COCHRANE, William O. (Bill) World War II Veteran Peacefully with family by his side, on May 28, 2009 after a lengthy battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis. FINLAYSON, David Ian 1928 - 2009 Peacefully passed away Friday, May 29, 2009 at the age of eighty years. Much loved husband of Louise Jefferys. Ian emigrated to Canada June 14, 1949, where he began his career with The Hudson's Bay Company. He considered himself fortunate to have had the opportunity to travel to all parts of Canada, East, West, South and North into the Arctic. Following his retirement, he was an active volunteer with the SFIS class of Place Cartier. He devoted sixteen years, three days a week to these exceptional students. Latterly, he was a volunteer at Bayview Center in Pointe-Claire. Ian was noted for his sharp wit, humor, kindness and generosity. He will be missed by his friends, cousins, nieces and nephews in Stirling, Scotland. Funeral from J.J. GLINZ , Harold July 3, 1918 - June 1, 2009 Harold was born in Helmsdale, Alberta. He is survived by his wife Bea "Eva"; six children, Kevin (Bertha), Rita (Ken), Allan, Michael, Ruth (Roger) and Robin; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Harold was predeceased by his parents; four brothers, Kevin, Lyle, Kenneth and Andy; daughter Sheila and grandson Jordi. Harold was a heavy duty mechanic, retired from Local 37. Marjorie was born August 11, 1916 in Evesham, Saskatchewan. Marjorie is survived by her loving daughter Brenda (Bruce) Metcalfe; daughter-in-law Irene McCrae; grandchildren Susan, Larry (Janice), Colin (Lorna), Janet (Karl), Kevin (Shannon), Shaun (Barbara), Ross (Andrea) and Cindy; great-grandchildren Trae, Sarah, Christopher, Brandon, Kayley, Jordan, Madison, Spencer, Keaton, Colten, Joey and Alexis; sisters-in-law Phyllis Ford, Rose McCrae and Ruby McCrae as well as several nieces and nephews. MARSHALL, Betty Mai (née Sutherland) - August 16, 1927 - May 28, 2009. Loving sister of Donald Sutherland of Churchville, ON and mother of Trevor Marshall (Mairi MacDonald) of Toronto. Betty was the daughter of the late Eric and Vida (Gunn- Munro) Sutherland. Betty was married twice: to Harry Cheer in 1953 and, following his death, to Leonard William Marshall from 1963 until his death in 1997. Betty trained at the Toronto General Hospital from 1948 to 1951 and worked as a private duty nurse in Toronto until 1967. Her career shaped her independent, practical and take-charge attitude to life, and her family is grateful to the friends in St. Catharines who helped her to maintain her independence until a few weeks before her death. Betty loved to tell stories about friends, family, families of friends, people she cared for, and life in Freelton ON, Toronto and St. Catharines. She was a keen gardener and loved many dogs, cats and other pets over the years. Private cremation entrusted to Butler Funeral Home. (nee Singer) (July 14, 1963 in Welland - June 1, 2009 in Grimsby) - It is with profound sadness and deep regret that we announce the passing of Sonya DalPra at the young age of 45. After a short but courageous battle with cancer, she died peacefully, surrounded by her loving husband and devoted family at McNally House in Grimsby on Monday, June 1, 2009. Beloved wife of John DalPra of Grimsby. Cherished daughter of Olga Varga (Steve). Loved sister of Susan Fleury, Caroline Davis (Mike), Stephen Singer. Dear aunt of Tara and Karen Fleury, Anna Gambioli, Rachel, Cassie and Billy Davis, Anthony, John Carlo and Alexa and Nicholas DalPra. Sonya graduated from Notre Dame College School (Welland) in 1981 and McMaster School of Nursing (St. Catharines) in 1985. She enjoyed a long and rewarding career in nursing. She had worked at Welland County General Hospital Emergency, McMaster Hospital GI Unit, Dr. McCellgan (Hamilton), and for the Hamilton-Wentworth Detention Centre as a Mental Health Nurse. She was also a member of the Canadian Hungarian Christian Association. Sonya had a love for gardening, art, music, cooking, antiques, spending time at the cottage and her dog Army. Born in Zloczow, Poland in 1920, son of the late Mary Nikelska and Micheal Barylewicz. Frank was a Custodian for the “Pines“ for many years, retiring in 1984 and was a member of Our Lady of Victory Church. He came to Canada in 1949, was a founding member of the Polish Community and played an important role in establishing and building Our Lady of Victory Church here in Chatham. Dear father of John and wife Brenda of Chatham, Henry and wife Lucille of Chatham, Victoria Lutz and husband Don of London and Frank Jr. and wife Bonnie of Port Stanley.
