DELL, Mrs. Mildred Dell - Mildred Dell (Jolliffe) died peacefully, surrounded by her family, at Rapelje Lodge in Welland on January 17, 2009. She was 91 years of age. Dear wife of Robert E. Dell (deceased) and mother of Cathy Rollo and John Rollo of Vineland, Sister to Leroy & Stan Jolliffe (both deceased). She leaves 2 grandchildren, Dawn Bruce (Ian) and Del Rollo (Lisa). She was loved by her 5 great grandchildren, Aiden & Dannyn Bruce and Connor, Sean & Walker Rollo, sadly missed by sister-in-law Jean (Dell) Matheson of Aylmer, Ontario. Mildred was a life-long member of the Rebekah Lodge, an avid bridge player and friend to many. Cremation has taken place and her remains will be interred in the family plot in Aylmer, Ontario Cemetery. Memorial service will be held at Pelham Community Church, Canboro Road, Fenwick on January 24th, 2009. BROCHU, Jeanne D'Arc (Boissoneault) - The family of Jeanne D'Arc Brochu sadly announces her passing at the Welland General Hospital on Friday January 16th at the age of 84. Beloved wife of the late Paul Emile Brochu, loving mother of Normand (Céline), Raymond (Colette), Denise Brochu (Louis Pierre Foisy), Carmelle Bergeron (Arthur), Lise Bradley (Lucien), Carolle Wright (Tom) and Suzanne Bolduc (Daniel), dear sister of Paul Boissoneault (Simone) and Cécile Roy (Arthur). Mrs Brochu will be sadly missed by her 13 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. She was pre- deceased by her sisters Rita and Alice and brother Roland. Jeanne D'Arc was a member of the Club d'artisanat. MCGINN, Marion Patricia (nee Way) - Born September 2, 1924 crossed over at the age of 84 years to be re-united with her beloved husband Stanley Howard McGinn who predeceased her in July 1981. Marion was the loving daughter of Napolean and Mary Way, both predeceased. Marion had eight (8) children who loved and adored her, Joanne Degabrielle of Bolton; Brenda Trulsen of Belleville; Garth McGinn (wife Jean) of Kleefeld, Manitoba; Sean McGinn (wife Karen Beauchman) of Lethbridge, Alberta; Shelley Proulx (husband Remi) of Denver, Colorado; Owen McGinn (wife Marie Anne) and Beverley McGinn of Sudbury and Brian (predeceased). Marion was the grandmother of Aaron (predeceased), Connie, Jennie, Peter, Wally, Carrie, Caitlain, Christianne, Caleb, Alanha, Erica, Natalie, Emlie, Josianne, Chantel, Jean, Logan, Sheldon and Tasha. Marion was also great grandmother to Amy, Emily, Bradley, Tyler, Amber, Ethen, Tristan, Taylor and Mylie. Marion is survived by one brother Terry and one sister Marjorie and is predeceased by 7 brothers and sisters. Marion was a life long member of Our Lady of Peace Church and a dedicated member of that parish's CWL. Although Marion's family was the most important aspect of her life and she was always busy ensuring that everyone felt loved and cared for she also enjoyed crocheting, knitting, sewing and doing art work. LEEFERINK, Adriana Cornelia (Jeanne) (previously Jeanne van Es, nee Eijsermans) December 19, 1927 - January 15, 2009 After a long and healthy life, Jeanne went to be with her beloved Chris on Thursday, January 15, 2009 at the age of 81 years. Jeanne was born in Bergen op Zoom, Netherlands and immigrated to Canada in 1952. She was active in the Red Cross for many years. Many will remember her through the City of Calgary swim programs. Jeanne will be sadly missed by her many friends in Calgary, Palm Springs and Holland, her golf and hiking buddies, and especially her family. She was predeceased by her husband Chris; her parents; and her brother Gerard in Holland. Jeanne's vibrant and caring personality will be remembered by all who knew her. ELVISH, Eleanor 2009-01-19 September 19th, 1923 ~ January 16th. 2009 The Lord is My Shepherd: I shall not want ~ Psalm 23:1 It is with aching hearts and deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, nana, great-nana, auntie, sister and friend Eleanor Elvish (nee Hogan). In her 85th year she left