HARRIS, Lorne “Son” - age 78 of R. R. # 2 Dresden passed away Tuesday January 6, 2009 at University Hospital London. Born in Sombra Township son of Edgar and Maisie (Law) Harris. Lorne was a member of Southwestern Ontario Steam Threshers Association and a member of Dawn Township Historical Book Society. Surviving are his wife Beatrice (Hawgood) Harris, one daughter Cindy Doornekamp (Marten) of R. R. # 2 Lucan, three sons James Harris of Dresden, John Harris (Janice) of Florence and Scott Harris (Nicole) of Ingleside, six grandchildren Tyler and partner Jemina, Testzalane, William, Johnny, Ande, and Matthew, one great grandchild Dante, his mother Maisie Harris of Wallaceburg, one sister Norma Fitzgerald (Gord) of Port Lambton, several nieces and nephews also survive. Lorne is predeceased by his father Edgar Harris. Visitors will be received at the THOMAS L. JACKSON, Garfield Clayton - Of Deseronto, Ontario passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, December 14, 2008 at the Lennox & Addington Hospital in Napanee in his 78th year. Garfield was born on May 21, 1931 in Coe Hill, Ontario to the late Tom and Justine Jackson. On August 15th, 1950 Garfield was enrolled with the Canadian Armed Forces and served in Canada, United States of America and the Far East. He was discharged on February 20th, 1952. Garfield received the Korea Medal (British Commonwealth Forces) and the United Nations Service Medal. On September 24th, 1955, Garfield married Jean (nee Lloyd). Garfield and Jean had 4 children, Tom (Wanda) of Deseronto, Dan (Lillian) of Kingston, Kellie (Mark) Bardy of Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory and Christine (Rick) Clark of Deseronto. Garfield had 10 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren on the way. He was the brother of Carson of Deseronto and Noel of Edmonton. He was predeceased by his brothers Elvin and Don. Garfield was a Transport Driver and the Teamster President. He enjoyed driving truck and learned something new on each of his travels. He was not a religious man, but a spiritual man. Garfield was a member of the Deseronto Legion #280, Teamster Local #91 and the Korean Veterans. Family and friends gathered to celebrate Garfield's life on Thursday, December 18, 2008 at the McGLADE FUNERAL HOME in Deseronto, between the hours of 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. In keeping with his wishes cremation took place at the Cataraqui Crematorium in Kingston. Mr. Shane Mitchell Wallace July 13, 1956 - December 30, 2008 Shane Mitchell Wallace 1956-2008 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our son and brother, Shane Mitchell Wallace at Toronto East General Hospital on Tuesday, December 30, 2008. Shane is survived by his mother, Joyce Wallace, his sister Kerry Wallace (husband Myron, son Stefan), his brother Hugh, maternal uncle Jack Mitchell, Aunt Shirley and cousins Peter and Andrew Mitchell. He was predeceased by his father, the late Brian James Wallace and his cousin Janet Mitchell. Shane will be missed by the residents of Hurndale group home, where he lived for the past 20 years. Shane was born with Down syndrome and Autism but despite these handicaps he played a profound role in our lives. His happy, affectionate and undemanding nature was a lesson to us all. The last third of Shane’s life was spent in the care of Surex Community Services in East Toronto. With Surex, Shane experienced a definite improvement in his quality of life and he spent happy years under their benevolent care. At age 52, Shane’s health gave out and his life ended with his family and friends at his side. We wish to thank the staff of Surex Community Services and particularly the staff of Hurndale group home for the devoted care they gave Shane. The good times will always be remembered and the beautiful child and happy young man will live in our hearts forever. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, January 6 at 2pm at McDougall & Brown, 2900 Kingston Road. Jo-Anne Mary Lorraine Petzel June 14, 1949 - December 30, 2008 JO-ANNE MARY LORRAINE PETZEL (B.Sc.Pharm.) June 14, 1949 – December 30, 2008 It is with profound sadness that the family of Jo-Anne announce her peaceful passing at St. Joseph’s Hospice on December 30, 2008 after a brief battle with cancer. Left to mourn are brothers William (Sandra), Thunder Bay and Allan (Melody), Vancouver; nieces Megan Jarvis (Jamie) and Lauren Petzel (Kevin) and her beloved grandnieces Emily, Grace and Olivia. Also surviving are her Uncle John Slomke and Aunt Marjorie Harris, both of Victoria. Jo-Anne was predeceased by her mother Maxine, father Lawrence and stepfather Allan. As per Jo-Anne’s request, cremation has taken place with interment to follow at a later date. Edna Gladys Mars September 11, 1918 - December 30, 2008 MARS – With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Edna Gladys Mars on Tuesday, December 30th, 