KANYO, Susan (nee MacPherson) - of Wainfleet passed away suddenly with her family at her side on Thursday March 12, 2009 at the Welland County General Hospital at the age of 39 years. Beloved wife of Jeff, devoted mother of Jacob, Megan and Alison all at home, cherished daughter of Marlene (Timothy) Medhurst, dear sister of Scott (Stacie) MacPherson and Cindy (Jeff) Carr, dear granddaughter of Elizabeth Kerrigan, loving Aunt of Laura, Darren, Celia, Rachel, Kendra, Abbey and Olivia, she will be fondly remembered by her mother-in-law Elizabeth Kanyo. She was predeceased by her father Douglas MacPherson, her father in law Zoli Kanyo and her grandparents Margaret and David MacPherson. Susan was the number one volunteer at William E. Brown Public School where the students will all dearly miss her. She enjoyed driving her school bus and loved all of the children she met everyday. Susan's family will receive visitors at the PORT COLBORNE CHAPEL of the DAVIDSON FUNERAL HOMES, 135 Clarence St. on Sunday March 15, 2009 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm. A funeral service will be held at the Port Colborne Baptist Church on Monday March 16th at 1:00pm with visitation at the church one hour prior to service time. Cremation will follow. O'QUINN, Cpl Kenneth Chad It is with great sadness that the family of Corporal Kenneth Chad O'Quinn announces his death while serving in Afghanistan on March 3rd, 2009. Born January 25th, 1984 in Happy Valley, Goose Bay, NL. He was the son of Kenneth and Rhonda (Decker) O'Quinn of Rusagonis, NB and fiance to Naomi Holder of Ottawa, ON. Chad was a great individual who took tremendous pride in being a member of the Canadian Forces. A loving son, Chad cherished his family. Throughout his two tours in Afghanistan, he telephoned, emailed and messaged his family each and every day. He highly valued his faith, his health and loved ones. He challenged life and encouraged others to do the same. A member of the Signals Branch, he was a dedicated soldier who believed in the value of his contribution to the mission in Afghanistan. Chad is survived by his parents, Kenneth and Rhonda; his fiancee, Naomi; his brother and best friend, Adam O'Quinn (Myriah) and their daughter, Alexis of Rusagonis, NB; maternal grandmother, Dorcas Jane (Jean) Decker of Centreville, NL; paternal grandparents, Alex and Rosaline of South Branch, NL as well as several aunts, uncles and cousins and his beloved pitbull, Onyx. Chad is predeceased by his maternal grandfather, Alfred Decker. Visitation will be held at the Oromocto Select Community Funeral Home on Friday, March 13th, 2009 from 2-4 & 7-9 pm. It is with great regret that we announce the passing of Andy Varjas of Woodlawn, Ontario on March 10, 2009 at the age of 62, with his loving wife Charley and his devoted mother Martha at his side. Andy was seen to be gregarious, caring, passionate and above all a gentleman. He was admired and respected by family, friends, colleagues and all who knew and met him. He leaves behind his wife, Charlene (McGuire) Varjas, his mother Martha Varjas and a large extended family of sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, his father-in-law, nieces and nephews who were all very close to his heart. Anneliese was born in St. Peter, Germany and courageously came to Canada as a young woman to marry Alex, her husband of forty-five years. Anneliese was a proud member of St. Cecilia's Catholic Church and was part of the church choir. HARDER, Jake 1931 - 2009 Jake Harder passed away on March 5, 2009, at the age of 77 years. He will be deeply missed by his loving wife Thelma of fifty-five years, and his three daughters, Joan (Dennis) Shmyr, Kim (Randy) Boyd, and Kelli (Karl) Wilde. He will also be remembered by his five granddaughters, Teri Lynn (Rene) LeCerf, Ashley (Brandon) Taylor, Katelynn, Olivia and Victoria Wilde. He is survived by his brother, Edwin Harder and sister Leona Wiebe. Jake was born in Gretna, Manitoba on June 2, 1931. On April 4, 1953 he married the love of his life Thelma. They lived in Altona, Manitoba where they had three daughters. In 1978 they