MATEJOVITS, Lenke (nee Kalman) Passed away on Sunday, March 22, 2009, at age 76, after a long struggle with cancer. Beloved wife of the late Laszlo Matejovits. Loving mother of Erika (Tim Dugas). Cherished Nagymama of Jacky, Stephen and Michelle. Adored great grand godmother of Emily. Much loved sister of Arpi (Maria), Vera and the late Imre and Bandi. FARLEY, (Herbert) Lee Passed away quietly on March 23, 2009 at the age of sixty after a long and courageous battle with cancer at the West Island Palliative Care Residence. He is survived by his wife, Catherine (Williamson), two sons, Thomas (Brandi-Ann), Ryan (Allison), grandson David and sister Lorna (Glen). He will also be sadly missed by his many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and friends. BLANCHARD, Richard (Dick) 1940-2009 After a valiant battle with cancer, Dick passed away peacefully on March 23, 2009. In Memory of Ross McLean It is with a heavy heart that I write these words in memory of my husband Ross. One year ago a complication of cancer took him quickly and unexpectedly. He passed away at the Tom Baker Centre on March 26th, 2008. He was 56 years old. Ross spent the last 23 years of his life operating the company he built and loved, Paramount Drilling & Blasting. Known never to shy from the most challenging of projects, Ross took on some of the most spectacular of rock jobs. His advice was sought by many, his guidance given freely unless it involved the stock market. His legacy lives on. Through his passion for the Lord, his love for others and his sense of humour, Peter brought a depth to life and a richness of relationship to those around him. A man of integrity, he was a blessing in the lives of all who knew him and he will be deeply missed. ROBERT STANLEY CHRISTIANSEN Peacefully on Sunday, March 22, 2009 at La Verendrye Hospital in Fort Frances, Ont., Robert Christiansen of Fort Frances passed away at the age of 82. Robert was born Sept. 27, 1926 in Fort Frances to the late John and Anna (Olson). He was united in marriage to Irene Reich in Fort Frances on March 22 1947. Robert worked for 42 years for the Fort Frances paper mill as a pipe fitter. He enjoyed coaching minor hockey and baseball, and was a valued member of the Granite Masonic Lodge #446 and the Fort Frances Royal Canadian Legion Br. #29. Robert’s love for gardening, fishing, and hockey will always be remembered. Robert will be forever remembered by his sons, Alan (Sherri McCormack) of Fort Frances, Ont. and Lee of Grande Prairie, Alta.; grandchildren, Richard Christiansen (Grande Prairie, Alta.), and John and Angel McCormack; and great-grandchildren, Brayden and Rhett Christiansen. He also will be sadly missed by his extended family, Bob Berg, Florence (Bernard) Richard, Carol (Mike) Botts, and Roy Allen and their families; brothers, Harold, Ernest, and Walter Christiansen; sister, Nancy Lavigne; and sisters-in-law, Ingrid Christiansen and Lilly Ann Braford. Robert was predeceased by his wife, Irene; special niece, Lynda Allen; brothers, Henry and George Christiansen; and sisters, Edith Berg, Inga Pearson, Donna Mae Little, and Alphild Christiansen. Paulette Marie Greenner, born June 22, 1943, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 19, 2009 at home after a courageous battle with lung cancer. She was predeceased by her parents, Valerien and Stella Gervais. She is survived by her beloved husband, Sid Greenner; four brothers, Ronald (Sylvia) and Robert of London, Ont., Andre (Diane) of Burlington, Ont., and Paul Gervais of Timmins, Ont.; and two sisters, Marilyn Simpson of Courtenay, B.C. and Michelle Pladzyk of Timmins, Ont. She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews who loved their Aunt Polly dearly. Paulette was born in Ansonville, Ont. and was employed at Ontario Hydro for 34 years. She was an outdoors girl who loved hiking with the “Chicks with Sticks.” Her love of travel took her to all seven continents over the years, with the most thrilling being her Antarctic trip, taken with her husband just one year ago. She was compassionate and spent her life mentoring those around her, leading by her positive example of faith in action.. She took great joy in being with others, and always made the most of time spent with family and friends. In June, 2008, with her husband, she moved to her favourite place, the Comox Valley. A mass of Christian burial took place Monday, March 23, 2009 at 11 a.m. at Christ the King Roman Catholic Church in Courtenay, followed by a reception in the lower hall. Cremation with burial is to take place at a later date. SALOMON, Terry Peter 2009-03-26 It is with great sadness that the family announces the death of Terry Peter Salomon of Thunder Bay. Terry passed away after a courageous battle with his illness in Toronto General Hospital on Monday, March 23, 2009. Terry was born July 1958 in Fort William, Ontario, son of Elsie and Peter Salomon of Thunder Bay. Terry attended Francis Street Public School, Kingsway and Selkirk high school. He then went on to graduate from the Radio College of Canada as a certified electronic technologist. Following graduation, Terry was employed by Miskelly‘s and then later with CRC