CARTER, Doris Violet WWII Veteran Born July 9, 1910 in Liverpool County (Everton), England. Died December 20, 2008 in Ottawa, Ontario. Graduate of the School of Nursing of The Royal Victoria Hospital Montreal, Public Health Nursing in Montreal and Nursing Administration at University of Toronto. From 1940-45 Doris served as a Royal Canadian Nursing Sister in England, Algeria, Sicily, Italy and Belgium. She was Supervisor of the Public Health Nurses of The Collegiate Board of Ottawa until 1974 and a long-time active member of The Laurentian Chapter of the IODE and Knox Presbyterian Church. In 1999 her book "Never Leave Your Head Uncovered" memories of a nursing sister in WWII, was published. She is survived by her brother Donald of Perth, Ontario, several cousins and many nieces and nephews across Canada and the United States. Predeceased by her parents Thomas W. and Eva I. Carter; brothers Philip (1936), Robert (1987), William (1995) and sisters Marjorie Crousse (1966) and Eva Kingsmill (2001). Friends are invited to visit at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 315 McLeod Street, Ottawa on Monday, December 29th 12 noon until Memorial Service in the Chapel at 1 p.m. Reception to follow in the McGarry Family Reception Centre. Interment of ashes will be in Woodstock, New Brunswick. Special thanks to the staff of Rideau 2 South, Perley Rideau Veterans Health Centre for their loving and respectful care. GRIFFIN, Judith Mary. (1943-2008). Peacefully in the palliative care unit at the Saint John Regional Hospital, on December 14, 2008, Judie passed away. Dear daughter of the late John Ronayne and the late Margaret (Kelly) Griffin, and predeceased by Brother J. Peter Griffin (Luanne). Judie is survived by brother, Robert Griffin (Rosalyn Edwards), sister-in-law Luanne, cousins Kay Wright and Margaret Gallagher (Patrick), and eight nieces and nephews and nine great-nieces and great-nephews. Judie graduated from Marymount High School in N.D.G. in 1961 and went to work at Bell Canada from where she retired after thirty years. A Mass of Catholic burial, served by Father Michael Leblanc, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, Rothsay, N.B., December 17, 2008. FROMAGER, Crystal Lee - August 20, 1961 - December 18, 2008 - The much loved daughter of Kathy and the late Neil Fromager passed away suddenly at her mother's home in Port Elgin on December 18, 2008. She will be dearly missed by her brother Gordon Fromager, his wife Dixie, their daughters Amelia and Roberta, and also by her sister Angie Fromager. Crystal was the loving niece of Merry and David Unan, and Bette Testani all of Toronto and Alfred and Gladys Fromager of Owen Sound. She will be remembered with love by all her cousins. MICHAUD, Clarence (Sam) (1918 - 2008) - Peacefully and suddenly, surrounded by family at the West Nipissing General Hospital, on Saturday, December 20th, 2008 in his 90th year. Clarence was the spouse of the late Emilia Michaud (née Brazeau). Father of four daughters, Joyce Courville (Rheal), Anna Leblanc (Roger) and JoAnn Lennon (Larry). Predeceased by his daughter Lily Lalonde (Gene). Grandfather to Daniel Courville (Janine), Robert Courville (Sonia), Michael Courville (Brenda), Dale Lalonde (Debbie), Shelley Ann Bushey (Allen), Sylvie Ducharme (Dan), Francine Gingras (Mario) and Kim Allaire (Gino Silvani). Very good friend to Fleurette Lepage. Clarence was born in New Brunswick, and at a young age moved to Val D'Or, Iroquois Falls, and the Timmins area, where he met his wife Emilia, and began his family. He worked in the mines. Then they moved to Sturgeon Falls where he worked at the Abitibi Mill and eventually opened his own electrical and plumbing business, Michaud Electrical & Plumbing. He retired at 50 and enjoyed his retirement with his wife. He was very well known to the community, and has left us many good memories. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and his buddy, his 12 year old cat Sammy which he adored and would say the only thing that cat can't do is talk. Sammy made his life a little easier after the passing away of his wife Emilia. At the request of Clarence, there will be no funeral service. Cremation will follow, and a graveside service of his ashes will be held at a later date. EDWARDS, Margaret (Peggy) Gwendolyn (nee Rees) June 10, 1927 - December 20, 2008 Peggy Edwards of Calgary passed away peacefully on December 20, 2008, after a brief battle with cancer. She approached death with the same strength and courage that she approached life. Peggy was born in Craigmyle, Alberta and was the only daughter of Sydney and Verna Rees. She and her two brothers grew up on a farm and she completed all of her formal schooling in