Dear father of Bernadet Racicot of Mississauga, Rachele Racicot of Gatineau P.Q., Lewis Racicot of Toronto, Constable Christine Racicot of Mississauga and step- father of Margaret Adam of Timmins, Elizabeth Charbonneau (Dale) of South Porcupine, Angella Dikmic (Davor) of Brampton and Marcel Bertrand of Timmins. He was pre-deceased by his son Paul Leo Racicot (1995) and step-son Andre Bertrand (2007). He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren as well as his brother Gilles Racicot (Germaine) of Timmins and sisters Pat (Dr. John Sullivan) of Timmins, Jeannine (Mark Rumball) of Scarborough and Claudette Fregonese (late Bruno) of Schumacher. Also surviving is his former wife Maureen Wiser (Andy) of Toronto. Gerry was born and raised in Connaught where he and his family developed a love of music. He began playing piano and singing and entertaining at an early age and was well known throughout the community for his talent. He will be fondly remembered for his entertaining at many local venues including The Pav and the Fountain Court at the Empire Hotel as well as at the family establishment, the Connaught Hotel. He and his sisters also performed regularly a radio show at C.F.C.L. for a number of years. Gerry was a 35+ year employee of Brewer's Retail and was also a member of the Knights of Columbus (council 12589 St. Anthony's Padua). STOVER, Ada 2008-12-29 Ada Isobel Stover, age 80 years, a resident of Thunder Bay, passed away in Pinewood Court on Friday, December 26, 2008. Ada was born in Fort William and was a lifelong resident of Thunder Bay. Ada‘s focus in life was raising her family, providing a stable home for her kids. She was extremely proud of her 19 year career with the City of Thunder Bay as a Communications Operator. With her family grown, Ada and Jean (Jarvis) started their travels throughout Europe and the Caribbean. Later upon retirement Ada spent 8 wonderful winters in Mesa, Arizona with her brother Ian, his wife Corene, sister-in-law Joan and her handyman husband Bob. Although Mom loved to travel, she was happiest living at the beach surrounded by her children and grandchildren and extended Green Bay family. All Mom needed was the lake, a bonfire, her Toronto Blue Jays and a good laugh. Mom, you will be sadly missed and forever in our thoughts. Ada is survived by her children Brian (Holly), Raymond (Bev), Glen (Janice) of Craig, Colorado, Janice (Kevin Chase), Lindsay (Karen), her grandchildren –Bailey and Ben Stover, Michael Stover, Rick and Wess Stover (Craig, Colorado) Chelsey, Reba and Chloe Chase, Gordon and Colin Stover, and great grandson David (Craig, Colorado). ZATYLNY, Joseph Edward - Peacefully in London, Ontario, on December 26, 2008, in the loving embrace of his son. Born on October 7, 1921, he was the son of Josephine and Michael Zatylny of Brandon, Manitoba. A resident of Sarnia, Ontario, Joe was the beloved husband of 55 years of Anne (2007). Cherished father and friend of Ted of Sarnia and Jane Nahirny and her husband, Mark, of Salt Spring Island, B.C. Much loved “Grandpa Joe“ to Victor Nahirny. Predeceased by his sisters Theresa and Bernadine, Joe will be deeply missed by his loving sister Lynn, aunts Sister Virgillia and Polly, sisters-in-law Frances and Denise, brothers-in-law Eric, Ed, and Carl. Joe will also be sadly mourned by numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews, as well as many friends and associates. Raised in Brandon, Joe worked at the Rivers Air Force Base as a surveyor. He moved to Sarnia, Ontario in the early 1940s, eventually joining Polymer Corporation (1943), where he worked until his retirement. A warm, socially gregarious individual, he established countless friendships through his work, social life, and volunteer activities. Joe was a Certified Human Resources Professional and enjoyed attending conferences and meetings with many organizations, even after his retirement. He served on a wide variety of boards and committees and was instrumental in establishing the Lambton County Branch of the Canadian Mental Health Association. Joe was a lifelong learner who also taught retirement planning for more than 20 years at Lambton College. He enjoyed genealogy, computers, fine dining, travel, theatre, music, and was an accomplished photographer. But as the thousands of photographs Joe captured over a lifetime attest, people were always the first consideration in his life. A positive influence on the lives of so many, Joe was a true friend and a loving father and brother. Blessed with the good health and mental acuity that allowed him to continue to enjoy his activities, friends, and family, Joe enjoyed working outdoors at his home and was active until the last day of his life. CREMA, Angelo - In loving memory of Angelo Crema, 89 years, who passed away Friday, December 26th, 2008 at the SRH- Laurentian Site. Beloved husband of Beatrice Farrow (predeceased). Angelo was the son of Alfonso and Dominica Crema, (both predeceased) and was the youngest of four brothers and one, sister, Primo (predeceased) wife Romilda Baggio (predeceased), Sisto (predeceased) wife Mary Digiamberardine, Mario (predeceased wife Dora Buttazoni (predeceased) and Louise, (predeceased) husband Louis Andreola (predeceased). He will be sadly missed by son Dennis, wife Brenda (Ylitalo), and two grandchildren Crystal, (friend Martin Champagne) and Shawn (friend Robin Wiseman). Angelo was born in Sault Ste. Marie, and spent most of his youth in the west end. He enlisted in the army and was preparing to board a troop ship to Halifax, when the war ended. After discharge from the army, Dad and his mother moved to Coniston and lived above the old pool hall. While in the army he had met his future wife Beatrice Farrow, they were married in 1945, and had son Dennis in 1946. Dad first worked in the Coniston smelter and later transferred to the Copper Cliff receiving bins. He finished his career with INCO at Clarabelle when he retired in 1975. He said them, “that he would like to be on pension at least as long as he had worked for INCO.