Jean-François Demers 1968 - 2009 À la résidence du Pavillon Bellevue et à la suite d'une longue maladie, le 16 janvier 2009, Jean-François nous a quittés. Entouré de sa famille, entouré du personnel de la résidence, Jean-François a livré un dur combat dans cette terrible maladie. Il a su démontrer un courage et une abnégation exemplaires. Son amour et sa bonté devant cette épreuve ont apporté bien de la sérénité à tous ceux qui l'ont connu et qui l'ont accompagné durant cette période de vie. GRANGER, Doreen Vernice - February 7, 1927 - January 16, 2009 - In Loving Memory of Doreen Granger, a resident of Tehkummah and formerly of Espanola and Gordon Township, died at the Mindemoya Hospital on Friday, January 19, 2009. Doreen was born at Perivale, daughter of the late Norman and Catherine (McAllister) Lewis. She had worked at a variety of jobs in her lifetime, including the turkey plant and the telephone office in Gore Bay as well as a sales clerk in Espanola and at various tourist camps. Doreen loved to bake, enjoyed cooking, quilting and feeding the birds. She also enjoyed visiting with friends and relatives. Doreen is survived by her beloved husband George Granger of Tehkummah, loved and loving mother of Ted and his wife Irene of Espanola, Betty and husband Eric Russell of Tehkummah, Janis and husband Charles Totman of McKerrow and Cathy and husband Perry Bouwmeester of Massey. BYRNES, ARTHUR EDWARD TED - Passed away at the Belleville General Hospital after a short courageous battle with liver disease. Loving husband of Shirley (Littler). Ted will be sadly missed by oldest daughter Penny Byrnes-Lamer (Rick) and grandchildren Kade Walsh, Leighton, Tannen and Warner Fritz-Lamer of Napanee. Sadly missed also by youngest daughter Tammy Meulenaar and grandchildren Grayden Meulenaar and Cameron Wilson. OBITUARY BRUNO GASPARINI Passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family after a long and courageous battle with cancer. His strength and resolve to fight were a source of inspiration to those around him. Predeceased by his wife, Adele Onesi. Dear companion of Rolande Peloquin. Loving father of Ricardo (Debrah), Claudia (John) and Roberto (Carla). Cherished grandfather to Alexandra and Andriana. He is survived by his sisters Tomassina (Nello) and Sandra, brother Celso, sister-in-law Gina (Mike) and many nieces and nephews. We are most grateful to Rolande for her compassion and care during dad's illness. He was a devoted father, family man and a friend to many. A carpenter by trade, he later became a successful home builder in the West End. His strong sense of community led him to coach competitive soccer in N.D.G. for twenty years. An avid sports fan, he derived great pleasure from watching his granddaughters play soccer and hockey. He will be forever loved and forever remembered. Visitation will take place at: on Saturday, January 17 from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday, January 18 from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral service to be held Monday, January 19, at St. Ignatius of Loyola Church at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated. OBITUARY MARY JOAN MacMILLAN Died January 2, 2009 in her ninetieth year after a long illness. Joan was born in Quebec City to Mary (MacFarlane) and William MacMillan. She was educated at Commissioners' High School in Quebec and graduated in Physical Education from the Margaret Eaton School in Toronto. She was an officer in the Women's Division of the RCAF. Then, while teaching in the Westmount and Montreal West Protestant School systems she continued her education at McGill and won her Masters at Harvard. An avid skier, swimmer and traveler she lived many happy years in the Laurentians. BARNA, Eva (nee Kaposi). November 12, 1920 - January 14, 2009. The family of Eva Barna is very sad to announce her passing at the Royal Victoria Hospital of heart failure. Born in Debrecen, Hungary, she immigrated to Canada in 1957 following the Hungarian Revolution with her beloved husband George Barna. She worked primarily as a bookkeeper and assisted the Barna brothers, George and Zoli in their furniture store on St. Lawrence Blvd. Predeceased by her husband in 1980, she will be greatly missed by her friends and family around the world; her son Gabriel and his wife Betty, grandson Andrew and his wife Elisabeth, great-grandchildren Sam, Ethan and Adrienne Xu Mei, niece Ildiko Dawson and her husband Richard, nephew Laszlo Barna and his wife Laura Alper, grandniece Miriam Barna, grandnephew Christopher Davies and his wife Courtney; and in Hungary, second cousin Laci Hegedus. She was the record keeper for the family, always remembering every date of importance. An intrepid, physically and mentally active lady all her life, she enjoyed reading, travel, bridge and volunteer work. She was tremendously dignified, a vibrant and caring lady who will be greatly missed by all who knew her. PRYDE, William Donald Son, father and friend, departed us peacefully at home with family sharing his passing on January 14, 2009. Son to Robert and Ellen Pryde, our father was born in Hillcrest Alberta, December 1, 1933 and not "behind the couch in Chicago before the fire". Bill, a hard working, dedicated family man was preceded in 2001 by his everlasting love and best friend, Patricia Anne Pryde - our mother. Elle était la fille de feu René Lafleur et de feu Blanche Bazinet et l'épouse bien-aimée de Michel Côté. Outre son époux, elle laisse dans le deuil ses filles: Joanne (Daniel), Nicole (Jules) et Lise (Dominic); ses petits-enfants: Serge, Mélanie, Chantal, Véronique, Jean-Philippe, Mathieu et Valérie; son arrière-petit-fils Félix; ses frères et soeurs: Richard, Jean-Guy, Aline et Irène ainsi que plusieurs beaux-frères, belles-soeurs; neveux, nièces et ami(e)s. Elle fut prédécédée par son fils Robert et par sa soeur Darquise. Un service religieux, en présence des cendres, sera célébré le mardi 20 janvier 2009 à 11h en l'église Notre-Dame-du-Très-St-Rosaire, 5 rue St-Arthur, Gatineau. GAMSBY, Ronald. 1929-2009. After a short battle with cancer, Ronald peacefully passed away on January 15, 2009. Cherished husband of late Kathleen, devoted father of Christine (Marcel) and Dan (Maureen), loved grandfather to Cynthia and Collin. Brother-in-law to Ann (late John), Margaret (late Billy), late Thomas (late Mary) and late Rosleen (late Ronald). He will also be missed by many relatives and friends. Through Ron's effort, the executive council of the Royal Legion now includes a considerable annual donation to the West Island Palliative Care Residence. SUGA, Masako (nee Yamasaki). Masako passed away peacefully at age ninety-three at her home at the Momiji Seniors Residence in Scarborough, Ontario on January 15, 2009. Masako, a proud Canadian, was born in Haney, B.C., on May 5, 1915 and was interned in Lemon Creek, B.C. After W.W.II, she moved to Montreal, Q.C. where she worked and lived until she moved to the Momiji at age eighty-six. Masako was an Ikebana instructor and enjoyed crafts, having patate frites and travelling to Florida and Hawaii to escape the cold winters. Masako was predeceased by her husband, Ty Suga, of Asahi Baseball fame, and her brothers Takashi, Felix, Hidee, and Tokuichi Yamasaki. She is survived by her brothers Peter and George Yamasaki and her sisters Hisako (Oana) and Mary (Shintani). Masako is survived by her son Haruji (Irene) Suga of Calgary, Alberta, and her daughter Lorraine (Frank) Tomita of Cornwall, Ontario and her grandson Dr. Todd (Suzanne) Tomita and grand daughters Trina (Bill) Landry and Lynn (Ian) Kerr. She is also survived by her seven great-grandchildren. Masako appreciated the care and support provided by the staff of the Momiji Seniors Residence. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to a charity of your choice.