Craigmyle. During her school years, Peggy completed her Toronto Conservatory of Music certificates in both voice and piano. She briefly left Craigmyle to work at the Courthouse in Vernon, B.C. On her return, she met and fell in love with Maurice (Moe) Stephen Edwards. They were married in 1949 and started their family with the arrival of Sydney Kempton in 1950, and William Mark in 1951. Various moves throughout Saskatchewan and Alberta would bring them to Olds, Alberta where Peggy gave birth to her first daughter, Lori Gail in 1957. The growing family then moved into a new house in S.W. Calgary in 1958. Peggy had her last two children in Calgary, a second daughter Julia Ann, in 1961 and a third son Maurice David in 1968. Besides her focus on raising children, Peggy pursued her music career and established a successful music business in the late 1970's - Edwards Music Academy. Peggy taught piano, voice, guitar, banjo, organ, and accordion both in the music students' homes and in her own home. When she was fifty, she began taking art classes. Her talents were expressed with her precise, fine detail of created oil, water color, pen and ink, and pastel paintings. She painted mountains, animals, flowers, still life and portraits. The works were so professional, and her family and friends admired her wonderful artistic talent. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church and sang in the choir for many years. One of her favorite events was the Christmas concert. Peggy loved the opera and theatre, and belonged to many groups, including the camera club, "Open Door" and "Malcolm" groups. Peggy was a kind, caring and sensitive person and stressed that you should "never give up" in this world of continuous struggles. Peggy is remembered with unending and undying love by her surviving family: Sydney (Kim) Edwards (Janet), Lori Wakelam (Cal), Julie McDougall (Scott), and Maurice (Maury) Edwards (Karine Huet). She is also lovingly remembered by her grandchildren Christopher, Tamara, and Lindsay Edwards, Tara, Julie, and Ryan Wakelam, Brooklyn and Connor McDougall, Jessica Blitt, and Jaclyn, Kimberly, and Jamey Edwards. She is also survived by her two great-grandchildren Storm and Isaac Edwards. Peggy is predeceased by her two brothers Maurice and Dave Rees, and her son William Mark (Bill) Edwards. A Celebration of her Life will be held at the First Baptist Church (1311 - 4 Street S.W.), on Sunday, December 28, 2008 at 3:00 p.m. In the Spring of 2009, Peggy's ashes will be placed on a site near to her deceased son at Eden Brook Memorial Gardens. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Maureen (Curtis), his sons Chris (Shirley), Jeff (Lynn), and Kerry (Laurie) all of Port Colborne, his daughters Dana (Rick) of Yellowknife, North West Territories and Kiley (Shane) of St. Catharines. He was a special Grandad to Danny (Lise), Lisa (Gary), Allison, Michael, Curtis (Marisa), Jake (Melisa), Rory, Casey, Jesse, Joe (Stephanie), Rhonda and his 7 great grandchildren. His is also survived by his sister Alice Paul of Saskatchewan, his brother Bill (Marie) and his sister-in-law Pat Beauchamp. He was predeceased by his parents Fred and Mary Benson and his 3 sister and 2 brothers. At Mr. Benson's request there will be no viewing or visitation. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of his life will be held at the Canadian Legion, Branch 56, Clarence St. on Sunday December 28, 2008 from 12:30 – 3:00p.m. Memorial remembrances to Hospice Niagara would be appreciated by the family. Doris Goguen - À sa résidence, le lundi 22 décembre 2008, à l’âge de 75 ans, est décédée soudainement Doris Goguen, domiciliée à Cap-Pelé. Née le 7 septembre 1933 à Saint-André, elle était fille de feu Théophile et Ida (Gallant) LeBlanc. Elle laisse dans le deuil un ami spécial, Mathias Vautour de Cap-Pelé; une fille, Norma Brine (Joe) de Saint-André; trois fils: Donald (Bernice) et Douglas (Jennifer) de Saint-André et Danny (Jocelyne) de Cap-Pelé; quatre soeurs: Eva LeBlanc (Pat) de Cap-Pelé, Léona Goguen (Alphonse) et Bernice Duguay (Henri-Eugène) de Saint-André et Marie-Mai LeBlanc de la Loui-siane; un frère, Ola LeBlanc (Freda) de Moncton; quatre petits-enfants: Jason, Nadine, Joey et Cynthia; quatre arrière-petits-enfants: Monika, Michael, Abigail et Véronique, ainsi que plusieurs nièces, neveux et amis. Son époux, Arthur Goguen, ainsi que trois frères: Yvon, André et Ovila LeBlanc, l’ont précédée dans la tombe. Avant sa retraite, Doris a travaillé au restaurant Four Seasons à Shédiac et au district scolaire 11. La famille recevra parents et amis à compter de 19h, le mardi 23 décembre, au Funérarium Frenette, 2642, chemin Acadie, à Cap-Pelé (577-3297, www.salonfrenette. com).
