SHARP, David Bruce 1956 - 2009 After a courageous battle with cancer, in his 53rd year, Dave passed away with his family at his side. He leaves his beloved wife Beth (Sunde), loved step-daughter Lisa (Ortlieb), his mother Betty Sharp, brother Ian Sharp of Sooke, B.C., and brother Tim Sharp of Seattle, WA. He also leaves behind his mother-in-law Olive, many brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. Dave was born and raised in Lachine, Que. His interests were many and varied. He experienced everything he could including being part of a luge team in N.Y. state, kayaking, canoeing, camping, hang gliding, running, and even up until the end of September, he was cycling an hour and a half to work and back each day. To balance his career in computer programming, his main hobby was woodworking. Over the years he created many wonderful pieces including furniture and bird houses. His talent is evident all around their home where he would work on renovations in his spare time. He achieved a BSC in computer programming and an MSC in engineering and was working on his PHD when he passed away. Throughout his illness he showed tremendous grace and courage and was a wonderful example to all. Dean was born on December 4, 1963 and lived his life on the Siksika Nation amongst his family and many friends. RAE, Gladys Alice (nee MacFarlane) September 11, 1917 - January 9, 2009 Gladys Alice Rae (nee MacFarlane) passed away peacefully on January 9, 2009 at the age of 91 years. Glad was born on September 11, 1917 in Nokomis, Saskatchewan. She served in the RCAF during WWII and subsequently taught school in rural Saskatchewan. She met and married the love of her life, Jim, in 1947 and they spent fifty full and wonderful years together in Manitoba, British Columbia, Quebec and Calgary, raising four children amongst the hardships of a military environment. She experienced the world in a way that was not available to many others of her generation. Her life was devoted to her family. She was a loving mother to Don (Sally), Doug, Dave (Donna) and Deb (Don); grandmother to Jim (Emma), Rob (Jolanda), Susan (Richard), Jagger, Chris, Dan, Jenna and Kaitlin; and great-grandmother to Lukas, Bodie, Anders, Easton, Taylor and Allison. She is survived by her sister Hazel MacFarlane. The world would have far fewer problems were all of us able to devote our lives to our families the way Glad did. She was predeceased by her husband Jim in 1997. McMURRAY, Wade Anthony - May 1, 1970 - January 8, 2009. After an accident on Tuesday Wade passed away at the General Hospital in Sudbury on Thursday at the age of 38. Beloved husband of Darlene Moore. Special Dad of Cassandra, Jordan, Megan and Brianna. Only son of parents Art & Margaret McMurray. Loving brother of Candice & friend Geoff Gordon. Remembered by mother-in-law Gladys Moore (friend Lorne) predeceased by Albert Moore. Predeceased by grandparents John & Lillian MacDougall, William & Katie McMurray, Neil & Annie Bryant, Wilbert & Ollie Moore. Will be missed by his many Aunts, Uncles, cousins & friends. Wade loved spending time and doing things with his kids, playing X Box, four wheeling and ski doo riding. He enjoyed working at the grocery store & bottle return in Manitowaning; reconnecting with old school friends and others that he had lost touch with while he was away. Wade didn't like staying home, he was always ready to leave to accompany family on any appointments or outings. Wade enjoyed the outdoors, going hunting and fishing. QUAST, Lillian - 1917 - 2009 - Peacefully at Extendicare. Lillian left to join her husband Walter on Saturday January 10, 2009. Her children Gail (Sheppard), Gary (Maureen) and Heather wish her well. She will be missed by her four grandsons Ryan, Shane, Shawn and Jason as well as her great-grandchildren Kayla, Wyatt, Jersey, Alissa, Meghan and Quinton. She was predeceased by her parents Emma and Joseph MacIntyre, her sisters Loretta and Gladys and her brother Lloyd. She also leaves behind her brother Mancel (Dorothy), her sister-in-law Ester and her brother-in-law Wesley and numerous nieces and nephews. She was an active member of Gold Nugget Rebekah Lodge #173 and held all the offices ending with Past Noble Grand in her 50 years of participation. She especially loved the cottage, her flowers, drinking coffee on the deck overlooking the lake, her books and handwork. She leaves us with many wonderful memories of her patience, kindness and willingness to give help where and when needed. The family would like to thank Dr. Vaithilingam, the nursing staff on B-Wing of Extendicare for the compassion and exceptional care shown to our mother. Corinne Richard 1927-2009 A sa résidence de Shédiac, suite d'une longue maladie, le lundi 12 janvier 2009, à l'âge de 81 ans, est décédée entourée de sa famille, Corinne