SULLIVAN, Leo Philip The death occurred peacefully with family at his side of Leo Philip Sullivan at his home in Repentigny, Quebec, on Monday, December 22, 2008, age 85 years. Beloved husband of Aurora (nee Gionet). Survived by his children, David, Louise and Neil. Predeceased by his parents, Thomas and Catherine (Gillis) Sullivan, Roseneath, P.E.I. Remembered by sisters, Sister Mary Sullivan CSM, Eileen Scully, Beatrice Stewart, Zeta MacLeod and brother, Michael Sullivan. Remembered by nieces and nephews, especially Anne Fitzsimmons and Bill Sullivan, who were brought up with the family in Roseneath. Predeceased by sisters, Lauretta Lanteigne, Catherine Sharkey, Frances Keeler, Sister Ann Sullivan CSM, brothers, Percy, Joseph, John, James. Mr Ian Archibald McMurchy January 23, 1944 - December 19, 2008 It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved Ian Archibald McMurchy at the age of 64 years. Ian passed away on Friday, December 19, 2008 following a courageous battle with Vasculitis. Ian was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather. He was a great family man and he adored his wife, children and grandchildren. They were his pride and joy. His compassion, soft-spoken strength and generous spirit will be forever missed by his family, friends and all who knew him. Ian was born January 23, 1944 in the Town of Reston, Manitoba to Marjorie and Colin McMurchy. He attended the College of Agriculture at the University of Saskatchewan. In 1968 he completed a diploma in Renewable Resources Technology at the Saskatchewan Institute of Applied Arts and Sciences. On January 29, 1966, he was united in marriage to Darlene Carolyn Dancy in Saskatoon, SK and January 2009 would have been their 43rd wedding anniversary. Ian worked for Saskatchewan Fisheries in Saskatoon and in 1969 they moved to Prince Albert where he worked for the Saskatchewan Department of Forestry. In 1974 they moved to Regina where Ian worked for the Department of Wildlife. Upon retirement in 1996, Ian started his own business and was able to pursue his true passion; outdoor photography and writing. His photographs were featured on over 100 magazine covers and he published countless hunting and outdoor sporting articles as well as two books. Ian was a member of the Outdoor Writers Association of America and held various editorial positions for numerous outdoor magazines throughout North America. He spent a great deal of time developing unique methods of testing the various equipment that he wrote about and was an authority on long range and precision shooting. He served as a moderator for www.longrangehunting.com where he touched many lives by sharing his vast knowledge and experience on his favorite subjects. Ian is survived by his loving wife Darlene; children Heather (Robert) Collins and their daughters Mary and Gianna, Regina, SK; Katherine (Leonard) Frass, Saskatoon, SK; Glen (Chantelle) and their daughter Trinity, Regina, SK; Joanna (Trent) Fleece, Houston, TX; brother Malcolm (Myrna) McMurchy, Saskatoon, SK; mother Marjorie Robinson, Saskatoon, SK; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. He was predeceased by his father Colin McMurchy. The family would like to thank all the local pharmacists, medical specialists and nursing staff of the Regina Qu'Appelle Health Region for their help and support. THOMAS, Edwin (Ted) September 2, 1920 - December 5, 2008 Ted Thomas of Calgary, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 5, 2008 at the age of 88 years. Ted was born in Calgary on September 2, 1920. He will be lovingly remembered by his four children, Donna (William) Morrow, Eve Thomas, and Gary (Carlann) Thomas, all of Calgary; Patricia (Adrian) Crane of Edmonton; his four grandchildren, Neil and Heather Thomas, and Stephanie (Stephen) London and Jonathan (Megan) Crane; his two great-grandchildren, Claire and Sarah London. Ted was predeceased by his wife of fifty-six years Violet (nee Engelhardt) in 2002, his parents Benjamin and Ellen (nee Grimshaw) and his brothers Arthur, Benjamin, William (Phyllis) and his sister Eva (Ernest) Bowler. Ted became a skilled metal worker when he served as an Air Frame Mechanic in the RCAF during WWII. Ted and Violet moved to Bowness in 1949 where they enjoyed the home they built surrounded by massive