Communications. Church, family and friends were very important to Terry. He was member of the St. George‘s Society at Church of the Holy Cross and participated in many church functions. Terry was a caring, compassionate and selfless man, always willing to lend a hand to whomever needed it. Terry shared his time and effort ensuring his mother was well cared for following the death of his father. Terry had a second degree black belt in karate and was a long-standing member of the Thunder Bay Karate School. He was also an avid fisherman and outdoorsman. At any opportunity, he would pack up his boat and gear and head for Lac Des Mille Lacs. Terry loved to putter in his garden and yard. Terry was proud of his Ukrainian heritage participated for many years in Chaban Ukrainian Dance Group, a tradition still shared by his two sons today. Terry was an extremely dedicated father to his two sons Andrew and Brandon. He was very proud of them both and spent as much family time as possible on numerous trips and vacations. Terry was truly loved by all who knew him. He was predeceased by his father, Peter Salomon. He is survived by his mother Elsie, his sister Darcie (Tony) Camilleri of Brampton, Ontario, brothers Murray (Karen) of Thunder Bay, Larry (Judy) of Cambridge Ontario, and Carl (Julia) of Thunder Bay. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins. Terry will be sadly missed by all those who loved him. Funeral services for Terry will be held on Saturday, March 28, 2009 when family and friends will gather for Liturgy in Church of the Holy Cross at 9:30 a.m. celebrated by Rev. Andrija Petresin. A private family interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery. Panachyda (visitation) will be offered on Friday, March 27, at 7:00 p.m. in Church of the Holy Cross on West Victoria Avenue. Mr. Damien "Darryl" Duhart July 30, 1945 - March 18, 2009 - 63, passed away March 18, 2009, in the Dartmouth General Hospital, with family by his side. Born July 30, 1945, in Corner Brook, N.L., he was the son of Hubert and Mary Duhart of Corner Brook. Darryl worked in the Plastics Industry for many years in Toronto, Ont. and in Dartmouth, and later worked as a custodian at Cole Harbour Place, Cole Harbour. Darryl was known to be a pleasant, friendly, hardworking man who enjoyed photography. To those who knew him well he was humourous, a gifted writer, poet and storyteller. Darryl was a dedicated parishioner of St. Vincent de Paul Parish. He is survived by his daughters, Dawn (Mark) and Gillian (Steven); and son, Warren (Deanna); grandsons, Ryan and Mitchell; his parents, Hubert and Mary Duhart; and siblings, Brenda (Duhart) Clark, Myra (Duhart) Anderson, Wayne Duhart, Tony Duhart, Ona (Duhart) Randall, Doris Gurski; aunt, Una Parson-Hutchings; and many more extended family. Darryl was predeceased by his loving wife of 35 years, Betty. They are now eternally "together forever". A heartfelt thank you from the family for all the support over the past few months. Raymond Laplante, ptre 1927-2009 À la résidence Cardinal-Vachon, le 24 mars 2009, à l'âge de 81 ans et 4 mois, est décédé monsieur Raymond Laplante, prêtre, fils de feu dame Mathilda Robitaille et de feu monsieur Albert Laplante. Après des études primaires à l'école St-François d'Assise, son cours classique à l'Externat St-Jean-Eudes et ses études théologiques au Grand Séminaire de Québec, il fut ordonné prêtre au Colisée de Québec en 1952. Son ministère s'exerça comme vicaire à St-Gervais et St-Charles de Bellechasse ainsi qu'à St-Romuald. Il fut aumônier de l'hôpital Christ-Roi tout en obtenant une maîtrise en pastorale médicale à l'Université Laval. Il fut curé de 1975 à 1978 à St-Michel de Sillery, de 1978 à 1986 à St-Augustin-de-Desmaures et de 1986 à 1996 à St-Joachim (Beaupré) puis aumônier des soeurs de St-Joseph de St-Vallier à l'Oratoire St-Joseph de Québec de 1996 à 2000. Il sera exposé à l'Oratoire St-Joseph de Québec 560, chemin Sainte-Foy, Québec le vendredi 27 mars 2009 de 19h à 21h et le samedi 28 mars 2009 de 9h30 à 11h. Le service religieux aura lieu au même endroit, le samedi 28 mars 2009 à 11h et de là au cimetière St-Charles. Il laisse dans le deuil ses soeurs: feu Lucienne (feu Maurice Lepire - feu Henri Falardeau), Marguerite (feu Joachim Lemieux), Jacqueline (Jules E. Leclerc) et Monique (René Poitras); sa tante Rachel Robitaille; ses nombreux neveux, nièces, cousins, cousines, amis(es) et confrères. Fred Westover, 79, of Rainy River, Ont., passed away Tuesday, March 17, 2009 at the Rainy River Health Centre in Rainy River with his family by his side. Fred was born Oct. 28, 1929 in Barwick, Ont. to the late William and Edna Westover. He began working for the CNR in 1954, and remained at that job until he retired in 1990. Fred married Margaret Mose in Oct. 20, 1956 and together they had six children, 18 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. He enjoyed helping others and was a creative problem-solver. Fred is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Margaret, and their children, Brent (Donna), Beth (Darrell), Faye (Don), Dixie (Tracy), Eric (Carla), and Elaine (Jered) and their families. He also is survived by his