Il était le gendre de Mme Alice Bizier Langlois, le frère de Pierre-Émile (Nicole), Florent (Pierrette), Jean-Paul (Huguette), Marc, Raymond (Camille) et de Serge (Blandine). Il laisse également ses beaux-frères et belles-soeurs de la famille Martin: Madeleine (Clément), Berchmans (Denise), Esther (Luc), Colombe (Roger), et de la famille Langlois: Gisèle (feu Jean-Marie), Gaetanne (feu Guy), Colette (Raymond), Lisette, Diane (Réjean), Mario conjoint de John, Maurice et de Doris conjointe de Marc. DREW, Howard 2008-12-18 Drew Mr. Howard Drew, age 64 years, passed away suddenly at his home on Monday, December 15, 2008. Howard worked at Lakehead Freightways/Manitoulin Transport for 39 years. He enjoyed watching junior hockey, cheering on the Toronto Maple Leafs, snowmobiling, going to the races in the States, camping at Cloud Lake and his daily coffee with the guys. Howard was a member of Moose Lodge #844. Howard is survived by his wife Janice, children Jennifer (Jarrett), Jeff (Edmonton), Rhonda and their mother Marie Drew Price (England), grandchildren Celine, Darian and Alicia, sister Vivian Autio and brother Dorsey Drew, mother-in-law Carol Perozak, sister-in-law Barb (Mike), brother-in-law Brian Perozak, sister-in-law Kelly Stevenson and many nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive. Mr. Sidney R. Crossley April 27, 1920 - December 12, 2008 88, New Ross, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 12, 2008, in South Shore Regional Hospital. Born in Edmonton, Alta., on April 16, 1920, he was the son of the late Frank and Minnie (Kennedy) Crossley. Sid retired from the RCN as a Chief Petty Officer 1st. Class after a career of over 25 years. During the second world war he served on many ships as he was one of the few fully qualified ASDIC operators. Sid also instructed in that field in Londonderry, Ireland and in Halifax, N.S. He served with distinction in Korea aboard HMCS Huron. His last commission was as the Coxswain of HMCS Terra Nova. Sid was an avid golfer. He was instrumental in the beginning of Hartlen Point Golf Club and was a long-standing member of the Avon Valley Golf Club. As a good golfer, he referred to his long, straight shots as "another mistake". Sid was the Founding Father of the Atlantic Chief and Petty Officers Association. His continued influence and input allowed the Association to become the viable organization that it is today. He was a member of the Admiral Desmond Piers Naval Association and the Centennial Legion. In his final year, Sid enjoyed living with his daughter, Shirley and her family. He loved spending time with family and in particular with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Sid with his wit and personality will be greatly missed by his many shipmates, friends and family. He is survived by his wife, Bonita (Stuckless); daughters, Alice Giddy (Kevin Wood), Kathleen (Harold) Boudreau, Shirley Crossley (David Temple); son, Frank (Marie) Crossley; sister, Edith Powell. He leaves behind 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and stepchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife, Viola Kathleen (Ewell); second wife, Marie Yolanda (Collier); daughter, Joan Edith O'Toole and brother in-law, Charles Powell. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Dr. G. Jollymore, South Shore Regional Hospital Emergency Department, paramedics and Dad's good friend, Gaylord Kingston, for their kindness and compassion. Beloved wife of the late Steve Melnyk. Cherished mother of Stephanie and her husband Bob. Loving sister of Jean Dunsby (Albert). A private cremation will take place in Markham. KIRWAN, John Laurence - MSc, PhD, MRGS, PEng - Died unexpectedly December 14th in his 72nd year. Dr. Kirwan is well known to many in the mining community. He was born in Ottawa, taking his BSc and MSc at Carleton University and PhD at King's College University of London. He came to the site of the mining action, Timmins and Porcupine in the middle 1960's, having written his thesis on the Porcupine Gold mineralization. He worked in this area for a number of years, and then took a position with Earth Satellite Corporation in the early days of satellite imaging. As a consultant in this capacity he traveled much of the world, linking geological findings with the new satellite imagery. He returned to the Timmins area as a mining consultant and expert on structural geology. He taught geology at Laurentian University, and later at the Zimbabwe School of Mines. There he learned the true value of clean water and this caused him to support charities in Africa to make available safe, pure water. He was a man of many interests and talents: a lover of operatic music and an historian of recorded sound from its earliest days. For several years John wrote a column in the Timmins Times on mining and its colourful local history. John leaves two children, Sarah Kirwan and John-Charles Kirwan both of Ottawa. He will be much missed by many friends, geologists and non-geologists. There will be no formal funeral service. QUESNEL, Emeril Joseph - In loving memory of Emeril Joseph Quesnel, 76 years, who passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, Sunday evening, December 14th, 2008 at his residence, Sudbury. Emeril was born and raised in Hanmer, Ontario. A longtime member of St- Jacques Church in Hanmer, Emeril worked as a smelterman, industrial maintenance mechanic and foreman at Falconbridge Ltd. for 38 years, retiring in 1985. He truly enjoyed his part-time work for the Lougheed and Jackson and Barnard Funeral Homes where he was very well liked and respected. He will be sadly missed. Beloved husband of Laurette (nee Beaulieu) Quesnel predeceased 1976 and faithful friend and partner Georgette (nee Labrosse) Lamarche of Sudbury. He was surrounded by his loving children and beloved wife and best friend Helena. Martin was predeceased by his first wife Rosa. He leaves behind his daughters Sally (Nestor Kruger), Linda (Kelli Payne), Elizabeth Skrobek (Mark Diotte), and his sons Mark and John Skrobek (Ala Glowka) as well as his grandchildren Eric and Aleksandra Diotte, Matthew, Serena and Isabella Skrobek whom he loved very deeply. Martin will be sadly missed by his family in Germany, his sisters Elisabeth, Lina, his brother Gustav, niece Ulrike and nephews Helmut and Jurgen; and many other family members too numerous to name. He was also predeceased by his brother Karl. LARSEN, Kety Sofie August 20, 1924 - December 14, 2008 Kety was born in Denmark and immigrated to Canada in 1951, homesteading near Watino, Alberta, at the mouth of the Little Smokey River. Predeceased by her first husband, Ove Klinke Hansen in 1959, she then moved to Calgary, where she eventually remarried. Predeceased by her second husband, Jens Jorgen Larsen, she continued to raise her children in Tuxedo Park in Calgary. Kety's eldest son, Bill Hansen passed away in 2004, and Kety is survived by her grandchildren Michael Hansen, Lindsay Hansen and Matthew Hansen; daughter Connie Rempfer (Hansen); son-in-law Gerry Rempfer; grandchild Mandy Scott (Rempfer) and her husband Charles Scott and great-granddaughter Isabelle Jane Scott; grandchildren Cara Rempfer and Dustin Rempfer; and son Keith Larsen. Kety is lovingly remembered as an independent person who loved cooking, baking, gardening, watching soap operas, playing cards with her friends, and socializing at the Danish Club. LUCAS, Iva Euretta December 14, 1920 - December 10, 2008 Iva E. Lucas passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 10, 2008. She was surrounded by her loving family - daughter Darlene, and sons Dwayne and Dwight. Iva was born on the family farm near Colonsay, SK, on December 14, 1920. She had a great passion for animals, and loved the prairies. She later attended business school in Saskatoon, and became a bank clerk. In 1943, she and Arthur Lucas were married in Mazenod, SK, and from there they lived in numerous places to the East and West, including Mazenod, Prince Albert, Waskesiu, and Regina, SK, to Simcoe, London, and Ottawa, ON, Saskatoon, and later to Calgary, AB. Always a "prairie girl" at heart, Iva cared for the welfare of others with compassion and good will. She was the "nicest lady" who never judged people and accepted them for who they were. Mom loved to travel, and visited numerous continents and countries, chasing her children around the world. She will be dearly missed and always loved by all who knew her. Iva was the last of Lonzo and Victoria McKay's children, being predeceased by her brothers William and George, and sisters Patricia, Elizabeth ("Libbie"), Alice Bodman, and Esther French. Iva also lost her husband Arthur in October 1971. WHEELER, Helen "Iris" Helen Iris Wheeler of Calgary, passed away at the Bow View Manor on December 10, 2008 at the age of 84 years. OXTOBY, Adelina Adelina "Mama Bear" Emilia Joanna Oxtoby (nee VanMeirhaeghe), a long-time resident of Innisfail and Olds, Alberta, passed away in Calgary on December 14, 2008 at the age of 82 years. Adelina was predeceased by her loving husband and best friend, Chester Mardsen Oxtoby and her grandson Sean Oxtoby. PLESKIE, Margaret Eugenia (nee Rumpf) March 6, 1936 - December 12, 2008 Margaret Eugenia Pleskie of Calgary passed away on Friday, December 12, 2008 at the age of 72 years. Margaret worked for the Bank of Montreal for thirty-one years and volunteered with the Calgary Catholic Immigration Society, as well as the Leighton Foundation. She lent a helping hand anywhere she could, and was happiest when busy helping people, or having her family and friends come to visit. She is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law, Peter and Laura Pleskie of Medicine Hat, AB, Edward Pleskie, and Allan Pleskie and Heather Pusch all of Calgary; as well as two grandchildren, Spencer Pleskie and Nicole Carlone. Margaret is also survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Ted and Marjorie Rumpf, a sister, Eveyln Balsdon, all of Edmonton, AB; and a sister-in-law, Hazel Rumpf of Bassano, AB. She was predeceased by her father Edward Rumpf, her mother Mildred Rumpf (nee Hunter) and brother Lyle Rumpf. PURDY, Dora Margaret November 12, 1913 - December 12, 2008 Dora Purdy passed away peacefully in her sleep Friday morning, December 12, 2008 at the age of 95 years. She was born in Summerside, PEI and raised her family in Trail, B.C., moving to the Calgary area in 1971. She is survived by her son, Brian (Alice) of Williams Lake, B.C. and daughters, Beverly (Bruce) Bladon of Calgary and Vivienne (Lothar) Schulz of Turner Valley. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Michelle, Steven, Nicole, Michael and Sandra as well as six great-grandchildren, Jackson, Lukas, Emma, Noah, Kayla and Julie, and a brother, Joe Wedge and sister, Louise Wedge, both of Summerside, PEI. She was predeceased by her husband, Harold in 1991 and by six sisters, Edna, Anna, Beatrice, Mary, Adeline and Nellie. Never one to complain, Dora retained a remarkable sense of humour to the end. She spent the last six weeks of her life at Foothills Country Hospice, and the family is grateful for the gentle and compassionate care she received there. RICHARDS, William Edmund On December 13, 2008, W.E. Richards of Calgary, 82, slipped away in the presence of his wife Iris after a lengthy illness. He is survived by sons Fred, Tim, and Bill junior. He was predeceased by his son Gary, and his sister, Mary. He was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and gained inspiration from his widowed mother Lillian who utilized her family's savings in the 1930's to purchase a dry goods store which supported family members and many others. William Edmund Richards ("WER") balanced a young family along with the demands of law school and the necessity to take on part-time jobs to support the family. After gaining entrance to law school as one of many war veterans, upon completion, he commenced his law career in a small southern Manitoba town. In 1956, he and his still growing family moved to Calgary where he began work as a lawyer at the recently formed oil and gas exploration company, Dome Petroleum Ltd. WER became President of Dome in 1974, and held this position until 1983. Dome was known during his tenure for the recruitment of the best in the industry, and an exciting place to work by virtue of its success. His legacy from this period of his life was the inspirational experience of working as a team with the people at Dome. WER then went on as a private businessman to put together deals such as an acquisition of a major Canadian petroleum company, as well as assisting as director in up and coming junior petroleum companies. He expanded his business horizon on an international scale with a special interest in Bangladesh, where he developed a petroleum venture by introducing a major U.S. company to the country. This company went on to inject a significant sum in Bangladesh's local economy. He was Honourary Consul for Bangladesh for over twelve years to assist in facilitating business relations with this struggling and misunderstood but dynamic country. At his request, a private family Service will be held in his honour. GRANT, Marjory nee Duff - 1921 - 2008 - loving wife of the late W. J. (Bill) Grant, died peacefully at the Ottawa Civic Hospital on Sunday, December 14, 2008 at the age of 87. Marjory is lovingly remembered and will be dearly missed by her two daughters, Cathy Millar and Barbara (Stacey) Townson, and by her four grandchildren whom she cherished and adored: Grant Millar, Kristi Millar, Christopher (Lyne) Townson, and Heather Townson (fiance Todd Sloan), and by her only great-grandson, Brayden Townson. Marjory was born in Renfrew, Ontario and grew up in Montreal West, Quebec. She was the only daughter of Lena McAdam and Charles Duff. Marjory was predeceased by three older brothers Alex, Cameron and Lewis, and is survived by a younger brother, Jim, of Toronto, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Marjory graduated with a B.A. from McGill and married Bill in 1945. She enjoyed a fulfilling life as a military wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and dear friend to many. Marjory, along with Bill, was a founding member of St. David and St. Martin Presbyterian Church in Ottawa and a longtime member of the Royal Ottawa Golf Club. 1990 - 2008 The passing of Jennifer "Jenn" Marie Johnson, of Fredericton NB, occurred on Friday, December 5, 2008 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Born on November 3, 1990, she was the daughter of Leanne (Mercure) Johnson and Andrew (Sandy Harding) Johnson. Jenn graduated from Leo Hayes High School in June of 2008 and was attending Community College taking the Early Childhood Education Program. Jenn worked at Zeller's and she greatly enjoyed spending time with her friends and family. In addition to her parents, Jenn is survived by her four brothers; Chris Johnson of Fredericton, NB, Matthew Johnson of Saint John, NB, Nick Michaud of Plaster Rock, NB, Larsen Harding of Plaster Rock, NB; three sisters, Ashley Meade of Fredericton, NB, Haley Johnson of Moncton, NB, Jillian Michaud of Plaster Rock, NB; grandparents, Bob and Jessie Johnson of Stanley, NB, Marjorie Mercure of Fredericton, NB, and several cousins. Jenn was predeceased by her grandfather, Leonard Mercure. Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home on Sunday, December 7, 2008 from 2-4 and 7-9pm.