vegetable and flower gardens. Ted started T & C Sheet Metal Enterprises in the early 1960's. Ted operated the successful business until 1985. He and Violet retired to an active life pursuing their lifelong interest in the outdoors, including gardening, developing new varieties of African violets, bird watching, hiking and cross-country skiing. They made many special friends at the Second 60's Club, Calgary Garden Club, African Violet Society and Bowness Seniors Association. PARCEY, Adolph (Ed) February 9, 1933 - December 20, 2008 Adolph (Ed) Parcey, beloved husband of Nadia Parcey of Calgary, passed away on Saturday, December 20, 2008 at the age of 75 years. Adolph was born on February 9, 1933 and raised in Sclater, MB. He joined the military at the age of seventeen, and served for fourteen months overseas in Korea in 1950 and 1953. He came back to Canada, settling in Calgary in the Westgate community area and worked for Canada Post, retiring after twenty-nine years. Besides his loving wife Nadia, Adolph is survived by his children, Donna Allen, Douglas Parcey and his companion Jodi McKay, Delores and Rory Picone; and five grandchildren, Tabitha Vallierie, Sydney Parcey, Dustin and Sean McKay, and Adam Picone, all of Calgary. He is also survived by his siblings and spouses, Caroline Dyson of Saskatoon, SK, Jean Polesky and Olga Keizer, both of South Porcupine, ON, Steve (Adeline) Parcey of Pine River, MB, Anne (Nick) Trofimuk of Candle Lake, SK, Sylvia Kowal of Dauphin, MB, Irene Burke of Balmerton, ON, and sister-in-law Jean Parcey. Kathern Louise Strouts April 21, 1915 - December 19, 2008 Kay passed away at St. Paul’s Hospital in Saskatoon on Friday, December 19th after a courageous two year battle with cancer. Kathern was born to Lue and Hope Jones on the family farm near Dinsmore on April 21, 1915. She attended school in Dinsmore, at Nutana Collegiate and Normal school in Saskatoon where she received her teaching certificate. She taught for 2 years in a country school between Milden and Dinsmore, then attended Saskatoon Business College, and went on to work for Quaker Oats Company in Saskatoon until her marriage to Bob Lloyd in 1939. They continued to live in Saskatoon where their first son, Bob was born. When her mother and dad retired to Vancouver in 1946, Bob and Kay moved to Dinsmore to take over her dad’s business and farm and to raise their family. Here Judy and Jack were born. Kay resumed teaching in 1960 with the opening of the new school in Dinsmore. While holidaying in Hawaii during Christmas of 1972, Bob died suddenly of a heart attack. As her dad had also passed away recently, Kay retired from teaching and spent the winter with her mother in Vancouver. Here, she became re-acquainted with Wally Strouts, retired RCMP, and formerly of Bounty, Saskatchewan. They married in 1974 and retired to Victoria. They enjoyed lawn bowling and the social life of the Oak Bay Lawn Bowling Club. Kay travelled extensively during her retirement and visited many corners of the world with Wally and later with her good friend, Emily Cameron of Dinsmore. In 1998, Wally passed away and in 2000, Kay moved back to Saskatoon into the newly opened Riverside Terrace where she enjoyed an active life until her death. Kay was an accomplished pianist and, as a teenager in Dinsmore, often played the score for the silent movies at the local theatre. She played everything from dance band to organ in the church for many years. She enjoyed accompanying instrumentalists, vocalists and good old sing-alongs. She was a 60 year member of the Eastern Star, Past Matron, Past Grand Organist and Past Grand Representative. Kay was predeceased by husbands, Bob Lloyd and Wally Strouts, by her parents, Lue and Hope Jones, and by her three brothers, Dean, Dale and Harlo Jones. Kay is survived by her three children, son Bob (Joanne) Lloyd of Saskatoon, daughter Judy (Barry) Ellis of Dinsmore, and son Jack (Doreen) Lloyd of Saskatoon, as well as five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. There will be a private family interment at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens at a later date. In lieu of flowers, friends are encouraged to donate to a charity or cause of their choice in memory of Kathern. Joan will be remembered always by her daughters, Cheryl (Bill) Tomanik, Deanne Dietrich and Patti (Tom) Paige; and son Don (Jacqueline) Dietrich; her grandchildren, Ryan, Brad, Eric, Tim (Carolyn), Nicholas, Tiffany, Amber, Jennifer (Mike), Gage, Erik, and Christopher; and great-grandchildren, Matty and Jadyn; her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Harvey (Elsie), Doreen Rathgeber, Hal (Lorraine), Al (Morag), Walter (Maxine), Arnie (Marnie), Cathy, and Esther (Gary) Davis; her godson Shawn (Maiko) and over seventy other nieces and nephews. Joan was so proud to become a Registered Nurse and although she loved her profession, she chose to stay home with Cherie, Don and Deanne. As the children grew, she returned to work and enjoyed co-owning a flower shop and the creativity of decorating cakes, working at Trend Draperies and Shoppers Drug Mart. Then the "itch" set in and Joan and Kleon began their "Geritol gypsy days" and travelled through the US. She treasured this time with Kleon. All her life, she kept all her family and friends close to her heart. They meant the world to her. She was always there to lend a helping hand or be there if someone needed her. Joan was a loving, proud and determined woman who overcame much throughout her life until the end. Joan will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Ethel Huculak November 24, 1919 - December 18, 2008 Ethel Helen Huculak, nee Slater, was born on November 24, 1919 on the farm near Lorlie, Saskatchewan, the second child of Albert Henry Slater and Helen Morgan Slater nee Hannah. In April of 1928, the Slater family moved to a farm in the Lanigan district and in April of 1931, the family moved to a farm on Section 33, Township 33, Range 21, west of the 3rd. Meridian. It was here that Ethel was married to Louie Miller on November 24, 1943. Ethel and Louie farmed in the Tait district until Louie’s death in February of 1967. June 28, 1968, Ethel married Mathew Huculak at Viscount, Saskatchewan. Ethel and Matt lived first at Lanigan and then moved to Alsask, Saskatchewan until Matt’s retirement in 1984. Matt and Ethel spent their retirement years in Saskatoon, enjoying travelling, friends and family. After Matt’s death in January, 2006, Ethel was very lonely and in May, 2008, moved to the Care Home at Riverside Terrace in Saskatoon. On November 21, 2008, Ethel was hospitalized with a fractured hip and passed away peacefully in her sleep on December 18, 2008. Ethel was predeceased by her parents, Albert and Helen Slater; brothers, Edwin, Joseph and Kenneth; sister, Florence Hislop as well as husbands Louie Miller and Mathew Huculak. She is survived by her sister, Hilda Shields; brother, Clarence Slater; sisters-in-law, Sylvia Slater, Rosemary Slater, Violet Spencer, Julia Swartz and Natalie Brown; brothers-in-law, Jack Hislop and Arnold Swartz as well as ten nieces and four nephews. A public viewing will be held Monday, December 22, 2008 from 7:00 – 8:00 p.m. and a Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, December 23, 2008 at 2:30 p.m. officiated by Reverend Marjorie Keyserboth held from Hillcrest Funeral Home (east on 8th Street, turn right before railway crossing) Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Mr. Darren Carl Dutkiewicz April 27, 1974 - December 18, 2008 Darren Carl Dutkiewicz April 27, 1974 – December 18, 2008 It is with great sadness and sorrow that we announce the passing of Darren. He passed away Thursday, December 18, 2008 at Royal University Hospital, Saskatoon, from a massive heart attack. Darren was born April 27, 1974 in Burnaby, BC. As a young boy, he and his parents moved to Regina, SK. Darren went to school in Regina and Elbow. After graduation he worked primarily in the trucking industry as a driver and then as a dispatcher. He enjoyed golfing, watching sports on TV, and was a very avid reader. Darren’s greatest joys were his two boys. He coached their ball (little league) and soccer teams. He also enjoyed going with them on school field trips. Darren was predeceased by his father, Don in 1996; also his grandparents. He is survived by his sons, Curtis and Brayden of Saskatoon, SK; his mother, Virginia; stepfather, Stan Toth, both of Regina, SK; brother, Victor of Loreburn, SK; plus many aunts, uncles, and cousins; and Christina, the mother of his children. Viewing will