brother, Milton Westover; sister, Margaret Westover; many in-laws; and nieces and nephews. Fred was predeceased by his brothers, Don (Jessie), Jim, and Bill Westover; sisters, Helen (Irwin) Pretty and Iva Olson (Erling); and sister-in-law, Annie Westover. Family and friends were received Friday, March 20, 2009 from 7-9 p.m. at the Northridge Funeral Home in Emo, Ont., where funeral services were held Saturday March 21, 2009 at 1 p.m. Richard Raschke, Louise Carlson, and Carol Grey officiated. A reception followed at the Royal Canadian Legion in Emo. Interment will take place in Barwick Cemetery in Barwick at a later date. The pallbearers were Brent Westover, Eric Westover, Darrell Moe, Tracy Thue, Don Fisher, and Jered Stinson. The honourary pallbearers were all of Fred’s grandchildren. MacDONALD, William Duncan (July 21, 1954 - March 19, 2009) Bill left us on March 19, 2009 after a brief illness ended his life - a life that was also too brief. Bill made friends effortlessly with his winning, easy smile, sense of humour, and lightning quick wit. His comical expressions will leave us chuckling for many years to come. Despite his acute discomfort, particularly for someone who loved sports such as motorcycling, skiing, and Ultimate Frisbee, Bill continued to charm us and make new friends even while in hospital. "Darn, I should've checked the expiry date on my foot" was his response to his terminal diagnosis seven short weeks ago. Bill was generous beyond measure, always helping others, often at his own expense. An electronics wizard from a very young age, Bill never failed to amaze us with his incredible talents and ability to fix anything mechanical, electronic, and automotive. Sadly, he was unable to fix his health, leaving a huge gap in the lives of those who love him. Bill was predeceased by his mother, Jean, in 2003. He will be intensely missed by his father, Al, his sister, Barb, and brother-in-law Steve Sabjan (Cochrane, Alberta) as well as exceptional friends Brian, Doris, Susan, Doug, Uncle Gord, cousin Wendy and other close friends who supported him during the past couple of months. We know Bill would want to thank, one more time, the staff of Unit 6 West at the Ottawa General Hospital, especially Peter for his excellent care, Pat, from palliative care for her compassion and friendship, and Drs. Lee and Regnier. The angels at the palliative care unit at Elisabeth Bruyere Hospital also deserve heartfelt thanks for providing Bill with dignity, comfort and privacy during his short stay with them. This deep appreciation is also extended to Dr. Jamila Al-Faris and Dr. Allard for their empathy. And, a special thank you goes to Peggy and Stephanie; you are both incredible nurses! At Bill's request there will be no funeral. An interment ceremony will take place in Calgary this summer. If friends desire, a contribution to the Elisabeth Bruyere Hospital Foundation might provide opportunities for more people to experience the wonderful care Bill and his family received at their palliative care unit ( www.bruyere.org ). It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother.Mary Rose, in her 97th year, passed away peacefully on March 19th at Tecumseh Extendicare with her loving family at her side. Mary was deeply admired for her beautiful flower gardens and was an outstanding cook. In her prime she was called upon to prepare and serve a meal to Prime Minister McKenzie King. The Prime Minister was so impressed that he sought her out in the kitchen and complimented her on the “best meal” he ever had. Mrs. Irene Norma Zary September 12, 1937 - March 16, 2009 - Irene Norma Zary September 12, 1937 – March 16, 2009 It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Irene on Monday, March 16, 2009 at the age of 71 years after a courageous battle with cancer with Andy at her side. Irene is survived by her husband, Andy Zary; daughter, Laura Zary (Rob Jackson) and her daughter, Ebonie; son, Randy (Shirley) Zary; sister, Evelyn (Peter) Johnson; sisters-in-law, Elsie Hrycan, Sylvia (Orest) Harasymchuk, Diane (Ron) Rudolph; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was predeceased by her parents, Violet and Glen Kohlsmith Irene was born in Mission, British Columbia. After completing high school in Agassiz, BC Irene moved to Kitimat, BC and worked for BC Tel and Alcan. This is where she met Andy. After getting married they moved to Saskatoon, and in 1963 they started A.L. Zary Transport, which they successfully ran together until they retired in 1999. Irene was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister who loved the outdoors, fishing, baking apple pies, spending time with her granddaughter Ebonie, and her best friend Bernice. It was once said that Irene always caught the first and biggest fish and if she did not catch a fish then they just weren’t biting. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at St. Paul’s Hospital Palliative Care Unit they are truly special people. The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, March 20, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. at Westgate Alliance Church, 3315 Centennial Drive, Saskatoon, SK with Rev. Dr. Frank Jeske officiating.
