COOPER, Father Ian, Roman Catholic Priest of the Diocese of Nelson, BC. Peacefully at the Villa Marconi Residence on November 24, 2008 in his 76th year. Fr. Ian was born in Ireland and ordained a priest in 1958. He served many years, in several parishes, in the interior of British Columbia. After his retirement he came to Ottawa and lived with the Oblate Community where he assisted in the care of the elderly until he suffered a severe stroke. Besides his Oblate friends, Fr. Ian is survived by two sisters Sr. Penny, a Franciscan Missionary; Caroline (Andy) of England and their children Sarah, Kathleen, Caroline and Andrew; two brothers Greg (Jill) and Willy. Special thanks to the staff of Villa Marconi and to Cleo Harvey and Joseph Bones who were faithful companions to Fr. Ian during his lengthy illness. Visitation on Tuesday evening at Canadian Martyrs Church, 100 Main Street, from 7 until 9 pm, and on Wednesday, November 26, 2008 from 9 am until celebration of Eucharist at 11:30 am. Loving father of Freida (Frank) Cutler of R.R.# 2 Iroquois, Marion (Allan) Jackson of Almonte, Shirley (Rod) Goldsmith of Roebuck, George (Kathy) of R.R. # 2 Iroquois, Jack (Faye) of Hanesville, Barbara (Harry) Keays of Portland, David (Myra) of R.R.# 2 Brinston, Enid (Bill) Baker of Portland and Sheila (Garry) McCurdy of Richmond. Fred will be fondly remembered by 21 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren and great, great-grandchildren. LONG, Norman Thomas Peacefully Sunday, November 23, 2008, at the age of 84. A pilot for the Fleet Air Arm in World War II, Norman fell in love with Canada while training in Kingston. He and his wife Zoe raised a successful and loving family in Ottawa and fully enjoyed their cottage on Crosby Lake. Norman will be greatly missed by his adored wife, Zoe of 60 years, his children, Annette (Roy Hewitt), Mark (Carol Preston) and Lesley (Ted Scharf); his grandchildren Amanda (Rob), Belinda, Tom, Shannon (Rob), Jennifer (James), Jamie, Shauna and Gregory; his great-grandchildren Emma and Matthew and his brother-in-law Dr. Garry Cornel (Anna). We, along with his many dear friends and extended family, will raise a glass to this very gracious man. The family would like to thank Dr. Morrin, who works relentlessly to put the "care" back into healthcare by supporting both Norman and his family. Thanks to Christine (ambulatory care) and many of the kind staff at the Queensway Carleton Hospital that looked after Norman. Joanne will be remembered for her passion for travel, selfless years with Steinbergs and love of friends and family. THORNTON, Alan Dale. 1940-2008. Passed away peacefully on November 24, 2008, after a brave battle with cancer. CONTRADA, Giovanna (nee Iuffredo) May 5, 1953 - November 23, 2008 Giovanna Contrada, beloved wife of Frank Contrada of Calgary, passed away on Sunday, November 23, 2008, at the age of 55 years. Giovanna was born in Naples, Italy and immigrated to Canada in 1976. Besides her loving husband of thirty-two years, Giovanna is survived by her twin sons and a daughter, Francesco, Vincenzo and his wife Nancy and Angela and her husband Kevin Brennan and a grandson Sebastian Brennan. She is also survived by her mother Anna Foggiano; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Mina and Gennaro D'Amore, and Tina and Francesco Fruttaldo all of Italy. Giovanna is also survived by her in-laws here in Calgary, Michele and Antonietta Contrada, Filomena and Albino Velcic, Lucia and Orazio DiManno, Tony and Clorinda Contrada, Mario and Adalgisa Contrada, and Fiorentino and Luigina Contrada of Italy. Giovanna also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and close friends both here in Canada and in Italy. Giovanna was predeceased by her father Vincenzo. JOHNSON, Maureen Andrea October 23, 1951 - November 23, 2008 Maureen Johnson passed away peacefully in the presence of her four loving daughters after a courageous battle with breast cancer. Maureen was born in Flin Flon, Manitoba and lived in many places across Canada before moving to Calgary. As a mother, she worked hard to become a CMA and was a dedicated employee of CRA for many years. McADAM, Vivian June April 11, 1926 - November 24, 2008 Vivian June McAdam passed away grudgingly on Monday, November 24, 2008 in her 83rd year. Vivian had the strongest will to live and defied the odds for many a year so that she could sing another song, have another dance, try another pull-ticket, eat more chicken and generally embrace another day. Vivian and her close friend of twenty-seven years, Sandra Sebree ("Auntie Sam"), shared a lot of stories and a lot of laughs. Vivian has been surrounded by her "family at heart": Sam, Fuzz, Angy, Mocha (her "woof woof"), her friends Kay and Patty and the many "Mommas" (female and male) who cared for her at Bow Crest. Thank you so much to those "Mommas" and to Dr. Todd for adding a few more good years to Vivian's life. We will all enjoy one last song, dance and a bit of rye in Vivian's honour from 1:00 p.m. to whenever on Thursday, November 27, 2008 at the Bowness Legion where Vivian was always welcomed and treated like gold by the staff and patrons. MOONEY, John C. (Jack) November 20, 1924 - November 23, 2008 Jack Mooney of Calgary passed away on Sunday, November 23, 2008 at the age of 84 years. Jack was born in Calgary on November 20, 1924. He served overseas with the R.C.A.F. during the War. On returning to Canada he entered the Trucking Business where he spent his working years. After retirement Jack enjoyed golfing, wood-working and learning the computer. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 285 and the Kerby Centre. Besides his loving wife Geraldine (Jerry); Jack is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Rick and Carol of High River and Dave and Pam of Okotoks. Although Jack was not part of their lives he is also survived by two daughters, Cheryl (Gene) Porte and Debbie (Shayne) Clement all of Winnipeg. He will also be missed by his seven grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. In keeping with Jack's wishes there will be no Service. ROMBOUGH, Sydney Blair Sydney Blair Rombough died peacefully and with grace on Friday, November 21, 2008. Sydney was born January 9, 1948 in Medicine Hat, Alberta, and is survived by his sister Valerie Campbell of Calgary, an aunt and five cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, Jessie and Murray Rombough of Calgary. Sydney earned a degree in Microbiology at the University of Calgary, moved to Edmonton where he worked as a manager for Telus until his retirement in 2003, then attended the University of Alberta where he worked toward a degree in Religious Studies. Sydney had a good and productive life, and felt blessed to have such good friends, particularly those who were able to visit him and lend prayers and support during the last month. He asked that the staff of the Misericordia Hospital ICU be thanked for their outstanding care and service. His family entirely concurs. A Funeral Service will be held at Holy Trinity Anglican Church, 10037 - 84 Avenue in Edmonton at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 26, with Interment in Calgary at a later date. Rather than flowers, Sydney asked that those interested make a donation in his name to The Lung Association, PO Box 4500, Station South, Edmonton, Alberta T6E 6K2. 1948 - 2008 Gary M. Durling, of Riverview, passed away at his home on Tuesday, November 18, 2008 surrounded by his loving family. Born in Woodstock, NB on July 10, 1948, he was the son of Dorothy G. (Carter) Durling and the late Stewart E. Durling. Gary is survived by his wife Janet (nee: Strong); three daughters Emily (Michael) Barrett of Ireland, Jessica (Marcus) and Martha (Greg) both of Riverview; one sister Janet (Laurie) Hood of Lower Sackville, NS; one brother Jim (Marge) of Windsor, On; as well as several nieces and nephews. Gary's primary education was at Canterbury and Woodstock, NB Schools. He obtained his Bachelor of Business Administration (1970) and Bachelor of Laws (1973) at the University of New Brunswick. He was a member of the NB Law Society and the Canadian Bar Association. Gary was a founding partner of the firm that is now known as Bingham Robinson MacLennan Ehrhardt Teed. He practiced law since 1973. Gary was a director of "Moncton 100" Committee; director of the former Better Business Bureau of NB; a former member of "Century Club" for the YMCA; served on the executive of the Moncton City Club; was a member and Past Exalted Ruler of the Moncton Elks Lodge #229 and also held position of Atlantic Regional Representative to the Elks Grand Lodge. He volunteered his time to several organizations for; Purple Cross Draw (Moncton Elks #229), Tim Horton's Camp Day, Christmas Food Boxes, political organizations and church committees. He was a member of Central United Church, Moncton and attended Riverview Baptist Church. Gary loved his family and was so proud of his girls - Emily, Jessica and Martha. His passions were the outdoors, camping, gardening, bird hunting, NASCAR and local racing. He had the most wonderful network of family and friends before and during his courageous fight with cancer and his family thanks each and everyone of you from the bottom of their hearts! BOZAK, Edward (Eddy) Harold May 11, 1937 - November 19, 2008 Eddy Bozak, beloved husband of Jan (Longphee) Bozak of Calgary, passed away on November 19, 2008 at the age of 71 years after a courageous eight year battle with Cancer. He was predeceased by his father, Dan Bozak in 1980. He is survived by his wife, Jan, his mother, Ann (Elchyson) Bozak of Estevan, SK, brother Donn Bozak of Toronto, (maternal) Aunt Jessie Lutes of Penticton, BC, cousins Jim (Vickie) Fowler of California, Barry (Diane) Elchyson of Neilburg, SK, Kay (Ron) Erdman of Regina, and their