us quietly with her family by her side at St. Joseph‘s Hospice after a lengthy illness with Kidney disease. Mom‘s unwavering faith and love of family sustained her throughout her illness. Her smile would light up the room, even during her most difficult days. Mom was born on September 19th, 1923 to Thomas and Loretta Hogan (nee Mercil). She was raised in a loving home with her 8 brothers and 2 sisters. At 17 she went to work at CanCar and this is where she met her future husband John. They married on February 15th, 1945 and together they raise their 5 children. Mom worked for several years at Chapples Department store as a cosmetician, retiring in 1982 when the store closed. Mom was a long time member of St. Patrick‘s Cathedral. Her faith and her family were the two most important things in her life. During her lifetime, she enjoyed reading, music, swimming, dancing, family card nights and bingo. Mom loved travelling, especially her casino trips with family and friends. Mom also loved her many trips to her daughters cottage at Lester Beach and in more recent years the time spent at camp at Mark‘s Lake. Eleanor will be loving remembered by her son Tom (Sharon), daughters Gayle (Tom) Vondrasek, Lynda Vibert (Walter Kocuba), Val (Phil) Matthes and Loretta (Kevin) Elvish-Kivisto, her grandchildren Darren Vondrasek, Thomas (Cassandra) Elvish, Michael Elvish, David Elvish, Jennifer Elvish, Jonathan (Holly) Vibert, Andrew Matthes, Emily Matthes, Sheena (Ryan) Wheeler, Raymond Kivisto, her 2 great-grandchildren Cassandra Smeall- Matthes and Austin Wheeler, her brothers Robert, Bernard (Margaret), Frank (Gladys, Michael (Diane), Harvey (Elsie), Patrick (Stella), her sisters-in-law Marie Elvish, Chrissie Elvish, Sylvia Hogan, Helen Hogan and Margaret Mary George. SHANDLER, Chantaal Chantaal Shandler (nee Gisele Gorieu) passed away peacefully on January 16, 2009 at the age of 57 after a courageous battle with cancer. She has begun a new journey, one that will begin with an embrace of her beloved father Marcel Gorieu. Her family and friends will mourn her premature passing, all the while understanding that the light she shed in her time will illuminate our lives eternally. Chantaal was the embodiment of devotion, courage, compassion, resilience and persistence. She was a fantastic speaker, story teller, and advisor who was never at a loss for words, except maybe when breaking out in song. She kept singing anyway. Chantaal had a unique flair for the creative and could embellish any room or outfit with a flick of the finger, leaving her light on the spaces and faces of so many. She devoted herself to single motherhood and stubbornly brushed aside the accompanying hardships. Her skillful PR and professionalism served her well in various employments in Saskatoon with the Public School Board, and in Calgary at Mount Royal College and the Government of Canada Passport Office. She did well financially but lived humbly to provide finer things and education funds for her children, Rob and Ronaye, and her three grandchildren, Avery, Jordan, and Payten, who she loved dearly. Through her practice, she preached education and hard work which will echo through future generations. In her honor, her family and friends will assuredly continue to approach life with open minds, open hearts, and open arms. She is survived by her loving mother Denise Gorieu; brothers, Raymond (Simone) Gorieu and Mike (Elaine) Gorieu; sisters, Gillean Shandler, Anita (Bob) Gamwell and many nieces and nephews. The family gratefully declines flowers. Mr. Jean Champagne September 18, 1937 - January 11, 2009 JEAN (JOHN) ARTHUR JOSEPH IVES BEAUGRAND-DIT-CHAMPAGNE Passed peacefully with his loving wife of 17 years, Claudean, by his side at their home in Lafayette, Colorado on January 11, 2009, at the age of 71. Born in St. Norbert, Manitoba September 18, 1937, he graduated from St. Norbert College. Jean worked for the Hudson’s Bay