OBITUARY ROBERT ERNEST DAVIES At the age of eighty, passed away early Saturday morning, November 22, 2008 at the Lakeshore General Hospital. Bob was born in Sherbrooke, Quebec on July 29, 1928. As a young man he played and refereed hockey. After serving in the Korean War, Bob worked for BP Oil for twenty-five years. Having retired at age fifty-five, Bob had twenty-five years in which he enjoyed woodworking and traveling to England with his wife Frankie. Despite being predeceased by Frankie and being afflicted with essential tremors, Bob lived independently in a lovely apartment in Pointe-Claire with a beautiful view of the lake. He loved dogs, the Boston Bruins and spending time with his family and friends. Tuesdays were set aside for his special friend Jacques Giguere to shop, have lunch and reminisce. Bob will be greatly missed by daughter Lynne, son-in-law Christopher Green, daughter-in-law Wendy Davies, grandchildren Melissa Appleton (Davies), Mallory Davies and Kristin, Keely and Kady Bourne, Egidio Velenosi, Brian Cardin and Richard Moon, great-grandchildren Justin and Hayden Appleton and Cayin Davies. Bob will be remembered for his wonderful sense of humour, storytelling and kindness towards all. He was a true gentleman. Bob's favourite charities were the Donkey Sanctuary of Canada, The Vets Hospital in Ste Anne and The Old Brewery Mission. STONE, David 1958 - 2008 David Stone, beloved father of Alyssa (Matthew Brock), Lee and Christine, passed away at the Cross Cancer Institute in Edmonton on November 18, 2008 at the age of 50 years. David will be remembered by his mother, June Van Luven of Ajax, Ontario, father, Rae Stone of Courtice, Ontario, brother, Ken Stone (Sylvia Ott) of Calgary and special friend Bonnie Roth of Red Deer. David was predeceased by his infant sister, Sandra Lynn, in 1966, sister-in-law Janet in 1996 and stepfather, Don Van Luven in 2001. David was born in Listowel, Ontario and moved to Alberta in 1986. MCMANUS, Ann Lovingly surrounded by her family, at the Palliative Care Unit of the Prince Edward Home on Saturday, November 22, 2008, of Ann McManus of Duvar Court, Charlottetown, and formerly of Bonshaw, age 94 years. Precious mother of Sr. Carol McManus CND, of Stratford, P.E.I., Michael McManus of Hopewell Cape, N.S., Claire McGuirk of Toronto Ont., Joan (Vernon) Axworthy of York Point, P.E.I., and Dennis (Joanne) McManus of Churchill, P.E.I. Special grandmother of Jodi (Atsushi) Yasuda and Joshua McGuirk, Kara (Scott) MacLeod and Shaun (Crystal) Axworthy, Dr. Gregory and Steven McManus and Hayley and Liam McManus. Great-grandmother of Jack, Adam, and Kate Yasuda and Baylie Axworthy. She was predeceased by her husband John McManus and her parents Catherine and Ephe Costello. RANTA, Kauko 2008-11-24 Mr. Kauko Ranta, age 72 years, passed away in hospital with his family by his side on Saturday, November 22, 2008 Kauko was born in Port Arthur, and lived most of his life in Lappe. He loved bowling with his wife, and spending time with his pets and being outdoors. In his earlier years, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. Kauko worked as a Truck Driver his entire life. He worked for Abitibi, Buchanan and various other companies. He was of Lutheran faith and a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church. Kauko is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Doreen; sister Inkeri (Aulis) Liukkonen; nephew Kaarlo Liukkonene; niece Raija (Mike) McClelland; great nephew Eerik McClelland; step-children Gail Sitar and Grant (Taina) Sitar; grandchildren Pamela and Christine Dicks and David and Samantha Sitar; great grandchildren Olivia Dicks and Dylan Krahn. He is also survived by his Aunt Senja and numerous other relatives. Predeceased by his parents, Toivo and Ilmi Ranta and brother Albert. A private family interment will take place in Lappe Cemetery. He was born in Beaverton and married Raili (Kouki) in 1950 in Sudbury. Alex has worked at INCO for 35 years retiring in 1983. During his employment he had moved to Warren Township to practice his love for farming and bee keeping. He will be remembered as a master inventor and entrepreneur with an inspired work ethic. Rodney