Mrs. Mary Sopatyk June 14, 1915 - March 19, 2009 - Mary Sopatyk June 14, 1915 – March 19, 2009 The passing of Mrs. Mary Sopatyk, age 93 of Saskatoon, SK, and formerly of Vonda, SK, occurred suddenly at Royal University Hospital on Thursday, March 19, 2009. Mary was born on June 14, 1915 in Prud’homme, SK to parents Nick and Nettie Hryniuk. She had four sisters, Dora (Peter) Trischuk, Sophie (Michael) Ochitwa, Lena Hryniuk, and Nettie (Nick) Boyko; two brothers, William Hryniuk and Michael Hryniuk. Mary married Michael Sopatyk in 1937. They farmed at St. Denis, SK for a number of years before buying land by Vonda in 1944. She is survived by three sons, thirteen grandchildren and seven great grandchildren, son, Orest (Patricia) of Vonda, and their children, Charlotte, Debbie (Curtis) Jabusch – their children - (Nicholas, Elizabeth and Samantha), Shelley (Corey) Klassen, Timothy – his children - (Katarina and Anthony), and Kimberly (Fred) Regal - their children – (Ethan and Jacob); son, Leonard of Saskatoon, SK, and his children, Danielle, Kaylee, and Lukas; son, Terry (Pat) and their children, Chad, Chelsea, and Cody; grandsons, Rick (Connie) and Randy Symak. She was predeceased by her parents, Nick (1973) and Nettie (1930); sisters, Nettie (2004), Dora (1998), sister, Sophie (2004); brothers, William (1988), Michael (1935), twin sister, Lena (in infancy 1915); husband, Michael (2001); daughter, Elsie Symak (1999), son-in-law, Morris Symak (1992), and grandson, Gord Symak (2001). Mary and Michael lived in Vonda until 1981, when they retired to Saskatoon. Baba loved to garden and grew many beautiful flowers. She was always busy with her hands whether it was embroidering, knitting, crocheting, baking or canning. After moving to the city she even joined a senior bowling league. Baba belonged to the Ukrainian Women’s Association of Canada and the church senior choir. Once a week Baba would go make varenyky at the church hall. She loved having her grandchildren visit her and spending time with her great-grandchildren. One of her pastimes was playing Kaiser when we would come over. Baba especially loved going for Chinese food, KFC, and ice cream. “We Love You Baba” The Prayer Service will be held at Park Funeral Chapel, 311 Third Avenue North, on Tuesday, March 24, 2009 at 7:30 p.m. The Funeral Service will be held at the Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral of The Holy Trinity, 919 20th Street West on Wednesday, March 25, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. officiated by Very Rev. Born on August 13, 1931 in Woodstock, NB she was the daughter of the late Hazen and Marion (McLaughlin) Tompkins, of Bath, NB. Wife of the late George JM Love (RCMP). She was a loving mother, doting grandmother and always followed in her grandchildren’s activities, such as, speed skating, soccer, school activities, etc. Joan loved “eating out”, road trips and her cats, Levi, Vinnie and Pebbles. She will be sadly missed by her daughter, Elizabeth “Beth” Smith (Joe), of Saint John; grandchildren, Erin and Scott Smith, who affectionately called her Noanie; brother, Kent (Elaine) Tompkins, of Bath, NB and several nieces and nephews. Resting at Castle Funeral Home, “Fallsview Chapel”, 309 Lancaster Ave., Saint John West (634-1701) visitation will take place on Wednesday, March 18, 2009 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 19, 2009 from Castle Funeral Home. BYRNE, Thomas Francis (T.F.) - September 26, 1919 - March 17, 2009 In Toronto, passed away peacefully at the age of 89. Loving husband of 59 years of Margaret (nee Huntley). Devoted Dad to Christopher (Anda), Loretta, Theresa, Megan (John), and Kathleen (Jim). Loving Papa to Kerrie. He leaves his sister Gertrude Sayer in Ottawa. Uncle to many nieces and nephews. Proudly served with the RCAF and the RAFin the then-new field of radar. Called to the Bar in 1950. Thomas enjoyed a long career in private practice, specializing laterally in corporate law under the firm name Byrne Crosby. The family would like to thank the staff at Westburn Manor for their compassion and loving care. DUNPHY, Mrs. Mary M. Passed away peacefully in hospital on March 25, 2009, at the age of 97.