be held on Monday, December 22, 2008 from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, December 23, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. Both will be held at Park Funeral Chapel, 311 Third Avenue North, Saskatoon, SK. Following the service the interment of Darren’s ashes will be held in Elbow Cemetery, Elbow, SK. Mr. John (Jack) Raymond Fitzgerald January 26, 1939 - December 19, 2008 The family is saddened to announce the passing of John (Jack) Raymond Fitzgerald of Tyndall Road, Amherst on Friday, December 19, 2008 at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre in Upper Nappan, with his loving family by his side, at the age of 69. Born in Sackville, NB, he was a son of the late Clarence and Muriel (Ward) Fitzgerald. Jack retired from CN after 30 years of service. He had a great passion in caring for animals small and large, especially dogs. In his younger years he was an avid hunter, and fisherman and always enjoyed playing crib with his family and friends. Jack will always be lovingly remembered by his children, Sherry (Glenn) Fagan of Bathurst, NB and son, Stephen (Shirley) of Amherst; as well as two brothers, David (Mary) of Moncton, NB and Bob (Dorothy) of Amherst; his sisters, Linda Gillis and Donna MacKennzie both of Amherst and Marlene Wheaton of Moncton, NB; two special granddaughters, Chelsea and Tasha; one great grandson, Brodie all of Bathurst, NB; many nieces and nephews. To honour Jack's wishes, cremation has taken place. A time of visitation will be held on Sunday, December 21, 2008 from 1 to 3 p.m. followed immediately by a funeral service with Rev. She enjoyed reading, knitting, crocheting, baking and puzzles. She loved "the cottage" on Mayo Lake, but most of all she loved her family. Jack leaves behind his companion of many years, Patsy Porter. He is suvived by his daughter, Norma (Blaine) Lacina; Patsy’s children, Jean (Lloyd Carswell) Lawton, Karen (Bernie) Morbeck and Debbie (Ivan) Towriss; grandchildren, Carla (Brad Hryniuk) Hedman, Leighann Hedman, Chad (Amy) Lacina, Candace Lacina, Tony Lawton, Erin Lawton, Janet Morbeck, Mandy (John) Sorenson and Sheldon (Brittany) Towriss; and numerous great grandchildren. Jack is also survived by sisters, Winnabel Craig and Irma (Ross) Row; brother, Earl (Jean) Tweddle; and numerous nieces and nephews. Jack is predeceased by his parents, George and Isabelle; daughter, Carolin; son, Robert; sister, Helen; and brothers-in-law, Lewis, Glen and Robert. Jack was born April 7, 1919 at Harris, SK. He joined the Air Force as a young man and later return to farm in the Feudal area. In later years Jack loved to travel, fly, fish, read and play cards with the neighbors at Lord Nelson. He moved to Porteous Lodge five years ago where he met many wonderful people (staff and residents). The family would like to thank the staff at Porteous Lodge for the care and compassion they showed Jack. KEDDY, Morton Edward “Ed” - 75. It is with sadness the family of Ed announces his passing in the Veterans' Unit of Soldiers' Memorial Hospital, Middleton, on Tuesday, December 23, 2008. Born October 2, 1933, in Halifax, he was a son of the late J. Abbie and Pearl (Simpson) Keddy. Ed grew up in Armdale. He was a proud member of the Royal Canadian Corp of Signals. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict (the forgotten War, where over 500 Canadians were killed and over 3000 Canadians were wounded). He also served in the Middle East, Europe, as well as various places in Canada. After 33 years in the military, Ed retired. He then owned and operated “The Powerhouse” in Wilmot for a number of years. Ed's passions were hunting, fishing and flying small aircraft. He also loved singing with the Annapolis Men's Group. Ed is survived by his wife, the former Shirley Baker; daughters, Donna, Halifax and Cynthia Anne (Joe Sloan), Aylesford Lake; grandchildren, Julie (Peter Marshall), Jenny (Simon Tsang), Joe Sloan Jr. and Joshua Hum; great-grandchildren, Bethany, Madison, Hanna and Summer; brother, Allan (Carol), Brechin, Ont.; sisters, Margaret, Dartmouth and Brenda, Orillia, Ont.; nephew, Paul; nieces, Lynda and Kathy; aunt, Margaret Gammon; god daughter, Cathy and many dear cousins in Nova Scotia and Ontario, as well as many dear friends who are also considered family.
