PATTERSON, Rita Elizabeth (nee Kellough) Peacefully on Thursday, December 18, 2008 at Prince of Wales Manor. Loving mother of Garry (Anne), Wayne (Janie) and Heather (Ray MacLean). Devoted and cherished Nan of Gregg, Geoff and the late Glenn. Great-Nan of Mikael and Samuel. Sister of the late Willard Kellough. Special thanks to the staff on the second floor of the Prince of Wales Manor for their exceptional care. In keeping with Rita's wishes a private family service will be held at a later date. We were fortunate to have had her for the time that we did and she will live in our hearts forever. PENDERGAST, Ron We are sad to announce the passing of Ron Pendergast on Sunday December 14, 2008 after a battle with cancer. He died peacefully at home with his loved ones around him. He will be greatly missed by his wife Mireille, daughter Melissa, brother Rick (Emilie), his sisters: Elaine (Norm), Bonita (Bill), Geraldine (Doug) and Dolly (David), his 6 nephews: Brandon, Simon, Seth, Eric, Felix, Xavier, his 7 nieces: Tina, Joanne, Jessica, Jennifer, Amanda, Monica, Leah and his 5 great-grand nieces and nephews. TROWER, Norman George (Major General Retired) Suddenly and peacefully at home on Monday, December 15, 2008 at the age of 84. Beloved husband of Marion (nee Reesor). Loving father of Bonnie Call and Ian Trower. Very proud grandfather of Martin, Andrew, Christopher and great-grandfather of Evan and Lauren. Norman had a very long and successful military career having served in Korea, Gaza, Cyprus, and in Pakistan as Military attache to the High Commission. The final years of his military career were spent as Associate Assistant Deputy Minister (Policy). After the military he started his own management business. He contributed greatly to the Order of St. Lazarus with a final rank of Grand Officer of Merit. A private Funeral Service was held at the West Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry. FANCIE, Barbara (nee Aldous). 1924-2008. Barbara passed away peacefully at Charles Lemoyne Hospital on December 17, 2008, leaving us to join her beloved Jack who passed away on November 30, 2006. Barbara will be missed greatly and fondly remembered by her son Jay, daughter-in-law Chris, and grandsons Michael and David; as well as nieces and nephews and their families in Vancouver and South Africa and many friends from far and wide. OBITUARY STEVE (STEFAN) KOHUT Born in Nelson, Lancashire, United Kingdom on August 6, 1951, died suddenly on November 28, 2008 in Auckland, New Zealand. Grew up in Montreal, and worked in Montreal, Toronto, Kelowna, Abbotsford, and Victoria. He was retired from Scotiabank and worked as Branch Manager for DND SISIP Financial Services at the CFB Esquimalt Naval Base. Predeceased by brother Michael Kohut in 1998. Survived by loving wife of thirty-seven years, Marika, and two children Matthew and Melissa Coope (James), parents Olga and Kyryl Kohut, sister Lisa Maier and nieces Stacy, Kathleen and Bonnie Maier. Anyone who knew Steve was well acquainted with his kindness, generosity and altruistic spirit. Steve touched many people in his life through his work in financial services, his volunteering positions in service organizations and coaching sports. Steve had a wonderful sense of humor. His love of music and dance made him the life of every party. Steve's greatest passion was his family, and he was always there for us. Steve didn't quite make it to his daughter Melissa's wedding but left his words of blessing to share on the nuptial day, which was the day after his passing. Steve will always be remembered as having a smile on his face, and open arms for those who knew him. His family and friends will miss him greatly. There will be no service at Steve's request. Burial will be held at a later date in Montreal, where he will be laid to rest with his brother Mike. LANGFORD, Marian Thelma. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Thelma Langford on Wednesday, December 17, 2008 at her home in Burlington, after a courageous battle with cancer, in her eighty-sixth year. Wife of the late Jack Langford, she will be sadly missed by her son Phil and his wife Shelagh as well as her brother Bob Winterson and his wife Madge. Cherished Grandma to her grandchildren, Matt, Chris, Connor, Michelle, and Kristi, she is also affectionately regarded by her niece, Jill Winterson and daughter-in-law, Jane. Thelma was predeceased by her youngest son, Doug as well as her brother Allan, and his wife Marion. Thelma spent her life involved with her family and participated in a variety of community endeavours including several charities. In her early years, she was an active competitive curler. Thelma and Jack traveled extensively across Canada and lived in the Montreal area, Edmonton, and London, Ontario where some of her happiest moments were spent at "the farm". Thelma was a lady with strong views and a loyal friend who was willing to support anyone who needed her help. Her final years in Burlington were spent making new friends and enjoying her family. The care and compassion she received from the staff at Hearthstone by the Lake during her final days was exceptional. A memorial service will be held at the James A. Harris Funeral Home, 220 St. James Street at Richmond, London, on Saturday, December 27 at 1 p.m. Cremation has taken place with interment at Woodland Cemetery, London. In lieu of flowers, donations to Ronald McDonald House or the Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Foundation in Thelma's memory would be appreciated by the family. NICKERSON, Mabel (Mae) Letitia (nee Robertson) December 26, 1905 - December 16, 2008 Born the daughter of