FURNEAUX, Robert John "Bob" September 29, 1929 - March 1, 2009 Bob Furneaux passed away on Sunday, March 1, 2009 in his 80th year. He is survived by his loving wife of fifty-five years, Mary T. Furneaux (nee Reilly); seven children - sons, Robert C., David, Gordon, John, and Hugh, daughters, Catherine of Victoria, BC, and Maureen; and their immediate families which include five grandsons, five granddaughters, as well as one great-granddaughter. He is also survived by his sister Catherine Lough of Edmonton, AB. Bob was predeceased by his parents Naomi and Bertram, and a brother Dick in 1971, 1974 and 1989 respectively. Bob was born in Dauphin, MB, and spent his early years in Ste. Rose du Lac, MB. He started employment in 1946 with the Bank of Toronto (later Toronto Dominion) in Winnipeg, MB, and served at various points in Canada, including Winnipeg, MB, Kipling, SK, Bonnyville, AB, Calgary, AB, Edmonton, AB, Sarnia, ON, and Toronto, ON, until his return to Calgary in 1977 where he retired in 1986 after forty years of service. Many happy summers were spent at the family cottage at Gull Lake, Alberta and the family has many happy memories of those days. Mrs. Frances (Duce) Mary Dunlop August 7, 1924 - February 26, 2009 It is with great sadness that the family of Frances “Duce” Mary Dunlop age 84 announces her passing on Thursday, February 26, 2009 at Gables Lodge, Amherst, with her loving family by her side. Born on August 7, 1924 in Chignecto, NS, she was a daughter of the late John Sr. and Edwina (McLellan) Collins. In her younger years Frances played Hockey and won the Women's Nova Scotia Championship with the Canada Car Hurricanes. The team was inducted into the Amherst Sports Legends Category. She enjoyed curling, bowling and bingo. Frances was a huge fan of Wayne Gretzky and Russ Howard. She was known for her wonderful baking that she shared with her friends and family. Duce will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by her son, Robert (Janice) Collins of Maccan; six daughters, Darlene (Romeo) LeBlanc of Riverview, NB, Sylvia (John) Kempt of Nappan, Debbie (Bill) Rolfe of Maccan, Wanda (Larry) Fullerton of River Hebert, Theresa (Peter) Melanson of Maccan and Jeannie (Jamie) Brown of Maccan; her sister, Alice Dwyer of Maccan; twelve grandchildren, Tony, Nick, Jeff, Jamie, Monique, Patricia, Sherry, Robbie, Angie, Jackie, Tina and Justin; 17 great grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews. Mr. James Walter Delaney February 18, 1926 - February 27, 2009 83, Dartmouth. It is with great sadness that the family of James Walter Delaney announce his death which occurred in the Dartmouth General Hospital on the morning of Friday, February 27, 2009, at the age of 83. Jim was the son of the late Lucy (Gillis) and Walter Delaney. Jim was born in Halifax and graduated from St. Mary's University with a Bachelor of Commerce. He worked for the chartered accountant firm of Pierce, Evans , and Conrod, and later as an accountant for Karlsen Shipping. He was a very active member of St. Thomas More Church in Dartmouth, where he served on The St. Vincent DePaul Society, the Finance Committee, the Counsel of Catholic Men, and also sang in the church choir. In 1960, he became co-chair of The Maritime Fiddling Contest and worked tirelessly for decades promoting the event. Wherever there was a fiddling contest, Jim was there. He made friends easily and had many of them. He enjoyed all sports, especially hockey, and was Treasurer of the Halifax Junior Canadians during the years they played at the Halifax Forum. Jim was committed to a strict exercise routine that he enjoyed three times a week. Above all of these accomplishments he was most proud of the strong bond he shared with his family. Jim is survived by his loving wife of eight years, Bertha Romo Tully Delaney, Dartmouth; daughters, Mary Elizabeth Delaney, Bedford; Anne Marie (Scott) Brousseau, Dartmouth; Bernadette (Brent) Conrad, Waverly; and son, Brian (Tanya Carroll) Delaney, Halifax; and their mother, Janice Sears Delaney, Dartmouth; sister, Theresa (Raymond) Vermette, B.C.; grandchildren, Isabel Delaney, Hilary and Alana Brousseau; stepchildren, Gary (Donna) Tully, Carroll's Corner; Janice (Paul) Newman, Gays River; Jo-Ann (Dereck) Horne, Carroll's Corner; stepgrandchildren, Kyle, Megan, and Amber Tully, Sarah, Brandi, and Chelsea Newman. Harold Bernard Luross August 19, 1916 - February 25, 2009 Harold Bernard Luross August 19, 1916 – February 25, 2009 Harold Luross passed away suddenly on Wednesday, February 25th, 2009. Born in Fort Qu’Appelle, SK, he attended school in Semans, Viking and Indian Head. During his high school years he apprenticed at the local drugstore. He then farmed in the Atwater area for 5 years before joining the RCMP in 1940. Postings included Virden (where he met his future wife Dorothy Timms), Brandon, Winnipeg and Beausejour. In 1960, he received his commission in Winnipeg and then transferred to Edmonton, North Battleford, Peace River, and back to Edmonton. In 1975, Harold finished his 35 year career in Winnipeg as Chief Superintendent. He is lovingly remembered by his wife Dorothy of 62 years; children Bob (Dan & Carmen & great-grandson Koven), Anne (Erin & Allan, Joel), John & wife Nancy (Jessica & fiancé Shayne Dueck, Sarah, Tamara and Christina). In his leisure time he enjoyed extensive travelling, gardening, hunting & fishing. Over the years he was involved with Rotary, Masonic Lodge and the Shrine Club. As all 3 children reside in Saskatoon, Harold & Dorothy sold their home of 33 years in Winnipeg and moved to Saskatoon to be close to their family. His family meant everything and was always a priority to Harold. He especially enjoyed the many family get-togethers – usually over a meal. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, March 4th, 2009 at 2:30 p.m. at Hillcrest Funeral Home (East on 8th Street, turn right before rail crossing). WILCOX, Frances Enid (nee Havard) January 21, 1924 - February 28, 2009 The Wilcox family sadly announces the peaceful passing of our dear mother Frances Enid Wilcox (nee Havard). Enid, who was born in Altamont, MB, passed away peacefully on Saturday afternoon after a lengthy illness at the age of 85 years. Mom graduated Normal School and began a teaching career in Holmfield, MB in 1947. Shortly after the start of her teaching career she was courted by a young Minister who proved his devotion by making the ten-mile trip each way on a bicycle to see her. Mom and Dad were married on August 24, 1948 at All Saints Church in Winnipeg. The officiating minister was their life-long friend Reverend Canon John Bethel, the man who introduced them. Once married, she joined Dad in his ministry at Christ Church in Melita, MB. This began a partnership lasting over fifty-nine years and five Parishes, which in the words of their dear friend Reverend Canon John Flagler, was enriched by the love, talent and professionalism that Mom brought to the marriage. Dad believed his greatest accomplishment was his marriage to Mom. Those who knew her quickly realized that her greatest accomplishment was that she made Dad look good. Furthermore, numerous clergy and congregations throughout Canada benefited by Mom's creative skills and sewing ability as a liturgical seamstress. Many others will remember her for her lifetime involvement in the Anglican Church Women, her piano playing and her passion for painting. Mom will be truly missed by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren - son Sydney (Holly) and their children, Carole (Brad), and Andrew; son David (Geraldine) and their children, Shauna, Mark and Dan; son John (Mary-Lynn) and their children, Beth, Sarah and James; daughter Cyndi Moynaugh (D'Arcy) and their daughter, Kaelyn; as well as the great-grandchildren, Chloe, Linden, Hailey, and Brayden. MERTENS, Agnes - On Sunday March 1, 2009, in her 76th year. After a year-long battle with scleroderma, mom is finally free from the pain. She is re-united with her beloved husband Otto (March 2001). Born in Herdorf, Germany, mom settled in Canada in 1954 and has lived in Beamsville since 1959. Mr. Allan Paproski - February 22, 2009 - PAPROSKI, ALLAN God saw he was getting tired and a cure was not to be so he wrapped him in his loving arms and whispered “Come with me”. On February 22, 2009, Allan Edward Paproski of Edmonton, AB passed away at the age of 58 years. After a brief career with CN Rail, Allan joined the Edmonton Police Services in 1976. Shortly thereafter he met his wife Maria and they had two children. Allan retired from the EPS after dedicating 25 years of service. In his retirement Allan enjoyed doing house reno’s, helping family and spending time with Q and Sugar-dog. He leaves to mourn his loving wife of 31 years Maria, daughter Janice and son Curtis, his mother Ruth Jamison, brothers; Barry (Sherry), Bruce (Lucie), Howard (Brenda), sisters; Eloise (Terry) Kolach, Maureen Paproski, Cheryl (Paul) Cote and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his father Edmund and maternal and paternal grandparents. A mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at St. John Bosco Church, 13503-40 Street. Mrs. Gwendolyn Pauline Comeau June 21, 1924 - February 22, 2009 COMEAU, Gwendolyn Pauline 84, of Mineville/Lake Echo, passed away on February 22, 2009, at home, surrounded by family. Gwen was born in Kentville to William T. and Harriett (Aalders) Blair. Gwen's most cherished roles were as wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Many friends benefited from her caring nature. She was always involved in her community and will be fondly remembered as Mrs. "C". Gwen gave selflessly to her church and will be greatly missed in the Parish of Seaforth, having been very active at Anglican Church of St. Augustine in Lake Echo. Gwen was a keen traveler having taken many trips with her beloved Rene. After raising her family, Gwen worked for 24 years with Zellers in Dartmouth, retiring in 1989. Gwen is survived by son, Ronald (Sharon), Mineville; daughter, Diane (late Arthur Taylor), Dartmouth; grandsons, Troy (Joanne) and Marc, Dartmouth, and cherished great-grandchildren, Alexandria and Noah. Besides her parents, Gwen was predeceased by Rene, her husband of 50 years, and her brother, Lloyd. She is survived by daughter Vivian Cooper (Ron MacKenzie), who both cared for Rose up until the time of her death, as well as Lorraine Perry whom she raised as if she were her own daughter; granddaughter, Cindy (Richard) Elliott; stepgrandchildren, Patsy Motz and Jimmy Perry; great-grandsons, Patrick (Shylowe) and Zachary Elliott; brother, Peter (Mary) Poirier. She was predeceased by her husband, Henry Perry; son-in-law, Raymond Cooper; stepson, Henry R. Perry, as well as 15 brothers and sisters. Mr James Edmund Gillespie May 15, 1926 - February 23, 2009 James Edmund Gillespie The passing of Mr. James “Jim” Edmund Gillespie, age 82 years, occurred Monday, February 23rd, 2009 at St. Paul’s Hospital, Saskatoon, Sask. He is survived by his wife Anna Gillespie; and by daughter Patricia (Todd) Laberge and their son Garret; son Stuart (Peggy) their daughters Rachel, Rebekah, Jacqueline, and grandson Dominic, son Gregory (Beverly) their son Michael and daughter Michelle (Ole Jessen). Mother of Kenneth (Bridget) of Winnipeg, Larry (Janet) of Tecumseh and Dale Leschuk (Oiva) of Thunder Bay and step-mother of Tracy Delmo (Janice) of Brampton. Sister of Victor (Betty) Weliki and Helen (Mike-2007) Spendick of Toronto. Grandmother of Kimberly and Melissa Leschuk, Dylan Delmo and Kevin Koski. Sophie is also survived by numerous friends and relatives. Sophie worked at T-Kay, Dresswells and Grandview Lodge. She enjoyed crafts, rock hunting, traveling and especially winning at the casino.