“ He did that and then some. Angelo avidly enjoyed hunting and fishing in his younger years and I can remember many good times doing so with him and his friends. He was also active in bowling, darts and Lockerby Legion until his health would not allow him to do so. To the staff and caregivers at Extendicare York, I say thank you for caring for Dad the last five years, and to the nurses on 4 south at Laurentian, Thank you for your help and assistance in dad's last week. They met many new friends along the way and embraced all new experiences. In retirement, Tom built their dream home on Lake Nipissing. Too few years were spent sharing their beautiful home with their family and many friends. Tom was a talented man who could do, fix or build anything. He was an electrician by trade then worked in management at Neelon Casting until he retired in 1998. Tom was a proud member of the Freemasons for over 30 years. POWERS, Irene Lillian (nee Rustad) On December 12, 2008, Irene Lillian Powers - Lil - passed away peacefully at Kamloops Seniors' Village where she had resided since October of 2008. Lil is survived by her daughter, Heather Mewhort, sons, Garth, Malcolm, and John Powers, grandchildren, Matthew, Amy, Rebecca, Brad, Anna, Kent, Curtis, Megan, Nicole, and Steven, and great-grandsons, Kyle and Cameron, sister, Martha Groat of Toronto, sister-in-law, Barbara Newby of Prince George, and numerous nieces and nephews. Lil's family has a special appreciation for the spouses that adopted her as their own Bill, Marie, and Traci. Lil was pre-deceased by her husband, John, five brothers, and one sister. Born on March 30, 1922, in Rose Valley, Saskatchewan, to a Norwegian father, Martin, and a Swedish mother, Anna, Lil grew up on the family farm with seven siblings. As a young woman, she studied hairdressing, but she felt that she should serve her country during the Second World War. Lil enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force and trained to become a chef. While working on the base in Winnipeg, Manitoba, she met a young recruit, John, and they married on October 4th, 1945. A busy life followed for Lil, raising four children and supporting a very community-minded husband. John's employment took them to the large cities of Toronto and Ottawa, to small cities such as Prince George and Burns Lake, and to villages like Dunkley and Kitwanga. Lil was always by John's side as his helpmate. She was also a member of the United Church, the Eastern Star, the Sons of Norway, a Cub Leader, and a member of the Royal Canadian Legion for fifty-five years. Lil was proud of the fact that she worked as a commissionaire in Ottawa. A responsible daughter, a wonderful and faithful wife, a caring mother and grandmother, a loving sister and auntie, a gifted cook and baker, a talented Bridge and Crib player, a beautiful knitter and crocheter, and a skillful gardener, as well as a compassionate friend, Lil will not soon be forgotten by all those who were fortunate to know her. Lil's family would like to express their deep appreciation to her long-time physician, Dr. Boughton, to the Ponderosa staff for taking such good care of Lil for two years before her move, and to the KSV staff since. Lil requested a small memorial service with her immediate family. Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Schoening Funeral Service, Kamloops, BC. GUERRIERI, Julie 2008-12-29 Mrs. Julie Terttu Guerrieri, age 77 years, a resident of Thunder Bay, passed away at St. Joseph‘s Hospice on Tuesday, December 23, 2008, with her family by her side, following a courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Montreal, Quebec on February 3, 1931. As a young child she moved to Little Long Lac and then to Geraldton with her family, where she spent most of her childhood years. As a young adult she travelled to Toronto to further her education in business. She then worked in the office at Chapples and at McLeod Mines in Geraldton. Later her family moved to Port Arthur where they resided on Alberta Street. She worked at Can Car, for the US Air Force. In 1956 she met her husband Don Guerrieri and they married in 1958. They recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on May 24, 2008. She was a loving and caring wife, mother and nana, always putting everyone‘s needs before her own. She always had a smile for everyone she met, even as she struggled with her health. She always took time to see the good side of a person or any circumstance. Julie loved gardening and could make anything grow, especially her roses! Her beautiful gardens flourished with all types of vegetables and flowers. Through the years Julie and Don enjoyed travelling to many places. In recent years they enjoyed their many trips in their motor home. Julie loved many things including playing bingo, going to the casino, knitting and playing games with her family. She was a crossword puzzle solver extraordinaire. Everyone enjoyed her cooking and looked forward to all her baking. She was so proud of her grandchildren, and all their accomplishments in music, at school and all their activities. She is loved and missed by her husband Don Guerrieri, daughter Linda Smith (Leigh), son Bill (Pam), grandchildren Greg and Katelyn Smith, and their dog Daisy.