2008 at the age of 90 years. Edna was born and raised in Fox Valley, Sk. Later she moved with her family to the Landis District. Edna owned and operated the General Store in Traynor, SK until 1960 at which time she moved to Saskatoon. While in Saskatoon she worked as a Cleaning Lady at the Patricia Hotel until her retirement in 1985. Edna very much enjoyed gardening, making jams, travelling and especially enjoyed visiting with family and friends. At Edna’s request there will be no Funeral Service. Mr. Roger Welder August 28, 1960 - December 31, 2008 WELDER, Roger Dean Joseph was born on August 28, 1960 at Elk Point, AB and passed away suddenly at home on Wednesday, December 31, 2008 in Regina, SK. He was predeceased by his mother Mary; brothers Wayne and Glen; mother-in-law Verna Ryan; and beloved dog and best companion Bear. Mr. Robert William Drake May 17, 1918 - December 31, 2008 Drake, Robert William Robert W. Drake, 1918-2008, passed away peacefully at the Toronto East General Hospital on Wednesday, December 31, 2008. Robert (Bob) lived a very fulfilling life and was very active in the community and church after his retirement. Bob actively volunteered at two major hospitals in Toronto and was a proud and proactive member of the Beaches Lions Club for 20 years. Even at the ripe old age of 86 Bob energetically participated in the Beaches Easter Day Parade and received numerous awards for his dedication, including the Melvin Jones Fellowship presented by the Lions Club International Foundation. This fellowship award is the foundations highest honour given for humanitarian service. Bob also received the International Volunteer of the year award, in 2001 by the United Nations General Assembly for outstanding service in the community. For those who knew Bob well, he was a kind, honest, caring and a dedicated husband, father and trusted friend to many. Robert beloved husband of the late Bertha for over 62 Years. Loving and devoted father of his two sons, Ralph (Ljiljana) and Don (Marie). Cherished grandfather of Chris (Linda), Nicholas (Naila), Nathalie-Anne, and Stéphanie. Dear great-grandfather of Cassandra, Jeremy, Nathan, and Neesha. Survived by his sister Gwen (Nelson). Robert has now joined his loving wife, dear family members and friends that have passed on before him. Mrs. Doris Muriel Best September 11, 1914 - December 31, 2008 Doris Best It is with great sadness the family announces the peaceful passing of Doris Best at Porteous Lodge on Wednesday, December 31, 2008 at the age of 94 years. Doris was predeceased by her husband Bill, sons Dennis and Stanley, brothers Frank and Bruce Harding, niece Marilyn Harding and brother-in-law Bob Hughes. She is survived by her sister Joyce Hughes and sister-in-law Ivy Harding both of Saskatoon, SK; nephew Don (Annette) Hughes of Edmonton, AB; nieces Linda (Orlando) Nickel of Sherwood Park, AB, Brenda (Brian) Dillon of Saskatoon, SK and Diane (Gene) Chovin of Christopher Lake, SK; as well as several great nephews and nieces. Doris was born to Alfred and Mabel (Carr) Harding north of Laura, SK where she grew up, attended school and helped on the family farm. She married neighbour Bill and they had two boys, Dennis and Stanley, who both tragically passed away. In 1965 they moved to Saskatoon and enjoyed gardening at their home on Whitney Avenue and then many happy years at the Milroy where they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. After Bill’s death, Doris lived in a private care home and then moved to Porteous Lodge. The family wishes to extend its thanks to the staff at Porteous Lodge for the care and compassion they provided over the years. BIRCH, Ken Peacefully in hospital on Monday, January 5, 2009 with his loving wife Liane (nee Smith) by his side. Survived by his daughter Diane, sister Doreen Thompson and nephew Chris all of B.C. Predeceased by his sister Margaret Burton. Also survived by his brother-in-law Dr. L. Paul Smith (Dr. Ginette Caron-Smith); nephew and godson Eric (Lisa) and their children Max and Mike; nephew Patrick (Liz) and their children Connor, Wade and Luc; and nephew Martin (Pine) and their children Amber and Corey. He will be deeply missed by his many friends and colleagues in the travel, tourism and hospitality community. Ken worked with Trans-Canada Airlines, Air Canada, Hertz, Oceanair Travel Ottawa (owner 16 years with Liane), Wardair and Bearskin Airlines during his career. Dedicated member of the Kiwanis Club of Ottawa, the Ottawa Tennis & Lawn Bowling Club, SKAL and an Ambassador of the Ottawa Chamber of Commerce. Ken was a proud Canadian and tireless volunteer. PARADIS, Madeleine (nee Cardinal) On Sunday, January 4th, 2009, at the Montfort Center for Long Term Care, Madeleine died peacefully in her 90th year, surrounded by four generations of her loving family. She was the wife and lifelong partner of the late Jean Charles Paradis, very dear mother