Cedric and Letitia Robertson (nee Banks), Mae passed away peacefully Tuesday, December 16, 2008 at the Southwood Care, just ten days shy of her 103rd birthday. She attended Nova Scotia Teachers' College, Truro, Nova Scotia and taught school on Cape Sable Island for two years. She then attended Maritime Business College in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Her next adventure took her to Montreal, Quebec to pursue a secretarial career. While in Montreal she met and married the love of her life, Ronald V. Nickerson. They enjoyed fifty-seven years of marriage. Another move brought them back to Barrington (Doctors Cove), Nova Scotia in 1955 where she taught school for sixteen years while attending summer school at Dalhousie University. Her teaching career continued when she taught the business course at the high school until her retirement at age sixty-six. After her husband's death she moved to Calgary in 1985. Mabel is survived by a son Ronald V. Nickerson and daughter-in-law Marjorie Nickerson; grandchildren, Stephen (Joanne), Calgary, AB; Douglas (Candy), Calgary, AB; John (Marie Claude), Montreal, Quebec; Jane, Key West, Florida; Michael, Montreal, Quebec; great-grandchildren, Angela (Jeff), Melissa, Christopher, Eric, Camille and Leighton; great-great-grandchildren, Tristan, Mocay and Shanasea. Mabel was predeceased by her husband Ronald, daughter Joyce, granddaughter Deborah Lynn and grandson David Richard. DWAN, David, M.D. February 22, 1922 - December 18, 2008 After declining health, David Dwan died in the Peter Lougheed Hospital December 18. David Dwan was educated at University College, Dublin, Ireland. David worked in Ireland and England before immigrating to Canada in 1952. Surviving David are his wife Sheila, son Peter (Yoko), daughter Allison, and grandsons Brendan, Thomas, Christopher, Benjamin, Sam and Lucas. David was predeceased by his parents John and Mary and siblings Edmund, Morris, Michael, Margaret and Mary. CHORLEY, Betty August 5, 1925 - December 11, 2008 Betty Chorley passed away on December 11, 2008 at the age of 83. She will be dearly missed by her husband of sixty-one years, Stanley Norman Chorley, daughter Penny Chorley (Shayne), son Peter Chorley (Jody) of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and daughter Pamela del Campo Hartman (Pete), seven grandchildren Wanda, Erica, Amanda, Vince, Nicholas, Adam and Alex and four great-grandchildren Jacob, Jaeden, Megan and Marissa. Born in Windsor, England, Betty learned at an early age how to knit and type, and used these skills when she left school at the age of fourteen to work to support her mother. On June 6, 1944 (D Day), she joined the Women's Auxiliary Air Force (W.A.A.F.) as a teletype operator and was posted to Yatesbury, England. In October 1945, she met Stan, a Royal Air Force (R.A.F.) Spitfire fitter at a dance and they married on April 19, 1947. After enduring postwar shortages, and in search of a new life, Stan and Betty immigrated to Canada in 1951 and started their family. While Stan worked, Betty devoted her energies to her husband and family, as a stay-at-home mum. In 1983 having earned their retirement, they enjoyed a wonderful "snowbird" life for fifteen years to Mesa, Arizona. Betty always enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, watching sports on TV, sewing and knitting. The family would like to thank Rockyview Hospital's Emergency and ICU staff, where she was treated with the best medical care, concern and compassion. A private family Funeral was held on Monday, December 15 at Eden Brook Memorial Gardens, where she will rest in peace with her favorite knitting needles and a view of the mountains. RUSCITTI, Olfidio “Alfie“ - The family announces with sorrow his death at the Timmins and District Hospital on Thursday, December 18, 2008 at age 84 years. Pre- deceased by his parents Eligio (1978) and Maria (1947) and his brother Corrie (2007). Dear brother of Larry (Mary) of Woodbridge and Noble (Yvette) of Timmins. Brother-in- law of Lisa Ruscitti (late Corrie) of Timmins and uncle of Craig Ruscitti (Chantalle) of Timmins, Sean Ruscitti (Tracy) of Kanata, Marilyn McCullough (Ted) of New Brunswick and Cathy Wildman (Dale) of South Porcupine. He is also survived by his step- brother Pat D'Alessandri (Gina) of Timmins and step-sister Anne Martin (late Peter) of Timmins. Alfie was born in Italy and came to Timmins as a teenager at age 14. He was a longtime employee of Doran's Brewery and was also an avid painter who was a former member of the Timmins Art Club as well as Sacred Heart Parish. At this time, the family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Julie Auger as well as the nurses and staff from the 3rd floor Chronic Care Wing of the Timmins and District Hospital for their excellent care and compassion. A private service was held Friday, December 19, 2008 in the funeral home chapel with interment following at the Timmins Memorial Cemetery. VINCENT, Robert Thomas - Passed away at his home in South Porcupine on Thursday December 11th, 2008 aged 60 years. Beloved brother of Peggy Killins (Terry) of Bracebridge. Sadly missed by nephew Tom Vincent, niece Kelly Vincent, great niece Mellissa, great nephews Ryan, Scott, Andrew. Great-great niece Riley and great-great nephew Ronin. Cherished friend of Marcel Burey and his many neighbours at 58 Lakeview. Robert was born in Bracebridge and had lived in South Porcupine for the last 30 years having been employed by Placer Dome. He enjoyed fishing and hunting, watching movies and playing cards. A celebration of life in the form of a luncheon and fellowship will be announced at a later date.
