OJA, Allan 2009-03-03 It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Allan Oja at Wilson Memorial General Hospital, Marathon, ON, on Friday, Feb. 13, 2009 with his loving family by his side. Allan was born in Port Arthur, ON on June 14, 1927 to Maria and Oscar Oja. He lived a while in Kaministiqua where he worked at bush camps, Port Arthur Ship Building, Port Arthur Co-Op Store and later at the American Can pulp mill in Marathon. Allan retired early in 1990 because of ill health. On Nov. 3, 1956 he married Stella in Port Arthur, ON. Allan nicknamed her “Chickadee” which was her name, for the rest of their marriage. Together they raised three sons, Kenneth, Barry and Bradley and he was a wonderful father. In his early years he enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, blueberry picking and camping with his family at uncle Mike‘s camp at McFarlane Lake in Sudbury, ON. He also travelled with Stella to Florida, Branson Missouri, Las Vegas, California and Jamaica on their 35th Wedding Anniversary. He especially liked the gambling trips to Hinckley, Minnesota which they took twice a year. He also enjoyed trips to Campbell River, BC. Allan was a 50 year member of the Loyal Order of Moose and volunteered for many years. He and his “Chickadee” attended many Saturday night dances. Recently he enjoyed his morning coffee breaks with his buddies Lionel, Mac, Larry, Clarence and Rick. They were always there with his coffee cup (I‘m Boss). He also enjoyed his Sunday night ’coffee‘ with Frank. Predeceased by his parents Maria and Oscar, mother-in-law Catherine, father-in-law John, sisters Aino, Helen, brothers, Steve, Arni, nephew Bill, brother-in-law George and sister-in-law Elsie. Allan is survived by his loving wife Stella of 52 years, sons Ken (Sharon), Barry (Corrie), Brad (Danielle); grandchildren Ashley, Justin, Robert, Jaric, Edwin, Taylor, Jenna; brother Tom (Ellen) Marathon, sister Aili, Winnipeg, brothers-in-law Carl, B.C., Hank and Bill, Thunder Bay; sisters-inlaw Judy and Mona in Thunder Bay and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place and a gathering will be held at a later date. If so desired a donation to the Wilson Memorial General Hospital or the Thunder Bay Health Sciences Centre would be appreciated.

Mr. Neves Francisco Das Dores Pereira August 5, 1926 - February 27, 2009 NEVES FRANCISCO DAS DORES PEREIRA, Aug 5, 1926 – Feb 27, 2009, passed away peacefully with his family at his side at York Central Hospital after a long and brave struggle without complaints and an unfailingly positive attitude. Loving husband of Urmilla, proud father of Neville, Jon, Suresh and Louella, beloved grandfather to Evan, Madeleine, Jesse and Jasmine, kind son-in-law to Susan (d), brother to Zulema (d), brother-in-law to Xavier, and uncle to Jocelyn. Neves was born in Nairobi, Kenya. Orphaned at the age of six, Neves was raised by Father Godinho in Goa, India. Over the course of thirteen years of university education, Neves earned undergraduate degrees from the University of Bombay, London University, and at the age of 44, Masters and PhD in Physics from the University of Toronto. Using his intellect and passion for learning Neves pulled himself up from humble and impoverished beginnings. An accomplished, self-taught musician, Neves played several instruments including the oboe, classical guitar and violin. A high point among his musical accomplishments was conducting the Mombasa Choral Society. A lifelong educator, Neves was the Principal of the Dr. Robeiro Goan School in Nairobi, and after moving to Canada in 1965, headed the Physics department for many years at Agincourt CI where he helped develop curriculum including the first Astronomy courses. Neves ended his teaching career as the Education Director at the Ontario Science Center, leading the gifted science student program. Neves raised his three sons with love and kindness while also passing on his dedication, drive and determination. He was knowledgeable on many topics yet also a humble man. The family dinner table was home to many wonderful discussions his sons took guidance from. For those lessons and countless other gifts including the generosity, kindness and welcome extended to all our friends, who knew his house was always open to them, we will always be grateful. Predeceased by his beloved wife of 60 years Vera Hetty May Hunt. Loving father of Barbara Jackson and husband Bill, Windsor; Vivienne Cote (Norm Hilton), Sault Ste. Marie; Gillian Jens and husband Chris, Grosse Pointe, Michigan. Will be sadly missed by son-in-law Jack Kell, and predeceased by sons-in-law Matt Lehtimaki and Jacques Cote. Reg was a lifetime member of the Canadian Anglo Club, St. Mark's by the Lake Anglican Church, and Royal Canadian Legion Branch 255. Reg retired from Chrysler Canada in 1984. A special thank you to the staff of Heron Terrace for their dedicated and loving care of Reg. He was always a gentleman and inspiration to all who knew him. Mr. William "Bill" Edward Milton January 2, 1925 - February 21, 2009 Milton, William Edward "Bill" Passed away peacefully, with family by his side, at Trillium Health