of Lise (Jacques Dube), John (Marilou Knuckle), Claude (Ann Classens), and Michel (Julie Lewis), loving grand-maman of Joanne Dube (Roger Proulx), Marc Dube (Erin Jud), Bonnie, Robert (Camille Friesen), Chelsea, Sean, Francois (Kavitha Palanisamy), Nicolas, Marielle, Gregoire, and Antoine, and great grand-maman of six little sweethearts. Dear sister of Anne-Marie Cardinal and Francoise Rand, she was predeceased by three other sisters (Therese, Jeanne and Marguerite) and three brothers (Gerard, Jean-Charles and Francois). She showed great courage throughout her life, especially during the Second World War, giving birth to twins and raising them alone for two years while her husband was overseas with the Canadian army. In the last year of her life, she again demonstrated her courage, as well as her profound trust, patience and sense of humour. She will be greatly missed. A special thank you for the warmth and love shown to our Mother by Marie-Bonne and her alma mater angels. FULLERTON, Barbara. It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Barbara (Taylor) Fullerton on Wednesday, December 24, 2008 after a short illness while visiting her son Chris and his family in Fredericton, N.B. Barbara will be greatly missed by her family and is survived by her son Chris (Kim), her daughter Pam (Pierre Ferrari), and her son Jim (Elisabeth). Predeceased by her parents Stanley and Marguerite Taylor, husband Peter Fullerton and brother John Taylor. Barbara was a devoted grandmother to Alex, Samantha, Cameron, Jessica and Vanessa. She will also be sadly missed by her sisters Joan, Jackie, Kay and brother David. Barbara was a long time, well loved resident of Hudson. She was a very caring person who always put the needs of others in front of her own and was renowned for her generosity and unconditional love for family and friends. She will be fondly remembered for her love of nature and great sense-of-humor. A funeral service will be held January 10 at 2 p.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 413 Main Rd., Hudson. Doctor Halina Szarejko-Krepec was predeceased by her husband of forty-seven years, Dr. Tadeusz Henryk Krepec in 1999. She is leaving behind in Canada her children and grandchildren, Andre Krepec (France Gaudet) and their daughter Raphaelle, all in Montreal. Dorota Smith (Melvin), their daughter Yvonne, all in Calgary, A.B. and their son Xavier (fiancee Angeli Parrenno) in Victoria, B.C., Marek Krepec (Elizabeth Martin) in Montreal, Mathieu Krepec (Jeanie Hache ) and their son Darek in Montreal, Rafael Krepec and Jadwiga Ludwicka in Chersey, Q.C. TRAVERS, Elizabeth "Beth" (nee Thompson). 1915-2009. Peacefully in her sleep at Foyer Sutton in her ninety-fourth year. Beloved wife of the late Reginald and mother of Susan (Frank) and Nancy (late Paul). Loving "Nanny" to Christopher (Kendra) and Nancy-Louise (Chris) and very proud great grandmother of Ethan, Daniel, Oliver, Sophie, Anna and Evan. She was and will always be the sunshine in our lives. CAMPBELL, Thomas (Tom) September 27, 1926 - January 5, 2009 Tom Campbell, beloved husband of Joan Campbell of Calgary, passed away on January 5, 2009 at the age of 82 years. Tom served in the Royal Canadian Navy in WWII. After the war Tom started his career with AGT, retiring in 1981 after thirty-four years. VISSER, John John Visser was born in Ambacht, Holland on August 1, 1929. He passed away January 4, 2009 in Black Diamond, Alberta. He is survived by his wife, Esther Visser of High River, Alberta; his children, Leo and Sandy Visser, Joan and Dave Larsen and Veronica Visser all of Calgary and Teresa and Jim Deacon of Black Diamond, Alberta. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Shauna and Paul Phillips, Layne Visser, Tessa Larsen, Amber Dujay and Matthew Dujay; three nieces, Hennie and Wim, Corrie and Lou, Leni and Wil, and their families, all in Holland. John was married in Holland to his first wife, Antonia who was the mother of his four children. He is predeceased by his wife, Antonia in Calgary, his parents, Leendert and Hendrika Visser, a sister, Jennie Verwey and brother-in-law, Janus Verwey, all of Holland. In 1972 John married Esther Friesen in Duchess, Alberta. He became a member of the large extended Friesen family. He was very supportive of the family and became a good friend to many of them. A Memorial Service will be held at the Salvation Army Church, 117 - 2 Avenue S.E., High River, Alberta on Saturday, January 10, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. with the Inurnment at the Duchess Cemetery at a later date. STANFIELD, Kathleen Isabel (nee Latimer) - Passed peacefully, with her loving husband of 50 years at her side, at Hastings Manor in Belleville on January 6, 2009 in her 84th year. Beloved wife to Robert Eric Rae Stanfield. Forever remembered by son Peter, daughter-in-law Sherry and loving grandmother to Lauren, Elizabeth and Jordan.