DeGrace Mise à jour le lundi 24 novembre 2008 Par: AP BATHURST - C’est avec tristesse que la famille de Rodney Gregory DeGrace, annonce son décès, le vendredi 21 novembre 2008, à l’Hôpital régional Chaleur de Bathurst. Né le 25 mai 1933, il était fils de Daniel et Adeline DeGrace (née Melanson). Il laisse dans le deuil son épouse, Anatalie (née Tremblay); un fils, Michael (Pamela Kennedy) de Toronto, Ont.; une fille, Carolyn (Brian Fitzpatrick) de Bathurst; une petite-fille précieuse, Emma, ainsi que trois frères: Bernel, Robert (Cathy) et Keith (Lise Lanteigne), tous de Bathurst. Après avoir reçu son diplôme de l’école Sacré-Coeur de Bathurst, il a été bachelier de l’Université St. Thomas de Chatham et titulaire d’un baccalauréat en éducation de l’Université de Moncton. Pendant sa carrière en enseignement, il a occupé des postes d’enseignant, de vice-principal et de principal dans les régions de Bathurst ainsi que de Montréal. Il a participé à l’entreprise familiale et était un ancien directeur de The DeGrace Group. Il était membre des Chevaliers de Colomb, 4e degré, assemblée Mgr Wheton et de la Société des enseignantes et des enseignants retraités du N.-B., section de Bathurst. Il était membre du chapitre local de la Société culturelle irlandaise. Son amour pour la musique et sa grande affection pour ses ancêtres paternels irlandais faisaient de lui un participant actif dans le groupe musical North Shore Fiddlers (Les Violons de la Côte Nord). Parmi ses nombreux amis se trouvaient des coparticipants d’excursions de motoneige et de camping. Les visites auront lieu à la Maison funéraire Elhatton (www.elhatton.com), le lundi 24 novembre, de midi jusqu’au départ pour le service funéraire qui aura lieu en l’église Sainte-Famille, à 14h. WOODBRIDGE, Robert George "Woody" 2008-11-24 Mr. Robert George “Woody” Woodbridge, age 65 years, of Thunder Bay, passed away peacefully in St. Joseph‘s Hospital, Hospice Unit following a long battle with terminal colon cancer, on Friday morning, November 21, 2008. Robert was born in McKellar Hospital on September 7, 1943, and lived in Ignace for many years where he worked with the ambulance crew when he could, as it was difficult for Robert at times. He later worked at Great Lakes Paper for nine years as a Driver Trainer and Supervisor, and enjoyed working with everyone. Robert loved to watch the wild life in the bush, and to see a moose made Robert‘s day. His last job with Forest Transport, he was a Driver Trainer for eight years and taught many a young man to drive a big rig, and took pride in his work. Robert worked for various trucking companies and truck training schools throughout Ontario over the past 40 years, training and supervising many drivers. He was Past President of the Ignace Kinsmen Club, Past President of the Ignace Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 168, and Past President of the Thunder Bay Trucker‘s Association. Robert enjoyed playing Fast Ball, and was given the nickname (Shooter Woody), hitting many home runs. An avid curler, he played hockey with the Old Timers #18, coached minor hockey, and loving children, he played Santa Claus to many children in Ignace. He enjoyed camping, fishing and swimming. Robert enjoyed having the grandchildren from Ignace at camp, sitting by a camp fire with friends and family he so loved, and did this for ten years at Mackie Bay Landing. He loved the fall colours, moose and partridge hunting, and fishing for trout at Gummesons Lodge. Robert and Linda shared 28 great years but it was not long enough. We needed more time but the time we did have was used to the fullest. We were the very best of friends, not just husband and wife. This my friends, is a great thing. Robert is survived by wife Linda Anne; sons: Robert Kevin (Nicole) Woodbridge (Ignace); Ronald George (Sandra) Woodbridge (Sicamous, BC); stepson Lance Matthew (Debra) Hitz Sr. of Thunder Bay; Woodbridge grandchildren: Felicia, Ashley, Nicholas, Tiffany from Sicamous, BC; Courtney Woodbridge (Ignace), Lance Hitz Jr. and Donovan (Thunder Bay). Grandpa loved all his grandchildren and they, him. Robert was also loved by Linda‘s my family: Marilyn, Ramon, Michelle, Shane, Lylia Austin, Leslie, Derrick, Jason Menard and Reneé. He was predeceased by his father, George Henry Woodbridge 1901 - 1968; mother, Lillian Mildred Woodbridge 1910 – 1985. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 26th in the Chapel of Harbourview Funeral Centre, officiated by Pastor Gary Wilson of Evangel Church. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Tuesday evening from 6:00 p.m to 8:00 p.m. at the Harbourview Funeral Centre, 499 North Cumberland Street. Il m'est très difficile de partir et de laisser dans le deuil mon épouse que j'aime tant (c'est normal) Julie Richer, nos trois enfants dont je suis si fier et que j'aime plus que tout au monde Marie-Pier, Sabrina et mon petit bonhomme Marc. He was the beloved husband of the late Marie deBruin. RABY, Napolidor 2008-11-24 After a courageous battle with cancer, Mr. Napolidor Raby, age 88 years, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 22, 2008 at St. Joseph Hospice, with his family by his side. Napolidor was born and raised in Lyster, Quebec and was one of 16 children. In 1959 he moved to Geraldton with his family and worked with Kimberly Clark until his retirement in 1985. In 1986 they moved to Thunder Bay. Napolidor was a long-standing active member of the Knights of Columbus. He and his wife Rita enjoyed travelling extensively and had many lasting friendships. Napolidor loved the outdoors, gardening, and family times. Napolidor is survived by his children Rose-Hélène (Len) Tremblay, Pierre (Lata), Michel (Cyndy), Ghislain (Theresa) and Sylvie (Carl) Muller; grand children Lee-Anne (Randy) Camlin, Tina (Alain) Lefebvre, Jessica Raby, Shauna and Travis Muller and Katie Raby; great grand children Phillip, Courtney, Rachel Camlin, and Julianna and Sofia Lefebvre. BROWN, Robert Steven - It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear husband, father and grandfather, on November 21, after a valiant battle with cancer. Bob will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 45 years, Therese (Caron) and his children Robert Jr., Deborah, and Allan (Claudia). Bob will also be fondly remembered by his six grandchildren, Ryley, Alyssa, Mathew, Rachel, Jonathan and Michael, and by his brother Edward Brown (Erica), and sisters Marilyn Buchanan (David), Carrie Birtch and Margaret McChesney. Bob was predeceased by four brothers and one sister. Born on March 8th, 1942 in North Cobalt, Ontario, Bob graduated from the Haileybury School of Mines in 1963 with a Mining Technician Diploma. He then attended Michigan Technological University where, in 1967, he earned his B. Sc. in Mining Engineering. Bob had and illustrious mining career spanning more than 30 years and taking him all over the world. His career covered all aspects of mine development, shaft sinking, construction and engineering. A published author, Bob was known throughout the industry as one the most knowledgeable, innovative and dedicated industry professionals. Bob worked for the Redpath Group of Companies since 1975 and retired on December 31, 1999 as President of the company he helped grow into one of the world's preeminent mine contracting companies. While Bob loved his profession, his greatest passion was flying. As a child he would scribble pictures in his textbooks of aircraft he dreamed he would one day fly. He spent a lifetime achieving those dreams logging 3300 hours in the air flying everything from Beavers and Cessnas to his beloved Super Cubs. He became the quintessential ‘flying enthusiast' over the years with cross country excursions to Alaska and Newfoundland, building airplanes with his friends, and constantly acquiring and refurbishing aircraft. Bob generously mentored others who shared his joy of flying. He founded the Young Eagles flying program, which introduces kids to the joy of flying, and dedicated numerous hours to the organization. He also volunteered as Chairman of the Jack Garland Airport Corporation in 2004. Bob leaves behind a legacy of achievement in life and will be long remembered by his family and friends for his kindness and generosity. He will be missed tremendously but the memories and stories of his life will be cherished for many years to come.