Centre, Mississauga, on February 21, 2009 in his 85th year. Robert John "Jack" Patterson September 21, 1925 - February 25, 2009 It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Mr. Jack Patterson at the age of 83 years. Jack will be sorely missed and lovingly remembered by his wife Shirley, daughters: Karen (Tom) Trace and Wendy (David) Coleman, grandchildren: Joshua and Samantha and his brother Stanley Patterson. Jack was predeceased by his parents Pat and Grace Patterson. The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thanks to the staff of the Dickinsfield Care Centre for all of the care and support shown to Jack and his family. Mr. Jerome Frank Schneider November 25, 1934 - February 21, 2009 Jerome Frank Schneider 1934 – 2009 It is with great sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Jerome Frank Schneider, husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, age 74, which occurred at St. Paul’s Hospital on Saturday, February 21, 2009. Jerome was born on November 25, 1934 in the Allan and Young District and he attended Limestone School. Jerome was the second youngest child in a family of nine siblings. He leaves to mourn his loving and devoted wife of 49 years, Grace; son, Michael (Joyce) their children, Matthew, Vanessa and Kathleen; daughter, Michelle and fiancé Dan and her children, Jeffrey (Cindy) and Ashley and great grandchildren, Logan and Joshua. Also left to cherish his memory are sisters, Marcie Mitzel, Amy (Lawrence) Pavlich, Terri (Edward) Haberman; brothers, Pius, Lawrence (Kay); sister-in-law, Lucille Schneider; and numerous nieces and nephews. Jerome was predeceased by his parents, Kathryn and Michael; sister, Elizabeth Christopher; and brothers, Andrew and Raymond. Jerome moved to Saskatoon in the mid 1950’s. His first job in Saskatoon was working for John East Ironworks, later he joined Bannister Pipelines and then a nearly 30 year career with Sask Power (Sask Energy). Jerome met Grace Kuchta in 1957 and they were married two years later. Their family began with the birth of their son Michael (1961) and then daughter Michelle (1962). Family and friends were very important to Dad. He enjoyed their visits immensely, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He also enjoyed fishing, gardening, tinkering around the house, and a good card game. Dad liked traveling in Canada and the United States. Trips were fun for dad, especially when he traveled to Bismarck, ND to visit his sister Elizabeth. Dad truly loved animals, especially his little dog Mistzy who never left his side even when Dad got sick. Dad will also be remembered for his kind heart and generosity. Jerome was always willing to help out family and friends in need. However Dad never wanted it to be known. He will be greatly missed. Vigil of Prayer will be held on Wednesday, February 25, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. from Park Funeral Chapel, 311 Third Avenue North. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, February 26, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church, 3339 Centennial Drive, Saskatoon, SK with celebrant Rev. Fr. Kevin McGee. Rite of Committal will take place in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Jerome may be made to the St. Paul’s Hospital Foundation, the S.P.C.A. or the Queen’s House of Retreat, all of which are in Saskatoon. LAMPRON, Jacqueline (Bouchard) - 1946-2009 À Sherbrooke, le 25 février 2009, est décédée à l'âge de 62 ans, Mme Jacqueline Bouchard-Lampron, épouse de feu Lionel Lampron, demeurant à Richmond. La famille vous accueillera à l'église en présente des cendres, le JEUDI 5 mars 2009 à partir de 13 h afin de rencontrer les parents et amis et recevoir les marques de sympathie. La crémation a eu lieu au Crématorium Yves Houle. Funérailles le JEUDI 5 mars 2009 à 14 h, en l'église Sainte-Bibianne de Richmond. Mrs. Mona Patricia Watts November 27, 1914 - February 22, 2009 WATTS, Mona Patricia 94, Halifax. It is with great sadness that the family announce the passing of their beloved mother on February 22, 2009, in QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax, after a short illness. Born in Halifax, she was a daughter of the late Percy and Margaret (McDow) Lavers. Mona was life member of West End United Baptist Church where she was very involved in church affairs and taught Sunday School. She worked at Easton's Ltd. for many years and enjoyed the interactions she shared with her many friends and customers. Mona enjoyed many wonderful years at their summer cottage in Mill Cove. She will be sadly missed by her many friends and her "bingo buddies". She is survived by daughter, Linda (Gerry) Watts-Condon, Timberlea; sons, Donald (Marilyn), Dartmouth; Alan (Olivia), Innisfil, Ont.; grandchildren, Tanya, Tina, Craig, Sherry, Amanda, Alana, and Heather. Also great-grandchildren, Nicole, Matthew, Cole, Cameron and Jazz. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 60 years, Russell, who passed away in 2001; sisters, Dorothy and Beryl; niece, Patsy. Mr. Arnold Leach January 11, 1913 - February 26, 2009 On Thursday, February 26, 2009 Arnold passed away peacefully at the age of 96 years. Arnold was born in Carleton Place, Ontario on January 11, 1913. Arnold was predeceased by his wife of 64 years Jean (Jane) (nee McCartney); sisters Muriel Haakenson, Reta Scott, Lila Bell, Ali Leach; and daughter-in-law Gerry Leach (nee White). Arnold is survived by his son Don (Sheri); grandchildren Ken (Brenda), Rob (Bonnie), Brent (Joanna) and Wendy (Don); 11 great grandchildren; brothers Eddie (Anne), Murray (Dorothy); and numerous nieces and nephews. The Leach family moved from Carleton Place, Ontario in 1919 and settled on a farm at Grand Coulee. In 1927 the family moved to Regina where Arnolds father started a cartage business. After marrying the love of his life Jean, Arnold moved his family around Saskatchewan pursuing various entrepreneurial ventures; Rocanville (General Store), Wadena (car dealership as well as a farm implement dealership), Yorkton (vending machine business), and then returning to Regina where he had a number of years in the auto business. Later he, his son and Andy Moir established Custom Truck Sales a Kenworth Truck dealership serving the province of Saskatchewan. Arnold was very successful in business and was active at Custom Truck Sales until his retirement in 1977. He and Jean spent their time between their home in Regina Beach and Meza, Arizona. Arnold has many loves, it was all about Jean and his family, his cars, boating (though he never learned how to swim) and salmon fishing on the West coast. He had a great long time association (since June 10, 1955) with the friends of Bill W. The family wishes to thank all the people that cared for Arnold during his last years; the staff of 5F at the Regina General Hospital, the staff at William Albert Personal Care Home, Pat and the staff at the Bentley on Hillsdale. We would also like to thank his doctors who strived to provide the best care for him. A CELEBRATION OF ARNOLD’S LIFE will be held at Regina Funeral Home, Hwy #1 East, Regina, SK on Wednesday, March 4, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. A Private Family Interment will take place in the spring. ROSS, William (Bill) Lester It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our father and grandfather, William Lester (Bill) Ross, on Friday, February 27, 2009, just three months short of his 90th birthday. Bill was predeceased by his beloved wife, Rose, in 2000 and is survived by his sons, Roger (Sandy) and Jim; three grandchildren, Deborah (Brent) Kwiatek, Donna (Larry) Wilkins and Michael; one great-grandchild; as well as one sister and three brothers. Dad grew up on a homestead near Estevan, Saskatchewan where the family still ranches and farms, and served in the Canadian Air Force during WWII, where he learned the machinist's and toolmaker's trades. All his life Dad was a great builder and fixer of machinery of many kinds and loved nothing more than creating something useful from bits and pieces of what others would have considered junk. He carried that talent into construction, building his young family's first home in Calgary by hand from the ground up. After retiring he added electronics to the list and for a time the house was full of radios and televisions being brought back to life. Dad enjoyed old movies, dancing to big band and country music, and most recently, learning new things to do with his computer. He always looked forward to Friday evenings at the Legion and to visits with family. A very private and reserved personality, he was nonetheless liked and respected by everyone who knew him. His passing is a great loss to us all. We extend our most sincere gratitude to the paramedics, doctors and nurses at the Rockyview Hospital who did their best to keep him with us. Finally reunited with his loving wife Rita, predeceased 2006. Son of the late Alfred Lefrançois and of the late Rosa (Lauzon) Lefrançois. Loving father of Diane (Roland), Denise (Paul), Gerry (Micheline), Donna (Gus), Gary (Jane), and Linda (Robert). Sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his grandchildren Gidget, Gregg, Steven, Laura, Cheryl, Chantal, André, Renée, Ryan, Brandon, Darryl and Robert as well as his great-grandchildren Taylor, Kendrick, Charlie, Nicholas, Madeline, Nolan, Caleb, Kaitlyn and Jayden. Donat was a kind, sweet man with a gentle heart. He loved every aspect of working with wood, from bringing in firewood, cutting lumber, to building lovely pieces of furniture. He hit the road each summer in his RV and was looking forward to his every-other-year trip to visit Gary in B.C. Although Donat was going to be 81 in May, he didn't grow old; he just got sick. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and by his canine companion Sarah, the border collie. Thanks to Dr. Katsuno and the nursing staff at West Nipissing Hospital for their care and compassion. Dad was treated with dignity and respect by the entire staff. She was also a dedicated and loving caregiver to many children and enjoyed her time at the family cottage on Panuke Lake. Laulia loved to read and do word puzzles; she had a keen interest in the family history and loved to spend time with her grandchildren.
