Beloved wife of the late Harry Barclay who predeceased in 1991. Loving mother of two daughters Rae Barclay of Chatham and Samaya Ryane of Vancouver. Proud grandmother of Jesse Orion Smith and his wife Erin Smith (great-grandmother of their son Cieran Jack Smith ) and Celeste Ryane and partner Blaise Beckjord (and great- grandmother of their sons Harlow and Mateo). Daughter of the late Alexander Starck and the late Sonya (nee Ernston). An active member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, the Lutheran Ladies Guild and the Canadian Baltic Aid Society. Retired from CIBC. Survived by brother Robert Stark and wife Lolita of Germany, brother Horst Treulieb and wife Carol of Sarnia, two sisters Heidi and Don Woodbridge of Harrow and Barbara Harris of Ottawa. Three sisters-in-law, Karin Morrow and husband Vic of Mississauga, Hedy Sand and husband Tim of Hamilton, Mich., Ellen Venney of Windsor, Ont. and Laurie Seeseman and husband Helmut of Oakville, and several nieces and nephews. KILPPER, Hildegard - Passed away peacefully at her home in North Bay January 7, 2009 in her 86th year. Born in Stuttgart, Germany in 1922 and moved to Canada in 1953. Predeceased by her parents Pauline and Fredrich & sisters Lina and Emma. Beloved wife of Karl Paul Kilpper for over 56 years, mother of Karl Thomas (wife Karen). A resident of North Bay for 35 years Hildegard worked in the office of the family business, Northern Brick & Tile Ltd from 1974-1984. Adrien Coté was the beloved husband of Carolynne (née Walton) and the late Anita (née Ringuette). He was the loved father of Monique Coté, Lorraine Bennison (Allen), Marc (Carole) and Gerald (Liane) and dear step-father of Derek Detta (Lisa) and Michelle Detta. ARMSTRONG, Dr. James 'Kent' M.D. F.R.C.S. (C.) - Passed away on Wednesday, January 7, 2009 at the Great Northern Nursing Centre. Kent was born on December 6, 1926 in Port Credit, Ontario. Loving husband of Jean and his former wife the late Adele Armstrong. Dear father of Kim (Steven Cherry), Jeff (Alison), Megan (Chris Jacobs), Jamie (Chrissie), David (May) and predeceased by his daughter Leslie. Loving grandfather of Kyle (Jamie Pook), Luke, Clare, Sophie, Kaitlyn, Stephanie, Leslie, Lucy, Jake and Silas. Great grandfather to Finn. Step-father to Alison Travers. Son of the late Harold and Clare Armstrong. Dear brother of the late Jane McArthur (Joe) and Beth Fenton (Bruce). He will be fondly remembered by his many nieces and nephews. Kent grew up in Port Credit, Ontario and attended Toronto University. He received his Medical Degree in Toronto in 1949. Kent worked for a few years as a General Practitioner and went back to school to obtain his fellowship in General Surgery. During his first year as a general surgeon he worked at the Sick Children's Hospital in Toronto. He began practicing in Sault Ste. Marie in 1959. Kent lived a full life and up to the end enjoyed every minute of it. His greatest love was his children, grandchildren, fishing, hunting, skiing and he was an accomplished musician. MILLER, Bill McGill - (1921-2009) Passed away peacefully with his family at his side. He was the devoted husband of the late Edna (2003); loving father of Myrna Harley (Winston); proud grandfather of Stacie (Paul) and Derek (Jennifer) and precious great-grandson Trent. Dad was just too tired to wait for the arrival (any day now) of his great-granddaughter. He was a WWII veteran who left Nova Scotia 60 years ago to make a better life for his family. He worked at Eaton Yale & Town and retired from Frontier Equipment. His family and the family dogs were his passion. A longtime member of Lakeshore Baptist Church. Dad and Mom were always there for anyone who needed them. Many thanks to Dr. Sedra and her staff for not only being a great physician, but a good friend over the years; to St. Catharines Place where Dad lived for 2 years. And his final earthly home Linhaven where the staff of Dalhousie wing were so compassionate to him and us. We will never forget you! We will miss him so much, but he is with my mom where he has wanted to be for the last 5 years. Born in Two Rivers, NS, July 5th 1925, she was the daughter of the late Alexander and Viola (Melanson) Greer. Miriam is survived by her daughter Judith MacDonald of Moncton and two sons: Lloyd (Laura) of Surrey BC, Peter (Lily) of Coquitlam, BC. FAMINOW, Dr. William S. July 20, 1926 - January 6, 2009 It is with great sadness that the family of Dr. William (Bill) Faminow announce his passing on January 6, 2009 in Calgary. Bill was predeceased by his cherished wife, Madeline (Marg). In addition to proudly serving his many patients in Calgary, Bassano and Brooks, Bill was a devoted ranchman with a genuine love of the land, the horses and the cattle he raised. While growing up in the foothills town of Lundbreck, Alberta, Bill acquired his passion for the outdoors which included horseback riding, hunting and fishing. These passions are carried on today by his children and grandchildren. Bill is survived by his son Merle (Bia), daughters, Fern (Greg Schmidt) and Sandra (Eric Obreiter), sons, Cameron (Sheryl) and Calvert (Jackie); six grandchildren, Karja and Nathan Obreiter; Tyler, Madison, Shayla, and Hunter Faminow; brother Steve Faminow; sisters, Polly Howarth and Florence Wallace, as well as many nieces and nephews. GAMACHE, Jacques Joseph