Company and served in the Canadian Navy as a Mechanical Engineer. He had a long career in bicycle manufacturing in Canada before moving onto other business ventures in Arizona and Colorado. Since retiring he spent time golfing, on creative hobbies like stained glass, and as a volunteer at the Boulder Shelter for the Homeless, where he put his handyman skills to use. Jean had a deep affinity for the natural world and loved being outdoors camping and hiking, and traveling to new places. He always stopped to look at the birds, and appreciated getting up every morning to the view of the mountains from his kitchen window. John was a loving father to his children Cheryl (Dana), Holly (Bob) and Richard (Veronica) from the Greater Toronto Area, and Claudean’s children, Elaine (Mark), Sheila, Alicia (Michael), from the state of Illinois, who will all miss him dearly. His seven grandsons and one great-granddaughter will greatly miss his playfulness and encouragement. He is predeceased by his father Raphaël and his mother Dorilla, as well as his siblings Hervé, Marius, Thérèse and Cécile. He leaves his siblings Alcide (Isabelle), Louis (Simone), David, Jules, André (Claudette) Hélène (Roger), Paul (Laurette) and Juliette (Brian), who will miss his visits. There are also many nieces and nephews who cherish the memory of Uncle Johnny and what he brought to their life. He was a mentor to many, and his absence will be felt by friends and neighbours. A celebration of Jean’s life will be held on Wednesday, January 21st at 11:00 a.m. at the Desjardins Funeral Chapel, 357 rue Des Meurons, Winnipeg, Manitoba. DEMPSTER, Kathleen (Edgar) 1924- 2009 - It is with heavy hearts we announce our mother, Kay, passed away in the presence of her lord on January 16th, 2009 to join her beloved husband, Ernie in Heaven. A kind, gentle and loving mother, she leaves Lorrie, Elizebeth (Gerard), Ernie (Debbie) and Janet (David) to mourn her passing. She is lovingly remembered by grandchildren, Cameron, Jeremy, Kori, Ryan, Allison, Benjamin, Michelle, Taylor and Caleb, her four great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Mom was the youngest of a close knit family of nine children having been predeceased by all her brothers and sisters, they are all there waiting for her. Until dementia crept into her life, our mother was an active member of her community in West St. Catharines, volunteering on school committees, canvassing for charity, and supporting her political party, the PC's. She tirelessly volunteered for her church, West St. Andrews Presbyterian, where she was famous for her tea sandwiches, and her aprons. To supplement the household income mom created the most beautiful wedding cakes. She was a creative and innovative woman. Mom was fun-loving and we shared many laughter filled nights around the kitchen table. Mom was always there for her family, she was a wonderful wife who our father adored, she was a strong, amazing mother, she was our best friend, and a wonderful grandmother. We will miss her laugh, her smile and her love. We would like to thank her team of angels on earth, the RN's, the PSW's, and support staff at Millenium Trail Manor. The respect, care, kindness, attention and love she received during her 4 year stay at the home went above and beyond. We will be eternally grateful to her family at the home. Bob Mack, Calgary The death occurred recently of Bob Mack of Calgary, loving husband of Judy (Buchanan). As was his wish, Bob was able to spend his final days at home with the loving support and nursing care of Judy. Bob was a much-loved member of the Mack and Buchanan families. He is sadly missed by his brother, Jae, and his Aunt Mattie in Tennessee; his sisters, Dianne and Cheryl in Texas; his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Janet, Donna, Debbie, Leonard and Alan on P.E.I., and Caroline in B.C.; as well as his many nieces and nephews who adored their "Cool Uncle Bob."