families. Stepchildren: Jayne (Lorne) Terrault of St. Albert, AB; Steve Morton and Rob Morton both of Ottawa; as well as five grandchildren; Kris, Jeff, Kathleen, Andrew, and Lia. Eddy was born in Bienfait, SK and after high school, attended the University of Saskatchewan where he received his Mechanical Engineering Degree in 1959. He then moved to Calgary, to pursue his career in Engineering, working for over thirty years with TransCanada Pipelines. He was a confirmed bachelor until he married Jan in 1993 at age fifty-six. Eddy told everyone, that he did, in thirty-five seconds, what most men take thirty-five years to do, in that he had acquired an instant large sized family including children, grandchildren and lots of in-laws, all of whom loved him dearly. His outlook on life was unique and he was never at a loss for words to share his witty outlook with his many friends and family. He loved his sports, especially golf, which was his passion. He spent many an afternoon on the course, as well as the "19th Hole", kibitzing with his buddies over a few beers. Jan and Eddy's families would like to extend a heartfelt THANK YOU to the Agape Hospice, the Home Care Nurses, and Dr. Dean Reuther and staff at the Tom Baker Cancer Clinic, for all their support. CHINNECK, Chester MacRae 1926-2008 Never was there a better husband and father than Mac Chinneck, a gentle man of wry wit who loved the rough and tumble of raising his three boys in the wilderness towns and big cities where his career as a mining engineer took the family. An international expert in iron processing and pelletizing plants, Mac's expertise took him across Canada and around the world, including major projects in India, Africa and Asia. It's the smaller private moments that give a life its singular character and so it is with Mac. He jumped off billboards for nickels as a kid growing up in the depression. He enlisted in the air force in WWII, leading to a lifelong interest in aviation. Mac was frequently sent in to end the boys' late night pillow fights, but would inevitably wind up an active participant. He barbequed in the garage because he didn't want an audience. He loved hockey, jazz and a good detective story. He took his boys to the library every Saturday without fail. He was once wrongly accused by a major newspaper in India of being an international uranium smuggler (much to his kids delight). He was an avid golfer and spent much of his retirement on the links with his brother, his sister and a close knit group of golfing buddies from Canmore. He could talk to anyone about anything and he treated everyone he met with kindness and respect. Most of all, he loved his wife, his sons and their families, and they loved him in return. Mac was never happier than when he was at home surrounded by family. Gracious to the end, he made us smile even as he lay dying. Even when he could no longer communicate with words, a gentle pat on Shirley's arm let her know that her tireless, gentle care meant everything to him. His life was an example that guides us still, and we miss him terribly. Born Edmonton 1926, he passed away at home in Canmore on November 24, 2008 from pancreatic cancer. He is survived by his wife Shirley, sons Jed (Cindy Hubert) of London ON, John (Linda Duxbury) of Ottawa, ON and Peter (Shelley Wilson) of Kanata, ON, five grandchildren (Mattison, Braedan, Annie, Griffin and Madeleine), sister Anne Watt of Edmonton, AB and brother Charlie (Doreen) of Calgary, AB and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Special thanks to Dr. Duggleby, Community Care Nurses and many friends and relatives who called and sent messages of love and encouragement. Née à Richibouctou, elle était fille de feu Daniel et Emilienne (Chavarie) Robichaud. Elle manquera beaucoup à ses deux soeurs: Bernadette Murphy de Miramichi et Délima Woodsworth d’Albert Bridge, N.-É.; à ses deux frères: Ernest Robichaud de Brid-water, N.-É. et Charlie Richard de Shédiac, ainsi que plusieurs nièces, neveux, petites-nièces et petits-neveux. Une soeur, Marie-Therese, l’a précédée dans la tombe. Mme Richard a travaillé comme infirmière pour la santé publi-que pendant 30 ans et pour V.O.N. pendant 10 ans. Elle était membre de la Ligue des femmes catholiques et en a été présidente pendant plusieurs années. Mme Richard était aussi membre du Club de l’âge d’or de Richibouctou. Elle a été bénévole pour l’église, pour la Société canadienne de la Croix-Rouge, pour le programme "Meals on Wheels" et aidait à la Légion pour les repas des anciens combattants. La dépouille mortelle sera exposée à la Maison funéraire Thompson de Richibouctou, le mardi 25 novembre, de 14h à 16h et de 19h à 21h et le mercredi 26 novembre, de midi jusqu’au départ pour les funérailles. Les funérailles auront lieu en l’église Saint-Louis-de-Gonzague de Richi-bouctou, le mercredi 26 novembre, à 14h. L’inhumation se fera au cimetière d’Al-douane.