March 20, 1941 - January 2, 2009 Jacques Gamache, beloved husband of Marie-Line of Beiseker, AB, passed away on January 2, 2009 at the age of 67 years. Jacques was born March 20, 1941 in Quebec. Jacques worked for twenty years as a lineman for Enmax, retiring in 2002. He had a great passion for hunting and fishing, and loved to be in the outdoors. Most of all Jacques loved to be with his family. He was happiest at family get-togethers and was especially proud of his children. He will be dearly missed by all those whose lives he touched. Jacques is survived by his loving wife, Marie-Line; children, Amelie and Etienne; brothers and sisters, Rejean (Danielle), Rejeanne (Gilles), Micheline (Normand), Donald (Lucie), Lisette (Pierre), Pierre (Francoise), Suzanne (Jacques), Yolande, Collin and Sylvie. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and in-laws. Jacques was predeceased by his parents Joseph and Jeanette Gamache. A Private Family Prayer Service will be held. GILLIES, Audrey L. August 23, 1909 - January 2, 2009 Audrey L. Gillies of Calgary, passed away on Friday, January 2, 2009 at the age of 99 years. Mrs. Gillies, born Audrey Lucy Davey in Torquay, Devon, England on August 23, 1909. The family, her parents and sister Dorothy, immigrated to Canada. Her brother Frank was born in Montreal in 1922. Audrey attended business school in Montreal. In 1933, she met and married Stewart Gillies, an advertising executive from Ontario. They had one child, their son Robert. For many years, the family resided in various Canadian cities until Stewart's retirement and subsequent death. At that time, Audrey relocated from Victoria, BC to Calgary to be close to her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, sister and nieces. For the past five years, Audrey made Trinity Lodge her home, where she played an active role in lodge activities and community events. She was a popular figure at the retirement residence and with her winning smile was featured in the Trinity Lodge promotional brochure. Mrs. Gillies is survived by her son Robert Gillies of Atlanta, GA, nieces Pamela (Bill) Varga of Calgary, Gerri (Bob) Perry of Vernon, BC, daughter-in-law Beth Wolff of Calgary, grandsons Gordon (Kandi McElary) and Scott Gillies of Calgary, granddaughter Carol Trotter (Dan) of Summerland, BC, great-grandchildren Liam and Laura Gillies of Calgary, and Kelly and Beau Trotter of Summerland, BC. McCONVILLE, Joseph Raymond February 27, 1927 - January 7, 2009 Joseph McConville passed away at Glamorgan Care Centre on January 7, 2009 at the age of 81 years. He will be lovingly remembered by his children Joseph McConville, Marion Gardiner of Lethbridge, Linda Dansereau of Saskatoon, Kenneth (Beverley) McConville of Hamilton, Theresa (Henry) Davies of Hamilton and Lawrence (Kimberly) McConville of Calgary; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Joseph was born in Hamilton, Ontario but lived the last twenty-five plus years here in Calgary. He will be mostly remembered for the twinkle in his eye and his sense of humor. WAGNER, Noel Manford February 16, 1936 - January 6, 2009 I am deeply saddened to announce the death of my beloved husband, friend and mentor Noel Wagner. Noel died January 6, 2009 after surviving a debilitating stroke in 2006. I was honoured to care for Noel at home with the support of an exemplary team of women, "Noel's Team", led by our precious friend Marlene Weins and his personal caregiver and right arm, Ernani. The journey was difficult but Noel persevered to reach a maximum level of independence. His goal was to walk and I thank Jamie, his physiotherapist, for helping him to achieve this, albeit just once. There were so many people who "journeyed" with Noel and me, and we hold you in the highest regard. Noel pursued his interest in broadcasting by enrolling in the Radio and Television Arts program at Ryerson University in 1954. Upon graduation in 1957, he got his first job as a writer for CRFN TV. In 1960 he moved to CHCT (Global), starting out in news, then becoming Production Manager and Program Manager. In 1974 Noel was promoted to General Manager. He retired in 1991. He was on the Board of Directors of the Calgary Opera and the Esther Honens International Piano Festival. Noel loved and was deeply loved by his grandchildren, Luka, Stella, Meika, Jackson, Gabriella, Dylan and Ariel. He will be greatly missed by his children, Ryan, Kyle and Kris and his sisters, Lola, Addie, Shirley and Ruth. His faithful companion Rocco will miss the comfort, love and treats that Noel provided daily. Noel had numerous interests, hobbies and pastimes and I cherish the memories of our travels around the world together. I believe I am a stronger and wiser person for having shared thirty years with this man of determination, courage and integrity. At times like this, people often wonder what they can do. Here are some ideas that Noel would approve of: start your day with Mozart; plant a garden; feed the birds; read a good book; do a crossword puzzle or two; see the possibilities in everything out there; watch a good game of hockey and/or baseball; have a sip of scotch. Noel's life cannot be summed-up on a page or even a book. Those who knew him well will remember his great capacity for life and hard work. Continued peace, love and compassion., Much love, Rocco and Thelma.