moved west to Sundre, Alberta where Jake continued his secular career of trucking and gravel crushing. Jake's first priority throughout his life, was his whole-souled service to Jehovah. He was a deeply spiritual person who spent many hours each week helping others understand Bible promises. Jake trusted wholeheartedly in the Bible's promise of a resurrection to life in a paradise earth. Until then, he rests, knowing he is in the safest place, Jehovah's memory. His example, his strong faith, and his life of faithful service, to his God Jehovah will long be remembered by his family and countless friends. MacDONALD, Allan Duncan February 3, 1934 - March 6, 2009 Al passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on March 6, 2009. Born in Stavely, Alberta to parents Jessie and James MacDonald, the youngest son of seven siblings. Al worked for the Bank of Commerce and then changed careers in 1958, joining E.D. Adams Real Estate and Insurance. In 1967 Al started his own company, MacDonald Realty Ltd. where he made many lifelong friends and business associates. Al excelled at athletics, including hockey, baseball and golf. He joined the Earl Grey Golf Club in 1957 and has played many rounds with "The Slippery Seven Group" and other friends. Scottsdale, Arizona became Ruth and Al's winter destination playing at Camelback. Al is survived by his wife of fifty-three years, Ruth (Eskeland), his son Danny (Ingunn) of Norway, his daughters Pamela (Murray Nesbitt) and Elaine (Bill Waddell) and granddaughters Danielle and Adrian Doornbos all of Calgary. POWELL, Steve Joe October 24, 1918 - March 10, 2009 Steve Joe Powell, beloved husband of Genevieve of Calgary, passed away on Tuesday, March 10, 2009 at the age of 90 years. Steve served during WWII from 1939 to 1945. He went on to become one of Calgary's first landscapers, owned and operated Steve's Barber Shop in Inglewood for approximately fifteen years, and then Brentwood Barber and Style Shop, retiring in 1982. Steve was an excellent bowler and pool player. Besides his loving wife, Steve is survived by sons and daughter-in-law, Ken, Brian, Tom and Kathy; daughter and son-in-law, Cathy and Kevin Philipow; beloved granddaughter, Amanda; and daughter Marie; brothers and sisters-in-law, Frank (Irene) Pawlowski, Sid (Irene) Pawlowski, Andy (Minnie) Powell, and Walter (Olga) Powell; sisters and brother-in-law, Josephine Draganiuk, Olga (Leo) Gauthier and sister-in-law Helen Powell; and as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her granddaughter Lisa. Trudy was born on September 8, 1927 and immigrated to Canada in 1939 to Tupper BC. She married and raised her family in Scarborough before retiring to Campbell River to enjoy the ocean view of their condo there. Trudy and Armand returned to Toronto to reside in Mississauga only 6 months ago. She enjoyed her family and friends most of all. Mrs. C. Marie Harrison February 18, 1929 - March 9, 2009 Marie Harrison age, 80 of Amherst passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on Monday, March 9, 2009 at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre in Upper Nappan. Born in Amherst, she was a daughter of the late Bavily and Elizabeth (Bryenton) White. In her working career, she was employed with Waldale Ltd from where she retired as manager of the Record Department and later worked as a blueberry contractor for Hoeg Bros. Marie enjoyed bingo, crib, painting, gardening and had a special place in her heart for animals, especially her beloved cat Velcro. She was a member of the Immanuel United Church, Amherst where she was involved with the UCW. Marie will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her children, Linda (Aldo) Angelini of LaSalle, PQ, Bill (Lynn) Harrison of Winnipeg, Beverly (Glen) Knowlton of Advocate, NS, Bob (Ann) Harrison of Williamsdale, NS, Viola Harrison of Middle Sackville, NS and Mark (Vicki) Harrison of Amherst; sister, Viola Kastel of Mount Whatley, NB; ten grandchildren, Lee, Lise, Kristen, Steven, Joey, Jeremy, Mitzie, Jeremy, Lyndsey, and Michael; great grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews.