Richard, épouse de feu Adrice Richard. Née le 26 avril 1927 à Haute-Aboujagane, elle était fille de feu Raymond et Émilie (Cormier) Ouellette. Corinne a travaillée à la boulangerie de Shédiac avant sa retraite. Elle manquera beaucoup à ses sept enfants: Georgette Arsenault, Suzanne Gallant (Antoine) et Jean-Guy de Shédiac, Nicole Richard (Noëlla LeBlanc) de Grand-Barachois, Doris Boudreau (Louis) du chemin d'Ohio, Janice Richard (Louis-Michel Léger) et Michel (Huguette) de Grande-Digue; à ses deux soeurs: Hélèna Gallant et Lorraine Boudreau (Laurie) de Shédiac; à ses neuf petits-enfants: Janelle, Serge, Daniel, Mario, David, Christien, Gaëtan, Jeanot et Marco; à ses trois arrières-petits-enfants; Julie, Samuelle et Sébastien; ainsi qu'à plusieurs nièces et neveux. Les funérailles auront lieu en l'église Saint-Joseph de Shédiac, le jeudi 15 janvier 2008, à 10h30. L'inhumation se fera au cimetière paroissial au printemps. Heures de visites: le mercredi 14 janvier, de 14h à 16h et 19h à 21h seulement. Il n'y aura pas de visites au salon jeudi matin avant les funérailles. 1946-2009 Sharon "Lee" Hackett, formerly Lee Trevors, of Snowball Street, Miramichi, who passed away at her residence, on Tuesday afternoon, January 6, 2009, at the age of 62, following a brief illness. Born in Chatham, on April 20, 1946, she was the daughter of the late Carmen L. and Helen (Brown) Trevors. She was a homemaker and an adherent of St. Marys Anglican Church, Miramichi. She is survived by one daughter, Jennifer Crook (Yvon Cormier), of Miramichi; two sons, Jeffrey Hackett, of Victoria, B.C. and Jason Hackett, of Miramichi; two sisters, Glenna Sorel (Guy) and Connie Saunders (Don), all of Miramichi; two brothers, John Trevors and Rick Trevors (Pauline), all of Miramichi; two grandchildren, Joshua and Carmen; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents. Visitation was at the funeral home on Thursday evening. The funeral service was held from St. Marys Anglican Church, Miramichi, on Friday, January 9, 2009, conducted by Rev. Gordon Thompson, assisted by Derek Carnahan. Music for the service was provided by Mrs. Janet Stothart and the hymns were "On Eagles Wings", "Guide Me O Thou Great Jehovah" and the recessional hymn was "Mine Eyes Have Seen The Glory". A special musical selection was played from a CD by Garth Brooks, "The River". Several selections were also played on the bagpipes by Louis Galiah. The honorary pallbearers were Colleen Gorman, Kay Stark, Joyce Fitzpatrick, Anna Goski, Earl Goski, Caroline Duffy, Thomas Fitzpatrick, Marion Fitzpatrick, Wesley Clark, Eddie Gorman. SHAPIRO, Rose May 6, 1911 - January 10, 2009 Our dearest mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away on Saturday, January 10, 2009 at the wonderful age of 97 years. She leaves to mourn, her daughters, Lynn Einstein (Lionel Groberman), Ruth Shapiro and son Harvey Shapiro (Nilda). She also leaves her grandchildren, David Eric Goldman (Miriam), Michael Goldman (Bari), David Martin Goldman (Joelle), Jodi Cohen, Marilyn Oshry (Ron), Laura Cohen (Leanne), Jennifer Bogartz (Alex), and Ronnie and Aaron Shapiro. She was blessed with five precious great-grandchildren, Jake and Nathan Goldman, Sara Oshry, and Ellie and Izzi Cohen-Labelle. She also leaves her dear brother and sister-in-law, Nip and Essie Olyan from Edmonton and many loving nieces and nephews. Rose was predeceased by her beloved husband, Joseph Shapiro in March 1997 and her beloved parents, Harry and Betty Olyan, her sister Sara Shur, sister Adelle and brother Hyman Olyan. Rose was born in New York City in May 1911. Her family moved to Chipman and then Vegreville, Alberta where she spent her childhood. She briefly attended the University of British Columbia and worked in Vancouver but on a trip through Calgary in 1933 she was swept off her feet by our father Joe, was engaged in three days and married for sixty-three years. Calgary became her home for the rest of her life. Rose was a loving mother, superb cook, active volunteer in Hadassah and other organizations. She had many dear friends and was a devoted part of the large Shapiro Clan. Rose was a voracious reader and through her reading she travelled the world learned about other cultures and countries and kept pace with the changing times. Her grandchildren found her "cool" and turned to her often for her loving advice and opinion. Rosie, as she was called by the many people who loved her dearly was a loving, wise, thoughtful, generous and very caring woman. She had great insight, wisdom and judgement and was a source of guidance and inspiration to us all. In her quiet but very observant way she watched over us all. Her passing is a huge void in our lives. Toward the end of her life when she needed more support we were blessed to have Jean Wilgus, Wennie