie, at the Great Lakes Paper Bush Camp in Graham and they married on June 10, 1948 in Eriksdale, Manitoba. Linda enjoyed spoiling her grandchildren, working in her yard, knitting, painting, poetry and feeding the birds. She was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Ladies Auxiliary and Order of the Eastern Star. Left to cherish her memory are her children Beverley, Dana (Cyril), Kelly (Ron), Monty (Jeanette) and Chris(Dawn); grandchildren Jamie (Marnie), Matthew, Hannah, Emma, Coleman, Alexis, Jaimi, Jon-Robert, Elizabeth and David; great grandchildren Zack and Daniel; sisters Lorna and Doreen; brother Leonard as well as many other relatives. Predeceased by her parents Ingolver and Esther Gudmundson, husband Ernie, daughter Patricia Anne and brother Dennis. LINDSAY, James W. 1929 - 2009 It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of beloved father and grandfather, James Lindsay on July 1, 2009. He was surrounded by his adoring daughters Susan (Joel Schrier) and Nancy (Luc Buffe). He left us to join his beloved Jacqueline who predeceased him on December 8, 2008. A wonderful, loving, caring person and lifelong active Scouter (Knight of Tamara), he will be sorely missed by all. We have all been truly blessed to have had him in our lives. HEBERT, Kenneth Lawrence ( The Sewing Machine Doctor) - Passed away suddenly at the Pembroke Regional Hospital on Wednesday July 1, 2009 in his 63RD year. Ken Hebert, loved and devoted son of Lawrence and Rose (nee Laginski) of Round Lake Centre. Ken will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by his aunts and uncles, Xavier and Edna Laginski, Florence Cybulski both of Round Lake and Ricci Sebes, Toronto. Ken will be forever remembered by all his cousins and friends. McCULLOCH, Donelda Blanche - Born August 12, 1925 in Euphrasia Township, Donelda was the daughter of the late Charles Luther and Blanche (née Smith) Rear. She passed away peacefully at the Meaford Hospital on Wednesday, July 1, 2009, at the age of 83. A longtime resident of the Beaver Valley community and Thornbury, Donelda was predeceased by her beloved husband, Allen Douglas McCulloch, in August 2008. She is lovingly remembered by her children Sharon (Jim) Lobsinger of Clarksburg, Dorothy LeClair of Collingwood, Douglas McCulloch and Marvin McCulloch both of Thornbury, and Karl (Wendy) McCulloch also of Clarksburg. Donelda was predeceased by a son Myles and she will be sadly missed by her 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Donelda was predeceased by brothers Meryvn Rear, Everett Rear, Melville (late Eleanor) Rear, and by sisters Lenora (late Percy) Sanderson and Sadie (late Bill) Sanderson. Donelda will be remembered also as a sister-in-law of Jackie Rear of Collingwood, Ted (Dorothy) McCulloch of Brampton, Marion (late Sam) Robinson of Collingwood, Ilene (Murray) Stephens of Kitchener and Donna (late John) McCulloch of Collingwood and was predeceased by a brother-in-law, Lloyd McCulloch of Wasaga Beach. She will be remembered also by her several nieces and nephews and their families. A family service of committal and interment, conducted by Reverend Gary Parker, will take place at Thornbury- Clarksburg Union Cemetery on Friday, July 3, 2009. Daughter of the late Phillip and Eva Lefoley. Beloved wife of 66 years of James Nicholls predeceased 2006. Loving and devoted mother of Philip predeceased (Mairead of Sault Ste. Marie), Lois (Giuseppe) Sorbera of Toronto, Joseph (Irene), Veronica (Rick) Mucin, Jerome (Brenda) of Sudbury and Marion (Dan) Fantetti of Tecumseh. Treasured “Grandma“ of her 18 grandchildren Michael, Carmel, David, Deanna, Damian, John, Karen, Anna, Amanda (predeceased), Sarah, Kelsey, Greg, Christina, Jeffrey, Jenna, Kristen, Steven and Bryan and 11 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. Cherished sister of Dalton (Nora) of Webbwood and Arthur, Norman, Clarence, Cleo and Jackie all predeceased. Sadly missed by her many nieces and nephews. Special aunt to Tom Shannon of Lively and special “Eileen“ to the Burns family of Webbwood. Eileen was born and raised in Webbwood. She moved to Creighton Mine after marrying Jimmy in 1940. She was a devoted Roman Catholic of deep faith, an active member of St. Michael's Parish in Creighton, and a parishioner of St. Lawrence Church in Webbwood and Our Lady Hope Parish in Sudbury. She was a member of the Catholic Women's League for over 40 years. The center of Eileen's life was her family. Her most enjoyment came from preparing meals and treats for them and for anyone else who happened to drop in. Gardening was her passion and her flower selection rivaled that of any greenhouse. Being one of the last to vacate Creighton Mine in 1980, she and Jimmy returned to her family homestead, “the farm“ in Webbwood, returning in 2000 to Sudbury. She will be forever remembered for her kind and gentle spirit and her unconditional love. Thank you to Dr. Moe St. Martin and the staff and friends at Eileen's Pioneer Manor home whose care for her kept the twinkle in her eyes. Thank you to Dr. Thornsteinson and the nursing staff at the Laurentian Site, especially Josee whose support to our family and her care and compassion helped mom leave in a peaceful and dignified manner. We know that Mom is now at peace with her Lord and Savior. KRANENBURG, Machtilda 2009-07-03 Machtilda Kranenburg, age 90, passed away peacefully on June 30th at Thunder Bay Regional HSC with family by her side. Tilly was born in the Netherlands and immigrated to Canada in 1951. She resided in Chatham until 1995 and then moved to Thunder Bay with her husband. Tilly was proud to have owned and operated a beauty shop in Chatham for many years. Afterwards, she helped her husband with his Dutch Import store until their retirement. Tilly is predeceased by her husband Dirk. She will be lovingly remembered by her children Wilma (John) Renkema, Harry (Joan), Bill, Alyce (Henry) Aukema, Nancy (Peter) Tillberg and sister Hetty Hordyk. She is survived by 48 grandchildren, great-grand children and numerous other relatives.