Fallorin, Bessie Pelagio and Candy Baysa enter her life and provide her with loving care and companionship. We offer them our heartfelt thanks and also sincerely thank the care givers and nursing staff at the Renoir Retirement Home. We would like to thank Dr. Herget who took good care of Mom for many years. As her great-grandson Jake said, "It isn't fair, GG should have lived to be 100 and gotten a letter from the Queen," as her great-granddaughter Sara said, "GG was supposed to live forever," we agree with both of them but are very grateful for the many years we had with our mother and grandmother. She died with the same quiet dignity that she had throughout her life. Peter lived in Calgary during some of his school years and most recently resided in Hamilton until his passing. He retired from the R.C.M.P. after twenty-five years, then taught at Seneca College in King City, Ont., for eighteen years. KILGOUR, Mary (nee Gallivan) - Mary passed away peacefully at the North Bay General Hospital on January 10, 2009 at the age of 85. She was predeceased in 2007 by her loving husband of forty-eight years, Gord Kilgour of North Bay. Mary will be greatly missed by her sons Alex and Ian, her daughters-in-law Lynette Johnson and Carolyn Morland, her grandchildren Sam and Ali, her sister-in-law Pat Gallivan and neices and nephews Mary-Pat, Danny, Maureen and Kevin. Mary was predeceased by her parents, John E. and Gertrude Gallivan (nee Eady) and her brother, Jack Gallivan. Born and raised in Petrolia, Ontario, Mary led a full and active life. During World War II, she trained as a registered nurse at St. Joseph's Hospital in London, Ontario and in the following years pursued her vocation in Vancouver and Montreal. She and Gord met in Montreal and married in 1959. They started their family in Ottawa and moved to North Bay in 1970. In North Bay, Mary continued to pursue her career and further her education: in 1972, she took a position with Algonquin College teaching mental health nursing where her expertise was honoured when she was awarded the designation of Master Teacher; and in 1980, Mary completed her Bachelor of Arts degree at Nipissing University majoring in English and Psychology. Mary retired from teaching in 1988 spending her time volunteering, reading, travelling and relaxing at the cottage on the French River. Mary was an active member of the Herbert A. Bruce Chapter of the IODE and served as Regent in 1991 and 1992. The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the caring nurses of 3E and 4W and the doctors at the North Bay General Hospital and to Linda from the CCAC. Friends may call at the MARTYN FUNERAL HOME (across from City Hall) on Thursday from 2 pm to 4 pm and 7 pm and 9 pm. The funeral service will be held in the chapel at 11 am on Friday. PICKARD, Robert (Bob) “Pic” - Suddenly at his residence on Friday, January 9, 2009, in his 62nd year. Bob Pickard of Cambridge, loving husband of the late Barb (2006) and predeceased by his parents, Russ and Joyce (Crockett) Pickard. Beloved soul mate of Brenda Judge and her son Stephen. MacDONALD, Hector Douglas - On Thursday January 8th, 2009, Hector Douglas MacDonald, age 73, passed away peacefully at the North Bay General Hospital. Hector was born in Bengough, Saskatchewan on July 2, 1935. He attended high school there before joining the R.C.A.F. Loving husband of Dolores (nee Turgeon), father to Doug (Kate) of Ottawa and Lisa of North Bay. Predeceased by parents Angus & Emma (nee Odland) MacDonald, brothers Orval, Andy (Ruby), Donald (Irene), Kenneth and sister Janette (Harold). Survived by sister Gladys (Johnny) Owen. Will be sadly missed by grandchildren Connor & Kaitlyn as well as many nieces and nephews. Hector was a life member and past president of the 406 R.C.A.F. alliance and very proud of it. He also ran the I-Dent-A-Kid program for approx. 10 years. He enjoyed his part-time job delivering pizza for Dominos but best of all he thoroughly loved his bartending job at the 406 Wing. He spent 25 years in the R.C.A.F. and returned as a Warrant Officer before spending 14 years in the Federal Public Service. Hector enjoyed gardening, winemaking, camping, loved the outdoors and sports but especially loved meeting & socializing with people. His family meant a great deal to him and was always a great part of his life. They all had a special place in his heart. Family receiving friends for a memorial visitation at HILLSIDE FUNERAL SERVICES, 362 Airport Rd, on Thursday January 15th, 2009 from 1 until 2 pm. A celebration of Hector's life will follow at 2 pm. Spring interment to be held in Astorville at St Thomas Aquinas Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the House of Kin, the Daffodil Lodge in Sudbury or to the charity of choice and will be gratefully acknowledged by his family.
